* HotBlooded: Very much so. Even worse than Arya. Steffon is very passionate and usually wears his heart on his sleeve. When he gets angry, he gets ''really'' angry, and his HeroicBSODs are much more noticeable than most characters'.

* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Mostly due to AdaptationalHeroism, AdaptationalNiceLady, as well as just plain change.

** While Arya can still be feisty and impudent, her characterization has her becoming more conscious about her actions and more overt with her affections for Steffon.

* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: [[spoiler: After arriving in King's Landing to help free Ned Stark, Steffon meets with his older brother, Joffrey, now officially king. Joffrey offers him command of their forces in exchange for breaking his engagement with Arya. Steffon refuses, but when Joffrey threatens to use Arya as a hostage, Steffon straight up punches his brother before giving him one final warning and leaving.]]

* ClingyJealousGirl: One way to get on her bad side is for anyone trying to take Steffon away from her. Best exemplified during the meeting with Renly, who tries to marry Steffon off to Margaery Tyrell. When Margaery makes an attempt to seduce Steffon, Arya is less than amused.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler: Not only did he fail at rescuing Ned Stark, but by losing his temper and hitting Joffrey, he was left branded as a traitor and only raised the stakes in the upcoming war.]]

* ReluctantRuler: Steffon ''really'' doesn't feel capable of leading armies, [[spoiler: mostly due to his botched attempt at rescuing Ned Stark]], and is even less thrilled about becoming king. He hates the idea of people losing their homes and lives to put him in the iron throne. By chapter 20, however, [[spoiler: Steffon finally accepts his responsibility as the rightful heir and claims kingship to the Iron Throne]].

* StrongFamilyResemblance: What sets him apart from the rest of his siblings. His black hair, which matches his father's, is the only true sign that proves Steffon to be Robert's true heir. The only thing that doesn't make him more resembling is his blue eyes, which he inherited from his great-grandmother, Rhalle Targaryen.
* TakeTheThirdOption: When Steffon is told to return to King's Landing to swear fealty to Joffrey and break his betrothal to Arya, Steffon chooses to return to King's Landing and safe Ned Stark. [[spoiler: It doesn't work out.]]
* TheUnfavorite: It’s no surprise that Cersei doted over Joffrey as her favorite son. Steffon speculates that he reminded her too much of his father, which led to a lot of Parental Neglect as a child, leaving Steffon with crippling insecurities and resentment for Joffrey.

* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: While it is given an offhand mention in the books, Arya is slightly more self-conscious and insecure with regards to her appearance and feels inferior for not being a "classic beauty" like Sansa and Margaery.

* CharacterDevelopment: Arya’s character development starts out with her as a Hotblooded Type A Tsundere. Thanks to Steffon, she starts to warm in her affections towards him and learns the value of keeping private thoughts and public sayings separate. She also learns to be less impulsive and more restrained.

* SlapSlapKiss: Arya has made it clear that she cares about Steffon very dearly and is willing to slap some sense into him when needed. A good example is when Steffon comes to console her after failing to rescues her father.

* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: A minor example. She still hates anything dresses and being referred to as a "lady". However, Arya is more self-conscious regarding her looks and doesn't like posing as a boy or having her hair cut short.

* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: WordOfGod has stated that Arya believes she’s in love with Steffon, but doesn’t quite understand what it means to be in love yet. Yet.

** She also recieves this from Steffon when he hears her insecurities regarding her looks, and makes her feel more like a classic beauty.

** This is also Zig-Zagged with regards to Steffon’s appearance. Out of all his siblings, he is the only legitimate child of Robert Baratheon, having inherited the Baratheon House’s black hair and blue eyes.
* BrilliantButLazy: Despite Steffon's natural gift at strategy, Steffon is one of the least ambitious characters in the story and is perfectly content at where he is.

Justified seeing how [[SiblingRivalry they have never liked each other]] and that as Robert's trueborn son, Steffon is the biggest threat to Joffrey's rule. Steffon, on the other hand, has no interest in being King, and only accepts his responsibilities to lay claim to the Iron Throne to stop Joffrey from being king and saving Westeros from the Lannister's cruelty.

* HeroicBSOD: Steffon doesn’t take the news of Myrcella and Tommen being the product of incest particularly well.

* HotBlooded: Very much so. Even worse than Arya. When he gets angry, he gets ''really'' angry, often letting his anger get the best of him which leads to trouble.
* HumbleHero: Steffon never brags and shows no strong amounts of pride or arrogance. He also prefers to keep his weaponry and armor simple in taste, yet effective in functionality. See HeroicSelfDeprecation above.

* BerserkButton: There are two things that are guaranteed to piss her off: insulting or hurting Steffon, or undermining her relationship with him.

Prince Steffon Baratheon is the second-born son of Cersei Lannister as well as the only legitimate child of Robert Baratheon, making him the rightful king of Weteros. As a great deal of the overall plot revolves around him and Arya, he is the primary main male protagonist of the story.

* AdaptationDeviation: Instead of being smuggled out of King's Landing and wandering Westeros as a fugitive, Arya accompanies Steffon, Jon and Barristan to Dragonstone, prior to her father's imprisonment, before returning to king's landing to rescue her father. After Ned's death, she sticks close to Steffon as he and Stannis ally their forces with Robb in the war for the Iron Throne.

** To Arya. Both of them have been bullied in their youth and feel inferior for their shortcomings.
** To Tyrion. Both of them are considered the BlackSheep amongst their siblings and are exceptionally intelligent.
** To Jon. Both of them are some of the only children of their generation to inherit the traditional family look but do not feel like they fully fit in.
* BlackSheep: Although he is loved by his family (except Joffrey), he can't help but feel that he is a disappointment to everyone. His fighting skills don't impress his father, his appearance displeases Cersei, and his idealistic belief that everyone is born equal has made him a laughing stock among the small council. He's also the only child among his siblings that is actually Robert's.

