After deciding to relish in the series that entertained the author as a child, they then searched for fan-made work made un the image of the series. And along the way found two AU retellings of the series, and from there decided to create a retelling of their own. Speaking with the author as they crafted their tale, I listened to them express their desire to remake the series with two things in mind, making it [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DarkerAndEdgier darker]] and more mature. In the opening note for the story, the author expresses the changes that have been made to the story, citing artistic license as the reason for changing: the flow of plot, the villains, transformations, attacks, as well as the order in which the character we've come to know and love will be introduced.

Cosmic Warriors follows Usagi Tsukino, a clumsy, irresponsible, and ditzy 14 year old whose life changes when she receives a distressed phone call from her friend, Naru Osaka,, claiming a man has broken in her home. Usagi rushes to her aid and comes across a robbery in progress followed by the man Naru mentioned. While attempting to save her friend Usagi is visited by Luna, a black cat that had been previously following her, and is given a bracelet with a dangling charm on the end, in the shape of a crescent moon. With the aid Luna Usagi manages to transform into the Cosmic Warrior, Warrior Moon and with further help from a masked thief, manages to save her friend. She is then told about her past and her duty to save the planet before a darkness like the world has never known takes over, thus putting an end to life as they know it.

** The Protectors

Added DiffLines:

* MeaningfulName: The Protectors were guardians during the time of the Silver Millennium, who all lived on the Moon. It makes sense then that the author named each of the Protectors, excluding the twins and Kalla, directly after a Lunar deity.
** Although Kalla doesn't seem to be named directly after a Lunar deity his name is similar to Kalfu, a Lunar deity of Vodun mythology.
** Dewi's name comes from Dewi Shri and it could be assumed the author swapped the W for an S for Desi, and giving her twin a similar name by swapping the D for a G.
** As with Artemis (a female deity), gender doesn't seem to matter as Dewi Shri is a female, but Cosmic Warrior's Dewi is 100% male.

In the first chapter Fame shows talent for writing in the way the story opens and gives readers a taste of familiarity with some classic run-ins and mannerisms of the cast. But of course, we're not here to re-read Sailor Moon, Fame kicks off the series of changes with a new breed of monsters called Experiments, former heroes of mythology who've been reincarnated to work for the Dark Kingdom. Coupled with that, rather than have our heroine fighting with a tiara in a one-piece, a skirt, and heels, Usagi transforms into a lance wielding warrior in a Zero Suit Samus inspired {{LatexSpaceSuit}}. Luna and Artemis also seem to have bigger roles in this story, as of the latest chapter we've seen Luna as a cat and Artemis transform from human to cat, it's safe to assume soon we'll see a human Luna as well. The two felines are also a part of a secret organization made up a previous guardians from the Moon Kingdom, called the Silver Guard.

