* BreathWeapon: In addition to Mothra’s webbing, Rodan can spit fireballs from his maw.

* CainAndAbel: San and his brothers (Ni and Ichi) are the Abel and the Cain respectively.

* CatLikeDragons: {{Downplayed}} by San and Godzilla respectively, who both at times produce purr-like vocalizations as an affectionate gesture.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Monster X dishes out some of these during the story. It’s also confirmed that Vivienne didn’t die quickly when Ghidorah ate her alive.

* DeadpanSnarker: Besides Jonah, Vivienne also has a few moments.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: How to break the news of what’s happened to Vivienne [[spoiler:to her mother]] in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/12 Chapter 12]]. Lampshaded by the characters.

* EvilIsNotAToy: Jonah [[IgnoredEpiphany evidently hasn’t taken anything away]] from what happened when he and Emma thought they could make Ghidorah do what they wanted it to, based on his trafficking of the decapitated head’s DNA and PlayingWithSyringes.

* MoreThanMindControl: It’s heavily implied that Ghidorah’s MindRape ultimately does this to those humans who aren’t driven to suicide.
* NightmareSequence: San and Vivienne’s shared dream in Chapter 3 turns into this, featuring numerous people whose deaths Vivienne feels in some way guilty over.

to:

* MixAndMatchCritters: Monster X has reptilian characteristics with some primate characteristics from Vivienne. Thor is part-primate, part-caprina.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Vivienne wasn't easily angered when she was human, and when she was it was terrifying, but after everything she's been through since Ghidorah ate her, she's changed likely forever while being no less fierce.
** In Chapter 5, the deciding factor in whether or not to trust San is for Vivienne, the fact he calls her by her name.
** Colonel Foster knows something isn't right when she becomes aware of Jonah’s AxCrazy napalm experiment.

** Hinted at with Thor, who experiences a jolt of paternal instinct when answering Vivienne and San's calls, and has no problem with sticking by and mentoring them.
** Again like in the Manual, Asher was [[LikeASonToMe Like A Son]] to Jonah. Still, it wasn’t enough to make it cross Jonah’s mind that he could instead have someone who wasn't dear to him take point and risk their life at Outpost 32.

Set after the events of ''Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters2019'' and based on TheStinger, the story's set-up in the first chapter is that not only does King Ghidorah's severed head still contain San's (also known among the fandom as "Kevin") living mind, but it’s also carrying Vivienne Graham's OnlyMostlyDead body after she was EatenAlive by Ghidorah's central head during the film, and San is reviving and regenerating her to form a new half-human, half-Ghidorah {{Kaiju}} chimera; with San and Vivienne's minds residing in separate heads on her transformed body as "brother and sister". Caged by Alan Jonah and his mercenaries in an unknown location after the duo's painful rebirth, Vivienne suffers from PTSD and makes a wary truce with San so they may escape to freedom. The story follows the fused siblings' building relationship and their struggle to avoid slipping to their pain and madness.

* AlternateContinuity: Though it appears the author originally hoped to match the fic's events within the frame of {{canon}} {{continuity}}, due to the delayed release of ''Film/GodzillaVsKong'' and the likely explanation of the fate of Ghidorah's severed head, the fic looks set to become this.

* BizarreAlienBiology: In addition to the MultipleHeadCase and inheriting some of Ghidorah’s powers; Monster X possesses two hearts, a third lung (acting as an "oxygen bladder" when the main lungs are too damaged to work), a "pre-stomach" organ which is thought to filter out food toxins, numerous glands of indeterminate function; and traces of aurum (gold) in their defective first form's skin and bones, which turns into argentum (silver) after their second transformation. Their second form has a mix of leathery skin and bony exoskeletal armor.

''Abraxas'' is a ''Franchise/{{Godzilla}}'' Film/MonsterVerse fanfiction written by [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/ Hrodvitnon]], which is available to read on [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/ FanFiction.net]] and [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/20059573 Archive Of Our Own]] (with extra author’s notes).

