* DrivenToSuicide: She attempts to commit suicide in the second half of "Thanks" due to her depression stemming from Chris's injury. It doesn't work out.

Barkhorn is also one of the "Double Aces" of Karlsland. She holds the highest kill score over 250. She is disciplined and efficient: a very stereotypical German military personality. However, to her friends Minna and Erica, whom she has known for a long time, she's slightly more open and friendly although she often yells at Erica for lacking discipline. She cares deeply about her little sister Christiane, who was injured before ''Strike Witches'' in a Neuroi attack. Her striker unit is based on the Focke-Wulf [=Fw190D-9=] and her weapons are two [=MG42=] machine guns with dual drum magazines. She is named after WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerhard_Barkhorn Gerhard Barkhorn]], the second highest scoring ace in history.

Shizuka is a newer member of the Witches who idolizes Yoshika. Without much knowledge of war, she sticks strictly to the rules due to her being raised by a military family. She is given the role of accompanying Yoshika in her journey through Europe but is very shocked and dismayed at Yoshika's demeanor which seemingly is disgraceful for her rank. This comes to a head when she disproves even of Yoshika's desire to help everyone she can and break the rules if absolutely necessary. Over the course of the film, she mellows out considerably when she meets the rest of the 501st. Her ace archetype is Kazushi "Popo" Uto.

Naoe Kanno is a short but strong-headed Witch from Fuso and a JerkWithAHeartOfGold. When she was young, she was a really obedient child with a keen sense of literature. But when she started to train to become a Witch, she started adopting a more aggressive personality, adopting a fighting style of fighting until you simply can't fight anymore. While this does make her undertake actions which might cause her to crash often, she still proves to be a force to be reckoned with. Her Striker Unit is based on the Yamanishi Shiden Model 21 and she uses a Type 99 13mm machine gun. She is named after the Japanese pilot Naoshi Kanno.

Waltrud Krupinski is one of Karsland's veteran aces. Self-claimed "Countess", she is a hard-drinking hedonist and womanizer, but generally easygoing. She has a tendency to discard personal safety to line up her attacks, causing her to get into many crashes. Even so, she has a fairly lengthy military history and has the skills to be considered one of the top aces of Karsland. Her Striker Unit is based on Messerschmitt [=BF109G2=] and she uses an [=StG-44=] assault rifle. Her namesake is the German pilot Walter Krupinski.

The leader of the Brave Witches, Gundula Rall is the third-greatest Witch in the world. She acts like a brash and frank older sister, but she isn't overly serious. During the evacuation of Karlsland, however, she was hit when she couldn't focus, which led to her back being fractured. She went through extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation to get back in shape, but she still needs to wear a corset with magically-woven fibers to prevent the old injuries from flaring up in combat. Her Striker Unit is based on the Messerschmitt [=BF109G2=] and her weapon is the [=MG42=] machine gun. Her namesake is the German ace Günther Rall, the third greatest ace in the world.

Georgette Lemare is a Witch born in Gallia and lived most of her childhood in her family's inn. She is a sweet and gentle soul, but also world-wise and straight forwards, and also a good cleaner. During the evacuation of Gallia from the Neuroi attack, she quickly manifested her powers and enrolled into the military alongside many other Witches-to-be. While not a particular stand-out, she has a defensive fighting style and her healing magic is crucial in any team. Her Striker Unit is based on Arsenal VG-39 and uses a [=DP28=] light machine gun. She is named after French ace pilot Georges Lemare.

The cold and efficient commander of Squad B. Based on George Preddy.

Grew up on an impoverished farm near Hubbard, Oregon and came to greatly resent nobles as a result. Based on Marion Carl.

Milasha is an Orussian witch who is a big fan of Aira. A decent witch in general she was dismissed from her squadron because of her horrible aiming skills. A girl with a personality of extremely energetic highs and lows, but who is always at the mercy of her surroundings. Although she has no intention of doing so, her natural energy and caring personality combine to make those around her wonder why she is always angry. Her familiar is a borzoi hound named Olivier. And her namesake is Lidia Andreyevna Ruslanova.

