[[folder:Final Fantasy]]
* ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' has done this from the beginning.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyI Garland]], once a disgraced knight of Corneria, is TheManBehindTheMan who entered a mutual agreement with the Fiends to become Chaos.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyII Emperor Mateus]] is a despot who openly orchestrated his forces' hostile invasion of foreign territories, and betrayed the Devil to go OneWingedAngel. Unlike Garland, he is always the end goal and BigBad, and doesn't even relinquish the roll in death.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIII Cloud of Darkness]] is a natural force come to pass and made its appearance at the very end.
*** Xande also merits mention: Unlike Garland and the Emperor, who were initially normal men who eventually craved power, Xande was an immortal whose [[ImmortalsFearDeath loss of immortality]] was the driving force for his actions. Additionally, unlike the aforementioned men who [[OneWingedAngel grew stronger]] upon tapping into dark powers, Xande merely dies after being defeated and is replaced by the Cloud of Darkness.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV Zemus]] orchastrates the entire game from afar with mind control, and comes back through [[ThePowerOfHate sheer rage]].
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyV Exdeath]] is a centuries-old clump of demons stuffed into a tree that once wished to rule over the world; however, after acquiring the power of [[PowerOfTheVoid the Void]], his goal becomes the pursuit of [[OmnicidalManiac returning everything to nothing]].
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI Kefka]] broke a lot of ground for ''Final Fantasy'' baddies by not only being completely [[AxCrazy cuckoo-for-Chocobo-Puffs]], but also starting off fairly weak. Midway through the game, you actually fail to stop him from playing his trump card and he gains [[PhysicalGod godly power]] through manipulation.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Sephiroth]] was the most famous soldier of the Shinra PrivateMilitaryCompany, and used to be the hero to all, until he learned the truth about the circumstances of his birth. He's much more of a ColdHam than your traditional ''Final Fantasy'' villain. You also spend a lot of time [[UnwittingPawn doing things for him]].
*** In contrast to Sephiroth's refined, mysterious demeanor,[[VideoGame/CrisisCoreFinalFantasyVII Genesis Rapsados]] does not shut up, is just as animated as Kefka and enters open warfare with Shinra as soon as he gets the chance. He betrays Shinra because of how he was made, but instead of him assuming he wasn't human, it's because he is literally falling apart. [[spoiler:He's defeated by the man who inspired Cloud, but accepts his death instead of constantly coming back through the Lifestream to get vengeance. His resurrection at the end of ''DoC'' was done with science instead of magic, and due to the original Compilation being LeftHanging, it's hard to know how much he ''wanted'' to come back.]]
*** [[VideoGame/DirgeofCerberusFinalFantasyVII Weiss the Immaculate]] is back to being a ColdHam, but unlike the other two he never defects from Shinra and keeps Deepground on it's original purpose long after its parent company is gone. [[spoiler:While Hojo and his SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute Hollander serve the previous villains, Weiss is in turn controlled by Hojo.]]
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII Ultimecia]] is a sorceress from the future who uses the present sorceresses as proxies. Her use of Seifer also foils Squall's relationship with Rinoa.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX Kuja]] is a theatrical, misanthropic [[spoiler:artificially made]] young [[DudeLooksLikeALady man]] who goes mad when he finds out his true identity.
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX'' has a lot of villains, but the biggest foil is Jecht, JerkJock supreme who followed a path similar to [[ArchnemesisDad his son's own]] and [[TheAtoner now regrets what he does]]. Seymour was driven insane by a combination of parental abandonment and an addiction to magical powers.
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX2'' has Shuyin, a vengeful warrior who is already dead and decides to [[OmnicidalManiac destroy all of Spira]] to enact his revenge.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXII Vayne]], like Kefka, isn't some great evil supernatural force, but a normal man. But unlike Kefka, he isn't completely insane. Instead, he is a brilliant politician and military tactician who decides to win the long war between two powerful empires by seizing control of the world's most important natural resource. He is calm, collected, and unlike most ''Final Fantasy'' villains, he comes the closest to [[NearVillainVictory winning in the end]] and in some ways, [[XanatosGambit does get what he wants.]] Also unlike many ''Final Fantasy'' Villains, he isn't [[ManBehindTheMan shown very often in game]], but his decisions are immediately felt worldwide.
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII'' by contrast has Barthandelus, who is effectively one of the manipulating gods that Vayne would have opposed, and who seeks the destruction of those he is charged with protecting. And while his plan does eventually work, it doesn't occur the way he wanted and takes far longer to come to pass (around another 1000 years).
** Caius Ballad from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII2'' rounds back around to being a man, albeit an enormously powerful one. In comparison to Barthandelus, who was a WellIntentionedExtremist based on the world, Caius only cares about one person, Yuel, and is willing to [[TimeCrash destroy time]] to preserve her. And while, like Barthandelus, he gets what he wants...it's not in the manner that he hoped for.
** The divinity phase is switched once again for the finale of the ''XIII'' trilogy, ''VideoGame/LightningReturnsFinalFantasyXIII'' with [[spoiler:Bhunivelze, who is presented as the BigGood initially and genuinely wishes to save everyone. Until it's revealed that while he does intend to do so, he also intends to filter humanity into soulless puppets, while Caius wanted to preserve Yuel]].
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV'', being an MMORPG, features a succession of antagonists over the course of its run.
*** In the original "Legacy" game, the BigBad was Legatus Nael van Darnus[[note]]actually his sister Eula wearing his armor, the real Nael having been long dead[[/note]] of the Garlean Empire. Believing that the threat of [[PhysicalGod Primal]] summonings in Eorzea was too great, and being corrupted by the presence hidden inside the moon of Dalamud, the Legatus enacted "Project Meteor" to bring the moon crashing down on the Eorzean nations.
*** In "A Realm Reborn", the reins were taken by Legatus Gaius van Baelsar who subscribed much more to a sort of PragmaticVillainy. Believing in conquest over destruction, Gaius sought to establish dominance and combat the Primal threat by piloting the [[LostSuperweapon Ultima Weapon]]. However, he ended up being an {{unwitting pawn}} of the Ascian Lahabrea, who caused the Ultima Weapon to blow up Gaius's own base before Gaius was defeated by the Warrior of Light.
*** The "Heavensward" expansion has a BigBadDuumvirate due to the ForeverWar between the Ishgardians and the dragons. The bulk of the story arc leads to a confrontation with Ishgard's ruler, Archbishop Thordan VII, who actually hijacks ''Lahabrea'' and devours the Ascian's energy in order to turn himself and his most loyal knights into Primals. The following updates, though, focus on the dragon Niddhog as the primary threat to peace. Having long ago lost himself to an all-consuming rage and lust for revenge against Ishgard, Niddhog is more of a force of pure malice than anything else.
*** In "Stormblood", the antagonist is Zenos yae Galvus, crown prince of the Garlean Empire. Unlike the previous foes, Zenos is a pure Blood Knight who doesn't actually care about anything other than finding an opponent to fight who will actually pose a challenge. He eventually decides that the Warrior of Light is both his greatest enemy and only "friend".
*** "Shadowbringers" has Emet-Selch, a.k.a. Solus zos Galvus[[note]]founder of the Garlean Empire[[/note]], a.k.a. Hades. One of the most powerful and manipulative of Ascians, Emet-Selch is the architect of incalculable suffering throughout the ages, yet presents himself as an AffablyEvil {{friendly enemy}} for most of the story arc. When you get toward the end of the expansion, however, you find out that [[spoiler:he views the world as "broken" by the BigGood, and every calamity he and his brethren have brought about has been for the purposes of rejoining the shard worlds with the source so that the utopian home he remembers from ages past can be rebuilt]].
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV'' features [[spoiler:Ardyn]]. In contrast to the previous villains, who either didn't have personal relationships with the heroes or did, [[spoiler:Ardyn]] wants to kill Noctis from the get-go; in comparison to Sephiroth and Cloud, who had developed enmity in their backstory; Noctis barely even knew who [[spoiler:Ardyn]] was initially. Rather than be embraced in a way by the gods like the fal'Cie and Bhunivelze would do with the heroes of the ''XIII'' trilogy, [[spoiler:Ardyn]] was spurned and shunned by them, and while they ultimately intended to save existence to a degree, [[spoiler:Ardyn]] makes no such claims; he only wants Noctis to survive so that he can kill him at his strongest, the world be damned. Finally, unlike most humanoid villains, he doesn't have an OneWingedAngel form and is fought specifically as a DuelBoss. [[spoiler:And on top of all that, he has ''his own personal Astral Ifrit'', which he summons against a party that ''cannot'' control the appearance of their own Astrals.]] Finally, for the very first time in the franchise's nearly half-century of history, the story's main villain [[spoiler:gets exactly what he wanted in exactly the way he wanted it - a fight with the fully-empowered Noctis, the devastation of the world, and end of the Lucian bloodline as Noctis dies with no heirs.]]
** The main antagonist of ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXVI'', [[spoiler:Ultima]], serves mostly as this to his predecessor, [[spoiler:Ardyn]]. [[spoiler:Ardyn]] was a human who once used his ability to absorb the Starscourge for good but was demonized for it and eventually became the enemy of the world at the behest of his world's [[spoiler:Bahamut]]. [[spoiler:Ultima]] is an alien being and the creator of the Eikons [[spoiler:who created humanity in order to stave off the decline of his own people thanks to the Blight, only to then plot against humanity so that they destroy each other and he goes in and terraforms whatever remains]]. Many of his motivations, as well as his contempt for humanity, are shared with the ''XV'' incarnation of [[spoiler:Bahamut]], who became the true main villain of the story in the ''Dawn of the Future'' novelization.