Caged by Alan Jonah and his mercenaries in an unknown location after the duo's painful rebirth, Vivienne suffers from PTSD and despite her initial distrust, she and San must learn to rely on each-other if they're ever to heal their wounds and overcome their demons.

Official description: "''Within the head lies the seat of the soul. Despite all appearances, Dr. Graham didn't die that night. Ghidorah has plans for her, punishment for her efforts to contain him. He will remake her in his own image. And now Jonah has them both. But things rarely go according to plan, and the head left behind to keep her is too curious for his own good. Far too curious... and far too eager to learn.''"

!!This story contains examples of:

* AlternateContinuity: Though it appears the author originally hoped to match the fic's events within the frame of {{canon}} {{continuity}}, due to the delayed release of ''Film/GodzillaVsKong'' and the likely explanation of the fate of Ghidorah's severed head, the fic looks set to become this.
* AlternateSelf: There are essentially at least two versions of San, as the San who serves as one of the {{protagonist}}s only has memories of Ghidorah's actions up to his head's decapitation, and doesn't remember what his regrown doppelgänger did — kind of like an outdated backup file copy. [[spoiler:An EvilDoppelganger of San who has the same pre-BrainUploading memories has regenerated alongside Ni and Ichi via Ghidorah's surviving DNA traces. Vivienne is able to tell the two San's apart when the evil San speaks to her in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/11 Chapter 11]], as her San's mental voice is slightly changing with his CharacterDevelopment, whereas the evil San's voice sounds the same as when San first fused to her]].
* AntiAntichrist: [[spoiler:Ghidorah]] appears to be trying to push San and Vivienne down a StartOfDarkness via PsychicLink, something that neither of them want. Adding to the trope is that Monster X is a sort-of offspring of Ghidorah, who is a SatanicArchetype.
* ArbitrarySkepticism:
** [[InvokedTrope Invoked by name]] in Chapter 8 when Mark Russell doesn't believe that Vivienne is BackFromTheDead as a BalefulPolymorph {{Kaiju}}, prompting Mariko to remind him of Ghidorah's other borderline-[[EldritchAbomination Eldritch]] abilities which Mark himself witnessed. To be fair on Mark, Dr. Brooks says that what's happened to Vivienne is unprecedented even for Monarch.
** Vivienne had a similar attitude to [[Characters/MonsterVerseSkullIslandExpedition Bill Randa]] about the belief that aliens (at least ones vaguely resembling humans) might exist, until San tells her he and his brothers once destroyed an advanced civilization; in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/10 Chapter 10]].
* ArtifactOfDoom: The decapitated Ghidorah head inside the abandoned Monarch outpost, which is implied to still have some of Ghidorah in it after San's consciousness has left.
* BackFromTheDead:
** Vivienne, as she did indeed die -- [[spoiler:to the point that [[ArtisticLicenseBiology brain activity temporarily ceased]]]] -- while she was inside Ghidorah, before San revived and began transforming her.
** It's also revealed in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/5 Chapter 5]] that Ghidorah will always come back from death eventually so long as [[FromASingleCell some piece of it remains]]. San's original Ghidorah-head hasn't been disposed of, [[spoiler:and Ghidorah's minds including San's EvilDoppelganger are now active]].
** Mothra is alive during the fic due to her BornAgainImmortality.
* BadassBoast:
** Ghidorah has this for a Bone Singer who communicated with it, in the past in Chapter 5:[[note]]The below capitalization, font and lack of grammar is how each of the trio’s dialogue is respectively written in the fic[[/note]]
--->'''Ichi''': '''WE ARE DEATHLESS'''\\
'''Ni''': WE ARE ETERNAL\\
'''Ichi''': '''WE ARE THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS'''\\
'''Ni''': CONSUMED EMPIRES OF FLESH AND BONE AND METAL\\
'''San''': we live forever cut off our heads and they will grow back\\
