->''"Ever been stabbed by a feather?"''

->''Deadly and precise, Xayah is a vastayan revolutionary waging a personal war to save her people. She uses her speed, guile, and razor-sharp feather blades to cut down anyone who stands in her way. Xayah fights alongside her partner and lover, Rakan, to protect their dwindling tribe, and restore their race to her vision of its former glory.''
\\
Xayah is a Marksman champion who scatters razor-sharp feather daggers across the field, using them to skewer through multiple enemies at once. She and Rakan are the first individual champions whose abilities specifically interact with one another.
* Her passive, ''[[FeatherFlechettes Clean Cuts]]'', enhances Xayah's next three basic attacks after using an ability, causing them to pierce through the main attack target, dealing reduced damage to other enemies they pass through and leaving a ''Feather'' on the ground at the end of their path. If Rakan is on her team, the pair gain access to a second passive, ''Lover's Leap'', allowing them to join the other's recall to return to base together.
* With her first ability, ''Double Daggers'', Xayah throws two feather blades in a target direction, damaging enemies they pass through and leaving two ''Feathers'' on the ground at the end of their path. Enemies hit beyond the first take reduced damage.
* Her second ability, ''Deadly Plumage'', surrounds Xayah in whirling feathers for a few seconds, increasing her attack speed and the damage of her basic attacks and granting her a short burst of movement speed after attacking an enemy champion. If Rakan is nearby when the ability is activated, he'll gain the same bonuses.
* Her third ability, ''Bladecaller'', recalls all ''Feathers'' that are currently on the ground from Xayah's other abilities to her, damaging enemies they pass through and briefly immobilizing those hit by at least three ''Feathers''.
* With her ultimate ability, ''[[FlechetteStorm Featherstorm]]'', Xayah leaps into the air, becoming briefly untargetable and immune to damage and crowd-control, and then throws a volley of feather blades in a cone in the target direction, damaging enemies in their path and leaving behind five ''Feathers'' on the ground at the end of their path.
\\
Xayah's alternate skins are [[CosmicEntity Cosmic Dusk Xayah]], Sweetheart Xayah, [[UsefulNotes/ProfessionalGaming SSG Xayah]], [[DarkMagicalGirl Star Guardian Xayah]], [[NatureSpirit Elderwood Xayah]], [[ThePhoenix Brave Phoenix Xayah]], [[GoldenSuperMode Prestige Brave Phoenix Xayah]], [[TarotMotifs Arcana Xayah]], Broken Covenant Xayah, and [[MagicalGirlWarrior Redeemed Star Guardian Xayah]].\\
\\
In season 3 of Teamfight Tactics, Xayah is a 1 cost Celestial Blademaster. With her ''Deadly Plumage'' ability, she creates a storm of blades, gaining bonus Attack Speed for 8 seconds. She was initially removed in season 4, but returns in the ''Festival of Beasts'' mid-set update as a Tier 4 Elderwood Executioner Keeper using her Elderwood Xayah skin. Her ability was changed to ''Featherstorm'', which makes Xayah untargetable as she leaps into the air, throwing a fan of daggers in a cone that deal physical damage to enemies hit. Xayah then recalls the daggers, each one dealing magic damage to enemies they strike. She was removed in season 5, returning in season 7 using her Brave Phoenix Xayah skin as a Tier 4 Ragewing Swiftshot. Her new ability, ''Feathers FLY!'' empowers her basic attacks for a few seconds, allowing them to target up to two additional enemies and leave feathers behind all her targets. Once the buff expires, Xayah recalls her feathers, each dealing physical damage to all enemies in their path. She was removed in season 8, returning in season 9's ''Horizonbound'' mid-set update using her base skin as a Tier 4 Ionia Vanquisher. Her ''Featherstrike'' ability launches several feathers that converge on and pierce through her current target, each dealing physical damage to all enemies they pass through and reducing the armor of the first enemy hit for the rest of the round. She was removed in season 10, returning in season 11 along with Rakan as a singular Tier 5 champion with the Dragonlord and Lovers origins, the latter being a unique trait that changes which of the two fights on the board as well as their class depending on the row they are placed in. When the fielded Lover casts their ability, their partner provides an additional effect from the sidelines. Xayah is deployed when placed on the back two rows, returning to her Brave Phoenix Xayah skin and bearing the Trickshot class. Her ability, ''Feathers Fly!'', has her throw many feathers at the four nearest enemies for physical damage before recalling them, each dealing further damage to enemies in their path. When supporting from the side, she casts ''Deadly Plumage'' whenever Rakan casts his ability, dealing bonus physical damage to all enemies hit by his spell.
----
* AntiFrustrationFeatures: Since ''Bladecaller'' can't be activated without at least one Feather on the ground, Xayah can't unlock it at level 1 to prevent her from having a "dead level" (similarly to Azir).
* AntiHero: Xayah is trying to restore wild magic and keep her people from going extinct, but she uses terror tactics and is indifferent to the deaths of any innocent humans who might be in the way.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Or Xayah really does love Rakan, as the trailer for season 3 of the Star Guardian skin line had many players feeling sympathy for Rakan as all of his attempts to assist Xayah went ignored. This comes into play, because even after the multiple scenes of her brushing Rakan off and shoving him away, Xayah still goes back to save him when the floor begins collapsing and he's too injured to escape on his own.
* BattleCouple: With Rakan, if they're on the same team and he's nearby. Rakan's ''Battle Dance'' can be cast from further away if he is dashing towards Xayah, while Xayah's ''Deadly Plumage'' is also applied to Rakan. Additionally, they can both recall together at the same time whenever one begins to channel the recall, and the other moves next to them and chooses to recall as well, leaving together with whoever began channeling first.
--> '''Xayah''': Ugh, I hate everyone today.\\
'''Rakan''': I know what'll make you feel better!\\
'''Together''': ''Murdering everyone~!''
* BloodKnight: She definitely loves fighting. She even has a taunt for ''[[AxCrazy Kled]]'' that's her just amusedly saying "I wanna travel the world with you!"
* BombThrowingAnarchists: Her rebellion is this in the end, as she relishes the idea of spreading chaos and returning the world back to when it and magic were still wild.
* CategoryTraitor: Xayah herself isn't called one, but she has voice lines where she calls enemy Vastayans (and Ahri, specifically) "race traitor" in the Vastayan language.
* CutenessProximity: [[PetTheDog She's surprisingly rather]] [[ImTakingHerHomeWithMe taken with]] [[EmotionBomb Amumu, of]] [[UndeadChild all people.]]
--> "Aw, poor sad little mummy! I just want to take you home."
* DeadpanSnarker: She's remarkably bored-sounding most of the time, but also very sarcastic, especially in her many, many taunts.
--> ''(Referring to [[BadassPreacher Illaoi's]] totem)'' "Where can I get one of those delightful chthonic god clutch purses? Does it come in purple? The god, not the bag."
* EmoTeen: She's got shades of this. She dresses in dark colors, rebels against authority, and hates light and the sun. Funnily enough, she doesn't really seem to take well to this accusation:
--> "The next one to call me 'edgy' is getting choked to death."
* FantasticRacism: Hates humans and yordles. Humans because she believes they drove Vastayans out of their original homes, and yordles for giving Vastayans a bad name.
* FeatherFlechettes: Xayah is capable of magically turning her own feathers into effectively razor sharp throwing daggers, which of course leads to...
* FlechetteStorm: ...her primary form of attacking being based around throwing (or recalling the one's she's already thrown) as many of her "daggers" as possible. Her Ultimate is even called ''Featherstorm'', and does exactly as the two combined tropes would imply.
