* NotSoAboveItAll: Most of the time, she's the most normal person in the crew (a consequence of her being the StraightWoman for [[LittleMissSnarker Su]]). However, at times she displays a comical level of obliviousness, such as when she first meets Brook, where Su has to point out that the living dead walking around is not normal.

* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: After the crew celebrates getting the Thousand Sunny, Merry is shown holding two mugs of ale bigger than herself and yelling out, "HELL YEAH, LET'S GET KEEL-FACED!"

** In canon, she admits that she was probably [[CantCatchUp the weakest of the Straw Hats]] when they left Alabasta. Here, by the time of Enies Lobby, thanks to her [[CompellingVoice Sovereign's Will]] and her Lion Cutters, and daily training she manages to develop enough skill and athleticism to defeat a Marine Captain-which is no small feat. And the first time she awakens the Soveriegn's Will, she saves Robin's life as well, freezing Spandam despite their long distance.

* KarmaHoudini: Somewhat subverted. Despite being a {{Troll}} more often than not, he got plenty of good things going for him such as hearing the Voice of All Things and Awakening of his Devil Fruit. It's very often it's Cross who got the brunt of the crew's anger due to Soundbite's more frail nature as a snail.

* HannibalLecture: He spends his entire time as Spandam's prisoner mocking his captor and telling him he's a dead man walking. Spandam eventually [[DestinationDefenestration throws him out a window]] in retaliation...[[NiceJobFixingItVillain which allows him to escape and help the Straw Hats]].

** The knowledge Su requested on the Children of Inari is, doubtlessly, also intended for this purpose. And in the Denouement, it pays off, as Su becomes the first member of the crew to knowingly eat a Mythical Zoan class Devil Fruit.

* FamilyOfChoice: Just like in canon, they form something of large, extended haphazard one. Cross in particular views Robin as an older sister (a sentiment she eventually returns), and became BloodBrothers with Zoro and Nami via a sake sharing ceremony not unlike the one Luffy shared with Ace and Sabo when they were kids.

* BloodBrothers: Conducts a sake sharing ceremony with Nami and Cross at the end of the Thriller Bark arc, cementing them as siblings.

* BloodBrothers: Conducts a sake sharing ceremony with Zoro and Cross at the end of the Thriller Bark arc, cementing them as siblings.

* BloodBrothers: Conducts a sake sharing ceremony with Zoro and Nami at the end of the Thriller Bark arc, cementing them as siblings. It hits a snafu when he ends up using COMЯADE-Grade South Blue vodka, something too strong for even Zoro and Nami (and something even Whitebeard is hesitant to drink), but Luffy comments that it still counted.

* TheTeetotaler: Cross doesn't like the idea of getting black-out drunk and refrains from drinking at almost all times. The only exceptions are when he's trying to [[BrainBleach block out Luffy, Shoujou, Masira's singing]] and when he, Nami, and Zoro become BloodBrothers through a sake ceremony like Ace, Sabo, and Luffy.

** Usopp, the sniper, is a liar, a coward, and the weakest member of the crew. He's also a GadgeteerGenius and trickster who is so skilled with a slingshot that a gun would be a ''downgrade.'' In this story in particular, what he lacks in strength he makes up for in cunning, trickery, and ImprobableAimingSkills.

* NeverGetsDrunk: Openly admits that her tolerance has gotten so high that she simply ''can't'' get drunk anymore, courtesy of her DarkAndTroubledPast. She even downed an organ-destroying amount of alcohol and was completely fine. Though [[GargleBlaster COMRADE-Grade South Blue vodka]] is too much, even for her.

* BloodBrothers: Conducts a sake sharing ceremony with Zoro and Nami at the end of the Thriller Bark arc, cementing them as siblings. It hits a snafu when he ends up using vodka, something too strong for even Zoro and Nami, but Luffy comments that it still counted.

** '''The World Government'''. While the Straw Hats get along with and even admire several of those under their employ, the World Government as a whole, both directly and indirectly, is responsible for screwing over at least five of their members, one of them in the story itself. Even those who didn't hate the government personally beforehand came to hate them after what they did to Vivi, and essentially have little to no qualms about Cross regularly pissing them off on the SBS. In turn, no one, not even ''Roger'' or '''''Dragon''''', has done more damage to the World Government than the Straw Hats. The Enies Lobby arc ''alone'' is responsible for the WG losing ''fifteen percent'' of its members, who either declare independence or have their current regimes overthrown so they can do the same. By the time of Sabaody, the WG has come to hate the Straw Hats so much that they deliberately try to lure them to Marineford so they can televise the crew's destruction to the world, putting it on the same level as executing Ace and ending Gold Roger's bloodline.