** The original ''VideoGame/FugaMelodiesOfSteel'' gives us Colonel General Shvein Hax, the man commanding the all-out invasion of Gasco on behalf of the Berman Army. Like Fool and Bruno, his ultimate goal is to [[spoiler:reawaken a LivingWeapon to wield its power for his own ends]], but that's where the similarities end. Unlike Fool, he has an entire army at his disposal as opposed to just the Black Cats Gang, and he's also not [[TheUnfought too lazy or cowardly to fight the heroes himself]], since he actively encourages the children to try and fight him once his plan is in motion. And unlike Bruno was seemingly motivated by nothing more than a desire to TakeOverTheWorld and [[ForTheEvulz attain power purely for the sake of it]], Hax is motivated by PatrioticFervor and doesn't even bother trying to be a VillainWithGoodPublicity since he truly believes what he's doing is righteous and is aided mostly by [[MyCountryRightOrWrong subordinates who feel the same]]. Another thing that separates him from Bruno is that [[he ''succeeds'' in gaining control of a Titano-Machina through using the Tarascus to reawaken and become one with the Vanargand, whereas Bruno failed to do so and seemingly had his life force consumed back into Lares]]. To a lesser degree, Hax is also the first villain to be a MirrorBoss, as [[spoiler:his Tarascus tank is functionally similar to the children's Taranis]].