* {{Foil}}: [[OppositesAttract To her lover, Rakan.]] Xayah is an AD carry focused on dealing major damage while Rakan is a support who plays to keep her and the rest of the team safe. She's a borderline-EmotionlessGirl that often sounds really bored most of the time, while he's a loud, cocky and brash showman. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Also,]] she wears mostly purple with a wing on her left side while Rakan is mostly yellow with his wing on his right.
* ForHalloweenIAmGoingAsMyself: Though not named, she makes an appearance in the short story [[https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/story/perennial/ "Perennial"]], attending a festival with a pair of "lifelike fuzzy ears atop her head" as her 'costume'.
* GlassCannon: Xayah has staggering damage potential and good crowd control to go with it, but is very fragile and has poor mobility outside of her second ability. That's where Rakan comes in, to help cover her weaknesses.
* HalfHumanHybrid: She's a Vastayan, a race of people who descended from humans who fled to a far corner of Ionia to escape the Great Void War, and were accepted and had relationships with the spirit like shapechangers that resided there.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: She just doesn't like people who aren't Rakan, though she's willing to tolerate her fellow Vastayans.
--> ''(After killing [[LightEmUp Lux]])'' "Wasn't she just a ray of sunshine? [[{{Beat}} [beat]]] I hate sunshine."\\
''(taunting [[FriendToAllLivingThings Ivern]])'' "I want your happiness to evaporate."
* HatesSmallTalk: "[[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/2/24/Xayah.move14.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20170422022605 Talking to people makes me want to stab them. So I do]]."
* IndyPloy: While she does go into battle with a goal in mind, even she has to wing it sometimes.
--> '''Rakan''': This is the plan, right!?\\
'''Xayah''': It is now!
* {{Jerkass}}: Xayah is mean, or even outright violent, towards ''everyone'' except Rakan. [[NightmareFetishist And Amumu, weirdly enough.]]
* MeetCute: How she met Rakan... though "cute" is a bit subjective.
--> [[CasualDangerDialogue "We pledged ourselves to each other in the middle of a]] [[BarBrawl tavern brawl.]] The whole place reeked of vomit, sweat and blood. [[ComicallyMissingThePoint It was so romantic!"]]
* NightmareFetishist: One of the ''very'' few champions to have any kind words for Amumu, despite being pretty close to the ''last'' person you'd expect to.
* NoJustNoReaction: If an nearby enemy champion makes a joke, one of Xayah's responses is "Just... no."
* OfficialCouple: With Rakan. This extends into gameplay, where the two have unique animations if they recall near each other, share skin lines, and have enhanced abilities if they are on the same team.
* PardonMyKlingon: Vastayans seem to have their own language, and Xayah calls Ahri "mu'takl" for wanting to be human.
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: Whether or not she's meant to be this or a PoliticallyIncorrectVillain is unclear, but Xayah's a person who (not completely without reason) cares about the Vastaya above all else, [[CategoryTraitor considers Vastaya who try to blend in with or become human traitors to their heritage]], [[FantasticRacism detests other species]], relishes the idea of killing and causing chaos, openly scorns multiple different countries, makes no bones about her desire to spread her rebellion beyond Ionia, and is generally an unpleasant and misanthropic person.
* PrecisionFStrike: When she first launched on the PBE, in what would have been a first for the game, she surprisingly used "shit" completely uncensored in a few lines, and even called [[{{Mooks}} minions]] "little shits." Those lines were removed from the final release for fear of pushing the game's parental rating higher.
* RedBaron: Has earned the moniker of "The Violet Raven" among those who talk about her.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: What she plans to do if she ever lost Rakan.
-->'''Rakan''': "What would you do if I died?"
-->'''Xayah''': "I would... burn this world to the ground and build a castle from the ashes, where I would live alone forever."
* TheSmartGuy: In comparison to the slightly [[TheDitz ditzier]] Rakan. Not only is she leading the Vastaya rebellion, but she actually goes into battle with an actual basic strategy.
--> '''Rakan''': Alright, let's go! This way or that way?\\
'''Xayah''': Stick to the plan.\\
'''Rakan''': We have a plan?\\
'''Xayah''': We ''always'' have a plan.\\
'''Rakan''': Oh. Really?
* SmugSuper: She's very strong in a fight, and [[DeadpanSnarker equal parts snarky and utterly bored]] most of the time. To boot, she has ''six'' different lines for scoring a pentakill, one of her lines is a thoroughly unimpressed "Hooray. They all died."
--> "As far as obstacles go, that was about a... three outta ten?"
* TheSnarkKnight: Behind the sarcastic attitude is a young (Well, young for [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld a Vastaya]]) lady feeling the pressure of being the savior of her kind.
-->'''Xayah''': "I'm so tired... "
-->'''Rakan:''': "You gotta rest, honey."
-->'''Xayah''': "Everyone is depending on me."
-->'''Rakan''': "Everyone can wait."
* {{Tsundere}}: Was initially this toward Rakan in her bio.
* WingedHumanoid: Well, one giant wing on her left. This is poked fun at in her joke emote, showing [[WingsDoNothing it's not strong enough for her to actually fly]].

'''Appears in:''' ''VideoGame/LegendsOfRuneterra''

->''"A lifetime as a slave has prepared me for eternity as your master."''

->''Xerath is an Ascended Magus of ancient Shurima, a being of arcane energy writhing in the broken shards of a magical sarcophagus. For millennia, he was trapped beneath the desert sands, but the rise of Shurima freed him from his ancient prison. Driven insane with power, he now seeks to take what he believes is rightfully his and replace the upstart civilizations of the world with one fashioned in his image.''
\\
Xerath is an Artillery Mage champion whose specialty is in long-range bombardment, blasting down opponents from the safety of his humongous range with volleys of arcane power.
* His passive, ''[[RegeneratingMana Mana Surge]]'', periodically causes Xerath's next basic attack to restore some mana, with the amount of mana restored being doubled if he attacks an enemy champion. The passive's cooldown is reduced upon killing a unit.
* With his first ability, ''[[ChargedAttack Arcanopulse]]'', Xerath starts charging-up arcane energy for a few seconds, moving at reduced speed. When the ability is reactivated he fires a powerful energy beam in a target direction, damaging enemies in its path, with the range of the beam increasing the longer he charged it.
* His second ability, ''[[ShockAndAwe Eye of Destruction]]'', calls down a blast of energy at a target location, damaging and slowing enemies inside. Enemies hit in the center of the blaster take bonus damage and receive a stronger slow.
* His third ability, ''[[StaticStunGun Shocking Orb]]'', sends out an energy sphere in a target direction, damaging and stunning the first enemy it hits, with the stun duration increasing based on how much distance the sphere traveled.
* With his ultimate ability, ''[[DeathFromAbove Rite of the Arcane]]'', Xerath channels for a few seconds as he unleashes his full arcane might, becoming immobile and gaining the ability to fire a set of arcane missiles at any location in a huge radius around himself, each missile damaging and briefly revealing nearby enemies upon landing, with successive missiles on the same target dealing increased damage. Based on the rank, he can fire up to four or six missiles per cast.
\\
Xerath's alternate skins include [[RobotMe Battlecast Xerath,]] Runeborn Xerath, [[LavaAddsAwesome Scorched Earth Xerath]], [[ThePowerOfTheSun Guardian of the Sands Xerath]], [[SpacetimeEater Dark]] [[PowerOfTheVoid Star Xerath]], [[TarotMotifs Arcana Xerath]], and Astronaut Xerath. ''Legends of Runeterra'' exclusively includes [[TheCorruption Corrupted Xerath]].\\
\\
In season 3 of Teamfight Tactics, Xerath uses his Dark Star Xerath skin and is a 5 cost Dark Star Sorcerer. His ability is ''Abyssal Bombardment'', which makes Xerath summon meteors in place of his basic attacks for a few seconds, dealing magic damage to random targets. Meteors that kill their targets stun and deal a reduced amount of damage to adjacent enemies.\\
\\
In ''VideoGame/LegendsOfRuneterra'', [[Characters/LegendsOfRuneterraShurima Xerath]] is a 4-mana 3/4 Shurima Ascended Champion that deals 1 damage to the weakest enemy when a friendly landmark is destroyed. After 4 friendly landmarks have been destroyed, he levels up, gaining +1/+1 and upgrading his ability to deal 3 damage. Once you've restored the Sun Disk, Xerath levels up again, gaining +1/+5, upgrading his ability to deal 5 damage and hit the enemy Nexus if no enemy units are in play, allowing it to trigger at round start in addition to when an allied landmark is destroyed, and passively causing enemies that die to be Obliterated instead. His signature spell is Xerath's Rite of the Arcane.