!!''Cosmic Warriors has examples of the following:''
*AdaptationInspiration: Just like in the series Naru Osaka is the first victim of the Dark Kingdom; however the author changes the encounter up, flips it around, and makes it original.
*AdaptationalBadass: So far Tuxedo Mask is shaping up to be a far cry from his anime self. He doesn't appear in the high window of OSA-P, but more like he's found rummaging through their jewelery cases and then breaks ''through'' a window where he begins dueling with a man wielding two lances.
**Fame also had Diarmuid cut him off at what could have been the start of a cheesy one-liner.
*Adult Fear: Although there haven't been any real monsters yet, the emotional fear that comes with sexual assault is enough to make even jaded adults cringe.
*AllMythsAreTrue: The very first villain Moon faces is a reincarnated Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, a hero from Irish mythology. As if the author's notes about bringing more mythology into the story wasn't enough, it is clearly stated that there will be more Experiments coming.
*ArmorPiercingAttack: Diarmuid's red lance, Gae Dearg, flies through a barrier Jadeite erects.
*AuthorAppeal: It's easy to tell the author is a fan of {{FateZero}}.
*BloodFromTheMouth: Diarmuid after being double-teamed by Mask and Moon.
*CallingYourAttacks: Moon Blade Slash! Warrior Moon is the only warrior that's been introduced so far, but yes, her main attack needs to be called.
*CoolMask: Tuxedo Mask of course! However, Warrior Moon also gets a mask that covers her entire face, reminiscent of a Vizard mask.
*DamselInDistress: Naru right off the bat.
*DarkerandEdgier: One way to make a story like Sailor Moon darker would be to add in gruesome monsters who are ripping humans from limb to limb. However Fame does it in a subtle way, by making the villains almost human. Although Diarmuid doesn't look like a regular person, he isn't recognizable as a monster, he walks around in public schools doesn't he? The true darkness in Cosmic Warriors lies in the fact that the evil in the world could be sitting beside you in class, or passing you on the street. Further shown when the off putting when Diarmuid turns out to be a rapist.
*Dual Wielding: Experiment-D-U-D uses two lances and also possesses two swords, which he and his clones use simultaneously.
*EarlyBirdCameo: When Fame said the characters would be coming in out of order, Fame wasn't kidding. As of chapter five we've met Ami, Minako, Artemis, and Makoto.
*TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt: Luna tells Usagi this in pretty much verbatim.
*Everything'sBetterwithPrincesses: The Moon Princess still needs to be found, just like in the anime.
*ExpendableClone: In the beginning Jadeite has 60 copies of Experiment-D-U-D, and by the third chapter has killed off 17.
*FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: The way which Experiment's die seems to be extremely cruel, alive while pieces of their bodies turn black and break away.
*Fanservice: Somewhat being hinted it in the description of Experiment-D-U-D, he's seen wearing a one-piece bodysuit that as the author puts it "fit him well, exposing each of his muscles and curves of his body."
*Foreshadowing: At the bottom of each chapter Fame leaves us with a small summary of the next chapter, of course its enough to make the reader want to come back.
**There's also a moment before Usagi transforms where she has flashes of images come before her, judging by the descriptions it's pretty easy to tell she's seeing future villains. Perhaps this is a clue that this fic will cover more than just the Dark Kingdom arc?
*FourIsDeath: They haven't all been introduced yet, but this is Sailor Moon, the Shitennou of course.
*HeartDrive: After being punctured with darts, going head to head with Tuxedo Mask and haven't his spine stabbed by Warrior Moon, Dirmaruid appears soon after completely healed. However when his life gem is crushed Diarmuid crumbles away into black dust.
*HenshinHero: Although seems to be able to recall some events from her past, her powers won't kick in until she's suited up.
*HeroSecretService: The Silver Guard, although it's only been mentioned a few times it's shaping up to be extremely significant.
*InfoDump: Part of the history we were expecting came in chapter 3, but the brunt of it, along with information regarding Usagi's transformation and weapon came in a flash back in chapter 5.
*KidnappedScientist: More like scientists, Luna explains that there were a string of kidnappings years ago that can be connected to the Dark Kingdom. They're to blame for Experiments.
*LateForSchool: Usagi of course.
*TheLittleShopThatWasntThereYesterday: Stack Attack is a kind of example of this, although it wasn't mentioned as just appearing, it was described as being a new building.
*NewTransferStudent: Ami so far, Diarmuid also makes a cameo in Usagi's school, although not claiming to be a student.
*PaperThinDisguise: Inverted with a full body suit and mask that leaves only lines for Usagi to see and breathe through, her signature buns even disappear as a Warrior.
*PowerGlows: Warrior Moon's only real power attack so far is her Moon Blade Slash, in order to use the attack she forces energy into her lance which then glows white.
*RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: After the attack on Naru in chapter two, Usagi is left in the dark about what really happens until chapter four when her rape is revealed.
**In the author notes Fame mentions chapter four was step one on making this a darker story. By making a main/supporting character a victim of sexual assault it plunges the story into a new kind of depth and catapults Usagi out of her skepticism for becoming a warrior and into vowing to protect her friends and everyone in the process.
*ShoutOut: There are many lines that seem to be taken directly from the anime, and woven flawlessly into the story.
*TransformationTrinket: Usagi's moon charm bracelet.
*VoluntaryShapeshifting: Artemis so far, showed he's capable of transforming from human to cat in just a few seconds without any kind of phrase.
*WhamEpisode: Chapter four, the revelation of Naru's rape. Gives Usagi not only the need to become a Warrior and the drive to fight, but takes the story ''down'' to new darker territory.
*WoundThatWillNotHeal: Experiment-D-U-D's golden spear inflicts wounds that won't heal naturally.

[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8886470/1/Cosmic-Warriors Cosmic Warriors]] is an {{AlternateUniverse}} {{Fanfic}} of [[Franchise/SailorMoon Sailor Moon]] created by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2985435/SomeoftheFame SomeoftheFame]]. After deciding to relish in the series that entertained Fame as a child, the author then searched for fan-made work made un the image of the series. Along the way Fame found two AU retellings of the series, and from there decided to create a retelling of their own. Speaking with the author as they crafted their tale I listened to Fame express desire to remake the series with two things in mind, making it [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DarkerAndEdgier darker]] and more mature. In the opening note for the story, Fame expresses the changes they've made to the story, citing artistic license as the reason for changing: the flow of plot, the villains, transformations, attacks, as well as the order in which the character we've come to know and love will be introduced.

Luna and Artemis also seem to have bigger roles in this story, as of the latest chapter we've seen Luna as a cat and Artemis transform from human to cat, it's safe to assume soon we'll see Luna as well. The two felines are also a part of a secret organization made up a previous guardians from the Moon Kingdom, called the Silver Guard.

Usagi is a clumsy, irresponsible, and ditzy 14 year old whose life changes when she receives a distressed phone call from her friend, claiming a man has broken in her home. Usagi rushes to her aid and comes across a robbery in progress, while following the thief she comes across another man. While attempting to save her friend Usagi is visited by a black cat that had been previously following her and is given a bracelet with a dangling charm on the end, in the shape of a crescent moon. With the aid of the cat Usagi manages to transform into the Cosmic Warrior, Warrior Moon and with further help from a masked thief, manages to save her friend. She is then told about her past and her duty to save the planet before a darkness like the world has never known takes over, thus putting an end to life as they know it.