* ''VideoGame/LiEat'':
** Each BigBad of ''[=LiEat=]'' is different from one to the other.
*** Rachel Rigfire is a vampire in Vermilion Town who is responsible for Carol's death at the start of the game, who is driven from her bloodlust and cares for her older brother Keith. Olivia Cameron is a snake lady who works in the casino in Azure Town, who is Lucas' abusive girlfriend. Rachel is a TragicVillain whose villainy is triggered by her vampiric nature where Keith protects her from being executed due to her nature. Olivia is a SmugSnake who is the complete opposite to Rachel in many ways, being an obsessive {{Yandere}} and a SoreLoser who refuses to accept losses and is ObviouslyEvil, going so far in using William to initiate a mass memory wipeout.
*** Unlike the previous antagonists Rachel and Olivia, the main antagonist of ''III'', Cyril "Butterfly Thief" Leonhart, is a human who is PhantomThief and a {{Bifauxnen}} who looks like a boy at first. She has similarities to Olivia, being charismatic, manipulative and charming; but while Olivia is a SmugSnake who cannot handle losses and resorts to abuse and cheating, Cyril is a PhantomThief who is extremely suave and skilled, who doesn't go into a breakdown when her plans are in danger. Both the previous antagonists were the NonActionBigBad of their games and had zero close relations to Teo, while Cyril is forefront to the action and has a very deeply personal connection to Teo.
** The other antagonists are also different in each game, despite being Lie-corrupted near the end of the game.
*** Keith Rigfire is the titular Vermilion Vampire, who is Rachel's 18-year-old older brother, has a calm and collected personality and will do anything extreme to protect her from execution from the town's townspeople. William is the titular Azure Dreameater, who is a 4-month-old dragon boy (appearing as 4 years old) serving as Sofia Juanele's servant, is extremely shy and naive, being an innocent boy who is unable to comprehend good and evil. Both were eventually corrupted by Lies from their actions, but while Keith constantly lies to the town's visitors about Rachel's actions, William instead lies about how everything is right that ultimately led him to have more self-doubts.
*** Unlike the previous antagonists, the titular Gold Thief is not the FinalBoss of the game that is fought by Efina. Instead it is [[spoiler:Theobald Leonhart, who becomes the BigBadFriend to Efina in ''III''. Unlike Keith and William who lie to hide their tragedy and their insecurities and don't have personal connections to the main character, Theo is a ConsummateLiar who lies a lot more convincingly and is an experienced young man, who has a lot more personal connections towards his disowned "family" and is the target of Cyril's enmity.]]

*** King Boo as well, being Luigi's ArchEnemy since ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion.'' Both a large {{Mook}} with a personal vendetta against the Mario bros. (Bowser as an oversized Koopa Troopa who hates Mario, King Boo as an oversized Boo who hates Luigi). In line with Bowser Jr., Bowser is more physically confrontational, whereas King Boo is much more methodical (given that Bowser outright kidnaps Peach, whereas King Boo uses trickery to lure Mario into a trap). Bowser is driven by his hatred for Mario, but also has other plans such as his love for Peach, and even galactic domination. King Boo on the other hand is mainly driven by his hatred for Luigi, and would go through great lengths (destroying the universe) to make sure Luigi loses. The differences also come with their treatments of their troops; Bowser actually cares for his minions (which is a big reason why they respect him). King Boo on the other hand has absolutely no care for them, even outright dismissing them as useless in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion3''.

