* AdaptationalContextChange: In the original source material, Rika offered Zoro some rice balls to keep him fed when the latter was tied up on a cross in a Marine yard for a month. Here, Rika offers them to Zoro before the pirate hunter was arrested by Marines. In addition to that, she adds chocolate on the rice balls instead of sugar.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: She has a minor role in the first episode, but Rika being bullied by Helmeppo is what causes Zoro to stand up against the terrible Marine eventually leading to a bar fight and his eventual arrest. The event is also what leads Luffy to have respect for Zoro for defending her and he frees him from captivity when they meet each other for the first time.

* RealMenEatMeat: In episode 5 when Garp is confronted by Koby about contacting Mihawk, his dinner seems to be large portions of beef. Zeff also managed to get on Garp's good side by offering him a free T-bone.

* WasTooHardOnHim: After Luffy stands up to him on Sanji's behalf, Zeff eases up on Sanji a little. As they cook the next day, Zeff simply points out anything Sanji's doing wrong instead of verbally beating him down, and follows him to help Zoro with his wounds with little convincing needed.

Actually, Abysm is fine. It is a poetic variation of abyss.

* CurbStompBattle: Despite actually holding back, Garp pretty much dominates the fight with Luffy, showing the abysm in strength existing between the two.[[note]]Abysm so deep that, in the manga, Luffy didn't reach the same league as Garp until 1000+ chapters later.[[/note]]

* BaitAndSwitch: Before fighting Zoro, Mihawk reaches for his sword, only to unclasp his necklace and unsheathe a tiny knife from it.

* ImplausibleFencingPowers: He can ''cut a big ship in half'' with a swing of his sword.

* ImplausibleFencingPowers: He can ''cut a big ship in half'' with a swing of his sword. And there's his fight with Zoro, where he effortless deflects Zoro's swords with just the tip of a knife and cuts them to ribbons with (seemingly) one swing of his {{BFS}}.

aenrfins was a ban-evading croga per this ATT.

* TheAce: Like his original counterpart, Mihawk is depicted as not only the best swordman in the world but one of the most powerful characters in the whole series. He is one of the few characters without a crew, as he is specifically powerful and skilled enough to survive on his own even on the Grand Line.

* ParryingBullets: He can easily cut bullets in mid-air, which he does when Don Krieg shoots at him for killing his army. Then Mihawk just kills the guy.

* StrongAndSkilled: Mihawk is known as the best swordman in the world for a reason, and we get to see more of his skill in this version, where he easily slash Don Krieg's entire army of pirates without getting a single scratch. He is also one of the most powerful characters in the whole series, and displays superhuman levels of physical prowess, such as slicing a ship apart, cutting bullets from a gun after it's been shot, and overwhelming Zoro (the best swordman in the East Blue) with nothing but a tiny knife.

* TheAce: Like his original counterpart, Garp is one of the most powerful characters in the whole series, and a hero among marines because of years of service and accomplishments under his belt. Garp shows his reputation is not quite without merit, as he easily beats up Luffy at the end of the season, even though Luffy has defeated the most dangerous pirates of the East Blue by then.

* StrongAndSkilled: Garp is one of the strongest marines there is, with years of training and experience to back up his terrifying power. And he doesn't even have a devil fruit, he just trained himself to that level. When he and Luffy finally fight, it's a completely one-sided match on Garp's favor, and the only Luffy and his crew aren't taken to the marine is because Garp decides to let them go.