'''Ichi''': '''THE HEAD IS THE SEAT OF THE SOUL'''\\
'''Ni''': THE HEAD IS THE SEAT OF THE SOUL\\
'''San''': the head is the seat of the soul
** Vivienne has this for Jonah when she and San are almost ready to escape containment:
--->"''Did you think us defeated? Broken down to be your tool? Did you think yourself like Odin, all-seeing and all-knowing? Binding us like Fenrir, foretold to bring about great destruction at the time of Ragnarök? For all his wisdom and insight and knowledge, did it ever occur to Odin that by binding the wolf he was only creating a self-fulfilling prophecy? Fenrir's sons will devour the sun and moon, Gleipnir will break, and Fenrir will have his vengeance on Odin. This fetter will break...''"
* BalefulPolymorph: Vivienne is understandably distraught when she's reborn from the Ghidorah head as a transformed monstrosity, and initially hopes in vain it'll turn out to be a bad dream. The Baleful part probably wasn't helped by her and San's initial CameBackWrong form putting them in a chronic state of pain for months. After they've gotten better, Vivienne accepts that she physically isn't human anymore but she still needs to hold on to her humanity.
* BerserkButton:
** For Vivienne, it’s deriding her relationship with the late Serizawa, or threatening her loved ones such as Madison. It's also advisable that one avoid reminding her of Ghidorah and triggering her PTSD.
** For San, it’s inflicting serious physical or psychological harm on his sister.
** Ghidorah’s middle head (Ichi/Eldest Brother) specifically was ticked off by humans (namely Vivienne) building a "cage" around Ghidorah while it was frozen.
** Getting a whiff of Ghidorah's scent really makes Rodan forget about everything except what the three-headed monster did to him, in Chapter 8.
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** Monster X overall has this. Vivienne wasn’t easily angered when she was a human, but her temper was frightening when she was pushed too far, and she now has more {{Berserk Button}}s due to her TraumaCongaLine and PTSD. Likewise, San is a real sweetheart towards Vivienne and is at least tolerant and mildly curious towards humans, but God help you if you hurt his sister. (Did we also mention Monster X’s storm powers are fuelled by anger and hate?)
** Mothra has an angelic and benevolent personality, but you do ''not'' want to cause a harmful ruckus involving those she considers her children, as Rodan and Thor learn in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/9 Chapter 9]].
* BloodKnight:
** Though San isn't an OmnicidalManiac like his brothers and is less sadistic unless provoked, he does seem to genuinely enjoy a fight.
** Subverted by Godzilla, who draws the line between TranquilFury and TheBerserker in Chapter 8.
* BodyHorror:
** Monster X’s first form is in a chronic state of agony, has ingrown extra fangs along the jaws; and a horrifically extreme case of ''Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva'' which is exacerbated by the {{Healing Factor}}'s defect, making it very difficult for Viv and San to move certain joints without risking breaking their bones.
** [[spoiler:Then there’s the {{Artificial Zombie}}s created by Jonah and his paramilitary hybridizing Ghidorah’s DNA onto humans]].
* BreakThemByTalking:
** San and Vivienne use this method to turn the tables on Jonah in Chapter 6 (see TheReasonYouSuckSpeech).
** [[spoiler:Ghidorah is attempting to drive Monster X down a StartOfDarkness, using techniques varying from tempting to belittling, to striking when Vivienne is mentally vulnerable.]]
* BullyingADragon: In Chapter 4, Jonah has one of his soldiers deliberately attempt to provoke Monster X to anger by relentlessly hurling increasingly vicious taunts at Vivienne. When he finally goes too far on her, San takes over the wheel and shuts him up permanently -- ''[[BewareTheNiceOnes and]]'' [[BewareTheNiceOnes mercilessly]].
* DisposableVagrant: Alan Jonah's militia utilize refugees from Moscow's destruction as manual labor.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The course of Jonah’s efforts to psychologically break down Monster X are disturbingly similar to brainwashing and mental defense-breaking tactics historically described in real-life.