While the 'raidon was a territorial animal lashing out on instinct and was a grave ecological threat to the entirety of the Paldea region, the "Loyal" Three are knowingly malicious, but are a bunch of petty thugs in scope of threat.]]

Alphabetizing. Also, I feel like the example can be better worded, but I don't have time now.

* The main villains of the of the ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles'' series contrast each other greatly:
** The [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 first game]] has Zanza, who was once a scientist in the old world who tried to create a universe, but became a PhysicalGod and created a new universe and created High Entia to eliminate all life on Bionis as Telethia and has manipulated events from behind the scenes using vessels to further his plans.
** The [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2 second game]] has Malos and Amalthus, the former is an Aegis, a blade with tremendous power and has the power wield darkness as that is his element, the latter lost his mother as a child and believes himself to be the Architects will to destroy Alrest and the one responsible for turning Malos into an OmnicidalManiac.
** The [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3 third game]] has [[spoiler: Z, who’s a living piece of malware and the embodiment of humanity’s desire for stagnation formed when the two worlds of Bionis and Alrest’s corrupted desires infected the Origin system and is present-focused to a fault, seeking to preserve the "endless now" by any means necessary.]]

[[folder:Killzone]]
* The main ''VideoGame/{{Killzone}}'' series:
** Mael Radec from ''Killzone 2'' heavily contrasts to Stuart Adams, one of the villains in ''Killzone''. Both have similar views towards Scolar Visari and are also the enemies of the protagonists, but their goals and intentions are different. Adams is an ISA [[TheMole traitor]] who sees Visari as an inspiration to betray his own allies and is responsible for shutting down the Orbital Defenses with Dwight Stratson, allowing the Helghast Army to launch an attack. Radec is a born Helghast, who is TheDragon to Visari, serving as his personal second-in-command and is a [[ItsPersonal more personal antagonist]] to Rico, being the known killer of Jan Templar. Adams is the General of the ISA, while Radec is the Colonel of the Helghast Military. Adams rarely uses combat but his gun against the protagonists, while Radec is a full-blown CombatPragmatist and ColonelBadass, who is adept in firearms, knives and actual close-quarters combat. Adams is a SmugSnake who openly gloated into siding with the Helghast, revealing to be a DirtyCoward at the end as he went through a massive VillainousBreakdown after he failed to kill Templar, before dying from a very unceremonious death at the hands of Templar. Radec is a combat-hardened, honourable Helghast who never backs away on combat, successfully [[HeroKiller killing Templar single-handedly]] before squaring off against Rico in a one-on-one fight inside the Visari Palace, before Radec killed himself at the end after his defeat as a sign of honour. They are also killed by the different main protagonists, with Adams from Templar and Radec from Rico.
** Jorhan Stahl from ''Killzone 3'' and ''Shadow Fall'' serves as this to Scolar Visari, the main antagonist of ''Killzone'' and ''Killzone 2''. Both are rivalling {{Arms Dealer}}s and the CEO of their respective weapon comapanies: Stahl Arms and Visari Corporation, as well as the Autarch of Helghan. Whereas Visari was the first Autarch and the founder of Helghan, who was elected fairly by the majority, Stahl became the last Autarch [[TheUsurper through usurpation]] by killing Orlock and caused Helghan's end via the Terracide. Visari's weapons in his company are all high-tech and futuristic in nature, whereas Stahl's weapons from his company focuses on high fire rate that is reminiscent to 21st-Century weapons. Visari is commanding but also formal and loyal to his men and his cause during the Helghast-Vektan War, while Stahl is arrogant and abrasive who freely throws [[ClusterFBomb curse words all the time]], as well as an OmnicidalManiac, caring little for the Helghast and his own unit of soldiers from his company in an attempt to destroy not only the Vektans but also Earth in a nihilistic act of revenge. Visari is shown to have some form of care to the Helghasts, his own people, albeit in a twisted cause to fight their own war against the Vektans. Stahl is a BoomerangBigot, noting his hatred for the Vektans, but he is also an overt racist against his own race, claiming that the billion people (Helghasts) who died during the Terracide in his home planet are considered weak. While Visari was killed by the main protagonist Rico in ''Killzone 2'', Stahl was killed by Sinclair, one of the main antagonists of ''Shadow Fall''.
** Thomas Sinclair, [[BigBadEnsemble one of the main antagonists in Shadow Fall]], is this to Alex Grey, one of the main antagonists in ''Mercenary''. Both serve as part of the BigBadEnsemble, are [[FantasticRacism racists towards Helghast]] and are high-ranking officials of the ISA, but Grey was the Admiral of the ISA Navy, while Sinclair served as the Director of the Shadow Marshals and now the director of the Vektan Security Agency, the espionage arm of the ISA. While both are born as Vektans, Grey is a Caucasian, pale-skinned, 46-year-old woman, while Sinclair is a dark-skinned, 51-year-old man. Both share the same racist ideology towards the Helghast and [[OmnicidalManiac are willing to exterminate the other race]] but for different reasons. Grey is a WellIntentionedExtremist wanting to use Kratek's bioweapon to ensure peace to Vekta at the cost of the innocents on the other side. Sinclair is Grey's polar opposite, who is a NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist and a GeneralRipper, willing to kill the remaining living Helghast on the other side of the Wall out of his paranoid racist views towards them, regardless of the ensuing collateral damage to the Vektans. Both act as former allies to the main protagonists. Grey is only an ally to the protagonist, Arran Danner, with no relation to him, whereas Sinclair also served as a mentor and a father figure to Lucas Kellan [[spoiler:before killing him at the end]]. While Grey failed to kill Danner, Sinclair is a HeroKiller [[spoiler:who murdered Kellan for attempting to stop the reignition of the Helghast-Vektan War and for siding with Echo]].
