* OhCrap: This bastard thinks he has a chance against Cid. That is until he finds the corpses of all his men and he starts wetting himself.

At first, he was pretty fair and decent compared to the more basic therianthropes but after the Cult of Diabolos corrupted him, his therianthrope nature was brought out multiple times fold, turning him into a violent asshole with a dog-eat-dog mindset. This and his misplaced pride caused him to lose his fiancée who became his enemy and received a painful death at John Smith's hands.

* AdaptationalKarma: Downplayed; In the web novel, the public never knew about his crimes with them knowing what happened to him [[spoiler:since Cid kidnapped him in the confusion and turned him into a test subject before killing him]]. The light novel has his crimes exposed by [[spoiler:a message left by King Oriano before his mind broke]], which caused the entire populace to turn against him and restore Rose's reputation. [[spoiler:Rose then faces off against him in combat and completely overwhelms him.]]

* ArchEnemy: Towards his fiancé, Rose Oriana, due to being the member of the cult assigned to take over Oriana with him turning Rose's father into an EmptyShell the cult can control so that they can start a war against Midgar by using their puppet to kill its king. [[spoiler:This forces Rose to MercyKill her father and join Shadow Garden afterward with her facing off against him on their wedding day.]]

* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation: In the web novel, he's killed by Cid via MindRape lobotomy as part an experiment to "cure the brain-dead". In the light novel, he's beheaded by Mordred for his failures.
* FailedASpotCheck: While he kept the box containing the ring on him at all times, he did not actually check its ''contents'' until the wedding day. Naturally, he panicked upon the discovery that it was stolen.

He even thinks that the Cult Of Diablos isn't as powerful as they think it is and are delusional to think they still have a firm grip of the world.]]

* CosmopolitanCouncil: The leaders of the cult, the Knights of Rounds, are comprised of twelve individuals. This is relevant as their concoction for immortality can only be produced in twelve. So far, only four of them have been introduced, Nelson (9th), Modred (11th), Fenrir (5th) and Petos (10th), [[spoiler: in which the first three were slain by Shadow [[NoodleIncident while also killing the former tenth seat that it got Petos promoted]]. The others who shared the same fate are either powerful enough to become one (Zenon Griffey), a former member of the twelve (Lutheran Barnett), and one who's been promised a promotion by a member of the Rounds (Perv Asshat).]]

* TakeOverTheWorld: Their other primary goal aside from [[ImmortalitySeeker immortality and power]], and they'll commit any atrocity to achieve it.

* StarterVillain: Unlike the other Rounds, Nelson lacks true abilities to truly make him threatening in combat against Shadow Garden and is the first active member of Rounds shown in the present day.

* CombatPragmatist: The biggest reason he was able to defeat Epsilon was because his surprise attack gave her a deep cut.

* InvisibleMeansUndodgeable: Both on the attacking and the receiving end of it. After managing to acquire [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin The Invisible Blade]], a long lost elven artifact, his attacks are this unless if you are aware of his weapon itself or have the instincts to even dodge it. Unfortunately, his opponents are elves named Beta and Epsilon who, not only have both but the latter is even capable of throwing out invisible attacks too. The only reason he survives is they meant to spare him until they can pry out more information from him.
* IronicEcho: He insults Beta and Epsilon by calling them small-timers when he summoned Ragnarok of the Fourth Realm. When Shadow bisected its wing, Mordred praises Shadow only for the latter to return the small-timer insult towards him, earning his ire.

* FrameUp: It's implied Gray intended to pin the Night Swords' deaths onto Christina Hope, given the numerous times he throws suspicions onto her. [[spoiler:Although by the end, it seems he has given it up after all the Night Swords had been killed, most likely due to him having witnessed what Jack/Shadow did at Count White's mansion and didn't want to be the next target.]]

