* Really700YearsOld: In his first appearance he claims to not have seen anyone in 500 years. Later episodes contradict this, as he was shown to be a child at the same time as Wario and Waluigi in "Mario Babies", so this statement may have simply been a ploy to get Mario and Luigi's sympathy.

* CompositeCharacter: Saiko is a mix of all of the girls from [[VideoGame/DokiDokiLiteratureClub the game]] her character originated from. She's got the hidden depression of Sayori, the tsundere behavior of Natsuki, the clinginess of Monika and the psychotic and obsessive behavior of Yuri.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: In the Waluigi Arc, her eyes briefly turn blue for dramatic effect every time she amps up her Meta Runner abilities. Later videos only have her do this when she uses her game-warp ability… or when Mario turns her into a weapon.

* ChekhovsHobby:

* SenselessSacrifice: [[spoiler:He willingly allowed Melony to end his life to stop Zero and save the universe. Too bad that only separated Niles and the actual [=SMG0=], allowing Niles to continue his schemes.]]

* BrokenPedestal: Initially, Melony came to accept Niles as a mentor figure after he offered to teach her how to control her deity powers until Niles eventually revealed his true colors to her. That pedestal was completely obliterated when Melony later learned that not only did Niles merge with SMG0 to become the Zero she knew, but she also realized that he forced her to kill Axol after possessing him.

* CharacterisationMarchesOn: His characterization in his debut episode, "Seaside Stupidity" is slightly different from his later appearances; his voice is lower pitched, he wasn't an {{Otaku}} yet, and he possessed two abilities that haven't been seen since: the ability to [[SuperNotDrowningSkills make people breathe underwater]], and the ability to sing while in pain.

* CuteButCacophonic: His singing is so bad, it causes [[EarthShatteringKaboom the Earth to explode!]] [[spoiler:The threat of being ForcedToWatch him play Roblox for ten hours in "The Mario Mafia" causes Bob (a traitor at the time) to confess everything.]]

* {{Flanderization}}: As of "High School Mario" the anime-obsessed weaboo side of his personality has become his primary and near-only character trait. This is sometimes reversed in cases where his naïveté is critical to the plot, such as ''IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT''.
* {{Foil}}: To Bob. Both are based on enemy mooks, both are among the few characters that use voice acting (even if Bob's voice is text-to-speech). Both are TheFriendNobodyLikes from the rest of the cast and are shown to be losers. The differences are that Fishy Boopkins is a WideEyedIdealist who's humble, doesn't really let the abuse get to him, and is a nice person; while Bob is cynical, [[SmallNameBigEgo has a huge ego]], cares deeply what other people think of him, and is a {{Jerkass}}.

** He refused to renew the antivirus on [=SMG3's=] USB Guardian Pod in the Genesis Arc, allowing Zero to escape.

* ArtEvolution: Her human form received a new, higher-quality model as of ''IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT''.

** Making fun of her small height[[note]] (she's 5’2”/158cm, by the way!)[[/note]]. [=SMG4=] ended up barbequed by her and Saiko, who had also been made fun of by the same guy for her overly tall height.

* BrieferThanTheyThink: Meggy's time in-series as an Inkling. She debuted July 15th 2017. Her permanent change into a human occurred on June 8th 2019.[[note]] Move all dates forward by one for Australia.[[/note]] That's 694 days inclusive, or one week shy of 23 months. For comparison, another milestone for her character – graduating college – happened ''four years'' after her tranformation, almost to the day.

* CantLiveWithThemCantLiveWithoutThem: Her rival Desti drove her crazy every chance she got, but after [[spoiler:her death]], she never stopped thinking about her. The trailer for ''Meggy's Destiny'' shows that she still looks fondly on their battles together.

* GogglesDoNothing: She's always wearing a pair of goggles, but they don't really do anything useful. In "Meggy Answers Your Questions" she reveals that she's never actually used them to protect her face and mostly wears them [[RuleOfCool to look cool]].