----

* AmbitionIsEvil:Originally a child slave of the ancient Shuriman empire, all his life Xerath only desired to be free. He would eventually save the life of the young Emperor Azir, who promised him his freedom, and would go on to be educated, taught magic, and become the Emperor's top adviser. However, he never gained the freedom he was promised, and [[SlaveLiberation eventually turned to scheming to take freedom]]. However, just as his schemes were about to bear fruit, [[PoorCommunicationKills Azir finally kept his promise and revealed he always intended to, just waiting for the right moment]]. Xerath, unable to do anything to stop the destruction of Shurima he had set in motion, [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone could only silently weep at what was about to happen]]. [[SealedEvilInACan He was then sealed away in a tomb for several thousand years by Nasus and Renekton before escaping into the present time]], aiming to take over Shirma [[TheUnfettered determined never to lose his freedom again]].
* ArchEnemy: He and his followers are the most prominent opposition to Azir's attempts to revive Shurima, with the two having a very strong and bittered history together that makes for a very personal feud. Their forces battle out through the region and leave a lot of collateral in their wake, which only garners more opposition to both of them.
* BossBattle: He serves as the boss in the Ascension game mode and is heftily beefed up like. Defeating him causes the defeater to become an Ascended and receive a massive power upgrade, but he will respawn if the Ascended is killed. Funnily enough, [[MirrorMatch you can still select Xerath in the mode]], so it's possible to have normal!Xerath fighting against boss!Xerath.
* ChargedAttack: Holding down the button for ''Arcanopulse'' will increase its range, letting him strike foes from way outside their range.
* CostumeEvolution: In ''[=LoR=]'', the look of his metallic components is much more sleek and ornate compared to his original ''League'' model, with lots of gold accents to mark his ascended nature.
* CrosshairAware: His energy bolt attack telegraphs a line on the ground before it actually fires. It still fires off fast enough that it's very hard to dodge on reaction.
* CutscenePowerToTheMax: While Xerath himself isn't shown, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Eu7NzzHC84 The Climb]]" features Taliyah surfing through an enormous energy volley that's clearly supposed to be his ultimate, and [[MacrossMissileMassacre he's firing WAY more than is possible in-game]].
* DeadpanSnarker: His dialogue in ''[=LoR=]'' can get quite dry, namely taking jabs at Azir's boasting or having to deal with [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain Veigar]] trying to one-up him.
-->'''Azir:''' "Shurima, your emperor has returned."\\
'''Xerath:''' "[[SarcasmMode May he reign with wisdom and humility.]]"\\
\\
'''Veigar:''' "Finally, someone to rival my power!"\\
'''Xerath:''' "You... [[YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe you're joking, right?]]"\\
\\
'''[[HumongousMecha Grand Overseer Veigar:]]''' "Greetings, miniature mortals!"\\
'''Xerath:''' "Well, that's clearly cheating..."
* DifficultButAwesome: With high cooldowns and mana costs, missing his spells is quite painful. The ability to consistently stay at a safe range and properly aim separates Xeraths that are nuisances and those that are utter terrors.
* EldritchAbomination: More or less became a magical one as a result of the corrupted Ascension ritual.
--> ''[[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/b/ba/Xerath.move15.ogg "You cannot fathom what I am!"]]''
* EnergyBeing: What Xerath is now. In fact, what most people would see as being 'his body' is actually the torn-apart sarcophagus that Nasus and Renekton tried to seal him inside - Xerath himself is 'just' the [[MadeOfMagic bluish white energy inside it.]]
* AFateWorseThanDeath: He was entombed for ''centuries'' with only Renekton for company.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: We don't get to see much of the recently Ascended Xerath before Renekton and Nasus seal him in the tomb, but if it wasn't the corrupt Ascension ritual that drove him to unheard degrees of TheUnfettered, this trope is the most likely explanation of why the Xerath we see in the present is even more obsessed with freedom than he was as a slave. Sure, he might have had Renekton for company in that tomb, but being two locked away in isolation for centuries is only marginally better than being alone. We know Renekton emerged from the tomb as an insane butcher, radically different from the guardian that did a HeroicSacrifice, and it's thus highly doubtful that Xerath survived 'intact' as well.
* GodhoodSeeker: While he never quite says he is a god himself, his aspirations seem pretty close to this idea.
-->"I will fashion this world in my image."\\
"Unlimited power, mine to control!"
* HandBlast: ''Arcanopulse'' is one of his signature damage abilites, [[ChargedAttack charging]] a blast of energy from his palms that travels several meters from him.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: In his lore, he realizes Azir always intended to keep his promise of SlaveLiberation, right after Xerath's plan has advanced too far for either of them to stop it.
* IJustWantToBeFree: His initial motivation was to free himself from slavery, no matter what it took. Now, while he still greatly values his freedom, he's also been injected with an unhealthy dose of ambition and megalomania.
* {{Immortality}}: It's unknown currently if the Ascended have CompleteImmortality, but it is known that they are TheAgeless. They also don't need to sleep or eat.
--> ''[[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/2/2e/Xerath.move5.ogg "I am eternal."]]''
* KickTheDog: Pun completely unintended. His new taunt to Nasus is perhaps one of the cruelest in the game. Listen for yourself.
--> ''[[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/f/ff/Xerath.tauntNasus02.ogg "Nasus... thank you for your brother."]]''
* KillSat: This is essentially his ultimate and ''Eye of Destruction'', calling down blasts of energy from above to obliterate targets.
* LavaAddsAwesome: Scorched Earth Xerath.
* LongRangeFighter: Emphasis on ''long''. He's fully capable of hitting you from outside your vision range without fear of retaliation, and boasts a variety of powerful skill shots and [=AoE=] abilities to shred through you HP. Get up close though and his options become a lot more limited, since all of his main damage tools require windup or preparation to use. His one escape tool, ''Shocking Orb'', is a very basic stun that only gives him so much time to retreat to safety,
* ManipulativeBastard: Was the very person who drove Renekton to insanity and tricked him into believing that Nasus betrayed him. And before all that, he manipulated Azir's hubris to have him initiate Ascension, only for him to sabotage the ritual with the intent of causing his own SlaveLiberation.
* MeaningfulName: In-story the nameless slave boy was given the name Xerath, meaning "one who shares" by Azir, due to Xerath helping the young prince read a difficult passage.
* MindRape: One theory is that GoMadFromTheIsolation wouldn't have been enough to break Renekton, and that Xerath spent the time entombed with him to turn him from a noble hero that protects Shurima into an insane butcher.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He sabotaged the Ascension ritual to free himself from enslavement once and for all. Unfortunately, he was legitimately freed by Azir just prior to the commencement of the sabotaged ritual; instead of rejoicing, Xerath silently wept at the knowledge that it was now far too late to prevent Shurima's ruination.
* NoSell: When anchored during his ultimate, you cannot dislodge Xerath through any means - try doing so regardless while playing Thresh and Xerath will mock you at your feeble attempt to yet again restrain him.
