* DetrimentalDetermination: Ultimately, the Dwarfs' determination is their {{fatal flaw}} for, no matter what, they will never, ''ever'', back down or defy a grudge and will risk their lives, no matter how insignificant, disproportionate, or detrimental it may be towards others or their well-being. It's because of this as well as not having much in understanding forgiveness that the dwarfs have ended up in a {{vestigal empire}} for thousands of years and have steadily become more endangered in their population.

** Traditional Karaz Ankor Dwarfs extend these feelings towards the Dwarf diaspora living in the Empire. Karaz Dwarfs view flatland Dwarfs as deserters profundly tainted by human vice, to the point of not seeing them as true Dwarfs and only using the term "Dawi" for themselves -- they usually refer to plains Dwarfs as ''Umgdawi'', "Manling Dwarfs", or ''Gazani'', "Flatlanders". In turn, Imperial Dwarfs tend to see World's Edge Dwarfs as judgemental, stodgy and inflexible. Relations are usually better with the younger Holds in the Black Mountains, Grey Mountains, and Vaults.

* FantasticSlurs: The terms used by the Dwarfs for other species are not usually very complementary. Most of the terms used in Khazalid for others are simply derived from taking a word for some uncomplentary concept that they associate with others and making a general plural noun form of it by giving it an "-i" ending.
** Humans are usually referred to as "manlings" or, in Khazalid, as ''umgi'', a word that roughly translates as "those who do shoddy work", since most things of human manufacture are decidedly dodgy by dwarf standards. Note that their name for themselves, ''Dawi'', comes from ''dawr'', "good workmanship".
** The term for Elves, ''elgi'', is derived from ''elgram'', which means "thin, weak, or feeble" to broadly mean "weak ones" or "feeble ones".
** ''Grobi'', used for Goblins, comes from ''grob'', the color green -- literally, it means something like "greenies".
** ''Thaggoraki'', the word for the Skaven, comes from ''thag'', meaning dishonourable or cowardly murder. Skaven being Skaven, "cowardly murderous rats" is a rather accurate term for them.

* GovernmentInExile: Dwarfs place immense value on tradition, inheritance, and ancestral pride, which means that the royal houses and clans of fallen holds and kingdoms will never willingly give up their claims as long as a single member survives. In some cases, this means that some of the royal houses of holds that fell during the Time of Woes, 4,000 years before the setting's present, still live as exiles in surviving holds or wandering from place to place, continuing to pass down ancestral crowns, titles, and formal authority over cities and lands that have been ruled by goblins, skaven, undead and dragons for the majority of history.

Case in point, one time the Dwarfs killed a human architect simply because he made an extremely minor mistake in payment.

* GoldFever: One of Dwarfs' faults is that they crave material wealth -- while they won't break their laws for it, it turns into an obsession for miners and treasure-hunters, who often disregard common sense and danger to seize the wealth they're chasing, and Dwarfs are notoriously hard to negotiate with when it comes to matters of payment.

Worse still, the wealth often attracts Greenskins to go after the holds in an attempt to take it for themselves.

A dying race modelled on the [[OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame Tolkienian archetype]]. The Dwarfs, or ''Dawi'', are gruff, insular, long-lived, but also excellent miners, smiths and masons. At the beginning of the world the Dwarfs carved a great empire named the Karaz Ankor out of the ore-rich mountains of the Old World, creating a network of fortress-cities, the Karaks. However, as time went on, wars and catastrophes piled in and the Karaks fell one by one, assailed by Chaos, Greenskins, and Skaven. Nowadays the Dwarfs are a shadow of their former selves.
