''VideoGame/MetalGear'' may be considered one of the definitively-known video games of its generation and a major KillerAPP for the UsefulNotes/PlayStation, but there are [[DarthWiki/DethroningMomentOfSuck quite a few moments]] that no amount of nanomachines can fix.

** Tropers/{{Tinandel_1}}: I hated ''Ground Zeroes'' so much it convinced me to cancel my preorder of ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain''. Nearly every narrative aspect of the game fell flat with me: From the primary objectives of the mission being to rescue two characters I hated ([[spoiler: Paz for being a traitor]]; why would I want to rescue her? She almost [[spoiler: started a nuclear war, entirely on purpose.]] And Chico for being [[spoiler: the epitome of TheLoad who contributed nothing and constantly needing saving.... which, by the way, is what happens again here.]] The painfully blatant and in-your-face TakeThat against the American military and Guantanemo Bay, the self-righteousness MSF, and probably most of all, the ''painfully'' over-the-top attempt to be DarkerAndEdgier with things like graphic depictions of torture, bodily mutilation, and horrifically painful operations conducted without anesthesia. All ending with Kojima taking the opportunity to once again drop a pithy quote or two musing about the morality of war. This little mini-campaign wasn't just bad, it actively repulsed me.

** Tropers/{{Crazyrabbits}}: Mission 46: "The Man Who Sold The World", which exemplifies the game's troubled production. ''Oh boy, does it ever''. The level starts by forcing you to replay the entire prologue (hospital) level, ''complete with tutorial button prompts!'' If you manage to tough it out through that, you get the exact same cutscenes as before... with additional context revealing that [[spoiler:the Big Boss you played as throughout the entire game is the Medic from ''Ground Zeroes'']]. Not only does this cause a ton of continuity and plot issues (for one, [[spoiler:Ishmael has no facial hair and is incredibly lanky, while the real Big Boss has suddenly sprouted a full head of shaggy hair and a lot of muscle mass in the span of an hour]], but the swerve is so transparent that it qualifies as TheUntwist due to how easy it is to figure out in the very first cutscene of the game.
** Tropers/{{CidSilverWing}}: As much as I enjoyed the free-roaming sandbox gameplay, it wore me down very quickly over time as I slogged through the missions trying to unlock everything. But Mission 46, as mentioned above, truly sealed the deal for me. Now I must fully admit, I'm rather stupid, and on the first time playing or watching anything I never ever see the twists coming (because I honestly just don't expect anything and let everything kinda unfold for itself). [[spoiler: We find out we've been playing a random Medic from Ground Zeroes, who by order from Big Boss and whoever else, was selected to become an impostor so Big Boss can escape everything, and then in the very final cutscene we see this guy EMBRACE his new phony identity after just swallowing everything Big Boss says about him "building his own legacy". Excuse me - if you went out of your way to impersonate Arnold Schwarzenegger and became a profoundly successful bodybuilder, that's not you carving out a bit of history for yourself, you're just stealing someone else's work and taking credit for it, willing or not, good and bad. If that was me in the Metal Gear universe being so blatantly used as a puppet and scapegoat I would have reclaimed my old identity, spilled everything to Mother Base and initiated a campaign to take down Big Boss myself, damn the consequences it would have for the series.]] After being so grossly disappointed by how Chapter 2 lost steam astonishingly quickly, I get treated to tbe biggest "fuck you" I've ever gotten from a video game narrative, and this is solid evidence that Konami just straight-up doesn't care anymore, and Kojima himself needs to stop buckling to fan demand already by being so obviously passive-aggressive with every game he's forced to make.

Keep in mind:
* Sign your entries
* One moment per game to a troper, if multiple entries are signed to the same troper the more recent one will be cut.
* Moments only, no "just everything he said," or "The entire game" entries.
* No contesting entries. This is subjective, the entry is their opinion.
* No natter. As above, anything contesting an entry will be cut, and anything that's just contributing more can be made its own entry.
* Explain ''why'' it's a DarthWiki/DethroningMomentOfSuck.
* Please make sure the moment is fictional and is neither an event that occured in real life nor something gameplay-related. We have a perfectly good ScrappyMechanic page for the latter.
* No ALLCAPS, no '''bold''', and no ''italics'' unless it's the title of a work. We are not yelling the [=DMoSs=] out loud.

* Tropers/{{cricri300}}: The Psycho Mantis BossBattle in the first Solid game. Some may find it cool but the complete break in the fourth wall was so sudden that it completly ruined any immersion I had into the game. I could only stare at the screen while repeating "[[FlatWhat what]]" for a good thirty seconds until I stopped playng.

* {{Ecclytennysmithylove}}: My DMOS would have to be the death of [[spoiler: Emma Emmerich]] in VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2SonsOfLiberty. After [[spoiler: Emma]] dies, Otacon decided [[spoiler: to leave her corpse on the Big Shell, which is going to flood]] [[BigWhat ... what?]] I'm sorry, Otacon, but what you just said sounded like you don't care for [[spoiler:your sister]]. [[spoiler: Leaving your dead sister in the offshore facility that's going to be flooded]] does not solve the problem. A better solution would be to bring [[spoiler: your dead sister]] safely to your hometown and give her a proper burial. Even worse, neither Snake nor Raiden call out on Otacon to make him change his mind. Although the security camera did not show [[spoiler: Emma's corpse when the flooding happened]], I had a hard time falling asleep because I was completely shocked and couldn't believe how uncaring Otacon was. However, I have high hopes that maybe [[spoiler: Emma]] will be SparedByTheAdaptation if, by chance, the game gets adapted into a film.
