** She correctly points out that she and her traveling companions have not completed the physical training required to complete a 246 km run in a day in a half. But she goes along with it anyway despite her cynicism, even though her assumptions are right on the money.

* OnSecondThought: When she meets Akira and Kencho while looking for a camper van, she says she has no intention of traveling with them because that would be to risky, until Akira reminds her that she just told them she doesn't have a driver's license and has no idea how to drive an actual car. She promptly readjusts her previous statement and says that traveling with them would be less risky than trying to drive herself.

** Part of her cold personality once introduced was due to her [[AbusiveParents abusive father]]. Her father expects her to do everything ''he'' wants, and not what ''she'' wants, and a flashback scene in the anime shows why she was so cold: Her father found out about a puppy she was keeping, [[KickTheDog and had it killed]]. He doesn't [[LoveObstructingParents allow her to date a boy she was interesting in]], and [[FantasyForbiddingFather disallows her for wanting to be a doctor]]. After she met Akira, she began to loosen up around him and his friends, enjoy her life, and help people as much as she can as a doctor's assistant.

* ZombieInfectee: [[spoiler:Subverted. A zombie caught Shizuka off-guard and bit her in the arm, but thanks to the serum made from Izuna's blood, the infection is quickly nullified.]]

* ZombieApocalypseHero: A rather unusual take on this trope. Akira and his friends don't use guns (except for the time they're fighting against [[spoiler:the Crushers]], and that's also part of the bucket list), but they ''can'' distract or kill zombies with enough tricks on their sleeves.

* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: The anime has him being deeply affected by the women he get grows close to as opposed to making it PlayedForLaughs. In episode one and the movie, when he sees Ohtori who has turned, he tries to hold back his emotions [[AnguishedDeclarationOfLove while visibly crying and makes his confession]], then ruefully tells her goodbye as he runs from her. In episode 4, he grows close to Yukari, who is a flight attendant, and they were discussing their dreams. But then she gets bitten by the zombie businessman who was with them, and she accepts her fate. Akira is again crying in a sadder manner than the InelegantBlubbering in the manga.
* TheAlcoholic: Akira ''loves'' beer, not realizing how good it tasted until after he's started being able to drink it for relaxation rather than DrowningHisSorrows. His first supply runs are not for essential items like food and medicine but for more beer. That said, he admits to not liking sake because of how easy it is to drink yourself sick.

* ArmorOfInvincibility: Downplayed. The shark suit Akira retrieves from a Tokyo aquarium is made from a titanium mesh weave along with steel chainmail to protect the wearer from shark bites. Wearing it makes Akira essentially immune to zombie bites, but the fact that it's stab-proof and not impact-proof means that he still feels it when they're biting him to his surprise and alarm.

* CannotTalkToWomen: Downplayed. Akira's desperation to get hitched leads to awkward conversations with the opposite sex thanks to his tendency to open them by [[SkewedPriorities asking if they have a boyfriend]] in the middle of a ZombieApocalypse. But once he relaxes and gets his mind off finding a date, he can be pleasant and easy-going conversationalist.

* TrashOfTheTitans: Akira is so exhausted by work that he never has the time or energy to clean his apartment, leaving it filled with trash bags, empty bottles, tissues, and instant food. The actual trash bin is overflowing and it's a miracle he finds any place to sleep. One of the first things he does after the ZombieApocalypse begins is finally clean his room, leaving it spick and span while dumping the trash all over the heads of the zombies lingering below his veranda.

* DoomMagnet: Whenever the group goes on one of their destinations, it's bound to be surrounded by zombies. It doesn't help that they're just fulfilling their lives to the fullest, and somehow it's attracting zombies. And they don't cause it either. Outside forces will always throw a horde in their way.

* TookALevelInCheerfulness: With the exception of Beatrix, everyone else has has some form of trauma in their life. Akira recovering from his SoulCrushingDeskJob, Kencho's [[BeingEvilSucks guilt over being a sleazy real-estate salesman]], Shizuka's [[AbusiveParents cynicism from her abusive father]], Takeru's status as a dropout, and Izzy's past involving her mother. But when Akira began to live his life again, everyone else did so as well, and it allows them to find a newer lease on life and enjoy themselves despite living in a world where they're being chased by the undead.

When society collapses from the ZombieApocalypse, one of the first things he marks off of his list is to live out that dream by saving a bus-full of people using a shark-proof suit.

* ThisIsUnforgivable: He's horrified and outraged learning the Umbriel Corporation not only created the zombie virus but have been using a mutatated version of said virus to create bioweapons.

* OhCrap: [[spoiler: After Akira seemed as if he turned into a zombie at first and resulting in Higurashi delightfully declaring his NearVillainVictory, his devastated reaction when realizes he’s been had when Akira reveals he had pretended to be a zombie (through makeup and acting) says it all.]]

* UseToBeASweetKid: Implied. From what we know, both him and his grandparents used to be nice people before the zombie apocalypse broke out.

* Beware The Living: An utter {{Jerkass}} before the apocalypse who became worse after it, he uses cult-style brainwashing techniques to gather minions and works them to the bone (the series' adaptations also has him much more [[DirtyCoward willing to use them as cannon fodder to stay alive]]).