* LastRequest: Finally admitting he still deeply loves her despite everything, Gettan tells John to take care of Yukime in his dying breath. Alas, this would never be fulfilled as not only John Smith's relationship with Yukime is strictly professional on his side but he also completely misinterpreted his request as Gettan burying the stolen gold coins in the snow[[note]]Yukime means "snow" in Japanese and John thought he was pointing to a patch of it next to her[[/note]] or next to some Yew trees[[note]]The light novel's English translation has Gettan only managing to say "Yu..." before John cuts him off[[/note]] and had spent a long time digging up imaginary treasure before giving up.

* FrameUp: It's implied Gray intended to pin the Night Swords' deaths onto Christina Hope, given the numerous times he throws suspicions onto her. Special mention to Zeta, who's tribe got exterminated just for her.]]

* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: Thanks to [[SpannerInTheWorks Shadow]], the cult is now suffering centuries' worth of punishments caused by their atrocities.

* OrganizationWithUnlimitedFunding: {{Averted}}; In Volume 5, it is revealed that due to the actions of [[spoiler: John Smith and Yukime, they are scraping the barrel for funding and can only afford to send 2nd & 3rd children to support the Fenrir faction to activate the Diabolos arm under the school sanctuary.]]

* TemptingFate: [[spoiler:When Petos informed him the dwindling production of the Tears of Diabolos will soon decrease from nine to eight, Fenrir jokingly claims he's glad Shadow Garden has been killing them off so they don't have to worry about the short supply. He didn't bet that he'll be next on their hit list after Shadow [[HoistByHisOwnPetard ripped him limb from limb with his own move]]]].

* WhamLine: In a conversation with Fenrir, he was the one to reveal [[spoiler:the yearly production of Diabolos' tears, the Knights of Rounds' highly sought-after immortality pills, has drastically reduced from twelve to nine and soon to be eight. This would explain the cult's increasing desperation to retrieve Diabolos' parts and why the twelfth seat is currently unoccupied all this time.]]

* DidntThinkThisThrough: When Yukime's mother rejected his proposal to have their tribes take the red pills to defeat the invaders, he killed her in a fit of rage, which just ensured the destruction of their tribes due to the loss of the strongest foxkin.

* TheIllegible: His handwriting is anything but elegant which is expected from being blind but that didn't stop him from writing his last will and testament towards Yukime filled with repentance over what he did to her and her village and the Cult of Diabolos is the one who coaxed him into doing the misdeed.

* LeaveNoWitnesses: Dark Spider was sent by the Cult to assist the revival of the Diabolos Arm underneath and was actually noticed by a student. He tries to kill said student to no avail since said student is [[WorldsStrongestMan Cid/Shadow]].

* ZergRush: In the anime, his only tactic is to make clones of himself to wear Shadow Garden out, which fails due to their numbers along with Nelson's own lack of physical fitness after centuries of complacent.

The eleventh seat of the Knights of Rounds who posed as the acting archbishop of the Holy Church.

* DirtyCoward: He is by far the most pathetic out of his fellow cult members as years of complacency has rendered him too useless to be ever able to participate in a fight.
* DirtyOldMan: When Natsume-sensei (Beta in disguise) asks questions about Aurora, Nelson took an opportunity to ogle at her chest.
* FatBastard: He's is quite obese and has experimented on countless children with most leading to gruesome mutations and eventual death.

* ArchEnemy: To [[spoiler: Zeta. Fenrir notes that Petos [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness acted unusually]] when he mentioned on [[NoodleIncident encountering a golden beastkin from the Shadow Garden]].]]

* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: He notes that the cult wouldn't have to deal with Shadow Garden in the present if they actually put the effort in annihilating them five years earlier.

* BrokenPedestal: Once his crimes were exposed, the students that followed him left his class.

* {{Irony}}: Unlike other members of the cult, his mission's target is not Shadow Garden, but rather Mitsugoshi, which unbeknownst to him and possibly the cult is their public font. Yet his plan to circulate counterfeits could have succeeded at severely crippling if not outright defeating Shadow Garden if Cid didn't start making counterfeits before he even had the chance to start.

It's not until Shadow Garden creates a corporate front using Cid's knowledge from Earth, that new innovation begins to spread around the world.

* MadScientist: He was one of the original researchers that studied Diablos long ago.

