In despair over losing Henning (and Helen refusing to believe his account of the murder), he wanders utterly wasted down the train-tracks at Slitu, seemingly not caring at all if the oncoming train flattens him. Luckily, he either dodges at the last minute or the train manages to brake in time (we don't see), but he's discovered passed-out next to the tracks by Helen and Sven.
