[[WMG: The Witcher video game original characters]]

These are characters unique to VideoGame/TheWitcher video game. They make their first appearance in the video game and not the books. For other characters in the saga, go [[Characters/TheWitcher Here]]

[[folder:Leo]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/i_hear_witchers_can_parry_bolts_in_flight_by_vertry_d8v77ch_copy.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"I've heard all of Dandelion's [[AscendedFanboy ballads]] about you."'']]

->''"You mock destiny. You mock it and trifle with it. Destiny is a double-edged sword. You are one edge and the other is death? No, it's we who die -- because of you."''

->'''Voiced by:''' Rolf Saxon '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A brash but kind youth and the youngest initiate to the Wolf School witchers. As an orphan from the Second War with Nilfgaard he was rescued by and apprenticed under Vesemir about six years prior to the game's opening. He is maliciously shot by the Professor during the prologue and can serve as one of Geralt's key motivators for tracking down Salamandra and avenging his pointless murder.
----
* BadassNormal: Hasn't received any mutation courses yet he holds up against a horde of bandits through conditioning alone. {{Subverted}} then however, as he, unlike a true witcher, is unable to deflect a crossbow-bolt and pays for his bravery with his life.
* CanonForeigner: Never mentioned in the books.
* ClosestThingWeGot: It's possible to use the Grasses (herbal steroids) and not the mutation process to make an incredibly strong human and teach regular humans magic. They did something similar with Ciri after all. It's a bad idea for obvious reasons as we see with Leo but fits with Vesemir's desire to try and recapture the past.
* DecompositeCharacter: Of Lambert, together with Berengar. Leo has the 'youngest witcher' part, while Berengar has the 'brooding loner who hates being a witcher' part.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The CD Projekt team shoehorning him in to the first game ends up exposing quite a few inconsistencies. Vesemir intended to send him out on the Path even though he didn't undergo the metamorphosis, which would quickly lead to his death against the first powerful monster he'd encounter. Also, despite never undergoing the Changes, he claims to be able to cast the Aard except for the fact that he broke his fingers on the Gauntlet. Sure, whatever you say, Leo...
* InNameOnly: He even admits himself that he is no "real witcher" and without the reflexes, strength and senses of his brothers, it is only Vesemir's fondness for the lad that attributes him the title.
* NaiveNewcomer: Not a full witcher yet, and though he never will be, he is quite cheery and idealistic. Before the attack, he hadn't even killed a single man. This makes his senseless death even more tragic.
* NiceGuy: A friendly and helpful young man.
* ReplacementGoldfish: Vesemir seems to see his young pupil as such, trying to recapture the essence of their order by training Leo in swordsmanship. Shame that's not the most vital element that makes a witcher, Papa Vesemir.
* SacrificialLamb: Gets killed off during the prologue as an additional motivation to hunt down the Professor.

[[folder:Azar Javed]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/azar.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"[[{{Invocation}} Allar Zarh Bin Talla]]!"'']]

->''"Before I kill you, you must know... Triss Merigold is being dragged to the laboratories as we speak. Torture will follow. Everyone breaks sooner or later. It's merely a question of time. What say you, witcher? Still the indifferent tough guy?"''