** Vladko Tyran from ''Killzone: Shadow Fall'' is this to Vyktor Kratek from ''Killzone: Mercenary''. Both are Helghast zealots who have an equal, seething hatred towards the Vektans, are AxCrazy and are also {{The Dragon}}s to the BigBad. Kratek is a sadistic Colonel of the Helghast Military who is the subordinate of Metrac[[note]]During ''Liberation'', although he becomes the DragonTheirFeet and the BigBad in ''Mercenary''[[/note]] during the invasion of Diortem, as well as a MadDoctor who intents to use his bioweapon and kidnap Justus, the proverbial plasmid trigger, to wipe out the Vektans in an act of genocide. Tyran is the second-in-command to [[spoiler:Stahl]], where he is a zealot BloodKnight and the leader of the Black Hand, who is more so intent on causing chaos and destruction in Vekta than outright genocide, heavily contrasting to Kratek's goals, in an attempt to restart the war between the Helghast and Vektans. Kratek is a 40-year-old man dressed prim and proper with a gas mask on his head, as well as a cape. Tyran is a unkempt 30-year-old man, dressed in the standard Black Hand insurgent gear including a grey robe and infiltrator projectors, as well as having an unknown piece of plastic material that serves as his "cape".
* Spin-off series:
** The Phantom Talon Corp. in ''Killzone: Mercenary'' are this to the Helghast Military in the previous ''Killzone'' games. The Helghast Military is the military branch of the Helghast Empire, who oftentimes incite wars against the Vektans in the name of the Helghast banner for their own cause. The Phantom Talon Corp. is a mercenary organisation, with its members being seasoned mercenaries hailing from former military organisations, and have no actual allegiance to both sides of the war. Whereas the Helghast Military fight their wars for the cause of the Helghan and Visari, the Phantom Talon Corp's members are a WildCard and are politically apathetic to the conflict, fighting on whatever side they are in and only care more for the money and paycheck than anything else. Their commanders, Anders Benoit and Armin Metrac, one of the Helghast commanders and the General of the Helghast Military, also embody this contrast. General Metrac is the General of the Helghast Military during the invasion of southern Vekta, whereas Benoit is the commander of the Phantom Talon Corp. hailing from Earth. General Metrac is a ruthless [[TheSociopath sociopath]] who is openly sadistic and brutal, causing carnage for the fun of it, especially towards the ISA, in his twisted Helghast morals. Benoit is a ruthless, greedy schemer, serving as a WildCard where he has no affiliation to both sides (Helghast or ISA) and is a high-ranking money-driven mercenary commander, only using the war for monetary gains and purposes regardless of casualties, while "allying" with them to get what he wants in the intent of [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder backstabbing]] them at the end. Both of them have different plans: Metrac planned to murder the rest of the Vektans and conquer the south of Vekta, including Diortem, while Benoit actively wants to kick the Helghast out of Diortem, before soon betraying Danner during the attack on the refinery and initiate his own plan of finding the bioweapon and the trigger Justus, so that he can sell both to the black market. Benoit's also a boss in ''Mercenary'' and is comparably closely similar to Metrac, being adept in combat and also lead a group of men on their side. Metrac is the ClimaxBoss of ''Liberation'', while Benoit is the FinalBoss of ''Mercenary''. Both use [[{{BFG}} heavy weaponry]] and are long-range attackers who attack from a distance, as Metrac uses a Frankenstein heavy machine gun/grenade launcher, whereas Benoit uses a [=VC39=] Accelerator Rifle as his signature primary weapon, as well as an energy shield in ground combat.
** Alex Grey from ''Killzone: Mercenary'' serves as a contrast to Dwight Stratson from ''Killzone: Liberation''. Both serve as high-ranking officials of the ISA and are both extremists for different reasons. Stratson was an ISA General who led his unit in Southern Vekta before revealing to be a traitor to the Helghast, claiming that [[AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs by allowing the Helghast fleet to attack ISA and Vektans within Vekta]] (whom he proudly calls them as "soft and weak" [[BoomerangBigot despite being one]]), where he is also openly {{Turncoat}}ing to the Helghast by taking Metrac's position as the leader of his forces after his death, [[GeneralRipper before proceeding to murdering the rest of ISA generals and attempt to defeat Templar for one last time]]. Grey is the Admiral of the ISA Navy who led her unit to halt the Helghast invasion of Diortem and is the opposite to Stratson's GeneralRipper personality, and she is more openly willing to commit morally ambiguous actions to win the war against the Helghast, including her attempt to commit mass-genocide with a bioweapon as well as kidnapping a child for the virus' trigger to wipe out the other race completely, [[WellIntentionedExtremist all for her goal of ensuring peace on the Vektans]]. While Stratson actively helps the Helghast to successfully win their brutal cause, Grey is openly enemies with the Helghast and hires the Phantom Talon Corp., a mercenary organisation, for extra firepower, in order to win the tide of the war to the Vektans against them.

