Nami however, is the ''first'' to take a stand for them, and her fervor in protecting Caesar Clown's young victims eventually inspires and awakens the dormant conscience of her friends. By the time the TimeSkip rolls around, she rarely acts like a jerk anymore (towards her friends, at least) unless they're asking for it.

** The fact that it's a defining characteristic of hers is played within her in-betweener. [[spoiler: Even after Arlong is dealt with, she's still just as greedy, justifying it by saying that she's now free to use her money as she pleases.]]

* GiverOfLameNames: It doesn't come up often, but she tends to simply name things after a characteristic. She named the camel and crab in Alabasta "Eyelashes" and "Pincers", respectively. When Oda was asked what the other Straw Hats would have named [[spoiler:Sanji's superhero persona]], Nami's choice was [[spoiler:"Cape"]]. * FormerBigot: Nami used to be a TragicBigot towards fishmen because they were heavily involved in her DarkAndTroubledPast. But after hearing the story of the slavery of fishmen from Hatchan and later, the story of Jimbei's late boss Fisher Tiger and late mermaid queen Otohime who fought for fish-men's rights in different ways, she has a change of heart and she renounces all of her hate towards fishmen, except for those who really did bad things.

* MoneyFetish: She's such a classic case that she's the current image for that page.
* MorphWeapon: [[spoiler: Due to Zeus' soul possessing the Sorcery Clima-tact and turning it into a Homie, the orange appendages of Nami's Clima-Tact can extend and transform into more offensive forms (such as a mace).]]

* BerserkButton: Nami is always fiery and certainly has things that at least mildly irritate her (messing with her money, acting like an idiot on the ship, so on), but there's one thing that makes her instantly go into full-on killing intent despite the risk to her own personal safety: hurting a child, as she herself was a victim of Arlong's abuse. Nami gets furious when she finds out that the children of Punk Hazard are being treated as lab rats, and the second that Ulti strikes Tama in front of Nami, not even Big Mom can react fast enough before Nami strikes Ulti down.

** When she reunites with Luffy and the others during Zou, she [[TheGlomp hugs him]] and then cries out of worry for Sanji, .

* ImpliedLoveInterest: While Eiichiro Oda did state there will not be any romance in the series, it's worth noting that the baby that Luffy is holding (in a, granted non-canon, page) that represents Oda's daughter looks like Nami.

* HowDoIShotWeb: When she first got her Clima-tact, she had no idea what it would do and wasted time having to do party tricks built into it by Usopp.

* GuileHeroine: To compensate for her lack of Devil Fruit powers (Robin, Brook, Chopper), [[{{Cyborg}} technological enhancements]] (Franky), and [[LightningBruiser monstrous physical/Haki skills]] (Luffy, Zoro, Sanji), her usual approach is the tactical one; when she first meets Luffy, she calls him [[HilariousInHindsight "Boss"]] to [[LetsYouAndHimFight get the guys chasing her off her tail]]. * ItWasAGift: The bracelet she always wears around her wrist was a gift given to her by her sister Nojiko. According to WordOfGod in an SBS, the scene where Nojiko gave it to her had to be cut due to lack of space. However it's included in ''Strong World'' during a flashback.

* CruelToBeKind: In the Arlong arc, she encounters a young boy who wants to kill Arlong to avenge his father. Realizing the boy doesn't stand a chance, she hits him with a staff, condescendingly tells him that Arlong doesn't have time for him and leaves him a stack of bills. Unfortunately, her point doesn't sink in until Nojiko stops the boy, explains Nami's intentions and [[QuitYourWhining tells the boy that she has no patience for those who would get themselves killed when Nami chooses to persist despite how painful things are]].

* CynicismCatalyst: The death of Belle-mère at the hands of Arlong caused Nami to hate pirates with a passion. She gets over it after Luffy defeats Arlong and becomes an actual pirate.

* DopeSlap: Or rather, "Dope Punch". She applied it liberally whenever her crewmates (usually [[IdiotHero Luffy]]) act very stupid. She mellows out on it after the TimeSkip, though.

* ForcedToWatch: She and Nojiko are forced to watch Arlong kill Belle-mère before their eyes.

* LittleMissConArtist: In ''Film: Z'', she takes advantage of that to trick some Marine soldiers into giving her info about Z.

* LovableRogue: While not a villain, Nami is known for being a thief, but she's still a lovable person.

* ThePowerOfTrust: After Arlong breaks the pact and reveals the location of her treasure to a Marine, Nami is in complete despair knowing that all of her hard work she did for years is gone and that the villagers are going to die fighting Arlong. With nowhere else to turn, she begs Luffy to help her, effectively placing the lives of her loved ones in his hands. Luffy responds by giving Nami his straw hat--entrusting her with his most valued treasure just as she did for him. Nami chooses to reciprocate this trust by arc's conclusion; at the climax, Arlong tells Nami that he'll spare her village if and only if [[JoinOrDie she decides to join him as his navigator]]. Although she initially panics, she remembers the trust that she and Luffy placed in each other and promptly turns down Arlong's offer.

* SecurityCling: She clings to Robin's leg after [[spoiler:Lilith sics Egghead's sea beasts on the Sunny]].

* StagedShooting: In Arlong Park, she pretends to kill Usopp by stabbing him in the chest. In reality, she stabbed herself in the hand while it was placed on him.

* StupidSexyFlanders: When fighting Kalifa, she muses about how sexy her enemy looks and happy she'd be to have Kalifa as a secretary, only to angrily remind herself that she's not a man.

* ThisIsUnforgivable: Used this on Sanji [[spoiler:to verbally wound him for being a FakeDefector in the Whole Cake Island arc]].

* UseYourHead: In episode 239, in the anime only, Nami escapes from a man holding her by headbutting him.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Inverted. During Wholecake Island, she's shocked to see a talking alligator. ''Luffy'' of all people points out that she really shouldn't be surprised by something like that at this point and reminds her that Chopper (a humanoid reindeer) and Carrot (a bunny mink) are with them.

* WingdingEyes: Whenever anything related to cash is mentioned.

* WoundedGazelleGambit: She pretends to be a starving young woman after coming upon a small ship of pirates at sea. She tells them that she'll give them some treasure if they can give her some water. When they come on the ship to steal it, they find that the chest is empty and look up to see Nami sailing off with ''their'' ship. Since this is the first time she's shown in the manga, it [[EstablishingCharacterMoment clues the audience into]] what [[GuileHero kind of character she'll be]].

* YouAreNotAlone: Upon learning Arlong backstabbed her and stole her fortune she would have used to buy her village's freedom, she starts crying and begs Luffy for help. He simply puts his hat on her head and moves Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp to attack Arlong for making her cry.

* YouKilledMyMother: Her hatred over Arlong is because the pirate murdered her foster mother, Belle-mère.

* SurroundedByIdiots: Nami is unendingly infuriated by her crewmates' reckless antics, and is quick to retaliate with
a punch to the head. Just before the crew entered the Grand Line, Oda was asked who had the highest and lowest IQ of all the characters introduced so far; he replied that Shanks's first mate, Benn Beckman, and Nami were the smartest (in that order), but he couldn't decide which characters were the dumbest because almost every other character is an idiot or a [[CloudCuckooLander space case]].
