* BerserkButton: There are a lot of things that this piss this crew off, both individually and collectively, but above all else, if you mess with one of them, you mess with ''all'' of them. If you want one example, [[spoiler:hearing Shiki address Nami as "property" drives every single member of the crew present into a ''murderous rage'']].

* ItsPersonal: Shiki seems intent on pissing off the entire crew as much as he can. First he kidnaps Nami and dumps them on his personal, ''hellacious'' floating archipelago, separating them all for a week and forcing them to jump from island to island trying to survive the very dangerous mutated animals that live there. Then, they find out that ''he'' was the one attacking their home sea of East Blue, which they had just been planning to take a detour to from their Grand Line journey. However, the absolute last straw for all of them [[spoiler:is when he shows up to take Nami back after she managed to escape from him, and starts ''scolding them '''for taking away his property'''''. That causes all of them, ''especially'' Luffy, to absolutely fly off the handle]].

** Monster Trio - Luffy, Zoro and Sanji, the top three fighters of the crew.

* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Enies Lobby, which is even worse than it is in canon. In canon, all the Straw Hats did was completely wreck the judicial island trying to get Robin back (with some not-so-inconsiderate help from the Marines). In ''This Bites!'', they did that, '''and aired it live''', for the ''entire world'' to hear. That act sparked a massive crime spree all across the Grand Line, spearheaded by the other Supernovas, who were trying to one-up the Straw Hats and/or draw away some of the impending heat. It even caused some of the Four Emperors to act up, which distracted every single Marine on that side of the Red Line, plus half of the Warlords. But they didn't end there -- no, they fanned the flames by airing a ''shit-ton'' of the World Government's dirty laundry, permanently ruining their reputation and precipitating civil unrest on a global scale, with numerous countries world-wide going revolutionary, including ''Water 7''. Their escape, an unprecedented ''victory'' by a single rookie pirate crew, over one of the three major superpowers no less, is the final nail in the coffin, and by the time they're done, they've made the World Government and the Marines assuredly regret the day they screwed with the Straw Hat Pirates.

* WeaponOfChoice: Of the crew's 25 members (as of the "Little East Blue" arc), nearly all of them carry (or have started to carry), have some access to or ''are'' weapons, on top of their inherent abilities. The only exceptions are Soundbite and Perona, both of whom rely on their Devil Fruit's powers (justified for Soundbite since, being a snail, he ''can't'' carry a weapon), and Su (who, being a fox, has no real powers [[spoiler:yet]] or ability to use weapons).

* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: He's a D., it comes naturally for him. ''Especially'' when the so-called superior being is threatening his crewmates. Just ask [[spoiler: [[JerkassGod B.R.O.B.]] how well it went when they gloated about ripping Cross from his home and marooning him on a strange world]]. Or Eneru when he kidnapped Nami and Cross.

** Upon hearing that [[spoiler: Merry can never return to her ship form without tearing herself apart, Luffy comments that it doesn't matter, saying that the important thing is that Merry is still alive and can continue traveling with the Straw Hats]]. Everyone is dumbstruck by how much sense he made.
** During ''Strong World'', [[spoiler:he's the first one to figure out that the mutated animals [[BatmanGambit have been playing them]]. How? The forest was too quiet, and he realized that wouldn't be the case unless the animals within were preparing for something. After listening to Cross and Boss' discussion over the plants and their chemical properties, he starts connecting the dots, and the other two finish it for him]].
** He's also the first [[spoiler:and only]] one to realize almost immediately just ''who'' their guest [[spoiler:Shiki]] was even before the smarter members of the crew like Cross, Nami or Robin figured it out when Tsuru called to warn them.

** Do not EVEN think to harm Luffy's crewmates if breathing is an activity you enjoy. Seriously, don't. When Lucci [[spoiler: beat Luffy the first time, Roger's voice was able to get him back on his feet by pointing out that if Lucci wasn't stopped he would murder every member of his crew]]. Needless to say, an ass-kicking ensued with Lucci on the receiving end.

** Immediately goes to try to attack Shiki as soon as he realizes just who he is despite knowing he's out of his league. [[spoiler:When he meets Shiki again and the man starts addressing Nami as his "property", Luffy ''flips'', hitting the ground so hard with his fist that it ''shatters'']].

* RageBreakingPoint: After an entire week of running around, jumping from flying island to flying island, separated from his ship and most of his crew, all while fighting off mutated animal after mutated animal, Luffy has finally reached his absolute ''limit''. [[spoiler:When the animals show up to attack him and his friends ''again'' during the first bright spot they've had in days, he outright '''snaps''' and all but ''roars'' at them to leave, awakening his Conqueror's Haki in the process]].

** He also resembles his father Dragon enough that [[spoiler: Cross would have probably figured out their relationship after meeting Dragon had he not already known]].

** Even better as of Chapter 42. [[spoiler: He used ''Armament Haki'']] five arcs earlier than canon.
** [[spoiler:He even awakens his Conqueror's Haki earlier than in canon, during ''Strong World'', bringing several mutated animals to heel and even knocking back members of his crew]].
* TranquilFury: [[spoiler:By the time Robin is done explaining the truth about Ohara to the crew, [=CP9=], and thus the entire world, Luffy is ''so'' furious that he's completely calm and composed, which, for him, is ''not'' a good thing]].
* VillainRespect: Due to the actions of [[spoiler: the SBS]], Luffy is [[FamedInStory far more well-known]]. Because of this, coupled with his MagneticHero tendencies and the sheer craziness he gets himself, several villains have developed a great respect for Luffy, normally coupled with an interest in fighting him:

** While an ally later on, Hancock's position as of now makes her liable for this, as thanks to [[spoiler: the SBS]] she clearly has become a fan of his.
** Then there is [[spoiler: Sengoku after the whole business with Lily Carnation; he developed a similar respect towards Luffy for ridding the world of Lily]].
** During the assault of Enies Lobby '''Doflamingo himself''' wants to see, more than anything, the sheer madness that will arrive from the Era of the Straw Hat Pirates.