[[folder:Horizon]]
Every villain seen in the ''Horizon'' franchise all differ from one to another from last games.
* ''[[VideoGame/HorizonZeroDawn Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds]]''
** HEPHAESTUS is this to HADES. While both are AIs, their functionalities completely differ, as in line with their creation as parts of GAIA. With HADES, who wants to reset biosphere without GAIA and even attempted another FARO Plague, HEPHAESTUS actively arms the machines in the Cut and turned them into the much deadlier Daemonic versions of themselves, making them even more formidable than their originals. HEPHAESTUS is also distinct to HADES, as its physical presence is mostly invisible, appearing to be remote-accessing the Machine Cauldrons around the globe, rather than with HADES whose red tendrils can be clearly seen on a Horus' Quantum Processing module. HADES also has a limited level of human-machine sentience, whereas HEPHAESTUS' sentience is limited to a sequence of tasks (no longer true after HEPH's takeover of CYAN, which gave him human speech and sentience). HEPHAESTUS is also not worshipped by a major cult or a tribe, unlike HADES who was worshipped as the "Buried Shadow" by the Eclipse and the Shadow Carja.
* ''VideoGame/HorizonCallOfTheMountain''
** [[spoiler:Asera]], the BigBad of ''Call of the Mountain'' and a minor antagonist in ''Forbidden West'', is a contrast to Dervahl. Amongst the highly patriarchal Oseram, she is the only one who is a female and TheLeader of what will later be known as the Sons of Prometheus. While Dervahl plans to destroy Meridian and kill Avad through blaze bombs, she is a known GadgeteerGenius who utilises machine overrides without the need of entering Cauldrons, even before Sylens introduces her to them, in her (failed) retaliatory attack to the Carja capital through an army of machines.
* ''VideoGame/HorizonForbiddenWest''
** Far Zenith. Unlike HADES, an AI with control over people whose intention is based on just following its programming, they are flesh and blood humans with control over machines and fully conscious of their actions, with long-term plans in play. They are also a contrast to the Eclipse, the main antagonistic faction of ''Zero Dawn''. Whereas the Eclipse's weaponry are both ancient and rudimentary in nature, as well as using long-buried ancient FARO machines as their muscle, the Zeniths are equipped with state-of-the-art futuristic weaponry like energy cannons and shields and they use the more advanced Specters as their go-to machines.
** Gerard Bieri contrasts this to Bahavas, one of the ''de facto'' leaders of the Shadow Carja tribe. Both are HateSink SocialDarwinists with little regard for humanity, seeing anything they oppose as weak, as well as saving their own skin. While Bahavas seems to be interested in weeding out the sick and old for the Shadow Carja's elite, even holding Itamen and Nasadi hostage, Gerard has an extreme disdain for new humanity, regardless of their status and social standing, often seeing them as "insects" and "bugs" and is actively open in exterminating them, exemplified when he and his Zeniths massacred a group of tribals mercilessly from an unknown tribe, as well as ordering Erik to kill Aloy's companion [[spoiler:Varl]]. With Bahavas, despite his despicable nature, even fanatically worshipped by a group of like-minded Shadow Carja elite and his co-High Priests, Gerard is virtually respected by ''absolutely no one'', even by his AxCrazy right-hand Erik.
** Tilda van der Meer is a more unique contrast to the ''Zero Dawn'' villains. Where most of the prequel's villains were some variation of "ignorant, politically conservative male", Tilda is the opposite of all these things. She upholds more liberal values, [[LGBTRepresentationInMedia including being a lesbian]] due to her past relationship with [[spoiler:Elisabet Sobeck]]. While Helis, one of the villains that contrasts her, is deeply loyal to Jiran, albeit on the levels of fanaticism, Tilda is portrayed as a defector [[spoiler:who hatches a plan to backstab them, betray Gerard, its current leader, and the rest of its members, so that she would intend to use Aloy for the same goal as the Zeniths: leave Earth to Nemesis. Helis serves as ''Zero Dawn's'' ClimaxBoss before HADES, but Tilda serves as the FinalBoss after Erik, ''Forbidden West's'' ClimaxBoss.]] Both Helis and Tilda have some connections to Aloy, but on a differing scale. Helis serves as Aloy's ArchNemesis and the main killer of Rost, who knows her because of her thwarting many of the Eclipse's machine-digging operations. Tilda knows Aloy due to being the genetic clone of Elisabet Sobeck, a "superior" version of her former love, where she is less being Aloy's nemesis but her refusal of her questionable offer ultimately made her the personal threat to Aloy at the end.
** Erik Visser, Gerard's right-hand, is this to Helis, the right-hand of HADES. Both are [[AxCrazy vicious]] military commanders of their respective organisation, with Helis to the Eclipse and Erik to the Zeniths. Helis is a PsychoSupporter to Jiran during the Red Raids, who willingly carried out atrocities in the name of his devotion to the Mad Sun-King, but he has some tiny semblance of standards. Erik is a pure-and-simple BloodKnight and a textbook PsychoForHire who takes pleasure in fighting and mass-murdering innocents often with sadism and glee, regardless of who he faces for his entertainment, while showing no remorse for his kills. Their weapons also vastly contrast to one another. With Helis, he uses a sword and a blast sling, while Erik uses advanced weapons including a nanomachine-infused golden blade and a golden hand cannon, as well as him being capable of dishing out various attacks.
** Regalla is a contrast to Dervahl. Both have the same hatred over Jiran's Red Raids, but their motivations and the causes of their villainy are a contrast. Dervahl's {{Revenge}} motivation solely started due to the deaths of his daughter and his wife from the Sun-Ring. Regalla's vengeance was catalysed by the deaths of her younger brothers after [[KillItWithFire they were burnt alive by Jiran]]. Dervahl, while a GadgeteerGenius who uses technologies he invented like the Sonic Device, as well as machine lures, in order to gain advantage against his opponents, is a warrior with combat experience, but he has limited understanding of ancient technology. Regalla is a battle-hardened warrior with years of ''actual'' combat and battle experience in line with her Tenakth heritage, but also having some understanding of ancient technology [[spoiler:thanks to Sylens]]. Both also wanted to kill Avad and commit genocide against the Carja, albeit for different reasons. Dervahl wants to bomb Meridian with piles of Blaze bombs stored inside a warehouse, to turn the capital ablaze and kill Avad. Regalla [[spoiler:and Asera]] strikes a deal with [[spoiler:Sylens]], plans an invasion to the Memorial Grove to usurp Hekarro and subsequently use her army of rebels and overridden machines to invade Meridian [[spoiler:unaware that she was being used by Sylens as fodders for the attack of the Zenith base.]] While Dervahl remained unrepentant after being defeated by Aloy, complete with gloating, Regalla's defeat was portrayed in a more sympathetic light as her death scene at the end with the Tenakth honouring including Hekarro showed that they honoured her despite the atrocious acts she committed.