->'''Voiced by:''' Stanley Townsend '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A powerful Zerrikanian mage and leader of the criminal organization known as Salamandra. It's his attack on Kaer Morhen and subsequent theft of the witcher's secret stash of mutagens that sets the plot of the first game in motion.
----
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Not only is he the leader of the Salamandra, he’s also the most powerful mage ''and'' fighter in the whole organization.
* BadassBoast: Before their final battle, Javed warns Geralt that, in fighting him, the witcher has just pissed into a tornado. [[MythologyGag Vilgefortz said something very similar when fighting Geralt in the books.]]
* BigBad: In the first game. [[spoiler: After his death, however, it turns out that he’s just Jacques de Aldersberg’s Dragon.]]
* TheBrute: He could run for Mr. Olympia with a physique like his.
* CurbStompBattle: Triss learned the hard way (albeit off-screen) how powerful he is. Also, it is a very bad idea to expose him during Chapter 2 before luring him to the Tower. He'll kill Geralt with a single blast.
* TheDragon: [[spoiler:To Jacques.]]
* EvilSoundsDeep: ''Very'' deep. Also counts as BadassBaritone.
* {{Fetish}}: It apparently involves fire. Considering his violent nature, one can only imagine what that means for whatever poor woman that had the ''pleasure'' of sleeping with him...
* FunctionalAddict: Geralt only learns about his [[FantasticDrug fisstech]] consumption by proving Vincent's innocence. Azar himself never shows any signs of an addiction, yet he is fond of using the substance for a neigh untraceable method of gruesome murder.
* GeniusBruiser: A mage with the body of a barbarian warrior. His plot to obtain Alzur's Treatise in Act II can go off without a hitch if Geralt spurns to look deeper and it takes the collection of some very obscure pieces of information to rumble his scheme to pin his crimes on other suspects.
* KillAndReplace: [[spoiler:He murders the detective who’s working with Geralt and uses his identity to make Geralt do his dirty work. It solely depends on the player if his plan works or not.]]
* MadScientist: [[spoiler: He uses the stolen mutagens to create an army of mutated soldiers for De Aldersberg.]]
* MagicKnight: Even though Geralt (thankfully) nullifys his power in both of their fights.
* PlayingWithFire: His specialization is fire magic. Notable in that he uses it without suffering mental degradation of any kind.
* VisionaryVillain: Believes in and is something of an understudy of [[spoiler:Jacques']] final solution for a better future even if the means required to achieve it are utterly monstrous. His chief justification being because any other group either in or vying for power on the Continent does much the same. They're just not willing to get their hands dirty and leave underlings to commit their crimes.
-->'''Azar Javed:''' All is aligning with the Grand Plan. Should you demonstrate wisdom, you'd see it realised. \\
'''Geralt of Rivia:''' What if I refuse? [[DeadpanSnarker Witchers are simple and sentimental]]. \\
'''Javed:''' Who are you fighting for? Foltest? A monarch with more sins on his conscience than Professor has words in his vocabulary? Foltest impregnated his own sister and let his offspring eat the city's inhabitants for ''years''. Furthermore, during the war, he allowed Nilfgaard to plunder and torch neighboring allied kingdoms. \\
'''Geralt:''' Your point?\\
'''Javed:''' If not Foltest, then who? The Lodge of Sorceresses? You know not what those bitches do to influence postwar treaties. The resettlements, deportations, the unresolved matter of the Scoia'tael, and others...\\
'''Geralt:''' Your ''dazzling'' conclusion? \\
'''Javed:''' Salamandra is not evil. Not more than those willing to shape their own fate. \\
'''Geralt:''' If Salamandra is not evil incarnate, then what of Javed? Amorality, rape, murder, treason... What would you call this creature?\\
'''Javed:''' The future. Evolution or ''destiny''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Professor]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/professor.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"Your time nears its end, witchers. Enjoy things while you can!"'']]

->''"No doubt your life will end soon and how useless it's been! You'll die knowing you were an aberration..."''

->'''Voiced by:''' Steve Perring '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A sly assassin and Azar's right hand, participated in the raid of Kaer Morhen.
----
* AintTooProudToBeg: [[spoiler: Not that it helps him. ]]
* ArrowCatch: Yup Professor, [[spoiler: witchers ''can'' parry bolts in mid-flight.]]
* BowAndSwordInAccord: Has both a crossbow (sometimes wrist-mounted) and a sword as part of his weaponry.
* CardboardPrison: Shows off his power and influence by walking out of prison scot-free right under Geralt's nose.
* CompositeCharacter: While his name and description match a minor character from the books (see Expy below), he also shares many attributes with another, being the main lackey of a powerful sorcerer, a SmugSnake and a DirtyCoward with tendency to flee through teleports. Namely, Rience.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler: Gets half-devoured by a Kikimore Queen. For extra gory detail: his left leg (and a good deal of his lower torso) is ripped clean out of his arse and swallowed whole by the massive insectoid, then his screaming form is thrown with such force that every remaining bone and organ in his body is likely liquefied when he lands at Geralt's feet.]]
* TheDragon: To Azar Javed.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Averted in the English dub, where he sounds quite high and nasal, played straight in the German dub.
* {{Expy}}: Of Ralf Blunden, also nicknamed the Professor, from Literature/TheTimeOfContempt.
* FantasticRacism: Detests witchers, constantly referring to them as freaks, relics of the past etc.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Has a highly sophisticated choice of words, and spouts witty comments, but is little more than a sadistic slime-bag.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: Spots a pair of smoky-shaded round spectacles. You can acquire them in the third game and wear them yourself.
* GroinAttack: On the receiving end by both Triss and Shani, off-screen.
* HannibalLecture: Tries this several times with Geralt, prompting the latter to just [[ShutUpHannibal shut him up]].
* KickTheDog: Murdering Leo in front of Geralt.
* LastDitchMove: When Geralt finally corners him he tries for an underhanded shot from his wrist-mounted crossbow. When that fails he uses his last arrow to pierce an industrial alembic brimming with a reactive element. Exposure to oxygen ignites the substance and blows the floor out from under them. The fall fails to kill Geralt and, unfortunately for him, the Professor; he might find himself wishing in the last few seconds of his life that the impact with the cavern below had ended him first.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Not that much in the English dub, but in the original, mirroring Ralf Blunden from the books.
* SerialKiller / ProfessionalKiller: Is a well-known professional killer who has ended seventeen lives and is wanted for murder in Redania, Temeria and Kaedwen.
* SmugSnake: Way too full of himself for his own good.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Alvin]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/witcher_geralt_00287110.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"We play 'Kill the Elf'! I'm always the Grand Master!"'']]

