* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: [[spoiler: Inverted. If anything, Harry becomes ''more'' sane the more cybernetics his body takes on.]]

* BadAss - Although they appear less often then most villains, the group has undeniably powerful and up to the job.
* BiggerBad: Although Hazanko kicks a lot of ass, [[spoiler: his boss, the Tendo King is pretty much a physical god. And HIS boss is the Tempa Emperor is just a GOD! makes you wonder why they didn't just conquer the universe.]]

* InformedAbility: Tobigera's a member of the Anten Seven, Hazanko's elite group of assassins. [[spoiler: However, his first attempt at attacking Gene was purely for comic relief and portrayed him and completely ineffectual, and after that he's left to watch over the Geomancer once the Kei Pirates reach the Galactic Leyline and never gets a second chance to prove himself.]]
** He's also supposed to be a master of disguise, but never gets a chance to prove it. You'd think wearing an evil-looking mask all the time wouldn't do much to disguise you, though.

* VillainousCrush: [[spoiler: Hanmyo and Jim. Though neither of them knows who the other really is.]]
* WalkingArmory: [[spoiler:Leilong]] has a ''lot'' of weapons.

* BigBad: He is, [[SpotLightStealingSquad but those damn [=MacDougals=] keep on taking so much more screen time that you think they're the main villains of the show]].

* [[spoiler: TheStarScream]]: it was hinted that he was more powerful than the other leaders, [[spoiler: but his real goal is use the Galactic Leyline in order to overthrow the Tendo King and the Tempa Emperor.]]

* CompleteMonster: Not only [[spoiler: kills Harry [=MacDougal=]]] in a way that even Toonami had to not show it, he basically plays [[spoiler: [[HannibalLecture questions both Melfina and Gene about their purpose in a way that makes it out that he (Gene) was just using her and she was a just a tool to him]], and finally merges with his ship once he gets all the power he needs, causing his crew to dissolve (in the original but its LampShaded so much) and becomes an obviously AxCrazy, HighOctaneNightmareFuel Eldritch Abomination with OmnicidalManiac tendencies.]] Also he has no guilt about his men's deaths and killing everyone without remorse.

* CompleteMonster - They kill people without remorse and some are incredibly sadistic.

* EstrogenBrigadeBait: When he's out of his shirt.
** Gene qualifies as this out of his shirt, in his shirt, in his undies, pants, speedo... Gene pretty much induces Squee no matter what he wears.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He'll stick to a promise with a girl to find her past, but is rude to everyone except a lady isn't out to get him.

* GoodScarsEvilScars (Straddles the line a bit, considering only about half of them are covered by his shirt)

* DoAndroidsDream: Parodied. Gilliam is programmed with a mental block that makes him incapable of questioning or meditating on his existence or purpose -- so instead of contemplating his navel, he contemplates his ''inability'' to contemplate his navel. Meta.

* TheSmartGuy: When Jim isn't acting reckless like the rest of team, and he has accurate data on planet environment and pretty much every recorded data.

* ArtificialLimbs: Harry has a prosthetic arm, which seems to give him super-hacking abilities.

* EvilCounterpart: Both of them could qualify as inversions for Gene. Ron is a cool, calculating fighter who plans ahead, whereas Gene is hotheaded and prone to making stuff up as he goes along. Harry, his romantic rival, is very VERY open with his feelings for Melfina, agressivly pursuing her, while Gene keeps his feelings for her hidden to the point of seeming uncaring.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Ronald has a scar across the left side of his lip.

* SpacePirates- The Outlaws are more like Pirates then they are! They run like hell when they're in debt, they like getting rich quick there was EVEN 1 in episode 16 that was dressed like a pirate. The only reason they're called pirates at all is that they steal and kill whoever interferes with them.

* BiggerBad: Although Hazanko kicks a lot of ass, [[spoiler: his boss, the Tendo King is pretty much a physical god. And HIS boss is the Tempa Emperor is just a GOD! makes you wonder why they didn't just conquer the universe.]]

* ImprobableWeaponUser: Hanmyo being a master of "Space combat with cats." certainly invokes this trope. [[spoiler: Ultimately, it means she pilots a grappler ship with two detachable arms, each piloted by a super-intelligent cat.]]

How was he supposed to know that his number one fighter [[VillainousBSOD was having a midlife crisis about killing people and the guilt finally got to him enough to fake his death switch professions]].]]

* WorfBarrage: Pulls one off against Shimi [[spoiler: (LeiLong)]].

* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: The Ctarl Ctarl are were-cat-space-people.