* BlackMail: {{Implied}}. Fenrir plans to use his knowledge about Zeta as a bargaining chip towards Petos when he notices that Petos [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness acted unusually]] at the mention of a golden colored beastkin operative of the Shadow Garden.

* GracefulLoser: Takes his death at the hands of Shadow in stride, having finally seen the pinnacle of ultimate strength in the thousands of years of his lifetime. Even after Shadow told him everything he believed in was pathetic and short-sighted at best, he accepts the notion and wistfully thought about going down a different path before dying.

* HannibalLecture: Aside from [[IShallTauntYou being good at riling up opponents with a few choice words]], Fenrir is also able to leave them speechless or BreakThemByTalking. [[spoiler: When Fenrir introduces himself to Claire and Alexia, he mocks Claire for even threatening to punish him by either by the knights or Claire herself. He later stumps Alexia when she mentioned Shadow Garden, mocking said princess and calling her pathetic for even considering a random group of strangers to stop them. Fenrir even mentions that the [[NotSoDifferentRemark Shadow Garden itself is an underworld dweller like them]].]]

* TheScapegoat: Due to the instigation of [[TheRival Loki]], Fenrir is usually blamed by the Cult's leadership on the massive crisis they face against the Shadow Garden and is unanimously agreed to be not given a drop of the Tears of Diablos once produced much to Fenrir's chagrin. Fenrir even laments that it is [[WeHaveBecomeComplacent due to the cult's complacency]] that made this problem grew larger than it should be had they dealt with it five years ago.

* TheGhost: We only learned of Hela and Jormungand through the ''Master of Garden'' gacha game but both have yet to appear in the main series.

* EvilCripple: He was a former member of the Rounds and when he could no longer able to do it anymore due to an illness, he tries to use various illegal methods to get back.

* AdaptationalSexuality: In the web novel, Perv is a closeted gay man who was also secretly a masochist (hence the PunnyName). In the light novel, [[spoiler:Perv is a sadist who is in a secret adulterous (and heterosexual) relationship with Rose's mother, the Queen of Oriana, thus making his name ironic rather than [[PunnyName punny]]]].

* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Unlike his pride-filled fellows, Perv has the common sense to give up on endeavors if they prove too much to handle. In Volume 2, he rather flee back to the Oriana Kingdom and get chewed out by Mordred rather than stay at Midgar to find Rose and be killed by Shadow.

* ThisCannotBe: He could not contain his disbelief that Victoria who singlehandedly mowed down all forty of his men consisting of first and second named children was neither a Seven Shade nor a high-ranking number but a newbie triple-digit number. He holds similar astonishment when he, the [[InformedAbility so-called]] [[SuperSpeed Raging Gale]], had no time to react to Shadow [[AndShowItToYou ripping out his heart]] at near lightspeed.

* FantasticRankingSystem: They have three classes for the Children they train with the Thirds being the weaklings that failed to graduate and are considered disposable by the cult. The small percentage that do manage to graduate are the Second Children, who are mentally stable. And the First Children are amongst the strongest of their organization, but still weaker than the rounds. Named Children are the EliteMooks of the cult, who made significant contributions and are tasked with leading operations under the command of the Rounds.

* SocialClimber: The twelfth seat is currently vacant which leads eager opportunists, such as Zenon Griffey and Perv Asshat, to do whatever dirty, inhumane or homicidal deed it takes for such power and immortality. However, it's implied the Knights of Rounds left the seat open to entice others into doing their dirty work and ensuring their allegiance to the cult without the intention of ever fulfilling the position.

* VillainForgotToLevelGrind: The Diablos Cult has ruled the world unopposed for so long, they've grown complacent and fail to innovate. In many cases the failure to innovate is purposefully done to maintain MedievalStasis. Then Shadow Garden appears to challenge them. In their hubris they ignore and dismiss the threat, allowing Shadow Garden to rapidly amass greater wealth and power, until Shadow Garden surpassed the Cult in overall might.

* TheRival: Loki is in a ceaseless faction war with Fenrir due to the former blaming all their shortcomings from Shadow Garden onto the latter as TheScapegoat until Fenrir's death.
