Ewan Eynon Hooper, (23 October 1935 -- 6 April 2023), was a Scottish actor best known for playing Alec Foster in ''Series/HiDeHi''.

He graduated from RADA and in his thirties helped found the Greenwich Theatre, opening in 1969. Also in The60s, Hooper made guest appearances in series including ''Series/TheAvengers1960s'', ''Series/Redcap1964'', ''Series/DixonOfDockGreen'', ''Series/ManInASuitcase'', and ''Series/StrangeReport'', and had a large role in the film ''Film/DraculaHasRisenFromTheGrave'' as a priest who has lost his faith and is enslaved by Dracula.

At the start of The70s, he appeared in ''Film/JuliusCaesar1970'', but the rest of the decade was lacking in work for him. In The80s, he founded the Scottish Theatre Company in Glasgow and was their director. He also played the recurring antagonist Alec Foster in the final two series of ''Hi-de-Hi!''. Once The90s rolled around, Hooper was in high demand, going back to TV guest roles and making several appearances on the stage.

As the 2000s came, Hooper decided to take fewer acting roles. He made one final film appearance in ''Film/KinkyBoots'' in 2005, and his final role came in a 2009 episode of ''Series/DocMartin''.

He died at the age of 87.