* TheDreaded: Ghidorah is despised by Earth’s Titans, who refer to it as "the Enemy" despite it briefly controlling them. Humans who encountered Ghidorah during its rampage tend to have a level of psychological trauma from it, to varying degrees.
** In Chapter 11, the Skullcrawlers are rightfully terrified of [[spoiler:the {{Artificial Zombie}}s]]. The ''Skullcrawlers''!
* EasilyForgiven: With the exceptions of Godzilla and Mothra, this trope is outright averted by other characters regarding San. Rodan gets HotBlooded when he first recognizes San, even Thor who has a soft spot for Vivienne seems quite tetchy when addressing San directly, and initially the Russell's and Monarch can barely look directly at San without feeling hatred or wariness.
* EmergencyTransformation: Of the {{Metamorphosis}} variety. Monster X receives one which is externally instigated by Mothra in Chapter 7, transforming it into its second form and fixing its initial PowerIncontinence and BodyHorror.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: In Chapter 6, Tejada and her unnamed partner are both disgusted when Jonah [[ItsAllAboutMe doesn't think about his soldiers' welfare]] when refusing to get them away from the [[ArtifactOfDoom severed Ghidorah head]], and when it's immediately afterwards revealed that Jonah used his [[LikeASonToMe surrogate son]] as a meat-shield at Outpost 32 [[spoiler:and has been using their [[DisposableVagrant manual labor]] as [[UnwittingTestSubject human]] [[TestedOnHumans guinea-pigs]]]]. It seems to be a factor in Tejada's [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere Screw This, I'm Outta Here]] HeelFaceTurn.
* ExpositionBeam: When San and Vivienne view each-other's memories in Chapter 5.
* GoneHorriblyRight:
** Trying to [[BullyingADragon provoke]] Monster X in Chapter 4 worked far too well, leading to the ''brutal'' deaths of at least three of Jonah’s mercenaries.
** [[spoiler:It’s believed the alien civilization who created Ghidorah intended it to be a living weapon, and deliberately drove its three minds to psychosis so it would be more effective. San recalls in Chapter 10 that he and his brothers destroyed what these beings wanted them to – then they destroyed them as well]].
* GoneHorriblyWrong: [[spoiler:The alien civilization who created Ghidorah apparently didn’t count on it turning on and exterminating them in {{revenge}} after they turned it into a psychotic PersonOfMassDestruction. It has since been doing exactly what they wanted it to again and again to all other life it finds in the universe]].
* HeelFaceTurn:
** San; who is pretty much HeroicNeutral after bonding to Vivienne, but has a brutal HeelRealization when viewing Vivienne’s memories in Chapter 5.
** PlayedWith by Mariko and played straighter by Tejada. Both grow increasingly reluctant and disillusioned respectively with Jonah, and they’re both respectively quite copasetic to Monarch after being apprehended.
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: Though the terrestrial Titans are primarily known amongst themselves by other titles – the Deep One (Godzilla), Giver of Life (Mothra) – they also at times refer to each-other by names that humans have for them such as "King"/"Queen of the Monsters" and "Fire Demon"; and it’s explicitly confirmed that Ghidorah is the name which the alien destroyer’s heads answer to. Possibly {{justified}} in some cases by [[SpeaksFluentAnimal special humans’ ability to communicate with the Titans in ancient times]], and by the fact most of the Titans’ nicknames originated in legends rather than being invented by Monarch.
** After Monster X’s EmergencyTransformation, San appears to have [[AppropriatedAppellation taken his nickname as his new name]], rejecting Ghidorah’s name.
* HumanityIsInfectious: Invoked almost word-for-word by Vivienne in Chapter 9, when addressing San's HeelFaceTurn. San's [[{{Telepathy}} telepathic voice]] is gradually changing with his CharacterDevelopment and picking up Vivienne's British accent.
