She even struck Wrestling/ShaneMcMahon with kendo sticks when he turned heel and helped DDP beat Taker down. * BoredWithInsanity: How her HeelFaceTurn is essentially presented. Considering the reason for her SanitySlippage and FaceHeelTurn in the first place is her frustration over not winning the NXT Women's Title, Io calming down when she finally wins it makes sense.
* BreakTheCutie: Was forced to watch her best friend get her arm broken kayfabe-wise. Then her new ally, Wrestling/CandiceLeRae, also was jumped and beaten by the Horsewomen. * FaceHeelTurn: Devastated after narrowly losing to Wrestling/ShaynaBaszler in a cage match for the NXT Women's Championship, Shirai turned her wrath on friend Wrestling/CandiceLeRae, suplexing her onto an open chair.
* FinishingMove: As a {{Face}}, a very beautiful Moonsault in which she gets lots of hang time. As a {{Heel}}, her moonsault seems to have morphed - perhaps by design - to a lower-angle rotation that favors landing impact over height, more akin to Wrestling/{{Lita}} or [[Wrestling/ImpactWrestling Seiya]] [[Wrestling/NewJapanProWrestling San]][[Wrestling/LosIngobernablesDeJapon ada]].
* TheGlomp: Not as bad as Wrestling/{{Bayley}}, but since allying with Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai, she loves to hug them tightly.
* HeelFaceTurn: At some indeterminate point in 2020 from vicious, slightly psychotic lone-wolf villain to laser-focused, enigmatic anti-heroine.
* HellBentForLeather: Ever since both her {{face heel turn}} and {{heel face turn}}, she's been rather fond of leather pants.

* HiddenDepths: Despite becoming rather dark and unhinged since hitting her RageBreakingPoint and FaceHeelTurn, Io still competed honorably far more often than not, and was still easily more likely to take flight in battle than to run away, especially in a match. She also continued to play to the crowd rather a lot, perhaps indicating that she missed their approval despite any assertions to the contrary, as well as continued to use the Tiger Feint Kick as a SignatureMove, clearly still holding a soft spot for Rey Mysterio. Before long it became rather clear that Io Shirai wasn't souled out, but simply lost in the sky; beneath her gritty and callous exterior stood a devastated soul with a broken pride who couldn't accept that her failure to defeat Wrestling/ShaynaBaszler was entirely her own fault. Naturally, around the time she did become NXT Champion, defeating Shayna's conqueror Rhea Ripley in a triple threat to dethrone no less than Charlotte Flair, Io had finally began to mellow out and put a more constructive focus to her solitary Tokyo dark approach.
* IWorkAlone: This aspect of her character began as a central part of her initial heel turn and hasn't changed since. Unfortunately for her, she happened to score a win of the NXT Women's Tag Titles with Zoey Stark. Io's pride and honor as a competitor means she'll give her best effort at defending her titles like always, but she's stuck with Stark as a result - and visibly, vocally, and hilariously unhappy about it.
* LightningBruiser: You wouldn't expect a high-flyer like Io to do jackknife suplexes and Piledrivers ''off the ring apron''.
* MeanCharacterNiceActor: As a Damage CTRL member she's mean but in the match with Dakota Kai against Wrestling/{{Aliyah}} and Raquel Rodriguez she's concerned about Aliyah got wind knocked out.
* MeaningfulRename: Changes her surname to IYO SKY upon joining the main roster in 2022. Sky, obviously coming from her RedBaron "Genius of the Sky" and for the fact that she has a Diving Moonsault as a FinishingMove.
* MsFanservice: Io did a lot of gravure photoshoots in Japan as a part of Stardom, but she never shied away from showing more skin than some of the other women, to the point where she did completely nude ([[LensFlareCensor but]] [[CensorSuds censored]]) shoots. But after she was let out of the cage, she turned back and attacked her friend Tegan Nox, leaving her unable to compete, and left Ripley and Candice [=LeRae=] to face a four-on-two numbers disadvantage. And then she later revealed (confirmed, really) that ''she'' was the one who took out Mia so she could get herself into position for this.
* CreepySouvenir: Since becoming a heel she has taken to coming to the ring with Tegan Nox's knee brace, which she ripped off her leg at [=WarGames=].
* DisproportionateRetribution: Her heel turn was motivated by being left out of Rhea Ripley's [=WarGames=] team, which is understandable but [[FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse doesn't justify]] the lengths she went to for revenge, or what she did to Mia Yim and Tegan Nox.

** The suddenness and vicious physicality of her FaceHeelTurn, as well as her post-betrayal behavior (including said betrayal being symbolically represented in part by a knee brace), is taking some obvious cues from the now-infamous heel turn of Wrestling/TommasoCiampa on Wrestling/JohnnyGargano a couple years earlier.
** Besides the sudden and vicious nature of her turn against a established teammate, the fact that she would afterwards take credit for the success of the team via putting a twist on a RedBaron she had during her run with said team ("The Captain of Team Kick"), recalls Wrestling/SethRollins's infamous turn on Wrestling/TheShield, and how afterwards he would use the nickname he was given during his run with the stable, "The Architect of the Shield", to take credit for its success.
** Her use of a much larger wrestler as an enforcer after said larger wrestler helped her win a match recalls [[Wrestling/BryanDanielson Daniel Bryan]] during his Planet's Champion phase.
** Her being joined by a larger wrestler is also the latest in a long line of acts very reminiscent of Wrestling/ShawnMichaels during the time he adopted [[Wrestling/KevinNash Diesel]] as his heavy. Naturally, around the time she did become NXT Champion, defeating Shayna's conqueror Rhea Ripley in a triple threat to dethrone no less than Charlotte Flair, Io had finally began to mellow out and put a more constructive focus to her solitary Tokyo dark approach.
* IWorkAlone: This aspect of her character began as a central part of her initial heel turn and hasn't changed since. Unfortunately for her, she happened to score a win of the NXT Women's Tag Titles with Zoey Stark.