--> ''[[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/f/f8/Xerath.tauntThresh.ogg "Those chains cannot hold me either, jailer."]]''
* PhysicalGod: He's an Ascended, which is par for the course as humans gifted godly power.
--> [[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/4/42/Xerath.move12.ogg "I see the forces that hold the universe together."]]''
* PoorCommunicationKills: In the worst way possible. Azir promised to free Xerath from slavery as a child... And possibly kept on saying that he intended to keep his promise. He thought Xerath was [[HappinessInSlavery happy as his slave]] and thus wasn't in a rush to grant him his freedom before he could make a symbolic gesture just prior to his Ascension - the truth couldn't be further away, and by the time Azir had his royal guards salute Xerath as he granted not only Xerath, but all Shuriman slaves their freedom, Xerath's resentment for the unkept promise had already put wheels in motion that neither of them could stop.
* PureEnergy: He fires it by blasting energy bolts that look like the game's representation of mana (neon cerulean liquid energy).
* PureMagicBeing: What he is after his Ascension, his body having become a sentient collection of pure, concentrated mana.
* {{Retcon}}: In his very original backstory in 2011, Xerath was simply an ancient, yet unassuming Shuriman mage who underwent a dangerous ritual to [[AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence ascend his physical form]], turning into [[MadeOfMagic a being of pure magical energy]] who proved to be [[PersonOfMassDestruction so catastrophic]] that he was imprisoned and forgotten for centuries, until he finally broke himself out by present day. With the 2014 Shurima lore event and debut of Azir, elements of his lore was shifted around, including changing his background to being a slave who became Azir's personal adviser and became an [[PhysicalGod Ascended]] similar to Azir, Nasus, and Renekton.
* [[SealedEvilInACan Sealed Ambition In A Tomb]]: After the sabotaged ritual killed Azir and caused Xerath to become a corrupt Ascended being, Nasus and Renekton sealed him in a sarcophagus. When said sarcophagus couldn't hold him, Renekton did a HeroicSacrifice by means of SealedEvilInADuel untill Nasus could close the tomb they were in. As so often is with Sealed Evils in their cans, the tomb was, eventually, reopened.
* ShockAndAwe: His abilities revolve around shooting lightning at people. There's even a joke for it.
* SlaveLiberation: After saving Azir as a young child, Xerath was promised his freedom. He was educated, was taught magic, became Azir's top advisor, but the promised freedom was never given to him. This caused him to scheme to achieve it on his own. Eventually, just as his plans were about to bear fruit, he was granted his freedom as Azir began to ascend by means of a ritual Xerath had corrupted - by that point, [[FaceHeelDoorSlam it was too late to stop his schemes already in motion]], and Xerath could only watch as he knew an empire-destroying doom was mere seconds away.
--> '''Xerath:''' [[YouAreTooLate Too late, friend]]. [[HeelFaceDoorSlam Too late, brother]]. [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone Far too late for us all.]]
* SquishyWizard: Played straight - the hard part is getting to him as a good Xerath will be the League's answer to heavy artillery, hiding behind a strong frontline and pelting you with one blast of PureEnergy after another.
* TheUnfettered: After he had been promised freedom for years but never actually received it, Xerath began scheming with the singular purpose of attaining his freedom. Before that though, he was so loyal to Azir that he would commit atrocities if it meant keeping him safe.
** Whether this is a result of the corrupt Ascension shredding away his emotions, or from GoMadFromTheIsolation from being locked away in a tomb for so long, this applies to the present Xerath too: He is consumed by the thought of freedom and may whatever gods you pray to grant you mercy if you stand in his way, because he won't let '''anything''' stop him.
* UnitsNotToScale: While all Ascended are larger than humans, it wasn't until his card in ''Legends of Runeterra'' was released that we got to see that he's actually [[https://cdnportal.mobalytics.gg/production/2021/08/22730aea-xerath-level-1-lor-splash.jpg the size of a building]] (and unlike Nasus and Renekton this is his size ''all'' the time, not just [[MakeMyMonsterGrow temporarily when they use their ultimates]]).
* VillainHasAPoint: While no saint himself-especially after ascending-he is right that Azir's ego is the emperor's biggest failing as the latter tries to reclaim his role as emperor despite being less-than-unanimously welcomed back upon his return and continues to pursue the same kinds of imperialist methods as ancient Shurima, upending hundreds of lives in the process.
-->'''Azir:''' "My name will echo through the ages."\\
'''Xerath:''' "Cursed by those who suffered at your hand!"
* VocalEvolution: While he didn't receive a full visual update, Xerath's voiceover was updated in 2014 to coincide with the Shurima lore event and the Ascension game mode, gaining several new lines and champion-specific taunts.
* WasOnceAMan: Was formerly a slave turned into one of Azir's top mages and advisors - but still a slave none the less. Now he's an Ascended.
--> ''[[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/1/17/Xerath.move13.ogg "I am the will of man unbound by flesh!"]]''
* WhereIWasBornAndRazed: It may have possibly been due to the "nature" of the sabotaged ritual, but the moment Xerath ascended, Shurima was reportedly buried in a huge sandstorm.
* WouldHurtAChild: During their youth, Xerath was so determined to protect Azir from his father's wrath, that he secretly used magic to kill any unborn child Azir's mother would conceive. And on the night that the emperor and empress died, Xerath also killed the newborn baby. Azir never found out.

->''"Death is inevitable; one can only avoid defeat."''

->''Xin Zhao is a resolute warrior loyal to the royal family of Demacia. Once condemned to the fighting pits of Noxus, he survived countless gladiatorial bouts. It was not until he faced the forces of King Jarvan III in battle that he decided to relinquish his past life, in favor of serving what he saw as a more honorable cause. Armed with his favored three-talon spear, Xin Zhao now fights for his adopted kingdom, audaciously challenging any foe, no matter the odds.''
\\
Xin Zhao is a Diver champion who excels at dashing straight into the middle of the enemy team, scattering them apart while he initiates a one-on-one duel with a single enemy.
* His passive, ''[[AttackAttackAttack Determination]]'', causes Xin Zhao's every third consecutive basic attack to deal bonus damage and heal him.
* His first ability, ''[[ThreeStrikeCombo Three Talon Strike]]'', enhances Xin Zhao's next three basic attacks, causing them to deal increased damage and reduce the cooldown of his other abilities. The third attack also becomes an upwards strike that knocks-up his target.
* With his second ability, ''[[{{Main/Combo}} Wind Becomes Lightning]]'', Xin Zhao first sweeps his spear a wide arc in front of him, then thrusts the spear forward in a line, damaging enemies hit by each strike and briefly slowing those hit by the thrust attack.
* With his third ability, ''[[DashAttack Audacious Charge]]'', Xin Zhao dashes to a nearby enemy, damaging and briefly slowing them and other surrounding enemies. He also gains increased attack speed for a few seconds.
* His ultimate ability, ''[[NighInvulnerability Crescent Guard]]'', passively marks the last enemy champion attacked by Xin Zhao as ''Challenged'' for a few seconds. When activated, Xin Zhao spins his spear around him, damaging surrounding enemies based on their max health and knocking-back all non-''Challenged'' opponents. For a few seconds afterwards, Xin Zhao is surrounded by a circle of enhanced awareness, becoming immune to damage from enemies outside the circle; the duration of this effect is extended by hitting enemies with attacks and abilities.