* InSeriesNickname: In {{canon}}, Ghidorah’s heads were named Ichi, Ni and San by the production crew and were never called such InUniverse. In this fic, it’s revealed in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/2 Chapter 2]] that Vivienne gave the heads those names while she was monitoring Outpost 32. Only San answers to his nickname, while Ichi and Ni are primarily referred to as Eldest Brother and Elder Brother respectively. San and Vivienne collectively and individually have a couple other nicknames in the story.
* ItsAllAboutMe:
** In Chapter 6, Jonah doesn't for a moment think about his soldiers' welfare when ignoring Vivienne's warning that the [[ArtifactOfDoom severed Ghidorah head]] is still dangerous. He's also in the same scene called out by Vivienne and San for using his surrogate son as a meat-shield but being unwilling to risk his own life.
** Mariko accuses Mark Russell of this (see TheReasonYouSuckSpeech).
* [[AnimalTalk Kaiju Talk]]: Vivienne is one of the modern humans with a strong hereditary potential ability to communicate with the Titans to a limited extent (manifesting as a hypnotic state with throat-singing). All the Titans including Monster X are able to communicate with each-other and understand what they're saying.
* LastOfHisKind: Godzilla and Thor (''Titanus þunraz''). Ghidorah was partly or wholly involved in making both of them this.
* [[LikeASonToMe Like a Son/Daughter to Me]]: Like in canon, this was the nature of Serizawa’s relationship with Vivienne and Jonah’s with Asher.
* MisplacedRetribution: Madison and Mark both feel animosity towards San, not least due to Ghidorah hunting Madison in Boston and killing Vivienne in Antarctica. In actuality, San genuinely doesn't know what his regrown AlternateSelf did after Isla de Mara, and it was technically Ichi who killed Vivienne while San only did the transforming and resurrecting bits.
* NightmareSequence: San and Vivienne’s shared dream in Chapter 3 turns into this, featuring numerous people whose deaths Vivienne feels in some way guilty over.
* NotQuiteDead:
** Ghidorah’s left head ripped off by Godzilla remains partially alive and retains San’s mind.
** It’s also revealed in Chapter 5 that the rest of Ghidorah can regenerate FromASingleCell – or a single head – if some part of it remains, meaning San’s brothers will return in the future. [[spoiler:Eventually, Ichi, Ni and San’s EvilDoppelganger do regenerate]].
* OCStandIn: The author confirmed [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/628652716177096704/ here]] that Tejada, Travis and Kauffman are this to notable nameless {{Mook}}s in ''Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters2019''. Travis is also based on a named minor character in the movie {{novelization}}.
* ParentalSubstitute: The author really seems to like this trope:
** Serizawa was this to Vivienne like in canon's [[AllThereInTheManual Manual]], and she has a ''severe'' [=BSoD=] after she learns of his death. She calls him "father" a few times in both Japanese and Kaiju Talk.
** Vivienne in turn was this towards Madison. Madison sincerely admits a few times, including to Vivienne herself, that she wished Vivienne would've become her mother if things had happened differently, and in Chapter 9, Mark goes as far as stating Vivienne was more of a mother to Madison than her actual mother managed to be.
** Vivienne can be seen as a form of this towards San, in contrast to his brothers who were the only kin he knew before bonding to Vivienne -- he feels little sentiment for Ichi and Ni after being separated from Ghidorah, compared to how Vivienne eventually [[DesperatelyCravesAffection shows him affection]] and forms a [[SiblingTeam strong brother-sister bond]] with him.
** Mothra apparently considers San and Vivienne her children after Monster X's EmergencyTransformation. In Chapter 9, Vivienne is involuntarily reminded of her human mother.
* PlayingWithSyringes: It's revealed in Chapter 6 that Jonah and his Basement Club have been dabbling in this, apparently with EvilutionaryBiologist motives, [[spoiler:using the {{Disposable Vagrant}}s as unwilling test subjects; fusing Ghidorah's DNA to humans and creating {{Artificial Zombie}}s]].
