* AssholeVictim: Somewhat downplayed, as she is hardly and the worst dragon aroudn but is still a pretty nasty piece of work. As detailed below, Kestral had a heartbreaking experience in the past that likely made her as cold as she is in the present. Yet despite that, she is still a thoroughly nasty piece of work. To recount, she was an abusive caretaker to the Dragonets of Destiny who treated them horribly, implored brutal teaching methods in their training, and was even willing to go through with tying up and likely killing [[spoiler: Glory on Morrowseer's orders without any sort of hint of remorse. ** Adding to this, she was [[spoiler: also working for dragons as morally screwed up as Morrowseer and Blister anyways, so she was never particularly sympathetic to begin with, despite her past experiences.

*UngratefulBastard: After being rescued from Scarlet's palace by the dragonets, she can't even be bothered to offer a proper thank you to them and acts callous as usual. Gets worse when one recalls the fact that she was abusive to them prior and yet the dragonets still went out of their way to save her despite that.

* LaResistance: They're an undercover group trying to stop the war.
* UnwittingPawn: Morrowseer tricks them into to carrying out his [[spoiler:fake prophecy]], as part of his plan for the Nightwings to take over the [=RainWing=] kingdom.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: The Talons are willing to lock the dragonets in the cave and kill anyone who interferes to promote peace. Some of the Talons are definitely more this than others, though.

The [=IceWing=] charged with bringing the [=SkyWing=] egg to the underground cavern. He's caught and killed by Burn.
----
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Burn stabs him with her tail.
* KilledOffForReal: Is killed by Burn at the very beginning of the first novel.
* PursuedProtagonist: He appears being pursued by Burn and her soldiers in the prologue of the first book. He doesn't end up making it alive, and surprisingly, neither does [[TheChosenOne his]] [[EggMacGuffin cargo]].

->"You always said it was so important to be loyal. I guess we’ve learned something about loyalty, haven’t we?"

Dune, formerly on Burn's side of the war, was one of the guardians charged with watching the dragonets of destiny. He was killed by Queen Scarlet when the [=SkyWings=] found the cave where the Dragonets of Destiny were hidden
----
* BelatedBackstory: Was one of the dragonets considered for Winglets #2, despite having died in Book 1, though he ultimately lost the vote to Deathbringer. He actually gets his backstory in ''Deserter''.
* BrokenAngel: He's a dragon with flightless wings.
* BuryYourDisabled: Scarlet kills him instead of taking him prisoner because of his disabilities, and slashes at his scarred wings and missing legs before she [[NeckSnap snaps his neck.]]
* ChildHater: As Clay notes, he's chosen to stay in the cave with his dragonets because he can't fly, not because he particularly likes them. ''Deserter'' shows this stems from being very nearly forced by his parents into being a teacher despite actually wanting to join the military.
* CynicismCatalyst: Having his wings destroyed by [[spoiler:Burn]] to [[spoiler:punish Six-Claws for defying her]] considerably changes him from a friendly, somewhat naive dragonet into the bitter and [[TheStoic stoic]] dragon we meet in ''The Dragonet Prophecy''.
* DefectorFromDecadence: He leaves [[TheCaligula Burn]] along with Six-Claws due to their frustration about her policies, not to mention [[spoiler:crippling Dune to teach Six-Claws a message for questioning her.]]

* LiterallyShatteredLives: Happens non-fatally to him when [[spoiler:Burn shatters his wings that were frozen by an [=IceWing's=] frost breath.]]
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: The "in-between" one of the three guardians, for being not a particularly friendly dragon but, despite being downright abusive at times, also having moments of kindness.
* NonActionGuy: He's missing a leg and can't fly, so he can only stay in the cave and take care of the dragonets.
* NotSoStoic: He is always very serious and strict, never showing any emotion. When Scarlet invades the cave, he shows fear for the first time Clay has ever seen him do so.
* SenselessSacrifice: He dies trying to protect the dragonets from being imprisoned, but Scarlet captures them anyway.
%%* TheStoic: Is described by Clay to be harsh and serious, showing little emotion. When [[spoiler: Scarlet attacks the dragonets]], he is noted to [[NotSoStoic show fear for the first time in his life]].

[[folder:Webs]]
!!Webs - [=SeaWing=]
->"I joined the talons of peace to stop killing dragons."

