The savage and powerful pirate crew led by Kaido, one of the Four Emperors. Befitting their name, most of their members have a wild, barbarian-like appearance and share their captain's violent and bloodthirsty attitude. They are currently occupying Wano Country after allying with shogun Kurozumi Orochi, having helped him take over the country and hunt down the remnants of the late daimyo Kozuki Oden's affiliates, and in exchange are allowed to use Wano as their base of operations and weapons factory.
The crew in total has about 20,000 members and using their connections in the Underworld, the Animal Kingdom Pirates have amassed a powerful army of over 500 Zoan Devil Fruit users, courtesy of their alliance with Warlord Donquixote Doflamingo and scientist Caesar Clown, who provided the crew with the artificial Zoan-type Devil Fruits known as [=SMILEs=]. They have also gained the allegiance of several powerful members of the Eleven Supernovas, namely X Drake, Basil Hawkins and Scratchman Apoo, and their crews. They are the main antagonists in the Zou Arc and one of the main antagonist groups in the Wano Country Arc.
After Luffy and the Straw Hats defeated both Donquixote Doflamingo and Caesar Clown, halting the production of [=SMILEs=], the Animal Kingdom Pirates have sworn revenge on them for hampering their operations. * DumbMuscle: A pretty consistent trait across Kaido's crew; while Drake and Hawkins are pretty sharp, most of the lower-ranking members are violent thugs who are dumb as bricks, and while Jack is clearly smarter than some of the absolute morons that Kaido has working for him, his pervasive StupidEvil tendencies and wildly impulsive nature don't help his case. King is also brighter than the average Headliner or anyone below that, but he also has some proven LeeroyJenkins tendencies that worked out solely due to sheer dumb luck. * StupidEvil: Like DumbMuscle, this is a common trait across the crew. While there certainly ''are'' intelligent, pragmatic members who don't regularly grab the VillainBall or engage in short-sighted, petty acts of violence and destruction, the average mook in Kaido's employ is a vicious bully with zero impulse control and awful judgment who will smash things up and start fights with people above their weight class just because. And given the actions of the Lead Performers, it seems that this is even present among the upper echelons of the crew as well (just [[DownplayedTrope not as badly]]).
* SuperpowerRussianRoulette: The powers given by the artificial [=SMILEs=] turn out to be this since, unlike genuine Devil Fruits, they are flawed and incomplete, their powers manifesting in completely random ways. Some, like Sheepshead or Speed, seem to have gotten lucky, getting functional powers while only giving them some animal features. Others, like Gazelleman, ended up getting animal abilities their bodies are not fully capable of handling, such as the stamina to run at high speeds. Then there's poor saps like Holdem and Dobon, who ended up a complete mess of a merge between human and animal forms. Furthermore, the fruits only have a 10% chance of granting one powers. The other 90% not only lose their ability to swim, but end up becoming {{Perpetual Smiler}}s known as "Pleasures".
* ThemeNaming: Many high-ranking members of the crew are named after cards or card games of some kind, with the Lead Performers being named after the three highest card ranks. Their rank are a nod to terms associated with Rakugo theater.
* UnskilledButStrong: The majority of the Devil Fruit users on the crew, including most of the higher-ups, are all Zoan users, and the general theme of the low-level pirates is that they are all physically strong but lacking in brains. There's almost no indication of any Beast Pirate besides Hawkins and Apoo (who started their own crews elsewhere before joining) having an special ability that is related to creative usage of their powers, or even the Tobi Roppo like a few members of Big Mom's crew - just raw force. They've also got the World's Strongest Creature as their captain, and Jack has a bounty only a little lower than Charlotte Katakuri's, who's got the highest bounty in Big Mom's crew after Big Mom herself.

His joyful side becomes less prominent as he gets angrier because of the lack of oshiruko.
* FearlessFool: Pressing his BerserkButton turns Queen into one of this. Such as when he throws away his sense and self-preservation to pick a fight with ''Big Mom'' after she asks where the o-shiruko, Queen's favorite food, is.
* GadgeteerGenius: An evil one. He's designed the plague bullets that his underling uses. His mechanical arm is likely his own creation as well.
* GeniusBruiser: He's a huge enough man in his human form, and his Zoan form is one of the largest in the series, but he's also very adept at creating weapons and other tech that serve the goals of the crew.
* {{Gonk}}: He's not a nice man to look at, it doesn't help he's massively obese. His personality isn't much better either.

