At the heart of the Synchro Dimension lies a classist metropolis called [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin City]], consisting of the wealthy Tops and poor Commons, ruled by the Executive Council, and patrolled by Security. Tops continously look down on the Commons, despite making up only 1% of the entire population and the only way to rise up in class is to duel your way to the [[{{Pun}} top]]. This setting is based on the [[Anime/YuGiOh5Ds third Yu-Gi-Oh! series]] with fan favorites Jack Atlas and Crow Hogan making a return to the series. However, they are alternate counterparts to their originals, done most likely to avoid confusion.

* MultiEthnicName: Shinji Weber is a combination of a Japanese name and a German name. Although, Weber is pronounced in the English way.

* InsaneTrollLogic: His accusations that Yuya is in cahoots with Roget and that his duel with Yuya was rigged, after seeing Roget come out to congratulate Yuya. While his first accusation could be probable from his perspective [[DramaticIrony due to not knowing things that the audience does]], his second accusation, if true, also makes him complicit in said duel being rigged, as Roget points out.

* HundredPercentAdorationRating: For the Commons. When he was arrested 10 years ago, they revolted and even with the new Duel Chasers, they could not stop them.

Kick The Son Of A Bitch now is not a trope, as a result of TRS.

* KickTheSonOfABitch:
** [[spoiler:In Episodes 93 & 94, he gives Sergey a brutal smackdown with a calm look on his face, to Roget's horror and disgust. This may have something to do with Sergey's attempted killing of Yuzu in Episode 77. Subverted after Sergey breaks free, and he is completely okay with the loss after Jack gives him a warrior's death.]]
** [[spoiler:Played straight in Episode 96, where he is not happy with Roget interfering his second Duel against Yuya and pulverizes five Duel Chasers with Scarlight in retaliation.]]
** [[spoiler:Later in Episode 99, when Roget is about to make his escape and give Yuzu to Academia, a pissed-off Jack has Scarlight attack him to release Yuzu. He doesn't show Roget any chivalry by challenging him to a Duel, instead, straight-up attacking him with his ace monster - given Roget's actions and his outright cheating during his Duel against Reiji, it's very clear that he didn't deserve whatever chivalry would have been handed his way.]]
** [[spoiler:By the time he returns in Episode 120, he personally teams up with Yuya to take down the BB for carding Tsukikage and Crow, attacking Sawatari, and knocking Gongenzaka out cold.]]

Misuse. The Dog Bites Back is a Death Trope which involves a villain. Also, a character can only be an Expy of one other character.

* TheDogBitesBack:
** All the years of humiliation and denigration from the Tops culminated in Shinji using the Friendship Cup participant's immunity to proclaim his "The City is one" message and call the Commons to rebel.
** [[spoiler:On the receiving end of this by Yuya, who uses Tuning Magician to add the gap between their life points and summon Enlightenment Paladin to win the Duel.]]

* {{Expy}}: Of Jin Himuro/Bolt Tanner from ''5D's'', the boss of the prisoners whom Yusei befriended. His own philosophy as Enjoy Chojiro is similar to Yuma's.
** Replace cheating with desperation, and his story arc is similar to Zane Truesdale of GX. Both fought with honor and fun until one duel that caused them to snap. Unlike Zane, who resorted to desperation, Chojiro cheated.

* {{Expy}}:
** He's essentially [[Anime/YuGiOh Dark Malik]] as a D-Wheeler: an insane CombatSadomasochist who revels in pain and uses monsters that have a theme of torture devices.
** As of Episode 93 he also serves as one for [[spoiler:Aporia, as a Cyborg who can combine with his D-Wheel, and serves as TheDragon to the season's main villain]].
** He also shares quite a few similarities with [[Anime/YuGiOh5Ds Rudger Goodwin]], in terms of appearance and being the right-hand man to Roget, an expy of Rex Goodwin. [[spoiler:Emphasized even further when he gets his Earthbound deck, which when paired with his backstory effectively makes him a Dark Signer in all but name.]]

* {{Expy}} and CompositeCharacter: Appears to be one to Goodwin from ''5D's''. He also resembles a younger [[Anime/YuGiOhZexal Dr. Faker]]. The chess motif might be a minor nod to Gozaburo. His enmity with the Professor also brings Tron and Keith's vendettas against Dr. Faker and Pegasus to mind. Finally, his use of MindControl is very much like Malik and Saiou.

Misspelled.

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Unlike his ''5D's'' counterpart, who was willing to betray his own friends for a better life and was rather condescending prior to the CharacterDevelopment; this Jack is sterner, but has never betrayed anyone and is incredibly well-meaning in his intentions. If anything, him being seen as a "[[CatergoryTraitor traitor]]" by the Commons is a result of an InUniverse BaseBreakingCharacter.

* AboveGoodAndEvil: All he cares about is dueling against strong opponents, and is willing to encourage and support Commons who are taking the first step to uplift their own situations, as seen in Sam's case. But overall, Jack is unconcerned about the socio-economic and political conflict between the Tops and the Commons.

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: In a contrast to his ''5D's'' counterpart, this version is much more brooding and wiser.