* PosthumousCharacter:
** Serizawa is dead, but his memory lingers strongly, especially with Vivienne. He’s apparently revered by the world for his HeroicSacrifice.
** Ghidorah (San’s regrown AlternateSelf, Ni and Ichi) is dead, but its actions have caused San and Vivienne’s transformation into Monster X and it’s left a shadow on them from beyond the grave. [[spoiler:Then Ghidorah’s minds start regenerating FromASingleCell]].
* PowerIncontinence: In their first form, Monster X has too few traces of metal in its body to conduct electricity like Ghidorah did, and they struggle to awaken their electrical powers. They succeed mainly by using emotions such as hatred or anger.
* PowerUpgradingDeformation:
** Vivienne’s first transformation inside San’s decapitated head does this to her, causing her to inherit Ghidorah’s [[ShockAndAwe bio-electricity]] and HealingFactor but also turning her into a crippled BodyHorror hybrid. [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] by Vivienne and San’s EmergencyTransformation.
** Then there’s the part-Ghidorah {{Artificial Zombie}}s [[spoiler:created by Jonah and his “Basement Club”]].
* RealAfterAll: [[spoiler:Ghidorah's voices in San and Vivienne's heads trying to drive them to despair or to attack]].
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech:
** Vivienne and San tear into Jonah when they work out that he basically sacrificed a soldier who was [[LikeASonToMe Like A Son To Him]] without thinking of a better alternative, but wouldn’t risk his own skin when Emma pointed a gun at him; in Chapter 6:
--->'''Vivienne''': Did you stop and think, maybe have someone else take point? Someone who isn't like your own family? A real father would trust his son's abilities, but still do what he can to help him. I would have risked my life to save someone. I ''died'' saving someone.\\
'''Jonah''': Congratulations, you’re a hero.\\
'''San''': And you. Are a cow-ard.\\
[…]\\
'''Vivienne''': You said Madison escaped with the ORCA. Remember that? So how did Emma get out? Did she help Madison, or…\\
[…]\\
'''Jonah:''' […] Since my men refused to cooperate, she held me at gunpoint.\\
'''Vivienne''': And?\\
'''Jonah''': …I let her go.\\
'''Vivienne''': Imagine that. Hardened mercenaries against one scientist. Tell us, ''Colonel'', did you think your men wouldn’t fire fast enough before she took the shot?\\
'''San''': Would you. Have sacri-ficed one of your own. To keep your-self. A-live?
** In Chapter 8, Mariko tears into Mark Russell. Though her knowledge of him renouncing his anti-Titan sentiments seems to be outdated, she makes a real point about his ItsAllAboutMe personality.
--->'''Mark Russell''': Do you realize how it feels to relive losing a child to monsters turning your home into a war zone?! How close I probably was to losing my daughter the same way I lost my son?!\\
'''Mariko''': Oh, shut up for once and get in line, Russell! You talk like you're the only one who's suffered! What about everyone else who lost someone, or everyone? Do they not count? Just faceless statistics? What's so special about you that makes your problems so much more important? You talk on and on about how much you hate the Titans and how we should have killed them and blah blah blah! Spouting bullshit is all you're good for! And Graham — would you say she spent her life saving yours? Because it sounds to me like she wasted it on you!
** Madison delivers a speech about why her own dead mother sucked in Chapter 12 – it seems fair to say that while the loss hurt at the time, Maddie still hasn’t forgiven everything else her mother did:
--->'''Madison Russell''': This might come as a shock to you, President of the Emma Russell Fanclub, but while she [[VillainHasAPoint had a point]] about the Titans and their beneficial presence to the world, SHE WOULDN’T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU! Everyone in this room – people who thought she was their friend, the best of us – she would have let us all die in a fire if it meant seeing her plans through! She didn’t agonize over the people of Isla de Mara! Do you know… ''[laughs]'' Do you know, [[AllThereInTheManual I heard Jonah order one of his men to, and I quote, "slit my throat" if I pulled anything]]… and she just stood there doing ''nothing''.\\