\\
Xin Zhao's alternate skins include [[TheSquad Commando Xin Zhao]], Imperial Xin Zhao, [[GladiatorGames Viscero Xin Zhao]], [[UsefulNotes/PolesWithPoleaxes Winged Hussar Xin Zhao]], [[VideoGame/DynastyWarriors Warring Kingdoms Xin Zhao]], [[TuxedoAndMartini Secret Agent Xin Zhao]], [[TheDragonslayer Dragonslayer Xin Zhao]], [[CosmicEntity Cosmic Defender Xin Zhao]], [[BlackKnight Marauder Xin Zhao]], and Firecracker Xin Zhao. ''Wild Rift'' exclusively includes Soul Fighter Xin Zhao.\\
\\
In season 3 of Teamfight Tactics, Xin Zhao is a 2 cost Celestial Protector. With his ''Three Talon Strike'', he quickly strikes his target three times, dealing Basic Attack damage and applying on-hit effects. The third strike deals bonus magic damage and knocks his target up for 1.5 seconds. In season 4, he is reworked into a Tier 3 Warlord Duelist using his Warring Kingdoms skin. His new ability is ''Crescent Guard'', which sweeps his spear around him to damage surrounding enemies while granting Xin Zhao bonus armor and magic resistance for the rest of the round. He was removed in the ''Festival of Beasts'' mid-set update.
----
* TheArtifact: Xin Zhao's character design is badly outdated, owing to rewrites to his lore that had him join Demacia long before the present day of the story, making him much older than Garen and Jarvan IV (whose ages have not changed from their original creation). By the time of current events (Sylas' rebellion and the death of Jarvan III) his hair is starting to go grey with age, and he should more accurately be a CoolOldGuy or OldMaster.
* AscendedMeme: Patch Notes at this rate have started inserting lyrics of [[WesternAnimation/{{Mulan}} "I'll Make A Man Out Of You"]] when it comes to Xin Zhao changes, based on [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ON-6vYobie4 a viral fan video by CholeraNinja where said song got put with gameplay footage of Xin Zhao and making references about being a man in a League game.]]
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: Xin Zhao earned his position in Jarvan III's personal guard within ''minutes'' of meeting the man by surprising, disarming and otherwise incapacitating ''every other member of the guard'' within seconds, proving to the king that he could be killed, and that Xin Zhao could do it, even under guard. Then he set the spear down and exposed his throat to the recovering guards to prove that he ''wouldn't.''
* AttackAttackAttack: His entire kit is based around charging into mobs and causing as much chaos as possible until the fight is over or he's dead.
* BadassBoast: Makes more than the average champion, owing to his warrior mindset and possibly Demacian sayings.
--> ''[[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/d/d9/XinZhao.move5.ogg "A Demacian does not retreat!"]]''
* BalanceBuff: Xin Zhao is pretty infamous for being able to [[LeeroyJenkins dive onto and stab them with crazy autos]], and being ''really'' strong when viable, but he also had [[BoringButPractical a very uninteresting gameplay curve]], with several abilities amounting to "make the stabbing slightly more painful"[[note]]The most egregious being his ''Battle Cry'' as a W, which passively granted him bonus damage per three hits (effectively his current ''Determination'' passive) and a brief attack speed buff when activated[[/note]]. He was given a rework in 2017, giving him the new ability ''Wind Becomes Lightning'', a sorely-needed skillshot ability, and buffing ''Crescent Guard''[[note]]Originally ''Crescent Sweep''[[/note]] from merely [[HerdHittingAttack clearing away enemies]] and granting some armor and MR to granting him a straight-up [[NighInvulnerability invincibility field]], allowing Xin Zhao to retain his stab-heavy gameplay but establishing more meaningful windows of strategic opportunity.
* BloodKnight: Dutiful or not, ultimately he lives for being in the fray and finding challenging foes to face.
* ButtonMashing: His 3 main abilities synergize together so well in a brawl that it's possible to just keep pressing them over and over again.
* CoolUncle: He served as one to Jarvan IV, teaching him how to fight in general and then learning how to use Drakesbane just so he could teach Jarvan IV how to use it when he was older.
* CrutchCharacter: He used to be viewed as a "pub-stomper" (champion with a kit only effective against noobs) due to inexperienced players not knowing how to deal with someone whose entire shtick is "[[AttackAttackAttack stab you to death as fast as possible]]". In Season 3, itemization and meta-game changes brought him back to viability, and he remained a solid, reliable pick since then.
* DashAttack: A pretty straightforward point-and-click ''Audacious Charge'', which serves as his main initiation tool. It also [[FullContactMagic deals magic damage and scales with ability power.]]
* DeathOfAThousandCuts: Is mainly built and works as a DPS melee attacker, being quite the duelist who can deal a good amount of damage with very quick successive hits, and ''if fed'' can deal a good amount of damage per hit as well.
* {{Determinator}}: His passive heals him every third attack and encourages sustained fighting of the player, and is even called ''Determination''.
* FoeTossingCharge: Crescent Sweep knocks away all enemies within its reach, except for the one marked by his passive as "Challenged".
* GladiatorGames: When he was captured by Noxus, he was made into a gladiator of the Reckoning under the name "Viscero", proving to be one of the most successful and feared.
* HonoraryUncle: With a touch of CoolUncle to boot. Though not blood related, young Jarvan IV took to calling him uncle. He still refers to him as such in the present.
* ImmigrantPatriotism: A native of Ionia, but completely devoted to Demacia and their rulers.
* ImperialChina: His design is based on soldiers during this era of China, and additionally, Creator/RichardEpcar performed a very thick Chinese accent for Xin Zhao to enhance this image that he was nigh-unrecognizable than how he usually sounded like (most of Epcar's familiar voice style could be heard when Xin Zhao does his {{Kiai}})
* ImplacableMan: Xin Zhao is most famous for his sheer stickiness. His Q is a spammable knockup. Flashed away? His E covers the same distance. Finally get to the safety of your support or tank? He ults you all, isolates you again, and now your teammates can't help you without putting themselves within stabbing range. God help you if he has something like red buff, Spirit of the Lizard Elder, Frozen Mallet, Trinity Force or Youmuu's Ghostblade.
* {{Kiai}}: Well known for shouting during his abilities and attacks. His ultimate has him yell out a louder one.
* LeeroyJenkins: Any champion described as an Diver is meant to do this: throw themselves into a crowd of enemies, drop their disables, lay some smackdown, and hope their team can capitalize on the resultant chaos. Basically, they're a human nuke, and Xin Zhao performs this role very well. Xin Zhao, as an assassin, has an ability that of course puts him ''right'' in the fray.
* LineOfSightName: During his service in the Noxian [[GladiatorGames Reckoning]], he went by the title of "Viscero". Appropriately threatening-sounding, but he probably didn't tell anyone that it was taken from the fishing boat he used to work on.
* MadeASlave: Formerly just a cabin boy of an Ionian fishing boat, but was captured by Noxian vessels when it ventured too far into their territory, coming to serve then-emperor Boram Darkwill as [[GladiatorGames a Reckoner]] and soldier.
* MyGreatestFailure: Considers failing to protect King Jarvan III this.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Shares the same family name as Zhao Yun. Yes, [[VideoGame/DynastyWarriors THAT]] [[Literature/RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms Zhao Yun]]. He may also be named after the Zhao Xin (趙信) who was a Han General (formally from Xiongnu).
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: His gladiatorial name was "Viscero", the Latin root from which we get "visceral" or "of the ''guts''".
* NighInvulnerability: His ultimate gives him a very specific type in the form of a surrounding field that negates all incoming damage, with only enemies within the field and in close range able to actually hurt him. While [[CloseRangeCombatant he usually]] ''[[CloseRangeCombatant wants]]'' [[CloseRangeCombatant to be in close range]], this allows him to charge a vulnerable target without having to worry about their long-distance reinforcements.
* OlderThanHeLooks: In his early 40's, but still looks like he could pass for a man in his 20's. However in [[https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_AU/story/xinzhao-aftermath-story/ "Aftermath"]] his hair is describe as being streaked with iron grey from the onset of age, contrary to his character model.
