* AffablyEvil: Most of them come off as decent people despite being villains. Vector's the exception. [[spoiler:Of course, it helps that they ''were'' decent folk in their past lives.]]

* DyingAsYourself: [[spoiler:All of them revert to their original human forms after being defeated and absorbed.]]

* GlowingEyesOfDoom: They are able to do this. As shown in the first opening and episode, their glowing eyes are also ColourCodedForYourConvenience. Later episodes have their eyes glow pink.

* AbusiveParents: His father from his past life as a prince most definitely was this. He was a ruthless and blood-thirsty conqueror and sadist who would always beat, force and manipulate Vector to join him on his conquests despite his constant pleas that he didn't want to . He also physically and verbally abused his wife in front of Vector all the time. After he became ill, Vector became the new king and he took this opportunity to make a peace treaty with the other kingdoms to stop the wars that his father started. This enraged his father, to the point that he said that he regretted to bring him into this world. He then proceeded to take his sword from Vector and try to STAB HIM TO DEATH (note that he was only 13 years old at the time). His mother then came and protected him from the slashes before dying in Vectors arms. The king's reaction to this? Nothing at all. Just him telling his wife and son to "shut up" before he himself collapses. Also note how for the other Barian Emperors, Don Thousand had to brainwash their friends and allies to manipulate them. For Vector, he didn't even do that, meaning that the king was simply naturally evil. Is there any wonder why Vector falls for Don Thousand's corruption so easily?

* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:He's an irredemable dick, yes, but after his past is fully revealed you can't help but feel sorry for him and think what might have been had Don Thousand not gotten involved. To elaborate, his father was a heartless conqueror much like he ended up being, but ended up injured. Vector seized this chance to propose peace talks, which his old man wasn't happy about, and this ended up with Vector's mother throwing herself in front of Vector to protect him from a sword slash. His father succumbed to his wounds and died, and [[FromBadToWorse THEN Don Thousand]] showed up and gave him his Over-Hundred Number, making him the heartless bastard we know today.]]

* HeroicSacrifice: Sacrificed herself to free Abyss Splash from Vector's control. Subverted later on, turns out that Don Thousand brainwashed her to do it.

* TraumaCongaLine: Arguably gets it the worst out of all the Barians, given how she has been brutally killed no less than 5 times!!!!

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He has a lot in common with Yami Bakura, particularly his manga incarnation. Both are introduced relatively later in their respective series, and are initially friendly and innocuous but turn out to be hiding a darker side, being cruel, sadistic, and LaughingMad. Both are clever manipulators, but take very active roles in their plots. Both use Decks based on "evil spirit"-themed Fiend-types, vary their strategies considerably between appearances, and tend to favor lockdown strategies and alternate win conditions such as mill. Both serve mainly as agents of the GreaterScopeVillain. Both are distinctly inferior Duelists to the main character and rely on unfair tactics to get an edge, but tend to stay effective as villains due to cleverness. And both are incarnations of a villain from the distant past who was completely psychotic, but [[spoiler:had a sympathetic background]].

* VerbalTic: Occasionally adds "jyan" to his sentences. More prominent whenever he explains a plan that he has done.

* SparedByTheAdaptation: A variation, and more like "Spared by the Dub". In the original version, Alito was framed for treason by friends of his rival (even though the rival did not approve) and executed as a result; the dub version simply says he was banished as punishment.

* TheHeavy: Of all the Barians, his plan to stop Yuma is simple- he just walks up to Yuma and attacks him on the spot. Later he shows that dueling wise he's likely the strongest of the Barians, able to go toe to toe with numerous opponents and come out on top easily. Kite is the only person able to really fight back against him for a real length of time.

* WorthyOpponent: In spite of his immense pride, he views Kite as this to the point that [[spoiler:he sheds tears at the latter's death, following their final duel.]] He also accepts a duel with Quinton and Trey solely because Quinton was the one who taught Kaito how to duel. Quinton even literally calls himself a worthy opponent and Mizar looked like he'd creamed himself.
