In fact he was once TheLeader of a clan of particularly arrogant Kung Fu guys, and [[ZeroPercentApprovalRating ended up leaving 'cause he was too arrogant]]. It should be said that he [[SmugSuper easily lives up to it in terms of power]].

* PsychopathicManchild: A Type C. He's incredibly powerful, the head of his clan, and the co-founder of the Hidden Leaf Village... is nothing but him throwing a temper-tantrum after eavesdropping on Hashirama and Tobirama Senju, in their own home, and hearing Tobirama express his opinion that the title of Hokage should be voted on by the Village Elders and Clan Heads instead of just being handed to Madara because Hashirama wants him to have it. Ironically, Madara probably could have been voted Hokage if he didn't have a history of behaving this way. He also treats his newfound power as host to the Ten-Tails as if he were a child with a new toy as well as when he's fighting Eighth Gate!Gai he started behave like a child asking him to show him the best of his ability. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Also, he is extremely cocky.]]

** Since his resurrection, Madara just kept on revealing one new ability after the other to NoSell everything they threw at him. Pitched to collide against a Rasen Shuriken? Activate the Rinnegan! Outnumbered five to one? Summon clones and have them use Susanoo! Faced with a barrage of elemental and disintegrating attacks? Summon a mountain busting Susanoo! The guy who summoned you got defeated? Break your contract and fight on with unlimited chakra! [[SerialEscalation And the list goes on...]]
** Once he is revived and no longer immortal, he retains somehow the ability to absorb chakra through his Senju cells and goes on to steal Hashirama's Senjutsu-enhanced HealingFactor. When he is crushed under a pyramid of sand enhanced by Shukaku he simply bursts out with Susanoo despite having no eyes! Getting crushed by nine Bijuu tail whips and losing an arm? Have White Zetsu return your right Rinnegan and give his own arm as a replacement! You're the one against nine Tailed Beasts? Suddenly appears ability Limbo which was created solely to catch the Tailed Beasts off guard so that Madara can easily defeat and seal them!

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: While he never managed to surpass Hashirama, it's revealed with his resurrection that Madara is this to basically the entire modern generation of Shinobi. He effortlessly takes on the 5 Kage, with the fight only lasting as long as it does due to limitations he placed on himself, such as not reusing certain techniques, and his desire to test the Kage for fun. Whereas Obito originally struggled to control the Juubi as its Container, Madara does so instantly ''and'' a more powerful version of the Juubi at that, since it had absorbed one half of Kurama. Obito also failed to defeat Naruto and Sasuke, but Madara puts both at the brink of death in a short span of time and they then needed to receive an EleventhHourSuperPower in order to combat him. The heroes don't even end up defeating him. He's just taken out of the picture due to Black Zetsu's betrayal, paving the way for Kaguya.

* BeyondTheImpossible: '''It's almost all he does!''' He dies of old age but thanks to Kabuto, he is revived at a younger age, he pulls out very large meteors out of thin air. He revives with his new body again despite dying of old age. He is able to terminate the contract with Edo Tensei, despite the fact that even the original creator this jutsu does not know how to do it. He summons a Susanoo with ''no eyes''. He even extracted the Bijuu in mere minutes despite the fact that previously was necessary 9 members of the Akatsuki and 3 days to extract at least one. He proceeds to casually turn himself into the Ten-Tails Jinchuuriki without even going through an AlmightyIdiot phase like Obito and also use Kamui as the ten tailed beast container despite the original wielder being incapable of doing such a thing.

* UsedToBeASweetKid: Judging from the flashback, he seemed to be a bit of a loner, but undeniably adorable and you wouldn't know this man would be one of the {{Big Bad|Duumvirate}}s just by looking at him.

* EvilLaugh: Once he regains his right Rinnegan eye, Madara muses about how he's about have fun, before erupting into laughter as he claims how he's able to [[BloodKnight "feel the fight"]]

** He's got the '''First Hokage's face''' ''on his chest''! In Past we get to see that he was able to live far beyond his supposed "death" at the Valley of the End by hooking himself up to a combination of the Gedo Mazo and what appears to be a gelatinous blob of the First Hokage's cells. This connection is represented by several pipe-like growths that protrude from his back and feed back into the statue.

* MoralityPet: Izuna. Izuna's death is what turned him into the man he is today.

* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain[=/=]HeManWomanHater: As if there weren't enough reasons to absolutely despise him in-universe, he's openly sexist and spends much of his fight with Tsunade bashing her.

* SinisterScythe: His weapon of choice, used as a cane in his old age.