* OneManArmy: He didn't get a chance to fight 300 opponents at once, but apparently survived numbers that were likely still very impressive. His ultimate ability grants him defensive stats based on the number of enemies that are surrounding him. He may be outnumbered, but not even the odds can stand against him.
* {{Retcon}}: Originally, Xin Zhao's origins before he was inducted into the Noxian Reckoning were [[MysteriousPast weirdly obfuscated]], with in-universe conjecture being passed around regarding his origins yet nary a word about Ionia (even despite his Chinese-inspired name). It wasn't until Irelia's 2018 VGU where she officially identified him as Ionian, which was then solidified with his 2019 biography update.
* RuleOfThree: Both his passive and ''Three Talon Strike'' empower his third consecutive basic attack.
* ScreamingWarrior: He tends to [[{{Kiai}} yell a lot during his strikes]], including his ultimate. He used to even have an ability called BattleCry [[ShapedLikeItself in which he did just that]], granting him bonus attack speed.
* SkillGateCharacters: To some extent. If anyone is looking for a champion that excels in 1v1 scenarios in the jungle, the top or mid lane, Xin Zhao is the guy who is capable of doing so and someone that a newer player can easily master with. Thus being said, even compared to the other duelists with harder mechanics but superior dueling potential (Lee Sin and Jax for example) and going beyond the gate part of things, he is still a viable pick in competitive play and solo queue alike.
* TheStoic: He's this in the backstory in order to keep his past from surfacing among his new Demacian lieges.
* StrongAndSkilled: Within the story, Xin Zhao is this. He was undefeated as a gladiator before being taken in by Demacia, he earned his place among the king's guard by strength, and he was able to relearn a lost combat art involving a ''sectioned chain spear'' simply because his prince wished to learn it and needed a teacher.
* WinYourFreedom: In a somewhat roundabout method. After building a reputation as one of the deadliest Reckoners in Noxus, he was sold out and conscripted as a soldier to combat Demacia's forces (similar Reckoners of the same fate [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere simply deserted after realizing they were surely doomed]]). However, Jarvan III had no intention of needless death and offered Xin Zhao the chance to leave peacefully, and not only did he accept the offer, he pledged loyalty to the king for his mercy.

'''Appears in:''' ''VideoGame/LegendsOfRuneterra'' (as a follower), ''VideoGame/RuinedKing'' (Cameo)

->''"They look at me and see only the mask. I look at them and see only their fears."''

->''In life, he was Yone--half-brother of Yasuo, and renowned student of his village's sword school. But upon his death at the hands of his brother, he found himself hunted by a malevolent entity of the spirit realm, and was forced to slay it with its own sword. Now, cursed to wear its demonic mask upon his face, Yone tirelessly hunts all such creatures in order to understand what he has become.''
\\
Yone is a Skirmisher/Assassin hybrid champion who switches between a steel and demon sword, diving into the backline and cutting through any foes. He does not use mana or any other resources, with his abilities only being limited by cooldowns.
* His passive, ''Way of the Hunter'', has two separate effects:
** ''[[DualWielding Steel and Spirit]]'' causes Yone's basic attacks to alternate between his steel sword and his demon sword, with the first dealing regular physical damage and the second dealing half of its damage as physical and half as magic damage.
** ''[[CriticalHitClass Intent]]'' doubles Yone's critical strike chance, but reduces the damage dealt by his critical strikes, and converts any excess critical strike chance into bonus attack damage.
* With his first ability, ''[[ThreeStrikeCombo Mortal Steel]]'', Yone thrusts his steel sword forward, damaging enemies in front of him. This ability has an extremely short cooldown, and hitting an enemy with it grants Yone a stack of ''Gathering Storm''. Upon reaching two stacks, Yone's next use of ''Mortal Steel'' will instead make him dash in a target direction while surrounded by a whirlwind, damaging and knocking up enemies in his path.
* His second ability, ''[[SoulCuttingBlade Spirit Cleave]]'', cleaves an area in a cone in the target direction with Yone's demon sword, dealing damage to enemies inside based on their max health and granting him a shield if at least one enemy was hit; the shield increases in strength for each enemy champion that was hit by the attack.
* His third ability, ''[[AstralProjection Soul Unbound]]'', causes Yone to leave his body behind and enter a spirit form for a few seconds, gaining increased movement speed and marking enemy champions he damages, storing a percentage of the damage he dealt to them. When the duration ends or the ability is reactivated, Yone's spirit dashes back to his body and all marked enemy champions take damage equal to the amount stored.
* With his ultimate ability, ''[[SingleStrokeBattle Fate Sealed]]'', Yone briefly channels and then quickly dashes in a target direction, appearing behind the last enemy champion hit, damaging and knocking all enemies in his path towards him.
\\
Yone's alternate skins include Spirit Blossom Yone, [[SuperheroSchool Battle Academia Yone]], [[YinYangBomb Dawnbringer Yone]], [[BeachEpisode Ocean Song Yone]], Inkshadow Yone, [[BoyBand HEARTSTEEL Yone]], Prestige HEARTSTEEL Yone, [[WeirdWest High Noon Yone]], and Peacemaker High Noon Yone. ''Wild Rift'' exclusively includes Crystal Rose Yone.\\
\\
In season 4 of ''Teamfight Tactics'', Yone is a Tier 5 Exile Adept; his Exile origin being unique to him and Yasuo. His ''Seal Fate'' ability causes him to dash along a path in front of him, dealing a fixed amount of magic damage split among all enemies hit, knocking them up and marking them for death, reducing their armor and magic resistance. When at least one enemy is marked for death, Yone's spell is replaced with ''Unforgotten'', which dashes to the marked enemy with the lowest health and strikes them for magic damage that increases based on their missing health. He was removed in season 5, returning in season 6 using his Battle Academia Yone skin as a Tier 4 Academy Challenger. His ability was changed to ''Soul Unbound'', which summons Yone's spirit to attack an enemy within three hexes. The spirit acts as an invulnerable and untargetable copy of Yone that also heals him for a percentage of the damage it deals, lasting for a limited duration or until Yone himself dies. He was removed along with the Academy origin in the ''Neon Nights'' mid-set update, returning in season 7 using his Spirit Blossom Yone skin as a Tier 2 Mirage Warrior. His new ''Way of the Hunter'' ability is a passive that causes his basic attacks to alternate between dealing flat bonus magic damage and percent bonus physical damage. He was removed in season 8, returning in season 10 using his HEARTSTEEL Yone skin as a Tier 3 Heartsteel Edgelord Crowd Diver. His ''Pop Off'' ability grants him a stacking movement speed and omnivamp bonus for the rest of combat, then has him slash twice in a cone for physical damage. In season 11, he returns to his base skin as a Tier 3 Umbral Reaper. His ''Fate Sealed'' ability has him dash to the farthest enemy within 3 hexes in spirit form, dealing physical damage and Wounding all enemies in his path, with the dash range increasing by 1 hex with every cast each combat. Yone gains a shield and bonus attack speed while in spirit form, and returns to his original position after a few seconds.\\
\\
In ''VideoGame/LegendsOfRuneterra'', [[Characters/LegendsOfRuneterraIonia Yone's]] appearance predated his reveal as a Champion so, like Senna, Sentinel of Light, Yone, Windchaser is a Follower rather than a Champion, representing him before his tragic fatal encounter with Yasuo. He's a 7-mana 6/6 Ionia Follower who casts Staggering Strikes, a skill that stuns 2 enemy units, when played. Being a Follower, he has no signature spell.
----
* TheAloner: He appears to have little to no ties to humanity anymore, hunting azakana and other demons on his own. The only substantial connections he has right now are with Yasuo -- though they last spoke on good terms and agreed to part ways peacefully -- and [[OnlyFriend Lillia]], whom he shares his friendliest interactions with and vows to protect in specific from demons.