->''"The villagers sometimes whisper behind my back. One even called me the Devil's child..."''

->'''Voiced by:''' Teresa Gallagher '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A pre-pubescent boy whom Geralt rescues from Barghests in the outskirts of Vizima. By all appearances, he’s a perfectly normal child, but he is also a Source, and has great potential for magic and especially a thing for [[OracularUrchin seeing into the future]].
----
* ChekhovsGunman: He's introduced as some random child rescued from certain death by Geralt. [[spoiler:And ultimately becomes the BigBad.]]
* CheerfulChild: [[spoiler:Although Jacques is not so cheerful.]]
* ChildMage: As a Source.
* CreepyChild: Whenever he has one of his premonitions.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: He has as much focus as Geralt, he's a constant cast member from beginning to end, he has quite a few similarities to Ciri (the {{Deuteragonist}} of the series as a whole), Salamandra have a vested interest in him, and [[spoiler: he's the BigBad (well, a time displaced, older version of him that is)]].
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Goes barefoot everywhere.
* {{Foil}}: To Ciri, later even [[spoiler: EvilCounterpart]]. Ciri started as a royal, Alvin started as a commoner. Ciri was orphaned at a young age, Alvin was adopted. Ciri was trained as a Witcher, Alvin was trained as a sorcerer. Ciri went to live with Yennefer, Alvin went to live with Triss (or Shani). The Thanedd Coup and Scoia'tael revolution divided them. Ciri trains with the Rats, Alvin ends up with the Eternal Fire. Ciri renounces sorcery, Alvin becomes a great Sorcerer. Ciri goes on to become a Witcher, Alvin becomes a Witch Hunter. Ciri renounces her destiny, Alvin embraces it. Ciri is rescued by Geralt, [[spoiler:Alvin is killed by Geralt.]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Alvin's just as sweet and innocent as he looks. [[spoiler:Meanwhile, Jacques has darker hair to indicate that his innocence is long gone.]]
* HeartwarmingOrphan: An orphan child who bonds with Geralt.
* HeroWorshipper: He sees Geralt as a role model, and takes a lot of what he says to heart.
* OracularUrchin: He can see into the future.
* SpearCounterpart: He's a rough male equivalent to Ciri, being a powerful Source child who Geralt serves as a father figure to.
* StableTimeLoop: [[spoiler:Vanishes into time, and presumably grows up to become [[BigBad Jacques de Aldersburg]].]]
* TagalongKid: Especially in Chapter IV, where he follows Geralt around, even in hostile territory.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: His Source power put him in danger of this trope. [[spoiler:And he eventually succumbs.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Adalbertus Aloysius Kalkstein]]
->'''Voiced by:''' William Roberts '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A friendly and somewhat eccentric master alchemist that crosses paths with Geralt for the first time outside Vizima. He can become a steadfast ally with a great deal of lucrative contracts to offer the itinerant monster slayer and a range of help regarding all things alchemical.
----
* BasementDweller: Funnily enough, he conducts his research in a dilapidated house at the centre of the Non-human District and spends most of his time mixing chemicals in a candle-lit cellar. Geralt more than once likens his behaviour to an under-dwelling gnome. An allusion to the modern nerd, though an independent nerd at that!
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He is also honorary chairman of the Alchemists, Geomancers, and Pyromancers Club, and rival of the Oxenfurt Inventors' Club.
* ForScience: When you first meet him he asks to examine Geralt's body as an exemplar of scientific and magical achievement. Slightly disturbed, Geralt refuses only for Kalkstein to inquire whether a postmortem would be acceptable...
* HiddenDepths: Is the one who helps Geralt plan the trap for Azar in Chapter II. He also knows the most about Gnomish technology, metallurgy (and magic) outside of anyone from Mount Carbon, leading to a surprising "hobby" of his.
* MarriedToTheJob: His introduction to Geralt leaves no doubt about his one, eternal and ever-lasting true love.
* NiceGuy: Always polite and willing to help our favourite witcher. The only time in the entire game when he'll even get angry is if he's accused of working with the Salamandra, he will promptly tell Geralt to get out of his home and address him derogatorily as a mutant. (A hint of how much you've hurt his feelings). [[spoiler: But don't worry, he forgives Geralt after he admits that he was wrong.]]
* NoSocialSkills: Downplayed, but as Geralt muses: ''the absent-minded alchemist seems nice, but it is obvious that scientific theories are of greater concern to him than the more prosaic aspects of life.''
* KilledOffscreen: Became a victim of the witch-hunters before the start of ''Wild Hunt''.
* LovableNerd: He will fill you in on all the aspects of the potion-making system and keep you flush with cash throughout the game's impressive run-time. On top of all this, he's essential to the completion of several quest lines and can optionally help you out with advice on several more.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: He is the closeted yet enthusiastic intellectual next to Geralt's rough-and-tumble stoical man of the world. Their clash of personalities makes for some of the funniest moments in the game.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Is also the NPC you will likely spend the most time with, as not only does he accept rarer loot drops from monsters for the highest selling price but he will also supply you with endless side-quests to obtain monster parts for his experiments.
* UltimateBlacksmith: You wouldn't think at it to look at him, but give him some old armour pieces and a magical formula along with twenty four hours and he will forge the best damn set of armour in the game!
[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Reverend]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Jay Simon '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