* BadassNormal: At the start of the story, Cross has ''zero'' combat capabilities, and since he's from our world, he lacks the superhuman endurance common in the world of ''One Piece''. He makes up for it with his intelligence, future knowledge of the story (at least until his usage of said knowledge starts creating butterflies), and Soundbite. As the story progresses, he starts growing into his own and, while nowhere near as strong as the more normal members of the Straw Hats, he's capable of holding his own fairly well. And from what is seen during Cross’s breakdown when he creates a small crater with a single punch hints that Cross may end up becoming strong enough to take on more than solely mooks like he always intended in the crew’s strength hierarchy.

** This comes up again in Impel Downfall Pt. 1, when Marigold mentions Tashigi and Cross’s vitriolic friendship and how it could develop into something beyond that one day. Heck, Bartolomeo has a betting pot for it, so who knows how many Masons are in on it? Plus we actually see a peek of this when Tashigi towards the end of the Marineford War is actually deeply concerned for Cross and desperate to find him. But when he was nowhere to be seen, she was left beyond devastated and worried for her dear friend, considering the last recording he left her and the Masons.

** Cross has quite a few, but his most prominent problems are his recklessness and his mouth. His adrenaline junkie tendencies have caused him to jump InHarmsWay on a regular basis (such as against Garp), and he often doesn't quite know when to stop needling people (like Jonathan) who could ''very'' easily kill him, leading to more than a few problems arising. AesopAmnesia doesn't even begin to describe it, as he rarely learns his lesson. B.R.O.B. even hints that this should've gotten him killed as early as Loguetown, pissing off Smoker enough to want to lash out at him while he was still MadeOfPlasticine, subsequently killing him by accident.

*** The ''scope'' of his meta knowledge, while large, is still ''finite''. He only knows as far the conclusion of the "Dressrosa" arc, and as such is left unaware about anything that happens ''after'' it. While this would normally mean he'd simply be flying blind once the Straw Hats leave Dressrosa, Oda has a habit of expanding on canonical backstories with each new arc, meaning even what Cross ''does'' know can be left inaccurate or filled with holes, which can then screw him over in the future. Such as his being unaware of Sanji's true past as a member of the Vinsmoke family before meeting Zeff, and only learning about it after the mess with Duval, Cross himself being just as caught off guard as the others due to said detail only being revealed in the "Whole Cake Island" arc. Or how one of the bigger reasons for his hatred of Aokiji was his actions at Ohara, including killing Jaguar D. Saul, [[spoiler:when the "Egghead" arc revealed that Saul is ''alive'', and made contact with Dr. Vegapunk while in hiding on Elbaf.]]

* BreakTheHaughty: As much as Cross has made massive strides to change the world of One Piece for the better, it was becoming apparent that Cross was becoming quite cocky using his meta knowledge to "flip the script". And despite knowing how the universe, or more specifically B.R.O.B., autocorrects any massive changes, Cross tries to cause in order to retain the outline of the story, he still was confident in his capabilities to make changes, with everything else he accomplished beforehand. At least till the last venture of Paradise came to completely shatter that confidence in himself. By the end of the Sabaody Arc, Cross's mindset had been dragged through the wringer, having to suffer an exhaustive SBS with Saint Charloss, the realization that Doflamingo had been pulling the strings behind everything they've done, and that Ace has still been captured and slated for execution, capped off with Kuma outright telling him he's powerless to do anything more about it. By the end, he's despairing over the fact that even with his newfound Herculean strength and all the new crew members, skills, and weapons they've gained up to now, it's still just not enough to match up with the top powers of the world.

* PlotAllergy: Eating biscuits, for a reason that not even he knows, causes him an instantaneous and excruciating case of diarrhea that lasts for a half hour.

* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Played with; the Grand Line is full of people with odd powers and Devil Fruit abilities, so Brook being a nine foot tall living skeleton might not raise too many eyebrows, even the Strawhats themselves freak out at first, until cross just said "devil fruit".

* InSpiteOfANail: Despite his foreknowledge and subsequent actions to change the future, things rarely turn out very differently than before in a beneficial way. This is actually his greatest fear: that despite his best efforts, he'll fail to stop the War of the Best and Ace's death. He only stops the latter by the skin of his teeth.

* Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite all of his eccentricities, never doubt the genius of Franky's work.

* Gentle Giant: It becomes apparent that beneath the hard metal shell of his gigantic body is a really soft center.

* Ridiculously Alive Undead: Thanks to the Yomi Yomi no Mi (Revive-Revive Fruit), Brook is a living skeleton who can get bruised despite lacking skin. He also eats despite lacking a stomach, is shown frequently to be a Dirty Old Man, and like every other Devil Fruit user, he is weak to seawater.

* Surreal Humor: Loves making "skull jokes" about the fact that as a skeleton, he no longer has skin, blood or stuff like that.

* Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Played with; the Grand Line is full of people with odd powers and Devil Fruit abilities, so Brook being a nine foot tall living skeleton might not raise too many eyebrows, even the stawhats themselves freak out at first, until cross just said "devil fruit".