* AntiHero: A tragic warrior with demonic powers and [[FaceOfAThug an equally demonic-looking appearance]], but Yone ultimately fights for his own humanity against demons, so he's definitely not a bad guy.
* AscendedExtra: Yone was introduced [[DeathByOriginStory posthumously as a major character in Yasuo's backstory]]. Almost 7 years later, Yone has come back from the dead and as a full-blown playable champion.
* AsskickingPose: He has a particular stance where he crosses his arms in front of him so his blades are on either side of his head. This is so distinctive that Yasuo instantly recognizes Yone once the latter performs it in ''Kin of the Stained Blade''.
* AstralProjection: His third ability, ''Soul Unbound'' is this, leaving his body behind to attack his foes as a spirit before snapping back to body when the ability's duration ends, allowing him to make risky trades and still have a way out. His physical body becomes invulnerable while in this state, but his spectral form can still be damaged normally.
* BackFromTheDead: He was originally slain by Yasuo years ago, but was brought back to the mortal realm after an azakana pursued him in death, seeking to overpower what remained of him. That being said, Riot has [[AmbiguousSituation deliberately made it unclear as to exactly brought him back]]; the most we know is that he's ''not'' [[https://twitter.com/michaelyichao/status/1286728867147784192 traditionally "undead,"]] whatever that means.
* BaitAndSwitch: As Yone's return was [[{{Foreshadowed}} being teased]], many elements were pointing in the direction that Yone would be brought BackFromTheDead [[ThePowerOfHate based on his hatred towards Yasuo]], with the assumption that he would end up returning as his enemy (especially since [[FaceOfAThug his appearance is very villainous-looking]]). However, "Kin of the Stained Blade" revealed that Yone intends to kill ''demons'', not his brother. The two end up working together to slay the azakana preying on Yasuo, and afterwards, [[{{Forgiveness}} they decide to leave on good terms]].
* BashBrothers: He teams up with Yasuo to slay the azakana haunting him at the end of ''Kin of the Stained Blade''.
* BarredFromTheAfterlife: Yone died and entered the spirit realm, but was brought back for reasons unknown (we can assume that it had something to do with the azakana preying on him, but the actual cause was left deliberately vague). While he's since dedicated himself to fight against the azakana, he's also audibly frustrated in being unable to rest peacefully. Meeting Kindred on the rift has him longingly ask if they're here to return him to the natural cycle of death.
* BlowYouAway: While his insight on it is nowhere near as extensive as Yasuo's, Yone possesses some knowledge of the ancient sword technique that channels the wind. This manifests as the ability ''Mortal Steel'', which behaves in a very similar fashion to Yasuo's ''Steel Tempest'' with its [[ThreeStrikeCombo triple-stack interactions]] and power to [[LauncherMove launch enemies into the air.]] His ultimate ''Fate Sealed'' similarly knocks enemies up with a gale of wind.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: The grim "brooding boy" to Lillia's shy and demure "gentle girl". Lillia of course is a [[NiceGirl naturally sweet person]] and extends her kindness to the demon hunter. Their interactions show that she is something of a MoralityPet to Yone who he always treats cordially and with gentleness, whereas everyone else tends to receive anything from snark to pure fury. Even their aesthetics mark their contrasting attitudes, Yone being clad in black and dark reds and fighting with blades, and Lillia being composed of vibrant greens and purples and fighting with fae-type magic.
* CainAndAbel: The older half-brother of Yasuo, slain in battle after confronting him over presumably killing their elder. However, despite coming back from the dead based around his anger towards Yasuo, [[{{Forgiveness}} he's since become largely disinterested in pursuing this conflict]], allowing them to continue on their separate paths.
* CallBack: He references the "road to ruin" in one of his lines just like his brother. While Yasuo comments that it's "shorter than you think," Yone ruminates on how he's "walked it once before."
* CameBackStrong: Yone was brought back to life by [[DemonicPossession an azakana trying to seize his spirit and body]]... except Yone ended up ''winning'', so [[BadPowersGoodPeople he came back with azakana powers that]] [[DemonSlaying he can now use for good.]]
* CastingGag: Creator/NoshirDalal plays a [[BackFromTheDead revived]] Japanese-style swordsman with a magical red blade that kills supernatural beings. Are we talking about Yone or [[Characters/SekiroShadowsDieTwiceSekiroWolf Sekiro]]?
* CharacterTitle: He's the titular ''Kin of the Stained Blade'' of the cinematic featuring him, with Yasuo as the Stained Blade.
* ClingyCostume: His azakana mask is sealed to his face and he cannot remove it without defeating the demon that powers it.
* CloseRangeCombatant: His longest-ranged ability is his ''Spirit Cleave'', which reaches a relatively short distance in front of him when compared to Yasuo's tornadoes.
* {{Combos}}: Like his brother Yasuo, Yone's first ability consists of two stabs used in succession before unlocking the ability to knock enemies into the air, only with a dash rather than a skillshot tornado.
* CoolMask: Granted, [[EvilMask it's the product of]] [[OurDemonsAreDifferent an azakana]] and it won't come off, but there's no denying that his mask looks incredibly cool. Apparently, all azakana are reduced to masks upon discovering their [[IKnowYourTrueName true names]], which he keeps on his belt after slaying them.
* CriticalHitClass: Like Yasuo, his passive doubles his critical hit chance (at the cost of reduced damage per critical hit), and ''Mortal Steel'' applies on-hit effects like critical strikes, just like Yasuo's ''Steel Tempest''. It should be no surprise that he's intended to be played as and built in a similar way to Yasuo, maximizing the amount of basic attacks and abilities as he possibly can per combo.
* CursedWithAwesome: The bad news: an [[OurDemonsAreDifferent azakana]] took hold of Yone while in the spirit realm, and now forever remains a part of him. The good news: it also brought him [[BackFromTheDead back to the land of the living]], and thanks to Yone's triumph over it, Yone remains in the driver's seat. Even better is that he gained the ability to [[DetectEvil detect other azakana]], allowing him to hunt them down.
* DarkIsNotEvil: His UndeathlyPallor, blood-red blade, and growly tendencies all point to him as someone to be feared and avoided, but ultimately he'd much rather slay azakana than other champions on the Rift.
* DemonSlaying: Using his [[CursedWithAwesome azakana weaponry]] and ability to detect azakana, Yone is on a crusade to slay them, hopefully to uncover the one attempting to possess him and find peace.
* DemonicPossession: A variant. Yone was brought back to the mortal realm by the power of an azakana, a lesser demon that preys on individuals and their vulnerabilities. The goal of azakana is to break their hosts and eventually possess them, ascending to becoming "true" demons, but fortunately for Yone, he was able to slay his as it [[BackFromTheDead brought him back to life]], giving him control... for now.
* DifficultButAwesome: Without a ''Wind Wall'' to stop projectiles and an on-demand dash to weave through crowds and chase foes, Yone is less consistently mobile and durable than Yasuo in a typical fight. Yone makes up for it with his ability to make risky trades and plays with ''Soul Unbound'' at the cost of leaving his original body defenseless as well as potentially having larger burst and tanking potential with his two knock-ups and the shield from ''Spirit Cleave''. Also, unlike Yasuo, his kit doesn't have a crazy learning curve and it's quite straightforward, but still allows for high-skill plays (pretty much like Zed).
* DualWielding: He wields two blades, one of which is infused with azakana magic. Fittingly, his passive makes him alternate between the two in basic attacks, with the azakana blade dealing bonus magic damage, and each blade has a dedicated ability. The ''Kin of the Stained Blade'' cinematic shows that he fought with two swords even before his resurrection, as does his card art from ''Legends of Runeterra''.
-->''"One blade carries the weight of my past. The other holds the key to my future."''
