An oodachi from the Rai school, Hotarumaru was a sacred sword that was kept in a shrine on Mount Aso. According to legend, he was badly damaged in a fight, but was completely repaired by fireflies (hence his name). He's a carefree and cheerful boy, notable for looking much younger than the other swords of his type.

* GlacierWaif: Since he looks so young, you'd think he'd be a typical FragileSpeedster like the tantous, but in actuality he's fairly slow and he has higher attack power and health (though he's still the fastest oodachi in the game). [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] since his true sword form is a {{BFS}}.
* HeightAngst: If you click on him, in one of his lines he'll [[StopPokingMe object to this]] because he thinks he'll shrink if you pet him. Considering how short he is in comparison to the other oodachi...