The spiritual leader of Vizima's Outskirts and a chaplain of the Eternal Fire.
----
* KnightTemplar: He has his own pregnant daughter thrown out of the village for refusing to follow the psycho-cult religion he does, forcing her to become a prostitute just to get by, and tricks his own people into believing that the innocent, kindly mage Abigail is responsible for the recent rise in monster attacks, forming them into a howling lynch mob.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Seems like a slightly JerkAss, but ultimately well meaning priest. You quickly learn that he's actually a fanatical nutjob.
* SinisterMinister: Leads his religion with cruel fanaticism. The first thing we hear about the Reverend is that he made the entire community cleanse their homes of "filth", implying the expulsion of 'problem children' (who he hands over to Salamandra for horrific genetic experiments) then made both the young and the old, not only the fit, crawl around the whole village to every shrine on their bellies to show their humility.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: He is able to convince his community to attack you, despite the fact that you just killed the monster that was plaguing the village.
* VillainousBreakdown: If you side with Abigail, he manipulates dozens of innocent villagers to attack you purely out of petty spite.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Abigail]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Teresa Gallagher '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A young beautiful cunning-woman and herbalist who lives in the Outskirts of Vizima, far from the townspeople that hug the city's walls. Though many view her with mistrust as a witch, they must also swallow their unjust suspicions and go to her for ointments, poultices, potions and other medicinals.
----
* BitchInSheepsClothing: [[spoiler: Averted. If you listen to the accusations of the villagers and let them burn her, it becomes clear in Chapter IV that she really ''was'' the innocent, framed party. That said, she is still a member of the Coram Agh Tera, so... See ReligionOfEvil below, though.]]
* BurnTheWitch: This can happen to her if Geralt opts to remain 'neutral'.
%%* DarkAndTroubledPast:
* HeadsIWinTailsYouLose: Even if horribly murdered and if Geralt spares the Reverend's life, you will find the psychotic demagogue [[FateWorseThanDeath reduced to a raving lunatic]] during the epilogue, believing that the Time of Disdain has come at last. The villagers who come out at night to persecute her are [[TooDumbToLive mauled to death by Barghests]] regardless of whether Geralt decides to interfere.
* ReligionOfEvil: Except ''not'', while most worshipers of Coram Agh Tera, the underground Cult of the Lionheaded Spider are fanatical outcasts who believe in human sacrifice, the original religion was founded as a spiritual coping mechanism for loss and abuse, (heavily hinted at in Abigail's past) and was widely accepted by a region of Nilfgaard's provincial nobility before worshipers of Kreve had the founders put to the stake. She seems to incorporate alchemy and animal sacrifice into a form of instinctual magic and when Geralt finds her hounded in the cave she is preparing some kind of primitive bio-warfare agent in a cauldron to ''kill the entire lynch mob''. Plus, only the truly innocent and wronged can conjure invocations that will lead to suffering and death against their persecutors. For example: the Lion Head Priestess that Nivellen raped in '' 'A Grain of Truth' '' cursed him into a beastly form that could only be broken by his true love's blood sacrifice, then sealed the spell with her own suicide. A shame Geralt, to which Abigail can curse as he abandons her is not ''directly'' responsible for her death and entirely blameless from past discrimination and is therefore safe from magical reprisal. It's safe to say she probably cursed the rest of the "congregation" while they bound her to the pyre as well.
-->The worshipers of Coram Agh Tera consider him to be the Great Weaver, who weaves the human fate into a great web. The web is constantly being expanded and corrected. Sometimes some threads are broken, which results in someone's sudden death. When one commits suicide, his thread is broken and he is devoured by Coram. Therefore he is worshiped as the god of sudden and unpredictable death.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Vincent Meis]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Jeff Harding '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

