[[spoiler:When it's unleashed on Arveil, Varias has to supercharge a Healing spirit with Aether to keep him from dying, and even then, he's still horrifically scarred.]]

''Aetherial Knight'' is an epic fantasy novel series created by Tropers/LilyTheLitten.

There exist three planes of reality. The first is the Veritas, the Physical World, inhabited by humanity and its offshoots. The second is the Aether, the Celestial World, inhabited by [[ElementalEmbodiment elemental spirits]]. The third is the Nether, the Chthonic World, a place of corruption and evil where nothing can exist. Spirits can freely cross over between the Aether and the Veritas, and humans can pact with them to wield ElementalPowers; such humans are called ''Spiritbound''.

Arveil, a simple fisherman's son, never thought he'd encounter a spirit. However, a trip to the capital ends up disrupted by a horde of [[TheCorruption Nether-corrupted spirits]] descending upon the city. Arveil tries to help the defense of the city, but it is ultimately his ChildhoodFriend Varias who chases off the spirits--and, in the process, is revealed to be [[TheChosenOne the Aetherial Knight]], the only person in the world able to control raw Aether.

!!Tropes associated with this series include:

* CPRCleanPrettyReliable: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. [[spoiler:After Varias nearly drowns, Arveil performs CPR. It's ''reliable'' in that it works. Clean and pretty...not so much. [[spoiler:As the series goes on, however, it becomes obvious to the readers and the other characters that their feelings for each other go beyond platonic, which they themselves [[LoveEpiphany eventually realize]].]]
* RedOniBlueOni: Varias is the Red Oni--loud, confident, dramatic, and easily taking to his role as TheChosenOne [[spoiler:on the surface.]] Arveil is the Blue Oni--patient, calm, quiet, and choosing to accompany Varias primarily to keep him from accidentally getting himself killed.
* SuperDrowningSkills: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]]--being the son of a merchant in a landlocked city, Varias never learned how to swim. [[spoiler:At one point, he nearly drowns and Arveil, who ''does'' know how to swim, has to rescue him.]]
