While her parents didn't approve of her pursuing an acting career, in her teens she joined the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Come 1956, she joined the Glasgow Citizens' Theatre Company. Crosbie appeared in her first film (The Bridal Path) in 1959 and her first episode of a TV series (an episode of Probation Officer) in 1962, but her big break wouldn't be until 1970 when she played UsefulNotes/CatherineOfAragon in Series/TheSixWivesOfHenryVIII, a role that won her a UsefulNotes/BAFTA for Best Actress in 1971.

Annette Crosbie, OBE, (12 February 1934), is a Scottish actress best known for playing Margaret Meldrew in Series/OneFootInTheGrave.

Crosbie won her second and final BAFTA in 1976, for her portrayal of UsefulNotes/QueenVictoria in Series/EdwardTheSeventh the year prior. Following this, she played the Fairy Godmother in Film/TheSlipperAndTheRose, voiced Galadriel in WesternAnimation/TheLordOfTheRings, and played the Abbess in Film/HawkTheSlayer.

While Crosbie had less of a prominent presence in TheEighties, she sprung back into the spotlight in TheNineties, starring in One Foot in the Grave as Margaret Meldrew, the long-suffering wife of Creator/RichardWilson's Victor. During the same decade, she played Dr. Finlay's housekeeper, Janet, in Doctor Finlay, appeared in an episode of One Foot writer David Renwick's other series, Series/JonathanCreek, voiced Granny Weatherwax in WesternAnimation/WyrdSisters, and was appointed OBE in 1998.

She has still been acting since TurnOfTheMillennium, with some of her roles including Jessie in Film/CalendarGirls, Mr. H's Aunt in Series/LittleDorrit, Sadie Cairncross in Hope Springs, and Cissy Godfrey in the 2016 film adaptation of Series/DadsArmy.

Her daughter Selina Griffiths is also an actress.