* TheChosenOne: PlayedWith. Seeing how Steffon is the only legitimate son of Robert and Cersei, he is the true heir to the Iron Throne.

* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: While Arya is still feisty and rash at the start, her character development has her become more cool-headed and in control thanks to Steffon's influence. She is also more outwardly pleasant and kind towards her friends and allies.
* {{Adorkable}}: Arya is shown to be easily flattered when complimented on her looks or when Steffon is around her.

* BeneathTheMask: As much as she acts like she doesn't care, Arya is self-conscious about her looks and feels inferior for not being a classic beauty like her sister or Margery Tyrell.

An OriginalCharacter and one the main focal characters of ''The Young Stag''. The second and true-born son of Robert and Cersei. Steffon grew up under the influence of his father and his uncle Stannis, modeling him into a skilled tactician and strategist. In a move to unite their houses, Steffon is thrown into an arranged marriage with Arya Stark. As the Kingdoms spiral into chaos, Steffon is forced to become the leader Westeros needs.

Steffon's LoveInterest. She is the second daughter and the third child of Eddard and Catelyn Stark and is arranged to marry Steffon. Reluctant and displeased at first, she soon makes due with the situation before forming a genuine bond with him. As the threat of war grows, Arya remains faithful to Steffon, not wanting to leave his side.

* BrokenPedestal: While Steffon does love his father, he is not pleased by his indulgence in wine, whoring and lust for battle.

For the most part, many of the characters remain the same with only a few slight changes here and there. This page is primarily dedicated to the Main Characters, but mostly Steffon, considering how he is an OriginalCharacter.

* HundredPercentAdorationRating: Downplayed. While the North is slow to support him, Greatjon manages to convince the Northern Lords to swear fealty to his side.

"Renly Baratheon means nothing to me, and Joffrey the Bastard doesn't neither. We may not like being ruled by the south, but Steffon Baratheon is a different lad altogether. A man who is actually willing to [[WisePrince fight and defend those under him; a rarity among his type.]]" He said. Again, the Northerners laughed. Some of the Riverlords looked mildly offended. "And he has a good Northern girl at his side; the daughter of Eddard Stark! A man who's honor is unquestionable. Why shouldn't we follow him?" He asked. Silence. "I'll bend my knee to no King but Steffon Baratheon!"

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Deconstructed. Steffon is honestly one of the kindest people in Westeros. However, he's known for having a volatile temper which makes him lose control and gets him into trouble more often than naught.

* BullyHunter: One of Steffon's most defining features is his protective nature over those who can't protect themselves and his hatred of bullies. Myrcella reveals that he would visit the city in King's Landing taking trips down to King's Landing to 'punish' them. This makes all the more sense as Steffon's drive to claim the Iron Throne isn't so much to become king, but more to keep Joffrey from being king and saving Westeros from the Lannister's cruelty.
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to Joffrey's Cain. This dynamic has been set up since the day they were born, with Steffon being the good one and Joffrey being the sadistic monster everyone loves to hate. Justified seeing how [[SiblingRivalry they have never liked each other]] and that as Robert's trueborn son, Steffon is the biggest threat to Joffrey's rule.

* FatalFlaw: His [[HotBlooded Anger]]. Steffon may be outwardly kind and naive, but when he gets angry, he gets ''really'' angry. It's justifiable, however, given how dysfunctional his family is and the environment he grew up in. Steffon can be very hotheaded and impulsive when pushed too far, often letting it get the best of him which usually leads to trouble.

* GoodIsNotSoft: While he is good enough to spare his dipshit older brother, Steffon is by no means a pacifist or a pushover.

* IdealHero: Out of all the runner ups for the Iron Throne, Steffon is probably the most ideal ruler. Joffrey is a psychotic ManChild with no clue how to rule the Seven Kingdoms, and Renly simply believes he's more suited for the role as king simply because he's popular. Steffon, on the other hand, is an idealist who genuinely wants to help the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Steffon is everything to Tommen and Myrcella that Joffrey isn’t. He cares for his two siblings dearly, even submitting himself to his older brother’s bullying to protect them.

* CainAndAbel: The Abel to Joffrey's Cain. This dynamic has been set up since the day they were born, with Steffon being the [[WisePrince "good" one]] and Joffrey being the [[TheEvilPrince sadistic monster]] everyone loves to hate. Justified seeing how [[SiblingRivalry they have never liked each other]] and that as Robert's trueborn son, Steffon is the biggest threat to Joffrey's rule.

* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: With Arya. While the two have a rough start at first, they decide to make the most out of their situation and start to fall in love and develop a deep affection and respect for one another.

* BerserkButton: While Steffon is known for being very volatile when angry, there are a few things that can really trigger it.
** Insulting, threatening or trying to harm Arya is guaranteed to put you on his bad side. This becomes more prominent over the course of the story as he and Arya become closer and more intimate. When Joffrey draws his sword to attack Arya, Steffon intervenes and calmly asks for a peaceful compromise. When Septa Mordane calls Arya a "beast", he quietly threatens to throw her into the Blackwater. When Joffrey threatens to make Arya his hostage, Steffon straight up punches Joffrey in the gut before threatening him and leaving.
** Any act of misconduct directed towards his loved ones is also a good way to piss him off. When he hears about Tyrion being imprisoned on false charges, he locks himself in his own room out of fear of taking it out on Arya and anyone else he cares about.

* SugarAndIcePersonality: Arya remains feisty and rebellious, but can be more sweet and pleasant when Steffon is with her.