A Gallian witch who has been performing alongside Aira ever since she was pulled from the frontlines. She can come off as being bit strange due to her frank speech and conduct, but she is also someone who cannot help but to help others in need. Her familiar is a house cat named Rio. She is named after Édith Giovanna Gassion (better known under her stage name Music/EdithPiaf).

A witch who came from the New Zeeland Air Forces. She is one of most energetic members of her previous position, a girl who loves to exercise and dance when she can. She never managed to see action in the frontlines as her kiwi familiar "Kyuu-chan" made her too unpredictable in terms of effectiveness, but she loves her little bird friend all the same. She is based on Ana Matawhāura Hato.

A Romagnan witch who in spite of her outstanding training results was thrown around by the different branches for some reason before finally landing in the Music Squadron. She is usually indifferent with most things, but her true passion comes forth when it comes down to fashion, being good at designing clothes. Her familiar is a sheep named Pekorus. She is based on Silvana Fioresi.

* ReallyRoyaltyReveal: [[spoiler:Being a part of Carignano dynasty, she is a member of Romanga royal family]].

A witch who originally enlisted into Liberion Army as a way to support her eight younger brothers due to her sick parents. She is seen as being everyone's little sister due to her age, but she also has a dutiful side to her who loves drawing. Her familiar is a prairie dog Smile. She is based on Jo Stafford.

A witch who fought in the Liberion Volunteer Army during the Dunkirk Evacuation. After retiring from active duty due to her age, she sought to find a way to help those who are still fighting the Neuroi, believing in the power of music. She eventually formed the Luminous Witches, a squadron of witches who cannot fight in the frontlines who instead use the power of song to heal others. Her familiar when she was still a witch was a horse. She is based on [[Creator/JamesStewart James Maitland Stewart]].

* BreakHerHeartToSaveHer: [[spoiler:Once she gets better and she is sent off to rejoin the Brave Witches, she tries to force Hikari to return to Fuso. This is all to spare Hikari from getting injured in the line of duty. Unfortunately for Takami, it backfires when she gets seriously injured once again.]]

* ShooTheDog: At the end of ''Brave Witches'', [[spoiler:she tries to make Hikari leave the titular squad, since she didn't want her sister to get injured. It doesn't work out]].

A mysterious alien force that arrived from space one day and started wrecking havoc. Their goals are unknown.

A Gallian Intelligence Officer who arrives to oversee an investigation into the Noble Witches after a bomb destroys a hangar at Sedan, determined to find a traitor in the group. * DisneyVillainDeath: Falls to her apparent death after her Striker Unit is destroyed over the English Channel.

Erica's identical twin sister. A brilliant engineer who designs and build strike units, including a Me-262 jet striker prototype used by Trude. She is introduced at the end of episode 4 of ''Strike Witches 2'', where she offers the 501st a sack of potatoes as an apology for the super jet striker unit being unstable. Formerly a member of the 507JFW, AKA the Suomus Misfits Squadron.

Famed Liberion general tasked with leading the liberation of Berlin from the Neuroi. Based on the real life [[UsefulNotes/GeorgeSPatton General George S. Patton]].

Shirley is a mechanical enthusiast from the United States of Liberion. She is a thrill seeking speedster and her goal is to break the sound barrier. Before the war, she raced motorbikes and set a land speed record. When she joined the 501st she modified her Striker unit to help her with her goal of breaking the sound barrier. In addition to her obsession with speed she's also obsessed with cleanliness: even going so far as to have her personal bath shipped when she was transferred into the 501st. Her Striker Unit is based on the P-51 Mustang and her weapons of choice is the Browning Automatic Rifle M1918. She is named after American WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Yeager Charles "Chuck" Yeager]].

