* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Like Squigly, she was dropped from the initial roster because of the dev team's need for villains in the storyline.
** And after that she was going to be the second DLC character after Squigly before being shoved aside in favor of Big Band. Then she was passed over in the community votes for the fourth and fifth characters.

* WordOfGay: Inverted; [[IncompatibleOrientation in contrast to her roommate Feng]], Cerebella is officially stated to be straight (Sorry, yuri shippers).

In order to secure the money to release the character, the developers started a crowdsourced fundraising campaign on Indiegogo. The amount of money they needed to release Squigly was raised ''in one day''.

* TrollingCreator: Her [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX0KAPqkBV8 joke story mode]] is basically proof that Lab Zero is this. She breaks the fourth wall and tells the player that they're going to have to wait for [[AscendedMeme two weeks]] before they get to go through her ''actual'' story. Then Marie comes along and goes on to get angry at her, [[AudienceSurrogate just like the player might at this point.]] The player then has to fight Marie...and it's always on [[HarderThanHard Nightmare Difficulty]]...[[SerialEscalation and she has 300% health]]. If the player somehow wins, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhxLWdTgjDo it results in a very vague]] OnTheNext preview.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: She was dropped from the initial roster because of the dev team's need for villains in the storyline.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: Probably the biggest challenge the team is facing with Eliza is how to work her blood mechanic without jacking up the age rating to an M. The ESRB takes blood from getting hit by someone else much more seriously than if the blood was self-inflicted, like Ms. Fortune. Considering how gory and [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BmdnrODCQAANlAu.png:large Eliza's hitstun animations look]], it looks like they're trying to keep the age rating by presenting her mechanic as [[BloodyHilarious comical]] rather than serious.

* ShutUpHannibal: In Big Band's story, [[spoiler: the Skullheart says that [[AsLongAsThereIsEvil it will keep coming back even if it's destroyed]]. Big Band's response?

* DevelopmentGag: Much of her moveset is remnants from back in the alpha stage of development, where the only three characters were three versions of Filia: a rushdown version (the "proper" one), a zoner version (who would later become Peacock), and a grappler version (who would later become Cerebella). Her projectile move and command grabs were taken from the latter two.

** His standing medium punch produces a bugle, and hitting buttons while it's out not only extends the attack, but produces notes, allowing you to actually play songs while attacking your opponent.

** Likewise, his standing hard kick has him lunge forward, supporting himself with a musical stand. In other words, a Big Band, like a bicycle, is supported by [[spoiler:a kickstand]].

* TimeStandsStill: His level 5 super allows him to do this. By taking out the trumpet (his standing MP) and playing the Skullgirls theme tune, Big Band can stop time to allow for either a full trumpet solo for the fun of it or do loads upon loads of damage using his TUBATUBATUBATUBA move.

Ben Birdland has seen a lot in his time, including the worst of the Grand War -- but nothing was worse than what he saw as a beat cop in New Meridian. When he ran afoul of his crooked unit he was given a violent early retirement, and his broken body was left to spend the rest of its days in an iron lung. His good friend, Irvin does not betray him however.

* ShownTheirWork: Big Band's finger placement when playing the trumpet is true to life for each note.

Squigly's deceased father and the previous host of Levithan. When Squigly became a zombie he transferred Leviathan to Squigly, releasing her from the control from [[spoiler: his wife Selene,]] the Skullgirl from 14 years ago.

Squigly's deceased mother and [[spoiler: the Skullgirl that came before Queen Nancy, who also came before Marie.]] During her birthday party, Selene was given [[spoiler: the Skull Heart]] as a present from a mysterious stranger. [[spoiler: The stranger was actually Double, who had told the Medici family that the Contiellos had possessed the Heart. The Medici family attacked the part and killed the family, including Squigly. Surviving the initial assault, Selene wished on the Skull Heart to being her family back to life and became the Skullgirl.]]

* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Her face is less Animesque than the rest of the females in the cast. Probably because she's a bit older than most of them and would probably be more "beautiful" than "cute" at that age.

* RoseHairedSweetie: Subverted. Despite her pink hair she's said to be cold, cruel and controlling. However, she's not that way because she enjoys it and does care deeply about the other members of the Circus Troupe.