* TheNapoleon: Implied in "The Totally Legit Learning Show With [=SMG4=]" where [=SMG4=] sings about the words "short" and "tall", and demonstrates by mocking her height[[labelnote:*]] 5’2” or ~158cm[[/labelnote]]. This results in both her and Saiko torching him with flamethrowers.

[[spoiler:After the reveal that Oneshot Wren was the one who trapped everyone in a simulation, he constantly torments Meggy by repeatedly killing her and resetting the day for ''an entire month''. No one else is aware of this except for Tari, and by the time Tari managed to build a safe zone Meggy's so traumatized she is initially unable to trust anyone]].

* BreakoutCharacter: One of the most well-known examples in the series. Meggy proved so popular upon her debut that she quickly became a major character, as well as the most CharacterDevelopment out of the cast, becoming the first character that isn’t Mario or [=SMG4=] to be TheHero of a season, and even getting [[WebAnimation/SunsetParadise her own spin-off]]. Her new human design also allows her to do things for the channel that Mario himself can't legally do, like Q&A's, merchandise, and the aforementioned spin-off.

* CombatPragmatist: Isn't above {{Groin Attack}}s and {{Sneak Attack}}s – particularly in "Wild, Wild Mario".

* GrievousHarmWithABody: As noted above, she's the "body" during fights whenever Mario feels like it. He almost never uses anyone else.

** Beneath the mask of a cheerful, confident, and competitive young girl [[spoiler:is an insecure person who pushes herself to ridiculous lengths in order to prove her own self-worth, yet is terrified of losing sight of everything and everyone she holds dear.]]

* HugeSchoolgirl: Played with. Meggy is quite tall for a typical teenage Inkling. Taller than Mario, even.[[note]] At least she ''was'' before a 2022 animation shift either made her shorter or, more likely, Mario & Luigi taller compared to the rest of the cast.[[/note]] However, she is ''much'' shorter than the other human female characters, earning her the moniker "Smol Bean".

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: She graduates from Omnia Academy in "Grand Theft Mario", but we haven't seen her write her final thesis/assignment that lead to it.

* OutOfFocus: Intentionally invoked with the Genesis Arc as she leaves to star in [[WebAnimation/SunsetParadise her own series]] before the arc proper begins and only returns once her show has ended, about halfway through the arc. They even use Heavy-Squid (with Lizzie Freeman's voice) as a stand-in for the 10th Anniversary Special.

** In "Western Spaghetti", [[spoiler:when Tari explains to Meggy how she was able to improve her skills navigating the simulation, Meggy's response is to hug Tari and tearfully tell her how proud she is of her. This could also full under Tears Of Relief, since said skills pretty much saved Meggy from an eternity of ''being constantly killed by One-Shot Wren'']].

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Instant noodles. According to "New Year, New Mario", she's eaten nothing but them her whole life.

* TheHero: She ends up being the first ever character that isn’t [=SMG4=] or Mario to have this role in a season, specifically being the main protagonist of Season 9, thanks to her heavy influence over the season, appearing in almost every episode, and her status as the main protagonist of the season’s arc.

* OlderThanTheyLook: In a Q&A video from 2021, she claimed to be 19 and met Mario on her 15th birthday. This was confirmed a few months later in "Welcome to Mario Mart™" where we see her ID listing her date of birth. But, due to her small stature and youthful face, she could still easily pass for 16.

** She is also sometimes the blue to Mario's red, being the more grounded and sane of the two.

** Taking the internet away so she can't watch [[Franchise/{{Splatoon}} Splatfests]] anymore led to her, Tari, and Saiko [[AllBikersAreHellsAngels forming a gang and attacking anyone that comes near]] in "Mad Mario". * SignatureHeadgear: Her red beanie with headphones and goggles that she almost never takes off – she was ''never'' seen without it as an Inkling, and the only times she removes it as a human is if her hair is in a ponytail. It's an extremely important memento to her, to the point she explicitly says it contains part of her identity. No surprise then that when it's stolen, she [[SanitySlippage freaks out]] and [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge quickly and mercilessly hunts down the culprits]].
