There was a wildly popular ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' fanfic called ''Fanfic/NobodyDies'', written by Gregg Landsman. It played loosely with the universe to make a distinct and peculiar story that was mostly happy and hilarious. The darker moments hit as hard as the original text, but were mostly in the early stages of the text before its unique flavour became overwhelming. At this point, Landsman made changes to tone down the silliness caused by having dozens of Ree and AI with god-like powers. He stopped PanderingToTheBase of his fanatical forummers only to have a CreatorBreakdown when his new direction was ignored and he was tired of complaints.

That was back in February of 2012, however. Currently, [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9033037/1/Rebuild-of-Nobody-Dies-One-Point-Zero The Rebuild of Nobody Dies]] is fourteen chapters long. By and large, it starts off roughly the same--17 years after Second Impact, sixteen year old Shinji Ikari is called to NERV by his parents to ''shut up and get in the giant robot.'' Only, instead of a lime green monster rampaging around the city, the Angel attacking Tokyo-3 is Iblis.

As this is a [=GreggHL=] story, threads are up at Spacebattles. As with the original Nobody Dies, this fic more or less died when Gregg Landsman deleted his notes for both fics.

* DeadpanSnarker: Shinji is this ''big time'' compared to his counterpart in the [[Fanfic/NobodyDies original fic]]. It also helps that he's the OnlySaneMan here. He apparently learned a lot of it from his aunt, and has this trait in common with his not-exactly-adopted-sister, Kei.

* DynamicEntry: Mari does this early on with Shinji like in [[Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion Evangelion 2.22]]. Except she's twelve, and she winds up standing on Shinji's chest. Rei also performs an Evangelion-sized one that is suitably epic.

* Squee: Rei tends to get very excited about piloting her Eva, and becomes even more so when whatever she's fighting does something cool, like becoming a Transformer.

* CrazyAwesome: All of the Ree, but each in their own unique ways. Mari and Mana have shades of this, too. Shinji, perhaps ironically, is an inversion of this trope--he's awesome because he's ''not'' crazy, and even in this setting, SanityHasAdvantages.
