Hoid has been explictly stated in the books to have been a Dawnshard, so there's no need to specify Word of God when talking about his status as one.

** It's been confirmed in several places (including [[WordOfGod Word of Brandon]], that he was part of the Shattering conspiracy, only to end up changing his mind and refusing a Shard at the last moment.

* AscendedExtra: While he wasn't really an "extra" per se, he didn't have an extremely large amount of involvement in events in books before ''Literature/TheStormlightArchive''. In that series, he is becoming an increasingly major character, with his knowledge of the Cosmere taking the forefront, and people actively seeking him out. [[spoiler:He's also the FirstPersonPeripheralNarrator of Secret Projects #1 and #3]].

** The most dramatic instance of this from him so far is [[spoiler:at the end of ''Literature/RhythmOfWar'' when Taravangian realizes that he messed up his DeadPersonImpersonation of Rayse during his meeting with Hoid, and is able to '''''sucessfully''' wipe Hoid's memories of the whole meeting'', before redoing it. This is notably done from Hoid's perspective, with the chapter even repeating text on the second meeting, while Hoid is none the wiser, to gain maximum DramaticIrony from the incident.]]

* OhCrap: He has a brief moment of horror when he realizes that Odium is no longer held by Rayse, that he has revealed himself to him, and that Odium can alter his external memories (stored as Breaths) without technically harming him and breaking their agreements. The moment is brief because Odium [[LaserGuidedAmnesia then does just that, leaving him with no clue that anything is wrong and warping any number of his other memories to boot.]]

* SealedEvilInADuel: This is roughly how Preservation was able to "imprison" Ruin. Ruin is technically free to go anywhere, but any time he tries to use his powers in any but the most subtle ways, Preservation's power acts to block him.

* OurGodsAreDifferent: Someone holding one of their Shards is nigh-omnipotent and practically omniscient, being capable of moving planets at a whim, reviving entire species, and remaining aware of nearly everything on their planet. And that's with ''one-sixteenth'' of their power. We have no idea what the upper limits of their powers were.

* OurGodsAreDifferent: Someone holding one of their Shards is nigh-omnipotent and practically omniscient, being capable of moving and completely rebuilding planets at a whim, reviving entire species, and remaining aware of nearly everything on their planet. And that's with ''one-sixteenth'' of their power. We have no idea what the upper limits of their powers were.

Added DiffLines:

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Relatively common with Shardvessels, as a result of their Intent eventually ruling ''everything'' about their decisions:
** Autonomy values just that, but specifically ''her'' autonomy, with little regard for anyone else's.
** Preservation is repeatedly stated to run the risk of being just as dangerous as Ruin if possible, as Preservation's vision of perfection is something static and unchanging. Innocent life, growth, and death do not necessarily factor into this.
** Ruin, as a result of his shard's Intent being transposed onto a kind and generous man, sees the destruction he wreaks as a gift.
** Harmony, who holds ''both'', has great trouble acting at all.

Added DiffLines:

* TheSocialDarwinist: Bavadin believes heavily in competition for power, often imposes her will on places she believe she needs to, need defined exclusively by her, and has no respect for those who fail her standards of "deserving" their own Autonomy. It should be noted that this is not just empty rhetoric, if someone actually does live up to her standards, she can display genuine respect for them, and will even leave them alone. For a time.

Added DiffLines:

* VillainRespect: For how much her [[TheSocialDarwinist social darwinist]] tendencies are a justification for her own imperialistic expansion, she ''does'' have respect for the people who live up to her standards. In ''Literature/TheLostMetal'' when Wax asks what will get her to leave Scadrial alone, her response is a simple "Prove you deserve it". When they do, Bavadin releases the power she had building up around the planet, with it respect notably eminating from it, albeit a begrudging respect.

Man Of A Thousand Voices refers to voice actors, not aliases.

* ManOfAThousandVoices[=/=]TwoAliasesOneCharacter: In-universe - there are entire pantheons where every single deity is actually Bavadin.
