[[spoiler: During the climax, Dib repairs Zim's, and uses it to weaken and drive back [[EldritchAbomination the Thing]].]]

* ''Fanfic/TheWritingOnTheWall'' has both the eponymous writing as well as the sick workers.
* ''Fanfic/ACrownOfStars'': In one of the first chapters Shinji and Rayana retrieved Yui's soul from Unit 01 and they left the giant robot parked in a specific spot until they figured out what doing with it. At the same time Asuka got a new shiny mecha capable to interplanetary travel. In chapter 48 [[spoiler:Shinji and Asuka's army needed a power supply and Shinji thought of Unit 01's S2 core… that they could retrieve using Asuka's [[AMechByAnyOtherName Red Whirlwind]].]]

** On a lighter note, Odin's phoenix feather, which alludes to Harry's connection to the Phoenix, pops up again in chapter 79, when Odin has it covered in gold and gives it to Harry, who wears it constantly afterwards.
*** In ''Ghosts of the Past'', it gains a more serious significance when [[spoiler: Maddie/Rachel]] feels an affinity to it and pinches it, whereupon it starts heating up. She later uses it [[spoiler: to hide and protect Harry's mind]] and it's revealed to have originally been [[spoiler: Laevateinn, the wand of Prospero Slytherin.]]

** Harry's letter from the future has a few, though mostly of lighter things - [[spoiler: Pepper's pregnancy]], for instance - and is quite vague since it's designed to avoid a paradox. However, Fury manages to deduce the existence of [[spoiler: Maddie Pryor/Rachel Grey]] from it, with the resultant OhCrap reaction.

* ''Fanfic/NewTamaran'': The morning after Robin proposes, Starfire accidentally reveals she's been given a Violet Lantern ring, but hasn't put it on due to fears that being a Lantern will take her away from her friends. [[spoiler:Guess what she uses to defeat her Red Lantern sister.]]

* ''Manga/Evangelion303'': [[http://eva303.smackjeeves.com/comics/1743748/035/ In the page 35 of chapter 11 Shinji mentions to Asuka that they had not celebrated her birthday yet and he would like to throw her a party]]. Then they fight and the birthday issue becomes forgotten... [[http://eva303.smackjeeves.com/comics/1795210/046/ until the page 46 of chapter 12]] -almost two-hundred pages later and published three months later- when Shinji reveals that he had actually bought her a birthday gift [[spoiler:-an engagement ring-]] (and suddenly you realize that he was thinking about moving towards the future right before bringing the birthday matter up).

* ''Fanfic/OnceMoreWithFeeling'': Shinji returns to the past carrying Misato's cross pendant with him. He briefly considers throwing it away to avoid awkward questions but he decides to hide it in a safe place. Many chapters later [[spoiler:he reveals Kaji where he hid Misato's pendant. Kaji gets the trinket analyzed and it proves conclusively that Shinji is indeed a time-traveller.]]

* ''Fanfic/WhatAboutWitchQueen'' has at least three:
** A stick from a broom that Ferdinand gives to Anna for self defense. [[spoiler:Anna manages to smuggle it into Westerguard keep and it's possible that she'll end up using it to escape.]]
** Tampani Trail is Chekhov's Place. We see it first as Berg's army uses it to attack Weselton. [[spoiler:Then Weseltonians use it to attack Arendelle.]]
** Author outright stated that [[CoolShip pendulum ship]] that tried to escape ship sequester is Chekhov's Ship, although we still have to wait for it to fire.
* Hago's staff in ''Fanfic/TheLionKingAdventures''. [[spoiler: It takes five series for Simba to use it in order to destroy the force field around the Pride Lands in ''The Final Task''. Then it is destroyed for ever.]]
* In ''Fanfic/{{Blind}}'' the Kyuubi negotiates a deal with Naruto about what he can and can't do when Naruto allows him take over of his body during the month long wait for the 3rd part of the exam before they discuss Naruto's training . This later comes in handy during the fight with Gaara and various other points in the story.

Towards the climax [[spoiler:Wheatley's overweight frame ends up being what causes [=GLaDOS=] to be defeated since it causes him to be stuck in an exaust pipe blowing up a good portion of the laboratory and tearing her apart.]]

* In ''FanFic/TheImmortalGame'', it's repeatedly mentioned that the easiest way to defeat a [[MasterSwordsman bladecaster]] is to [[BreakThemByTalking break their faith]] in what they're fighting for, which makes them lose control of their blade. We see an example of this about two-thirds of the way through the story, when Sir Unimpressive defeats [[MookLieutenant the Cadet]], but in truth, this was setting up for how [[spoiler: Twilight defeats [[BigBad Titan]] during the FinalBattle]].

* In the Gregg Landsman fanfic ''FanFic/GloriousShotgunPrincess'' , it is used as early as chapter 4, when Kasumi Goto steals a Honey Badger from the San Diego Zoo, names it Checkov, as a direct invoking of the trope. In Chapter eleven, the honey badger turns back up as the final bit to Hock's HumiliationConga
* ''FanFic/YouGotHaruhiRolled'' manages to turn ''the announcement of a new fanfic'' into one. In Chapter 56, Haruhi complains to the writer, superstarultra, about a fic he wrote in which she and all her friends are in FatCamp. Then Chapter 81 rolls around, where the version of Haruhi from that fic appears through a dimensional portal and devours an animate cheesecake that was wreaking havoc.

