* BlondesAreEvil: She's got blonde hair, and she's not a nice woman.

* EntitledToHaveYou: To Mio. He thinks that he's overly "too friendly," she'll immediately fall head over heels for him.

* YouCantFightFate: How he feels about extracting Mio's powers as Wilbert's daughter; Basara, understandably, doesn't take this well. It's eventually subverted when Mio decides not to succeed her father.

* HeKnowsTooMuch: Killed by Belphegor's Master-Servant pact to make him stop talking.
* HisNameIs: Right before he can name-drop who ordered his assault, he is silenced by his Master-Servant pact.

* BodyguardCrush: Completely one sided. [[spoiler: Being tasked by Heaven to be Chisato's subordinate and protector, he developed twisted and unrequited feelings for Chisato. She turned a blind eye to it until he decided to go after Basara.]]

* DarkAndTroubledPast: Under Zolgia, her life has basically been one giant SnuffFilm. The reason Zolgia deliberately made her unable to experience sexual intercourse, is that he used her as a medium to steal the VirginPower of others, by raping them or handing them off to the rest of the Demon Council to be raped while under a succubus trait Master-Servant pact, and then stealing their powers away as the pact's curse triggered to its maximum under the shame and trauma of being unable to protect their chastity. Since she was the medium, Zest was ForcedToWatch. So the fact that she not only enjoys but actively seeks out intimate encounters with Basara and the rest of the harem is truly astonishing.

* AdaptationalHeroism: During the finale of ''Burst'' where she massacres the Demon Council as they're about to blow up the city, Liala comes off as no less sympathetic than Ramsus, or Jin.

* TheDogBitesBack: Turns out the Demon Council is directly responsibile for the deaths of her parents, and exploiting her since she was a small child. She had more than ample justifaction for killing them all, even if they weren't planning to blow up the city she was living in.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: In episode 2, Basara tells Mio not to let anyone know they're living together as that would make things awkward if anyone at school found out. She then accidentally reveals this after getting upset at Yuki hugging him when he transfers in.

* CantHaveSexEver: By design. Zolgia specifically created her so that if she has sexual intercourse, conensual or otherwise, she loses her powers, permanently. For more info, see the DarkAndTroubledPastEntry.

* InTheBlood: Like Basara, Jin apparently had multiple female love interests, from opposite sides. [[spoiler: A minimum of a LoveTriangle is confirmed, considering Basara's two mothers situation.]] When Jin finds out about Basara's situation, he's ''very'' proud of his son, and the way he handles it.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: Shella points out, in explicit detail, everything that would have gone wrong had Rukia gone through with her threat of deadly force on Basara for complaining about Ramsus's actions towards Mio. [[IgnoredEpiphany Neither Ramsus nor Rukia take it seriously.]]

* DidntThinkThisThrough: Basara points out the consequences of the fact that Mio was under-protected in the human realm to Ramsus as part of his complaint regarding his actions. Ramsus was completely unmoved at first.

* DidNotThinkThisThrough: Shella points out, in explicit detail, everything that would have gone wrong had Rukia gone through with her threat of deadly force on Basara for complaining about Mio's treatment to Ramsus. [[IgnoredEpiphany Neither Ramsus nor Rukia take it seriously.]]

* DidNotThinkThisThrough: Basara points out the consequences of the fact that Mio was under-protected in the human realm to Ramsus as part of his complaint regarding her mistreatment. Ramsus was completely unmoved.

* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: Being asked to sire the next heir with Liala actually makes both him and Liala very, very happy.

* FairPlayVillain: So much so, one wonders if he's actually evil. He doesn't rely on LoopholeAbuse to maintain his authority. He gives his enemies a fair hearing, and genuinely delivers SacredHospitality. He keeps his word, even when it works against him. Most importantly, he treats anyone who defeats him honestly with genuine respect and admiration, not with backstabbing, treachery, or malice.

* GreaterScopeVillain: He's the one who tasked Zolgia with securing Mio, though he obviously neglected to consider the methods Zolgia would use in the process.

* HeirInLaw: He was adopted out of an orhpanage by a demon noble family both to be the heir, and to marry their daughter because the girl's parents couldn't have any more children, and she, due to certain atavistic traits couldn't inherit the title. Both he and his prospective bride relished the idea with gusto.

* PowersDoTheFighting: He's completely helpless when his "Heroic Spirit" is deafeated.

* NothingPersonal: In the light novel rendition of the "heroic spirits" attack on the city of Wildart, he begs Basara not to take it personally with "Please, don't think badly of me" in the moments before intending to kill Basara. Unfortunately for him, Basara took it ''very'' personally, and would have sliced him in half along the waist if not for Nebra's interference.

* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: Both she and Leohart are madly in love and want to crank out kids together.

* NiceGuy: In spite of attempting to extract Mio's powers. Ramsus is kind and a good leader who's capable of being selfless; he learns to see good qualities in Mio and gives up his resentment.

* AttemptedRape: In the early parts of Volume 7, after Zest joins Basara's harem, but before Nebra's attack, she's overcome by both lust and envy due to the fact that Kurumi is Maria's "toy"... er "special friend", and uses magic to both shred Kurumi's clothes and pin her to the ground before sexually forcing herself despite Kurumi's protests. The only reason she stops is that Shella shows up and calls her daughter out for her actions at Basara's behest.

* WhatTheHellHero: In Volume 7, Shella gives a ''major'' one to Rukia and Ramsus for threatening Basara because the latter called Ramsus out on his plans to extract Mio's powers, although neither Rukia nor Ramsus took that to heart. Later, she lectures Rukia for attempting to rape Kurumi, as well as Basara for leaving Zest in a truly untenuous situation, until she's made aware that Basara himself has no objections to Zest becoming his servant, and was only waiting for informed consent from both his harem, and Zest herself, not to mention the next full moon.

* AndroclesLion: In the light novel, during volume 5, she feeds and pets a "unicorn pup," The Demon World's equivalent of a stray kitten. In volume 7, that same unicorn pup rescues her from being stepped on by the attacking "heroic spirits."

* AdaptationalBadass: In the anime, [[spoiler: Chaos]] gets sucked into her UnrealisticBlackHole as opposed to being killed by Basara's Banishing Shift.

* TerrifyingRescuer: In the anime version, he [[spoiler: explodes the real Sakazaki as the man was preparing to rape Rikka.]]

* AdaptationalWimp: In the original light novel, Nanao wipes the floor with Basara, and Basara exposes his neck in a KillMeNowOrForeverStayYourHand way to prove his innocence. The anime version, on the other hand, has Nanao ''slightly'' weaker than Basara when the two initially blamed each other for the sabotage of the sports festival orchestrated by Sakazaki, and Basara was able to curb-stomp Nanao. In either case, Nanao was clearly no match for [[spoiler: Ornis]].

* AdaptationalHeroism: Rukia is much more sympathetic in the anime than her counterpart in the light novel. Most notably, she has a larger role in the fight with Nebra and Gald's "heroic spirits."
* AttemptedRape: In the early parts of Volume 7, after Zest joins Basara's harem, but before Nebra's attack, she's overcome by both lust and envy due to the fact that Kurumi is Maria's "toy"... er "special friend", and uses magic to both shred Kurumi's clothes and pin her to the ground before sexually forcing herself, ignoring Kurumi's protests. The only reason she stops is that Shella shows up, at the behest of Basara who is under house arrest for ''complaining about Ramsus's intentions of harming Mio.''

* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Almost to the point of MoralMyopia. She sees nothing wrong with helping Ramsus go along with his measures to extract Mio's demon power. However, when Basara merely ''complains'' about the situation, she threatens Basara for "insulting" her master. [[WhatTheHellHero Shella calls her out on this afterwards]].

* AdaptationalHeroism: While Ramsus isn't a villain by a long shot, the anime version has him pull a BigDamnHeroes moment to help save the demon realm from Nebra's attack instead of Jin.

* TheNeedsOfTheMany: Ramsus rationalizes that he plans to extract Mio's for the sake of the demon realm's peace despite her being an ally to Basara. After seeing Mio take to the front lines and risk herself for the people, he changes his opinion.

* MamaBear: She's protective of her daughters.

* WhatTheHellHero: In Volume 7, Shella chews out Rukia and Ramsus for threatening Basara because the latter called Ramsus out on his plans to extract Mio's powers, although neither Rukia nor Ramsus took that to heart. Later, she lectures Rukia for attempting to rape Kurumi, as well as Basara for leaving Zest in a truly untenuous situation, until she's made aware that Basara himself has no objections to Zest becoming his servant, and was only waiting for informed consent from both his harem, and Zest herself, not to mention the next full moon.

* AdaptationalHeroism: The anime makes her a substantially more sympathetic character than the light novel by both removing or downplaying her more objectionable actions like attempting to rape Kurumi, and threatening Basara for calling Ramsus out on the latter's treatment of Mio, as well as increasing her positive actions, like giving her a considerably bigger role in the fight with Nebra and Gald's "heroic spirits."