* TragicVillain: While it isn't an excuse for his actions, Madara is no doubt the product of a ''lifetime'' filled with tragedy. By the age of ten, he had already lost ''four brothers'', resulting in his desperate dream for peace, which he shared with his best friend, Hashirama. However, he cherished last remaining brother, Izuna, more than anything, enough that he willingly turned his back on his friend and his dream, and continued the Uchiha-Senju feud to new heights. The casualties of this continued feud resulted in the death the brother he sought to protect. Then, after finally giving in and joining Hashirama in building Konoha, he was denied the post of the First Hokage and learned the truth about the Uchiha-Senju feud from the tablet in the Naka Shrine, which finally drove him over the deep end and into the Madara we all know and hate. [[spoiler:The fact that he was a pawn used to revive his distant ancestor is just icing on the cake]].

* UndyingLoyalty: Deconstructed. He was fanatical loyal to the Uchihas, to the point of stealing/asking for his brothers' eyes so he could face Hashirama in their War. This extended to also fanatically fighting for the Uchiha dignity to the point of being banished from his Clan and the Village that he helped create. Needless to say, [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge he didn't take the news well]].
** Should be noted that most of this comes from a proven UnreliableExpositor, so it could all be bunk.

* BatmanGambit: He took control of the Kurama and attacked Konoha to force Hashirama fight him, which would in turn allow him the perfect opportunity to get at his cells.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He wanted to create a world without chakra and also to be the sole owner of this chakra... well he has achieved what he wanted when Black Zetsu forcefully pumps in the chakra of those who were caught in the Infinite Tsukuyomi for the revival his creator Kaguya.

* BigBrotherInstinct: He threw away his friendship with Hashirama to protect his little brother. When he failed to do so, his guilt awakened special hate chakra in his brain that almost drove him crazy.

* ClippedWingAngel: Madara resurrecting himself brings him back at full power, but because he gave away his Rinnegan eyes before he died the eyes granted to him by Edo Tensei crumble into ash. [[HandicappedBadass Even while blind he still manages to repeal Hashirama, Sasuke, and Naruto]].
* CombatSadomasochist: Absolutely loves powerful opponents capable of putting a heavy dent in him and returning the favour. [[spoiler: [[UpToEleven Take up to eleven]] with his reactions throughout tanking Might Gai's 8th Gate techniques.]]

* DeadAllAlong: Downplayed; although he was dead by the start of the story, he lived long enough to have met both Nagato and Obito despite supposedly having died around 80 years previous.

* EvilerThanThou: The Nine-Tailed Fox, self-proclaimed hatred incarnate, calls Madara's chakra evil.

** A very subtle one regarding his actual role in the plot: [[spoiler: Namely, the fact that he was [[UnwittingPawn a puppet on the strings of Kaguya and Black Zetsu]]. His resurrection and how he raised to become the next Sage of the Six Paths and enact the Moon’s Eye Plan at first look like the carefully orchestrated scheme from a typical {{Chessmaster}} ManipulativeBastard... until you look at it closely and realize that it hinges on what at first seems like a complete accident: He never planned to come back through the Edo Tensei. If Kabuto had not found Madara’s corpse and resurrected him in order to blackmail Obito, Madara would have remained dead and his ambition would never have come to fruition, as Obito was planning to take the Moon’s Eye Plan for himself and never intended to bring back Madara in the first place. For such a manipulative Big Bad to enter the plot in such a coincidental way seems odd, [[ThereAreNoCoincidences hinting that his resurrection was actually arranged by somebody else.]]]]
** The first hint that there might be something suspicious about [[spoiler: his resurrection happens during Hashirama’s recollection of their final battle. After defeating Madara, Hashirama briefly catches the glimpse of something or someone in the periphery. He also states that he suspects someone resurrected Madara. While Madara survived the battle in the Valley of the End through his own means, it’s later revealed that the presence that Hashirama saw was the Black Zetsu, who was observing the battle all along and later played a crucial role in Madara coming back to life the second time.]]

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Almost everyone who has ever met and spoken to this man hates his guts. [[EvenEvilHasStandards Even Kurama]], the ''Nine-Tailed Fox'', a self-proclaimed "living mass of malevolence," can't stand him, and considering the shit he's had to put up with for the last few centuries, that says ''a lot'' about Madara Uchiha. [[hottip:*: Namely, that Madara's mind-control skill which he first used himself then taught Tobi to use, both on Kurama against Konoha, is '''responsible''' for most of the things Kurama has had to endure.]] Even Tobi, aka Obito Uchiha, his protege, сlearly despises him, and certainly hates after he learned that Madara is the one who arranged the events that led to Rin's death. The only people who can tolerate him are Senju Hashirama, who was once his best friend, and Izuna, his brother, though Madara did everything he could to hate Hashirama.