The commander of the Viziman city watch. A harsh, but ultimately fair man who proves to be extremely loyal to those he trusts. He tends to disappear at night and no one knows where he goes.
----
* AndroclesLion: When Geralt helps him cure his [[spoiler: Lycanthropy]] instead of killing him, Vincent returns as an ally, warning Geralt of a plot against him.
* AntiHero: He seems to be a [[Analysis/AntiHero Type II]].
* BackToBackBadass: with Geralt at the end of Chapter 3
%%* DaChief
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be quite the Jerkass, but does show a soft side. Especially considering his girlfriend Carmen.
%%* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent
* VigilanteMan: Commander of the city watch at day, bandit killer at night. [[spoiler: Being a werewolf is very helpful for that.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Siegfried of Denesle]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/siegfried_of_denesle_tw2.png]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Wayne Forester '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A knight of the Order of the Flaming Rose. He is one of Geralt's contacts in the first game. A well-meaning knight who just so happens to be terribly misguided.
----
* {{Adorkable}}: His earnestness and desire to help the downtrodden makes him seem naive in comparison to the CrapsackWorld of the Northern Kingdoms.
* BeliefMakesYouStupid: Subverted if you side with the Order. He is very suspicious of his Grand Master's motives, and doesn't hesitate to fight knights that side with him. Played straight in the other paths.
* CelibateHero: Which makes him as rare as a unicorn in this setting.
* ContinuityNod: With a dash of SpinOffspring. He is a nod to a scene from the books, where a knight tries to take on a manticore in lieu of a witcher and gets unceremoniously killed. (Geralt came along as it was trying to get to the meat.) A less heroic story than what little Siegfried was told about his father's demise.
* EveryoneHasStandards: [[spoiler: If you side with the Order, It becomes clear that Siegfried and the Knights under him do not approve of the Grand Master's schemes and when Siegfried ultimately succeeds Jacques as the Grand Master, he promises to change the Order for the better.]]
* FantasticRacism: Averted. Compared to his fellow knights he is very reasonable and gladly helps out Geralt even though he's technically non-human. He doesn't even seem that hateful of any non-Yaevinn Scoiatael, going so far as to show pity to the starving rebels he fought. Played straight when siding with the Elves and sometimes on the Neutral Path.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Blond, noble, chaste, and a knight.
* KnightTemplar: A milder example.
* MeaningfulName: Siegfried bears the same name as [[Literature/{{Nibelungenlied}} another selfless warrior]] of the north.
%%* OfficerAndAGentleman
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: As a frequent battler of the paranormal, he will listen to even the oddest of stories and requests from Geralt and help as best he can. [[spoiler: Even more so when he takes over as the new Grand Master, and promises to change the Order for the better.]]
* SpoiledSweet: Apart from his [[UsefulNotes/BritishAccents posh accent]], the disdain he shows for the witchers' practice of charging money for monster-slaying could only come from someone who has never been forced to work for a living (something Geralt dryly points out when they first meet). Nonetheless, he is one of the most admirable characters in the game.
* TookALevelInJerkass: When siding with the Elves.
* VirginPower: He has taken a vow of celibacy.
* WideEyedIdealist / WellIntentionedExtremist: The Order of the Flaming Rose is a xenophobic military Order of which Siegfried is an enthusiastic member. Subverted however in that Siegfried is both a NiceGuy and carries no ill will towards any race in particular.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Thaler]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thaler_tw3.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Peter Marinker '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A fence in Vizima. Actually a member of Temerian intelligence.
----
* AlmightyJanitor: He was basically Temeria's shadow ruler while King Foltest is away from Vizima in the first game.
* BaldOfAwesome: Shaved scalp, and proves to be a chummy (if crass) ally of Geralt's in the games.
* BadassLongcoat: Always wears one, although he doesn't really do any fighting.
* TheBusCameBack: Reappears in ''The Witcher 3'' [[spoiler:as a part of a conspiracy to restore Temeria's independence.]]
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Thaler clearly thought that the [[spoiler: conspiracy to take down Radovid]] was united under a common cause...and yet he failed to consider that [[spoiler: Dijkstra, the man orchestrating everything,]] might have ulterior motives and be willing to pull a YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness moment. Made even more glaring because Thaler is a ''spymaster.'' He should have expected this.
* HighClassGlass: Wears a monocle, which gives him a sophisticated appearance that in no way matches his crude behavior. The third game provides some foreshadowing to his activities when Geralt comes across a cracked lens.
* KavorkaMan: He's not exactly the best looking guy out there. That said, he once dated Shani.
* KnowledgeBroker: Even before he's revealed to be a royal spy, Geralt turns to him for information while investigating a murder in Vizima.
* SirSwearsALot: Just about every other word coming out of his mouth. Part of what makes Geralt suspect that [[spoiler: the trolls who captured Thaler in the third game are, in fact, holding him]] is because of the fact that these trolls seem to have an ''unusual'' proclivity for profanity.
* TheSpymaster: [[spoiler:A spy himself, and he has several more working for him]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Raymond Maarloeve]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Stephen Grief '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A reclusive and driven detective living in the Temple Quarter of Vizima. He help's Geralt uncover information on the Salamandra during Chapter II.
----
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: Get's murdered by Azar, who then impersonates him.]]
* ItsPersonal: Dropping Azar Javed's name when hiring him results in him working for you for free. [[spoiler: That's because Azar is responsible for the death of his family.]]
* LegacyCharacter: Claims to have been trained as an agent of the infamous "law firm", Codringher and Fenn.
-->''A famous pair of lawyers who ran a firm in Dorian until both partners died tragically under mysterious circumstances. At its height, the firm was retained by people from all over Temeria. If someone had difficulties, troubles, problems - they went to Codringher and Fenn. So the firm's clients quickly received proof of dishonesty and malpractice by their business partner. They could count on receiving credit from a bank without insurance or security. As one of a long list of creditors, they would be the only one to exact what was due from the company declaring bankruptcy. Their son would be released from the dungeon and cleared of all charges based either on irrefutable evidence or a lack thereof, because if evidence existed it disappeared mysteriously while witnesses retracted any earlier testimony. The wife's lover or the daughter's suitor would suffer complicated fractures in three limbs, including at least one upper one - all as a result of an unfortunate accident. And an enemy with a grudge or some other troublesome individual would soon stop being a nuisance, often vanishing into thin air. That's how Codringher and Fenn worked.''
%%* PrivateEye
* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: A downplayed example but still relevant. [[spoiler: Azar makes the rather foolish mistake of having Raymond's body thrown into the crypt in Vizima's cemetery instead of reducing him to ash with his fire magic. Yet when Geralt finds the body days if not sometimes ''weeks'' later in certain playthroughs, he has not been devoured by the necrophages and lower vampires infesting the place. What did you ''do'' to him Javed?!]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Berengar]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cutscene_killed_berengar_2_copy.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"Think you're better than me!"'']]