* LaughablyEvil: In comparison to the other higher ups of an Emperor crew, the Animal Kingdom Pirates included, Queen is by far the most comedic, especially in contrast to fellow Lead Performers [[TheStoic King]] and [[NoNonsenseNemesis Jack]].
* LeeroyJenkins: Not to be upstaged by Jack, Queen sees no issue with going one on one with an Emperor when it comes to defend his stock of O-shiruko.

** Queen has a tendency to interject the literal English word "Excite" into his sentences which in Japanese is pronounced as "Ekisaito". This is a reference to his epithet, "the Plague", as the Japanese word for plague is pronounced as "Ekisai". The pun is generally lost when his dialogue is translated into English. The Viz translation though retains the pun somewhat with Queen saying phrases such as "I'm plagued with excitement!".
** The Japanese pun with the literal English word "Excite" and the Japanese word for plague (Ekisai) continues on with a creation of Queen's called "Excitement Bullets", specialized bullets that infect those shot with a contagious plague.
* MadeOfIron: [[spoiler: Takes a heavy beating from Big Mom, including getting thrown against a cliff, and manages to get back on his feet with a new plan within a few minutes.]]
* MadScientist: Of the Animal Kingdom Pirates. Queen delights in toying with technology, most commonly to create weapons and instruments of torture, like his plague bullets and bladed collars.

Eventually, Jack calls in a poison gas attack not because he was in any danger of being defeated, but because he was simply losing his patience. His reappearance in the present shows that it takes no less than an Admiral-level opponent to even injure him, and while he clearly received one hell of a beating and isn't in great shape, he is also not crippled by any means. The savage and powerful pirate crew led by Kaido, one of the Four Emperors. Befitting their name, most of their members have a wild, barbarian-like appearance and share their captain's violent and bloodthirsty attitude. They are currently occupying Wano Country after allying with shogun Kurozumi Orochi, having helped him take over the country and hunt down the remnants of the late daimyo Kozuki Oden's affiliates, and in exchange are allowed to use Wano as their base of operations and weapons factory.
The crew in total has about 20,000 members and using their connections in the Underworld, the Animal Kingdom Pirates have amassed a powerful army of over 500 Zoan Devil Fruit users, courtesy of their alliance with Warlord Donquixote Doflamingo and scientist Caesar Clown, who provided the crew with the artificial Zoan-type Devil Fruits known as [=SMILEs=]. They have also gained the allegiance of several powerful members of the Eleven Supernovas, namely X Drake, Basil Hawkins and Scratchman Apoo, and their crews. They are the main antagonists in the Zou Arc and one of the main antagonist groups in the Wano Country Arc.
After Luffy and the Straw Hats defeated both Donquixote Doflamingo and Caesar Clown, halting the production of [=SMILEs=], the Animal Kingdom Pirates have sworn revenge on them for hampering their operations. And given the actions of the Lead Performers, it seems that this is even present among the upper echelons of the crew as well (just [[DownplayedTrope not as badly]]).
* SuperpowerRussianRoulette: The powers given by the artificial [=SMILEs=] turn out to be this since, unlike genuine Devil Fruits, they are flawed and incomplete, their powers manifesting in completely random ways. Some, like Sheepshead or Speed, seem to have gotten lucky, getting functional powers while only giving them some animal features. Others, like Gazelleman, ended up getting animal abilities their bodies are not fully capable of handling, such as the stamina to run at high speeds. Then there's poor saps like Holdem and Dobon, who ended up a complete mess of a merge between human and animal forms. Furthermore, the fruits only have a 10% chance of granting one powers. The other 90% not only lose their ability to swim, but end up becoming {{Perpetual Smiler}}s known as "Pleasures".
* ThemeNaming: Many high-ranking members of the crew are named after cards or card games of some kind, with the Lead Performers being named after the three highest card ranks. Their rank are a nod to terms associated with Rakugo theater.

* MadeOfIron: Jack fights one-on-one for FIVE days straight against the two strongest warriors (and the rulers) of the Mink Tribe -- one of which Luffy himself praises for his strength-- who alternate every 12 hours to keep themselves fresh in their fight. Eventually, Jack calls in a poison gas attack not because he was in any danger of being defeated, but because he was simply losing his patience. His reappearance in the present shows that it takes no less than an Admiral-level opponent to even injure him, and while he clearly received one hell of a beating and isn't in great shape, he is also not crippled by any means.