A dragon who joined the Talons of Peace for peace. He was one of the dragonets guardians. Webs was the one who brought Tsunami's egg, and Glory's egg as a replacement for the [=SkyWing=] Dragonet, whose egg was smashed by Burn. Now, [[spoiler:he is a history teacher at Jade Mountain Academy.]]
----
* ActualPacifist: As the above quote shows, he takes his role as a Talon of Peace seriously and refuses to kill any dragons, even if he's willing to let others do it without intervening.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Though the one time he does fight [[spoiler: to defend the dragonets against Scarlet]], he holds his own impressively against the [[spoiler: [=SkyWings=]]] before he [[spoiler: escapes through the river.]]
* EasilyForgiven: Glory thinks that he is, [[spoiler: Queen Coral, on the other hand...]].
* EskimosArentReal: He expresses skepticism over stories about the world before the Scorching, since clearly scavengers couldn't ''possibly'' have had complex society like dragons do.
* ForYourOwnGood: Says this is why he keeps the dragonets in the cave, and during moments like when he and the other guardians restrain Tsunami in molten metal chains as punishment for defying the guardians in front of Morrowseer. Unlike Kestrel and Dune, who don't particularly like the dragonets but need them for the prophecy, he seems to genuinely believe this.
* ItsAllMyFault: Thinks this about [[spoiler: The [=SkyWings=]' attack on the Summer Palace]].
* TheLoad: In ''The Hidden Kingdom'', thanks to [[spoiler: being injured by Blister's venomous tail stinger]].
* LovableCoward: As shown in his narration in ''The Lost Heir'' prologue, he feels horrible about escaping when Scarlet raided the dragonets' cave, and he's a kind dragon who just thinks it would be better to escape and stay alive then to fight and [[SenselessSacrifice die pointlessly.]]
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: His joining the Talons of Peace causes [[spoiler:his wife's death]], when he steals Tsunami's egg it causes [[spoiler:Coral to kill the guards he drugged to get at it]], and when he tries to go back to the Summer Palace looking for forgiveness, [[spoiler: it leads to his son nearly being executed along with him, and then the palace being violently destroyed, leading to the deaths of many dragons.]] No wonder he feels so depressed and guilty by ''The Hidden Kingdom''...
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: The "nice" one of the guardians, for being genuinely kind to the dragonets, an ActualPacifist and being the only one who doesn't hate [[TheUnfavorite Glory]] [[spoiler:though he's still willing to let Kestrel kill her.]]
* NonActionGuy: He doesn't like fighting at all, which is why he left the war and joined the Talons of Peace.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Deserts Queen Coral's army and joins the Talons of Peace.
* SoleSurvivor: Is the only member of the Talons outpost to survive.

* BoardToDeath: [[spoiler: Morrowseer and Blister]] invite her to their meeting to discuss their plans for the Dragonets of Destiny and then kill her.
* BurialAtSea: Morrowseer & Blister give her one of these, only for her body to wash up and be found by the Seawings.
* BusCrash: She is killed very soon after she leaves the dragonets behind.
* ChildHater: She never ceases to remind the dragonets just how much she hates being stuck in a job taking care of them. [[spoiler:Probably because of her horrible experience with having her own dragonets.]]
* DefectorFromDecadence: The reason why she left Queen Scarlet's service.
* DrillSergeantNasty: She is supposed to be the guardian responsible for teaching the dragonets fighting, but she mostly just ends up yelling at them for being too lazy or not fighting well enough.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: The dragonets' escape plan only works because she doesn't account for Starflight and Sunny working together and having empathy despite being from different tribes.
* EvilIsBigger: Not exactly evil, but she's a large dragon, especially compared to the KidHero protagonists, which underscores how dominating and threatening she is to them.
* {{Jerkass}}: She is abrasive, aggressive, and rude.
%%* KilledOffForReal: She's killed by Morrowseer and Blister when they decide [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness they no longer have any use for her]].

* NiceMeanAndInBetween: The "mean" one of the three guardians, for being aggressive and abusive to all of the dragonets constantly.
* OffingTheOffspring: She was the mother of [[spoiler: twin dragonets, one with too much fire and one with too little, who are supposed to be killed. Scarlet forces her to kill one and save the other, but then goes back on her choice.]]
