While this briefly works, it requires Gus to keeps his ears completely still. This, which, he struggles to do as he finds the market to be a massive [[SensoryOverload sensory overload]].

While he's still rough around the edges and his backstory is kept intact, unlike in the comic, where Jepperd betrays Gus to the Last Men with the promise of seeing his wife again, he gets shot by them instead, preventing him from stopping their kidnapping of Gus. He also warms up to Gus and becomes a father figure to him far quicker compared to the comic.