** Walter Londra, the DLC's BigBad. Despite being a member of Far Zenith (themselves a contrast to HADES, the Eclipse and the machines from the first game), he’s visually distinct compared to Erik, Gerard, and Tilda, looking more aged and "natural" compared to their uncanny agelessness. While his plot also involves getting offworld before NEMESIS arrives, he also takes the opportunity to exploit the Quen’s worship of the Old Ones to set himself up as a cult leader. And in contrast to the other Zeniths, he's willing to take some of the locals with him. He "auditions" his followers to select those with personalities like those of his old inner circle, including his lost love, and then plans to escape the coming apocalypse on a new planet with his new retinue, ruling as a god over an utterly compliant population comprised of clones of his other followers. While he is also a FinalBoss, he uses an ancient Horus during his boss battle, in contrast to Tilda who used an appropriarely futuristic Specter Prime exoframe in her own boss battle.
** The Quen Devotees, Londra's cult, also serve as a contrast to ''Zero Dawn's'' Eclipse. While both cultist organisations worship a specific "deity", with the Eclipse and the Shadow Carja worshipping the rogue AI HADES as the "Buried Shadow", the Devotees worship Londra, a "God" who is a human in flesh and blood. The Eclipse members are seen as AlwaysChaoticEvil, whereas the Devotees, especially the ones given the faulty MSP treatment by Londra, are seen as BrainwashedAndCrazy, and with the ones who were subjected to the improved treatment are submissive and compliant.

