The anime instead has him and his forces at the village, with his superiors revealing it was a XanatosGambit to draw out Hyland into attacking. However the PlayedWith aspect is that Heldalf seems to not agree with the plan and merely followed the orders given.]]

* TenMinuteRetirement: After an argument with Sorey, he Temporarily leaves the party when Sorey and Lailah explore the Vivia Subterranean Aqueduct of Ladylake.

** He's also got some similarities to the various incarnations of [[VideoGame/TheLegendofZelda Link]]. He grew up as the only human in a village of spirits (Ocarina of Time), he's the successor to a line of heroes, it's been a while since the last hero showed up (Wind Waker), and he has a mystical sword with a spirit tied to it (Skyward Sword).

Alisha actively tries her hardest to help her country but because all the power lies in the hands of Bartlow and his cohorts, however, Alisha valued being a knight over her duties as a princess and as a direct result of that she became ineffective politically. However, Alisha was enthralled with the stories of knighthood honor and chivalry that she actively neglected her own position as princess [[RebelliousPrincess in order to live out that fantasy]]. We find out later on [[spoiler: during the confrontation with Maltran where she reveals that she rose Alisha this way to make it easy to manipulate her. Maltran forcing Alisha to kill and telling Alisha ThisIsReality to make Alisha realize that in order to help her people she needed stop trying to live out her fantasy, and to remember her role as the princess of Hyland to stop running away from it. It is only by doing this that she became effective politically.]]

* RebelliousPrincess: The reason why Alisha values being a knight so much is because she dislikes the responsibilities that come with her role as the princess.

* FreudianExcuse: Surprisingly {{Averted}}. It isn't a single moment or event that made Heldalf the monster he is now but rather a slow and even worse series of events ranging from [[spoiler:his family being murdered]], to him [[spoiler: being unable to kill himself]] that shaped him into hating the world.

* SmallRoleBigImpact: Alisha was a GuestStarPartyMember who left only a quarter into the game and was largely only relegated to small side appearances. However Alisha did one thing absolutely vital to the games story: she went to Elysia and encountered Sorey. Without that meeting Sorey would never have become the Shepherd.

Besides her unfortunate GuestStarPartyMember status, right after birth, she is continuously looked down upon for being a half-noble due to her mother's side, is constantly being used by her own kingdom's skewed diplomacy tactics that she herself willingly walks into in an effort to turn it back against them only to backfire most of the time, her low resonance to seraphim as a Squire [[spoiler:cripples Sorey and nearly makes him go completely blind to prevent a blow that hurt Alisha greatly]], her [[spoiler:own superior Maltran is a massive ManipulativeBastard who raised her with positive ideals in an effort to control her from the background and stir malevolence in the name of the Lord of Calamity only for then being defeated and using her pupil's spear to make it look like Alisha killed her while still telling Alisha how much she sucks at her job]], and Rose just enjoys giving her the cold shoulder in the DLC scenario. [[BreakTheCutie It's like this story is meant to heavily undermine her in every turn. Holy crap indeed]].

* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: {{Decontructed}}She's a princess, but she also goes about helping people as a knight, however, as a knight she's by and large ineffectual in actually helping her people. It is only by putting aside her knighthood and focusing on being a princess that she could actually make a difference.

* AdaptationalBadass: Unlike the game, in the anime he can [[spoiler:purify a ''dragon'']], albeit such process is pretty tiring. The penultimate episode takes it UpToEleven where he [[spoiler:armatizes with ''all four Seraphim at once!'']].

* AllLovingHero: Even when someone starts off an enemy, Sorey will do everything in his power to help them or save them. Once he becomes the Shepherd and gains the power to purify Hellions it's clear he wants to use it to save them. He even states his desire for humans and Seraphim to live together. [[spoiler:Taken UpToEleven when he still feels compassion for Heldalf, who not only orchestrated the current war but personally antagonized Sorey by attacking Elysia and forcing him and Mikleo to kill Zenrus.]]

* ChronicHeroSyndrome: His job as a Shepherd gives him this idea, though many choices at the beginning would've been seen as nothing more than scary acts of magic that could've given him too many expectations from the people (especially people of one kingdom) that would've eventually crushed him down. In the end, he resolves himself into falling to this because he likes it.

* PowerAtAPrice: The anime elaborates more on the benefits and consequences of becoming a Squire to the Shepherd. While a Squire may be able to see and combat malevolence, [[spoiler:should the Shepherd die, all Squires die with them]]. Having more Squires can be beneficial to the Shepherd when purifying malevolence, though the risk of the Shepherd and Squire dying is there if they are still overdosed.

* AdaptationExpansion: The anime greatly extends her overall importance.

Additionally, as a Prime Lord, she can keep the other Seraphs that have made a pact with her in check if they get out of line. [[spoiler: Dezel had to cut himself off so she couldn't bind him when he tries to kill Symmone]].

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Twice. First time, [[spoiler: he wishes to remain with Rose and the Windriders, and ends up losing his best friend; his sight; and eventually his clear memories of the event due to his single minded urge for revenge.]] Second time, [[spoiler: he gets his wish of finally running into Symmone and the chance to enact revenge, but it turns out she genuinely did nothing but rub salt in his wounds over what his wish had caused, and their meeting ends with Rose nearly becoming a Hellion and Dezel dying to save her]].

* HeroesLoveDogs: He could certainly give [[TalesOfSymphonia Colette]] a run for her money.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: A double whammy. [[spoiler: His off hand wish and desire to stay with Rose and the Windriders ended up causing the birth of a Hellion that pinned a murder on the Windriders' leader, attacked Rose, killed his friend.]] Following this, Dezel's desire for revenge leads to him [[spoiler: taking control of Rose's body to attack Symmone later in the game, leading to them both getting stabbed, Rose on the brink of becoming a Hellion and [[HeroicSacrifice him using the last of his power to free Rose from malevolence at the cost of his life.]]]]

* ShootTheHostage: At one point, Rose holds Symone at knife point in an attempt to get him to back off and stop attacking the party. He responds by simply blasting the both of them with a torrent of water.

He is a pivotal driving force of Sorey's character development and they have been repeatedly teased by Lailah and their Seraphim companions about their incredibly close relationship.