->''"I wanted to marry, have children, friends, a normal life. the witchers robbed me of that chance. This is nothing new to you. Humans hate me, when they see my eyes they blanch in fear and children -- tell me. What's the difference between your dear Kaer Morhen and a Salamandra lab?"''

->'''Voiced by:''' Nathaniel Parker '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

A surly, ineffective and rather pitiful witcher, his resentment towards the rest of the caste because of his fate is searingly potent; so much so that he has become an outcast. Geralt shadows him through the events of the first game, as the man turned mutant is seemingly involved in many affairs which he promptly quits to flee as far as his sword can carry him. After rather unsuccessfully faking his death, Geralt finally finds him during Chapter IV.
----

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Inverted. He always seems one step ahead of Geralt during the first three chapters, having been hired by many of the same people to deal with the same problems (The Beast, Monolith hunt etc), but he failed at accomplishing anything.
* BigDamnHeroes: If not killed by him, Berengar comes to Geralt's aid when fighting against Azar.
* CanonForeigner: Never mentioned in the books.
* CategoryTraitor: The only reason the opening attack on Kaer Morhen was even possible was because Berengar gave away the castle's secret location.
* CharacterDeath: See SenselessSacrifice below.
* DecompositeCharacter: Of Lambert, together with Leo, see above.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Whatever his psychological and emotional deficiencies, he is still a superhuman monster-slayer who survived the Trials and training. A shame, because he's a bad one, ''[[FailureHero really]]'' bad.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Twice. Because he hates the witchers, he allies himself with the Salamandra, but after witnessing their monstrous crimes, he breaks ties with them to run away once more.
* DirtyCoward: In his final letter, he admits he has ''always'' been one of these from the moment he arrived at Kaer Morhen as a boy.
* TheGhost: Until Chapter IV.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: And makes no secret of it.
* {{Jerkass}}: Is very bitter due to being a witcher, which he hates for denying him the wife, two children, pet, white-picket fence dream.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: If you don't seek a confrontation with him, he'll become Geralt's (rather ineffective) ally.
* RealityEnsues: Geralt can give him the final push to help him muster his courage and go after Salamandra... but this isn't a fairy tale and a man who's spent most of his time running away from his problems instead of confronting them is not going to be great backup -- he let's Geralt go OneManArmy as he assaults the old mansion, [[BigDamnHeroes then he jumps in at the last moment to fight Javed!]] [[NegatedMomentOfAwesome Aaand... gets his skull immediately crushed with a flaming spiked mace]].
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Likes to dole these out to Geralt and the witchers in general but he can't take as good as he gives and if Geralt searingly rebukes him for his cowardice, moral bankruptcy, hypocrisy and the fact that it was his indirect actions that led to not only Leo's death but the success-rates of Javed's experiments (through having a live witcher test-subject as a control group) [[DisproportionateRetribution he will attempt to cut you down!]]
* SenselessSacrifice: If he comes to aid you against Azar, it is 99.9% guaranteed that he will die. Saving him doesn't even give you additional dialogues or journal entries, so his death is pretty much canon, especially considering that he's not even given a mention in the second game and in the third [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg he exists only for Vesemir and Geralt to remind each other of what a drip he was]] in a little-known side quest.