[[TheDragon The respective Dragon]] of Ghadius and Leorina, Joka and Tat, would also contrast with one another.
** Ghadius and Leorina both have an intimidating presence, dark clothing, and deep voices. Ghadius is the BigBad of his game, and he is known to be the BigBad from the moment we see him. Leorina initially seems like the BigBad of Lunatea's Veil but turns out to be a DiscOneFinalBoss. Ghadius stays evil to the end and dies laughing as his plan to summon Nahatomb succeeds, while Leorina makes a HeelFaceTurn after Klonoa saves her from being cursed.
** Ghadius and the [[spoiler:King of Sorrow]] represent a negative aspect of their world that was rejected by the inhabitants (Nightmares and Sorrow respectively) and seek the world's destruction because of that, but that's where the similarities end.

** Joka and Tat are cheerful, comical sidekicks to a dark and intimidating antagonist. Both resemble a clownlike cat, although Joka's design leans more towards "clown," while Tat's leans more towards "cat." Tat has a flirtatious {{Tsundere}} attitude towards Klonoa, while Joka is FauxAffablyEvil with no such feelings. Both have a moment early in the game where they get on top of a high ledge and wait to see if Klonoa can make it up there. Joka mocks Klonoa, only to [[OhCrap panic]] when Klonoa actually succeeds. Tat gives Klonoa a tip on how to get up to the ledge because [[{{Tsundere}} she likes him a little]]. Tat gives Klonoa a hint on how to get up to the ledge out of kindness, while Joka accidentally gives Klonoa hints on how to beat his monsters out of sheer stupidity. Tat makes a HeelFaceTurn and lives to the end along with Leorina, while Joka stays evil to the end and dies just like Ghadius. In fact, the connection between Tat and Joka is highlighted in ''Phantasy Reverie Series'', where the DLC allows Klonoa to wear a Joka mask in the first game, and a Tat mask in the second game.

* Mael Radec from ''Killzone 2'' heavily contrasts to Stuart Adams, one of the villains in ''VideoGame/{{Killzone}}''.
* The Phantom Talon Corp. in ''Killzone: Mercenary'' are this to the Helghast Military in the previous ''Killzone'' games.
* Alex Grey from ''Killzone: Mercenary'' serves as a contrast to Dwight Stratson from ''Killzone: Liberation''.
* Jorhan Stahl from ''Killzone 3'' and ''Shadow Fall'' serves as this to Scolar Visari, the main antagonist of ''Killzone'' and ''Killzone 2''.

Both are high-ranking officials of the ISA, but Grey was the Admiral of the ISA Navy, while Sinclair served as the Director of the Shadow Marshals and now the director of the Vektan Security Agency, the espionage arm of the ISA. While both are born as Vektans, Grey is a Caucasian, pale-skinned, 46-year-old woman, while Sinclair is a dark-skinned, 51-year-old man. Both share the same FantasticRacism ideology towards the Helghast and [[OmnicidalManiac are willing to exterminate the other race]] but for different reasons.

* Jorhan Stahl from ''Killzone 3'' and ''Shadow Fall'' serves as this to Scolar Visari, the main antagonist of ''Killzone'' and ''Killzone 2''.
* Thomas Sinclair, [[BigBadEnsemble one of the main antagonists in Shadow Fall]], is this to Alex Grey, one of the main antagonists in ''Mercenary''.
* Vladko Tyran from ''Killzone: Shadow Fall'' is this to Vyktor Kratek from ''Killzone: Mercenary''. Both are Helghast zealots who have an equal, seething hatred towards the Vektans, are AxCrazy and are also {{The Dragon}}s to the BigBad. Kratek is a sadistic Colonel of the Helghast Military who is the subordinate of Metrac during the invasion of Diortem, as well as a MadDoctor who intents to use his bioweapon and kidnap Justus, the proverbial plasmid trigger, to wipe out the Vektans in an act of genocide.

* The Phantom Talon Corp. in ''Killzone: Mercenary'' are this to the Helghast Military in the previous ''Killzone'' games.
