* KickTheSonOfABitch: Zigzagged. Based on what the reader knows about Hazel at the time, Roan's betrayal and humiliation of her seems richly deserved. Later, though, we learn that Hazel's personality is a result of [[spoiler: Brain emotionally abusing her and isolating her from other people since she was very young]], which makes Roan's actions feel more like KickTheDog.

* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Christy Spelling is the only musician on the island who's an Expy of a real-life artist who wasn't already dead when the comic was made.

* MenInBlack: The Erasers, made up of humans living Underground whose job it is to keep TheMasquerade from being broken in the 'normal' world. They mostly run independently and are only called into direct action on the Committee's request after a majority vote.

* DesperatelySeekingAPurposeInLife: Just like Sam.

* TheFriendNooneLikes: His relationship to The Committee, who pretty much all despise him for his repeated flaunting of TheMasquerade.

* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: In a (probably non-canon) filler storyline, Rexford demands that historians rewrite the history of civilization to "add more dinosaurs."
** Lampshaded by Rexford himself during the final arc when he points out that repeated focus testing shows that dinosaurs invoke feelings of awe, delight and respect in humans. As long as they're not feathered.