* AintTooProudToBeg: Like in canon, he begged Kuma to take him instead of Luffy [[spoiler: and Cross, only to be shocked to learn Kuma would release ''only one'' and not ''both''.]]

** One-time advantages are fine with him, like putting salt paste on his swords for Thriller Bark.
* WreckedWeapon: Yubashiri, as in canon. Though it isn't completely destroyed, the Water 7 blacksmith can't fix it in time before the crew leaves, and so Zoro leaves it behind.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: He fully intends to sacrifice his dream to Kuma for Luffy [[spoiler: and Cross]].

* AchievementsInIgnorance: When she saw a glint from a far-off battleship, Nami assumed it was a sniper, and threw up a mirage to throw off said sniper's aim. What it actually was, was [[spoiler: [[LightTheWay Admiral Kizaru]] attempting to warp over to the Bridge and slaughter them all. Bottom line? Nami not only accidentally defeated Kizaru without even realizing it, she sent him flying so hard and far that he crashed into the Red Line.]]
* AintTooProudToBeg: [[spoiler: Upon hearing that Kuma will release only Luffy ''or'' Cross with Zoro's sacrifice, she offers up her own head and dream to save the two.]]

* HadToBeSharp: Living a life as a thief working under an oppressive Fishman pirate has led to her developing quite a few skills just to survive, including lock picking, stealth, acting, and observation. In particular, the last one includes looking out for telltale glints of light, which could indicate gold to be snatched up or snipers homing in on her (which almost got her killed one time).

* PsychoactivePowers: The first time she uses [[spoiler: the Eisen Dial]] in an actual fight, the clouds generated are shown to react to her subconscious thoughts (like strangling Cross) unless she actively gets a hold on them.

* BandageBoy: [[spoiler: Thanks to Enel's ElectricTorture,]] his forearms and lower legs were flash-cooked inside his armor, [[BodyHorror leaving them looking like melted wax]]. Although he can still use his limbs and hands, they are now perpetually bandaged to preserve his exposed nerves.

** Given that [[spoiler: his future-self]] was covered in enough bandages to resemble a mummy, it's likely this trend will continue.

* MadeOfIron: Thanks to Kureha's miracle vitamins and local food, this is what Cross becomes, enough to [[spoiler: survive 100,000,000-volt ElectricTorture]]. But originally, he was...

Plus, as of Chapter 31, "hear anything" apparently extends to [[spoiler:''the Voice of All Things''. The same power that enabled Roger to read Poneglyphs and him and Luffy to understand Sea King speech]]. If that's not enough, by Chapter 40, [[spoiler:'''Awakening''' his Devil Fruit can even make his opponents hear ''[[QuieterThanSilence silence]]''.]]

Ship Guards of the Straw Hat Pirates, Boss's four Kung Fu Dugong apprentices that join the crew alongside their mentor at the end of the Alabasta arc. They consist of Mikey, the funny one; Donny, the smart one; Raphey, the tough one; and Leo, the leader.

The shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates, an [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot unholy cyborg fusion]] of ''ComicStrip/{{Popeye}}'' and ''Film/AceVentura'' from Water 7 and the head of the city's underworld, leading the bounty hunters and ship dismantlers known as the Franky Family. Formerly known as Cutty Flam, apprentice to the legendary shipwright Tom, he discarded his real name in order to remain incognito from the World Government. He became a fan of the Straw Hats long before they reached Water 7 [[spoiler: thanks to the SBS.]] His dream is to build the greatest ship in the world and sail it to the end of the Grand Line.

* SharpDressedMan: This is Brook before the time-skip; so he's dressed in a three piece suit and a top hat. They were tattered from over fifty years of wear and tear, but Nami fixed them after he joined the crew.

* BlackSheep: [[spoiler: According to her, her family was very rich and she was the youngest of their many children. However, because of her NightmareFetishist-mindset, she was shunned and bullied by them, causing her to further delve into her mindset to escape them until Moria showed up.]]

* NightmareFetishist: She finds zombie stuffed animals adorable, [[spoiler: which got her bullied by her family.]]
* PowerIncontinence: Unless you are very in tune with your own mind, AstralProjection can cause your [[AndIMustScream spirit (and mind) to slowly drift apart,]] causing forgetfulness, and eventually death.

* SuperpowerLottery: With her fruit she can take down almost anybody with one Negative Hollow: not to mention its [[HavingABlast other]] [[AstralProjection powers]].

In canon, all the Straw Hats did was completely wreck the judicial island trying to get Robin back (with some not-so-inconsiderate help from the Marines). In ''This Bites!'', they did that, '''and aired it live''', for the ''entire world'' to hear. That act sparked a massive crime spree all across the Grand Line, spearheaded by the other Supernovas, who were trying to one-up the Straw Hats and/or draw away some of the impending heat. It even caused some of the Four Emperors to act up, which distracted every single Marine on that side of the Red Line, plus half of the Warlords. But they didn't end there -- no, they fanned the flames by airing a ''shit-ton'' of the World Government's dirty laundry, permanently ruining their reputation and precipitating civil unrest on a global scale. Their escape, an unprecedented ''victory'' by a single rookie pirate crew, over one of the three major superpowers no less, is the final nail in the coffin, and by the time they're done, they've made the World Government and the Marines assuredly regret the day they screwed with the Straw Hat Pirates.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: Unlike in canon, everyone is now perfectly aware of how insane the Straw Hats are thanks [[spoiler: to the SBS]]. They are also aware that their insanity doesn't make them any less dangerous.