* In the ''FanFic/{{Horseshoes and Hand Grenades}}'' story ''Month of Sundays'', Santa-chan hands Akiko a camera. [[spoiler: Later on, she and Ryu find a picture of Shotaro in his office reading a specific book, and finding said book reveals a Skull Gaia Memory and letter for Akiko to become a Kamen Rider should Shotaro or Philip (or both) were unable to help.]]

* [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic MLP]] fic ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7721358/1/A-New-Hero A New Hero]]'': Over the course of the first season, main character Alex gets gifts from each of the Mane Six. After Discord {{Mind Rape}}s him into such a bitter, insular person that not even Twilight's memory spell can snap him out of it, he sees those gifts, which remind him of his friendship with the others, restoring him to normal.

* ''FanFic/MegaManRecut'' has the password Protoman gives Mega Man in "Future Shock".

* ''FanFic/MegaManDefenderOfTheHumanRace'' has many examples, but a specific kind of head pain is a recurring one, happening to [=ProtoMan=] upon activation, Mega Man due to the scrambler chip, and Nomad upon activation.

* Cloud's ribbon in ''FanFic/TheFifthAct'' [[NoSell which grants immunity to status effects]] and since it's so rare the rest of the cast is confounded to how he's immune to them. Then Cloud gives it to Kunsel when they're both captured by Hojo to help Kunsel escape. [[spoiler: When Cloud gets possessed by Jenova, the lost of his ribbon loses him his AdvantageBall and [[ChekhovsGunman Genesis]] is able to stop him.]]

* ''Fanfic/{{Anthropology}}'': [[spoiler: Before being send back to the human world]] [[MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Lyra]] is given a necklace in the shape of her cutie mark by Princess Celestia. [[spoiler: After Discord turns Lyra back into a pony, her magic activates an enchantment on the necklace that returns Lyra to Equestria, to she can bring the Elements of Harmony to Earth and stop Discord's reign of destruction.]]

* [[FanFic/TripTychContinuum Triptych]] opens with Discord granting Fluttershy the ability to permanently remove one thing. She hasn't used the ability yet, [[spoiler:but it's been implied she's considered using it on the mysterious pony that painfully transitions between the three tribes...]]
* In the first story for the WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck fanfiction series ''FanFic/NegaverseChronicles'', ''Nightfall in the Negaverse,'' Quackerjack uses a [[ElectricJoybuzzer joybuzzer]] against Whiffle Boy at the toy museum opening. Then he tried using it against [[ShockAndAwe Megavolt]] when he first joined the team, but it didn't work very well (for obvious reasons). [[spoiler:He later uses the joybuzzer to save Megavolt]] in the second story, ''Three Years''.

* In ''FanFic/AnUncommonWitness'', MafiaPrincess Rue Corvo takes a liking on NaiveEverygirl Duck Stannus and in one occasion, she gives her a napkin with the phone numbers of her house, her father's house and her agent. [[spoiler:Turns out that those numbers help Duck to contact Rue in order to beg her for Fakir's location after some of Domenico's men abducted him and Autor.]]

* ''FanFic/ZeldasHonor'': There are dozens of hints, foreshadowing and plot devices introduced in the first and second Acts that don't come into play until much later in the story during Act 3.

What seems to be a MythologyGag turns out to be a subconscious recollection of the ring's previous user: Alan Scott of the Justice Society of Britannia.

** In “The Autobiography,” a half-open bottle of soda sits next to Penny’s computer. Mittens manages to accidentally dump its contents into the machine near the end of the story, ruining the computer.

** In Episode 10, Tenn's first appearance has her avoiding an alien predator called a Scuttling Flesh-Render, and also makes mention of the fact that she's keeping the rampaging SIR Units which destroyed her base locked up in a container. During the chapter's climax, she uses both to attack the Meekrob who are chasing her, giving her time to escape.
** In Episode 8, Norlock gives Gaz [[MyCard his card]] in case she ever wants future advice or mentoring. In Episode 19, she finally uses it to call him [[spoiler: in order to betray Dib by giving Zim the location of [[LostSuperweapon Project Domination]]]].
** The DreamWalker spell which Dib experiments with in Episode 9 comes back in an important way in Episode 21, [[spoiler: Dib using it to get into the [[LotusEaterMachine dream illusions]] the twins are trapped in and free them]].

* ''Fanfic/{{Empathy}}'' turns [[Disney/BigHero6 Baymax's]] defibrillator hands into this, as he actually puts them to use during the climax to end his fight with [[spoiler: [[Disney/{{Home}} the Gorg]]]], shocking his opponent into submission.

** In the second chapter, Prince Jewelius shows Twilight Sparkle from a spell book an exhausting spell that can be used to shrink multiple beings at once. During the Changeling invasion, he reminds her of the spell and reveals a glass jar, prompting her to use the spell, turning all the Changelings tiny enough to trap them inside the jar. She [[PowerStrainBlackout becomes very tired and falls unconscious]] as [[ManipulativeBastard Jewelius]] usurps the throne by turning everypony against all the other heroes.

* In chapter 2 of ''Fanfic/{{Wonderful}}'', [[TheHero Taylor]] briefly mentiones that she invented a gadget called "Wonder-Mop". Eleven chapters later, [[spoiler:her friend Emma smashes a tank using the Wonder-Mop.]]

* The original slash novel ''Literature/CaptivePrince'' is notable for using a lot of those. [[spoiler: Especially the earring comes to mind.]]

* In ''FanFic/RobbReturns''' chapter 63, [[spoiler: Jon manages to make a deep cut into Lysa's arm as she attacks him.]] Eleven chapters later, [[spoiler: the cut has festered and corrupted, forcing Lysa's men to pull into the closest keep - which turns out to be Bronn's.]]