* TenMinuteRetirement: [[spoiler:She quits the military in the finale of ''Strike Witches 2'', but Shizuka picks her up back to Venezia in ''TheMovie''. Then she gets her power back during a very crucial moment, so ShesBack in action with full glory]].

* AmbiguouslyBi: Yoshika normally shows an incredibly obvious attraction to girls, but one episode also shows her getting a love letter from an elisted man and she does appear to entertain the idea or at least play along with it with Lynette encouraging it. Minna breaks it off before anything can come of it, however.

* FinalGirl: Played for laughs in ''Road to Berlin'' after her fellow Witches were [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie cursed by]] the [[BreastExpansion bust-enlarging]] idol and kidnapped Yoshika for the fertilization ritual.

* HairTriggerTemper: She can easily go from calm to extremely frustrated whenever her squadmates frequently push her buttons, and [[IdiotHero Kunika's]] antics tend to test her already short patience to its absolute limit.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite her arrogance, due to an incident with starving bandits as a child, she believes strongly in the idea of ''noblesse oblige'' and that nobles and the wealthy have a duty to take care of the less fortunate. Also, her abrasive personality is something of a put-on and he real self is much kinder. When Kunika finds this out, Heinrike begs her not to let anyone else know as she fears it will damage her reputation.

* SitcomArchNemesis: With Marian Carl. The two of them can't even stand being in the same room with each other and are constantly competing to see who is the superior witch.

* OreOnna: She uses boyish "ore" pronouns when she does not watch her speech in Japanese which is rendered with more boyish speech patterns in translation.

* Eyeless Face: While this applies to the majority, if not nearly all Neuori; this is a particulrly striking feature with the X-11 Witch-Class Neuroi girls, which makes them seem more engmatic, myterious and "eerie" reflections of the witches. There are some exceptions, if granted technically; like the Sphinx Neuroi and a number of universe historical art depicting Neuroi taking the forms of Monsters, Dragons, Oni and other such beasts and creatures of humany mythology.

The daughter of Sayaka Miyafuji and the late Ichiro Miyafuji and granddaughter of Yoshiko Miyafuji, Yoshika comes from a family of magical doctors on the island nation of Fuso. Ichiro was responsible for the creation of the Striker Unit, magically powered engines that amplify magic, to counter the Neuroi. However, Ichiro was killed in the war tainting Yoshika's perception of it. She was initially reluctant when Mio Sakamoto [[CallToAdventure came to recruit her]], but after helping to defend the Fuso fleet from a Neuroi attack, she agreed to join the 501st as a sergeant. Yoshika's striker unit is based on the Mitsubishi [=Zero A6M3a=] and she carries around a Type 99 13mm machine gun. She's named after the WWII ace Kaneyoshi Muto.

Lynne is a very personable if a bit shaky, sniper from Britannia. Lynette is the middle child of eight siblings and was sometimes overlooked. Because of this, she's domestic and painfully shy. She joined the Strike Witches shortly before Yoshika to help protect her homeland. Lynette is assigned to be Yoshika's roommate, where the two quickly become friends. Her striker unit is based on the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IX and she lugs around a Boys Anti-Tank Rifle in battle. Her sister, Wilma Bishop, is named after the WWI Ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Avery_Bishop William Avery Bishop]].

Minna is the leader of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing and the commander of the Karlsland Air Force. After the Neuroi appeared and her lover was killed, she gave up her dream of becoming a singer to join the Karlsland Air Force. Because of her traumatic past, the safety of her subordinates is her top priority. Despite her kind and gentle demeanor, she will go to any lengths to protect her subordinates. She is even willing to issue orders specifically to prevent them from being hurt and she was the one behind the order forbidding male workers in the base from socializing with the witches. Her striker unit is based on the Messerschmitt [=BF109G2=] and her weapon is the [=MG42=] machine gun. Her character is named after the WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf-Dietrich_Wilcke Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke]].

* HeavySleeper: She considers being one hour late for morning duties to be an ''achievement''.