->''"I am a goddess, you are the sword of destiny. Death has followed you for years."''

->'''Voiced by:''' Anna Apostolakis '' '''(The Witcher)''' ''

An enchanting mystical Water Nymph or Vila, of such harmonious moral character and attunement to spiritual peace that she is revered as a Goddess of the land, of both water and earth surrounding the southern shore of Lake Vizima. Once, hosts of knights in shining armour defended her honour against other mystical forces in the world but now, only the Hermit and the Fisher King remain as the last of her loyal servants. Through her presence the fruit and fields are always in abundance, the people are content and happy and all around the year, summer reigns eternal.
----
* BigGood: To both the residents of Murky Waters, as well as the Vodyanoi, who (initially) despise each other but will tolerate and even make peace with one another through her wishes alone.
* TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler: She returns in the second DLC of the third game, delivering Geralt Aerondight (again).]]
* {{Expy}}: Of Nimue, the 'Lady of the Lake' from the books.
* GodivaHair: As befitting one who is completely in touch with nature, her only clothing is her thigh-length luxuriant locks. Though it should be noted that she does sometimes wear clothes, if you consider her statue and this excerpt from the Hermit.
-->'''Geralt of Rivia:''' ''Who'' is the Lady of the Lake? \\
'''The Hermit:''' I know her to be a Goddess. At times I see her dressed in white, traversing the fields in morning fog, her bare feet stepping lightly over the dewy grass...
* {{Knighting}}: If you make peace with all sides, she will dub Geralt as her last knight and reward him with the sword she knights him with.
* NatureSpirit: She embodies a similar personification to that of Dana Méadbh, the Queen of the Fields, who was embodied in a mute peasant girl called Lille in the region of Lower Posada.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Geralt can enjoy a submerged romp with her... [[GuideDangIt As long as he chooses the right dialogue option, brushes up on his Grail lore with the Hermit, makes sure to choice the next right dialogue option]] [[CrowningMomentOfFunny and follows up all this by making a positive comment about her posterior!]]

'''Geralt:''' M'Lady, simple folk, they -- don't understand. \\
'''The Lady:''' I judge them not. But let's return to your desire to help. Begin by paying me a compliment. \\
'''Geralt:''' Hmm... I'm no good at this... M'Lady, um, your - wisdom is - inferior only to your goodness. \\
'''The Lady:''' Enough. I choose not to believe you don't find me attractive. Rather, I blame your famous scruples. \\
'''Geralt:''' M'Lady, your - eyes are like stars glimmering in the night sky. \\
'''The Lady:''' Distant, and cold. ''Weak'', witcher. \\
'''Geralt:''' Your ass puts others to shame. \\
'''The Lady:''' ''(laughing)'' None has ever paid me such a compliment. My brave knights only praised my soul, though I knew where their eyes fixated...
* PhysicalGod: She can give Geralt an enchanted ruby made from her own blood and but she also ''manifests'' herself from the water of the lake, before becoming one with it once more.
* PowerEchoes: Her voice has a slight reverb effect for that added dash of the supernatural.