'''Mariko''': […] I read the reports from Boston. She sacrificed her life, didn’t she?\\
'''Madison Russell''': So we’re just going to ignore the hypocrisy in trying to avenge one dead child by causing God knows how many kids to die in the process?\\
'''Mark Russell''': […] Maybe she had good intentions for the world, but it didn’t apply to the people living in it.\\
'''Ilene Chen''': "We were born of risen apes, not fallen angels." Emma’s problem was she focused too much on the dark side of mankind.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Godzilla among the Titans, and Dr. Brooks among Monarch.
* RedBaron: Several if not all of the Titans have numerous names. Humans with the hereditary ability to communicate with Titans are known by various names among the Titans themselves depending on the Titan in question; including Bone Singers, Corpse Whisperers, Grave Chanters and Those Who Speak To The Spirits.
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated:
** Vivienne of course, who is still believed by the world at large to be dead, and Monarch only learn otherwise several chapters into the story.
** Mariko, a character in the movie novelization who was responsible for setting Behemoth loose, is revealed to have [[FakingTheDead faked her death]].
** And then there’s San and Vivienne breaking the news to Monarch [[spoiler:that Ghidorah is regenerating FromASingleCell]].
* SanitySlippage:
** Vivienne has been teetering on this due to her [[ShellShockedVeteran PTSD]] and TraumaCongaLine, most notably in Chapter 11 when she hears of Admiral Stenz’ death.
** The psychic influence of the decapitated Ghidorah-head gradually inflicts this on Jonah and most of his Basement Club with varying effects; making Jonah turn genuinely crazy, making Travis and others turn suicidal at differing rates, and making some act… well… ''creepy''.
* ScarsAreForever:
** Rodan is mentioned in Chapter 10 as having a scar on his rocky skin where Mothra impaled him in the film.
** Mariko is somewhat disfigured from the destruction of Outpost 58, with noticeable skin grafts on her face.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Mariko and Tejada when Monster X escapes in Chapter 6, partly because it's clear at this point that Jonah and his closest subordinates are [[SanitySlippage losing it]] and that there’s no such thing as safe for anyone inside the base.
* ShellShockedVeteran: Vivienne's experience of being EatenAlive by Ichi has turned her into this after she's reborn as part of Monster X, and the TraumaCongaLine she's suffered since hasn't done much to help; exhibiting signs of untreated PTSD. Human characters show much milder signs of PTSD from encountering Ghidorah.
* ShockAndAwe: Monster X, who has inherited Ghidorah’s [[PsychoElectro bio-electrical abilities]] (referred to by San as "the storm"), although their abilities aren’t quite the same. Also Thor, who can use his own bio-electrical powers offensively or as a form of communication.
* ShownTheirWork: The author really knows their [[AllThereInTheManual MonsterVerse lore]].
* SurvivorGuilt:
** Vivienne's nightmare in Chapter 3 reveals she has a level of this concerning numerous civilians and Monarch personnel who were killed by the [=MUTOs=], Jonah’s mercenaries and Ghidorah.
** Thor has a small amount concerning the genocide of his species, because he knows he went into hibernation as much to preserve his own life as to prevent Ghidorah from using his bio-electrical powers for its own ends.
** Mark Russell has been suffering this after Vivienne's apparent death in Antarctica, and Monarch personnel's hushed YouShouldHaveDiedInstead feelings have added to it. It doesn't get better when Vivienne returns, until she sets him straight in Chapter 9.
