However, Family is most famous for airing numerous shows acquired from Creator/{{ABC Family}}'s sisters: Creator/DisneyChannel, Disney Junior, and Creator/DisneyXD. Family would even go so far as to replace some it's own program blocks with Disney-branded blocks. For example, the preschool-aimed ''Playhouse/Family Jr.'' block would relaunched as ''Playhouse Disney on Family'' (to coincide with the launch of the Playhouse Disney channel), while the action-oriented ''Power Box'' was replaced with a Jetix-branded block. It got to the point where it was nicknamed "Disney Channel Canada".

Outside of that, Family has produced several original shows of its own, such as ''Literature/{{Franklin}}'', ''Series/LifeWithDerek'', and ''WesternAnimation/KatieAndOrbie''.

Family Channel's spinoffs include.
* Family Jr. - Originally "Playhouse Disney Channel, this network targets preschoolers almost exclusively. This channel was launched as both a multiplex feed of Family and a separate French-language channel, now known as Télémagino.
* Family CHRGD - A cable channel that used to be the first Canadian incarnation of Creator/DisneyXD. This channel basically airs all of Family's boy-skewing programming, along with some exclusive shows of its own.