The founder of the Order of the Flaming Rose and its current Grand Master. Fanatically opposed to nonhumans.
----
* BigBad: Of the first video game.
* TheChessmaster: See XanatosGambit below.
* TheChosenOne: A letter in ''The Witcher 3'' reveals he believed he was destined to stop the White Frost. [[spoiler: Which makes him the Unchosen One since Ciri is the one who ultimately stops it. He had already failed at this point, however, and was trying to figure out a way to help humanity survive.]]
* DarkMessiah: Truly believes himself to be the savior for the people of the North. Geralt soon puts a stop to that.
* EvilCounterpart: [[spoiler: To Ciri. See {{Foil}} at Alvin's sheet]].
* FamousLastWords: ''That sword is for monsters!''
* FantasticRacism: What else do you expect from the leader of the human-supremacist group?
* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:If he is Alvin, which the game all but spells out, his hatred of elves is very likely motivated by the fact that the inhabitants of Murky Waters, the village he and Geralt were staying in, were held hostage by Toruviel's commando unit before he teleported away.]]
** In the VideoGame/TheWitcher3WildHunt, a letter reveals [[spoiler: he's already tried and failed to destroy the White Frost. Hence his plan in the first game. He's been driven insane by the knowledge the world is doomed due to him not being strong enough.]]
* KarmicDeath: Geralt kills him with the silver sword, which is better-suited for killing monsters.
* KnightTemplar: This describes the Order of the Flaming Rose in general. [[spoiler:However, he in particular takes it to its logical extreme.]]
* MagicKnight: The first thing we see of him is a person in plate mail throwing a fireball.
* ManBehindTheMan: He is the one secretly pulling the strings behind Azar Javed and Salamandra.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: The first game implies that he's the Alvin as an adult. A letter found in a side quest in the third game confirms it.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: All of his actions are meant to allow humanity to survive the White Frost.
* VisionaryVillain: The man has big plans for the salvation of all humanity.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Would very much like Geralt to join him and the Order of the Flaming Rose (which makes an exception for its hatred of nonhumans regarding witchers just for him) so he can [[spoiler: lead the Exodus away from the Wolf's Blizzard.]]
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Bad childhood? Check. Being a mage of such power that drives him mad? Check. Seeing how cruel can non-humans be? Check? [[caption-width-right:350:Triss: ''He could see in the dark as well as you do. But I couldn't put an age on him...'']]

A mysterious mutant who may have been one of the two brothers that Letho knew to be on the Path ([[Characters/TheWitcher2AssassinsOfKings see here]]), or even a master creation of Azar Javed's flawed but successful mutation process on adult bodies. Whichever the case, he attempts to assassinate King Foltest during the epilogue of the first game, perhaps as a fail-safe to the Grand-master's plans. He nearly succeeds too, if not for the intervention of a white-haired wanderer...
----
* ArrowCatch: Deflects Geralt's thrown stiletto knife with a parry of his sword's flat.
* DualWielding: Wields a pair of short cutlasses, the most glaring evidence that he belonged to the Viper School, since this was a style favoured later by both Serrit and Auckes.
* MasterSwordsman: He is able to keep Geralt on the ropes throughout their entire duel and in a straight-up sword fight he most definitely would have ''won''. Any rabid fan will note however that Egan definitely had prep time before carrying out his assassination. But then again, there's no such thing as honour, or clean fighting in a match to the death. Luck or fate can be a deciding factor.
* NoNameGiven: He is often addressed in fan-circles with the moniker that was Auckes' original name in concept development before it was changed for an unexplained reason.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Although his appearance lasts less than two minutes, hoo-boy what a minute and a half it is. Without him, the events of the second game would never have happened.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Geralt never even ''asks'' Letho whether he belonged to the Kingslayer sect or not!

* TheDragon: [[spoiler:To Jacques.]]

* TheDragon: To Azar Javed.

----

* CheerfulChild: [[spoiler:Although Jacques is not so cheerful.]]
* ChildMage: As a Source.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Goes barefoot everywhere.

* KnightTemplar: A milder example.

* CharacterDeath: See SenselessSacrifice below.
* TheGhost: Until Chapter IV.

Check?

A mysterious mutant who may have been one of the two brothers that Letho knew to be on the Path ([[Characters/TheWitcher2AssassinsOfKings see here]]), or even a master creation of Azar Javed's flawed but successful mutation process on adult bodies. Whichever the case, he attempts to assassinate King Foltest during the epilogue of the first game, perhaps as a fail-safe to the Grand-master's plans and he nearly succeeds too; if not for the intervention of a white-haired wanderer...

* SmallRoleBigImpact: Although his appearance lasts less than two minutes, hoo-boy what a minute and a half it is! Without him, the events of the second game would never have happened.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Geralt never even ''asks'' Letho whether he belonged to the Kingslayer sect or not!

* ClosestThingWeveGot: It's possible to use the Grasses (herbal steroids) and not the mutation process to make an incredibly strong human and teach regular humans magic. They did something similar with Ciri after all. It's a bad idea for obvious reasons as we see with Leo but fits with Vesemir's desire to try and recapture the past.
