* ActorAllusion: Not to one of Billie Lourd's previous roles, but rather to one of [[Creator/CarrieFisher her mother's]]. The earmuffs she's frequently seen wearing are meant to evoke [[Franchise/StarWars Princess Leia's iconic "cinnamon-bun" hairdo]]. This becomes blatant in the finale, where she adopts the actual hairdo during the Chanels' trial.

* AffablyEvil: She maybe the mastermind behind the Red Devil attacks, but from what we've seen her cheerful, quirky nature is her genuine personality. When she's not involved in revenge plots she's a pretty sweet person.

* {{Foil}}: Chad is several ways a foil to Chanel. Both possess similar personalities, are heads of their respective societies, and similar levels of influence on campus. However they have multiple differences. Chanel admits she doesn't truly have any friends, and often bullies and belittles her fellow Chanel's to keep them in line. Chad by contrast, genuinely does like the other members of the DDS to whom he is encouraging, compassionate and friendly. In turn he is very popular amongst them, to the point he is unbeatable in a campaign race, and Caulfield is happy to charge a serial killer to save him. Chanel is largely bigoted, Chad while hugely misogynist doesn't seem to posses any other prejudice (his best friend Boone is Gay, which he knows and excepts. He's likewise friends with Earl who is Black and British). Chanel is heavily implied to be the way she is through being abused herself (by her mother, by the former heads of Kappa), Chad by contrast is implied to be the way he is through be spoiled. These contrasts set two people who could otherwise be considered [[DistaffCounterpart Distaff Counterparts]] apart.

The main villain of the show, the identity is shared by several people who harbor a deep-sited hatred towards Kappa Kappa Tau and begin a killing spree wearing the university's school mascot costume...a Red Devil.

** Later episodes confirm she is one with her love of grizzly stories (such as Rasputin's murder), enjoyment scary stories, and all around interest in the murders. Given that she's one of the Red Devils, it makes perfect sense.

* LackOfEmpathy: Despite all the grizzly murders they commit, they show no remorse whatsoever at all for their victims that weren't {{Asshole Victim}}s.

* PlayingGertrude: Oliver Hudson is only 39, but he's playing the father of 21-year-old Skyler Samels. Justified as of Mommie Dearest, when it is revealed that Wes and Bethany/Mary had Grace while in college.

* YourSonAllAlong: A DNA test proves that he's the father of Boone, and likely also Hester

* FriendshipMoment: In "Pumpkin Patch", when she gets so fed with everyone not being considered with Zayday's disappearance, she ventures out to look for her herself (before being joined by Pete, Gigi, Denise, and Wes.

* TheAtoner: By "Black Friday" he's racked with guilt and shame at [[spoiler:being a murderer.]]

* ForcedIntoEvil: [[spoiler:Was forced to act as the third Red Devil by the other killers in exchange for both his and Grace's safety.]]

For example, she thinks that Hester's idea to grind up diamonds to look like sugar, and then give it to Chanel is absolutely genius.

* WhatTheHellHero: Gives almost ''everyone'' this when Chanel #1 convinces them to keep shut about [[spoiler: her killing Ms. Bean]] with a trip to Cancun on her father's jet.

* AbusiveParents: Her parents hate her guts. In "Thanksgiving" her family goes away on a holiday at Thanksgiving, without bothering to tell her. Its implied this has happened before. Then it is Taken UpToEleven in the first season finale where [[spoiler:they willingly collude with Hester to frame her as the Red Devil]].

* TheSociopath: Not confirmed, but she does display a disturbingly high [[ManipulativeBitch number]] [[ItsAllAboutMe of]] [[LackOfEmpathy signs]]. [[spoiler: Confirmed in the season finale. The judge calls her a sociopath before sentencing her and her minions to life in an insane asylum.]]

* BackStabbingTheAlphaBitch: This is her plan throughout the season. However her efforts don't work out so well, as Chanel is smarter than her. [[She succeeds in the finale though.]]