* FaceOfAThug: He hunts down demons while looking exactly like one. It's frightening enough that Yasuo, unaware that an azakana is attacking him in the guise of a priest, assumes Yone is an evil spirit pursuing a helpless old man.
-->''"Many mistake me for the nightmares I slay. Hmph... let them."''
* {{Forgiveness}}: Downplayed. He has mostly forgiven Yasuo for killing him, but that doesn't stop Yone from giving him some pointed verbal barbs. Ah, brothers...
* GoodAllAlong: In the lead-up to his reveal, it was hinted that Yone would be brought back to life by his [[ThePowerOfHate obsessive anger at Yasuo]]. Then his trailer actually came out, and he turned out to be an undead demon hunter who, while jaded and tired, is willing to let the past go.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: Just like Yasuo, some of his attacks have him [[{{Kiai}} shout out words]] in an ancient Ionian dialect reminiscent of Japanese.
* HandwrapsOfAwesome: Yone wears bandages around his entire arms, mainly because he's experienced and faced death quite a lot, but also because visually, [[RuleOfCool it looks really cool.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Under most conditions, ''Soul Unbound'' will return Yone to his initial starting position and is intended to be used to engage onto enemies. A common beginner's mistake is to activate the ability while trying to ''escape'' enemies, which effectively gift-wraps a kill for them.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: Even though he's a half-azakana who spends most of his time fighting and sealing other azakana, and is openly hostile to full-blown demons like Tahm Kench and Evelynn, he's rendered almost speechless by [[HumanoidAbomination Fiddlesticks]].
* IKnowYourTrueName: Once he realizes an azakana's true name, Yone can seal them into inert masks. He often invokes this phrase against the enemies he fights, and claims to know the real name of Tahm Kench (whose name was actually taken from one of his victims) at the very least.
-->''"Fear, once named, controls no one."''
* ImprobableUseOfAWeapon: [[RuleOfFunny He somehow manages in his "dance" emote]] to use his sword as the bow of a stringed instrument without cutting the strings.
* {{Irony}}: Yone gained the ability to detect, identify the true names of, and slay azakana... except for the one he's fused with.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: And ''[[DualWielding two]]'' katanas are even better than that.
* LeanAndMean: [[DarkIsNotEvil But only in appearance]]. Yone is much lankier than his brother, giving the two more unique design silhouettes.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: One of his lines for Yasuo has him saying that the wind tastes salty around him, reflecting the popular characterization of a Yasuo main as a salty, self-important jerk who hates losing.
* LightningBruiser: He has all three types of damage on his kit, two dashes and a blink, and a low-cooldown shield to help survive damage. His weaknesses are his vulnerable early game and his lack of range.
* MagicKnight: He alternates between his physical steel sword and his magical demon sword, which allow him to deal a combination of physical and magic damage with his basic attacks, W, and ultimate. In fact, he's one of the few champions that also has true damage on his kit, allowing him to deal all three types of damage.
* MagikarpPower: To an even greater extent than Yasuo. His base stats are quite low and, unlike Yasuo, he doesn't have a low-cooldown dash (at first) or a projectile-nullifying skill to avoid damage, which makes him vulnerable to all-ins and poke. Yet, he scales '''insanely''' hard with items and levels, and the amount of tools he has at his disposal (two dashes and a blink, mixed damage, percent max health damage, on-demand shield that scales with AD, [=AoE=] damage) makes him a terror once he reaches his powerspikes.
* MilesToGoBeforeISleep: He's exhausted from being ripped away from death, and his current occupation of hunting and defeating other azakana certainly isn't making him ''less'' tired.
-->''"No sleep, no rest... there is no time."''
* MovesetClone: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]; while Yone possesses a distinct moveset [[CastOfSnowflakes like with every other champion]], [[https://eune.leagueoflegends.com/en-pl/news/dev/champion-insights-yone/ his designers made him with the intent]] of evoking Yasuo's gameplay à la an [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate "echo fighter"]], done primarily to encourage diversity in similar mechanical styles. To boot, they share the same critical hit modifiers (double chance, but reduced damage per critical hit) and similar ramping [[RuleOfThree three-strike]] first abilities, with quite an emphasis on dashing around too. However, while sharing mechanics, the two have significantly different playstyles -- where Yasuo rewards carefully waltzing through enemy ranks while dealing reliable damage, Yone is built around relentless aggression amidst limited windows of safety and escape opportunities.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: Despite his lighter build, he puts his brother on the ground twice in "Kin of the Stained Blade" and that was just to get him out of the way. If he'd actually been going for the kill, it would have been a CurbStompBattle.
* MyGreatestFailure: He believed it was his responsibility to make a good and honorable Ionian out of Yasuo. When he died, his frustration and anger both summoned and defeated the azakana which had been feeding on it.
* NothingPersonal: PlayedForLaughs with a few lines of dialogue, largely to play into [[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/teleports-behind-you-nothing-personal-kid the "nothing personal, kid" meme]] (exacerbated by how his ultimate literally has him teleport behind his foes with blades).
-->''(using Fate Sealed)'' "Nothing personal!"\\
''(while respawning)'' "Now... [[ItsPersonal it's a little personal."]]
* OddFriendship: Surprisingly, his lines imply that he, an undead DemonSlayer, is friends with Lillia, a ShrinkingViolet dream spirit. He's quite protective of her and will give her words of encouragement.
--> "Do not wish to hide behind masks, Lillia. Yours... is a kind face."
* ThePowerOfHate: {{Subverted|Trope}}: the azakana that pursued Yone did so [[EmotionEater to feast on his negative emotions towards Yasuo]], and it was through that which allowed it to pursue him after his death. However, Yone managed to overcome its influence while returning, so his negative emotions have yet to consume him, leaving him largely able to forgive Yasuo and focus on other matters.
* PrimAndProperBun: In life he wore his long hair tied up, in contrast to his brother's unkempt ponytail. After death, he wears it almost completely loose.
* PromotedToPlayable: Like Senna before him, Yone spent years as a PosthumousCharacter whose death played a key role in another champion's backstory before being returned to life and made into a champion as well.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Subverted; he certainly looks the part of a menacing, demonic swordsman, but he's a noble person behind that. Even his debut in "Kin of the Stained Blade" is written to make him look villainous at first before coming in to save his brother.
* SharedSignatureMove: Yone and his brother Yasuo have similar Q abilities, "Steel Tempest" and "Mortal Steel". The move involves a single powerful sword thrust, but when landed twice, the brothers can each perform an empowered version that knocks their opponents skyward. Yasuo fires off a long-ranged projectile in the form of a tornado, and Yone dashes forward with a powerful cross slash that knocks up enemies right in front of him.
* ShootTheDog: Attempted to [[HonorRelatedAbuse kill his brother]] personally, believing it necessary to avenge Souma's murder and restore the {{family honor}}.
* TeamMom: Heartsteel Yone is flat-out ''identified'' as such in his bio.
* UndeathlyPallor: His skin is starkly white.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Like Yasuo, he bares his torso. ''Unlike'' Yasuo, the effect is slightly closer to FanDisservice, as while Yasuo is more designed to be "rugged" in an attractive way, Yone's design shows how unnatural he's become.
* WarriorTherapist: He can free people from their inner demons -- hopefully before they manifest as ''outer'' demons.
-->''"Long before blades and sorcery are needed, words can save a soul."''
* YouAreAlreadyDead: ''Soul Unbound'' stores a percentage of all the damage Yone inflicts on an enemy champ, signified by a red X over the enemy's head. And once he's returned to his body, that stored damage triggers and can result in the enemy suddenly dying. The ability borrows influence from Zed's ultimate which functions the same way.

->''"These isles... How they scream."''

->''The last survivor of a long-forgotten religious order, Yorick is both blessed and cursed with power over the dead. Trapped on the Shadow Isles, his only companions are the rotting corpses and shrieking spirits that he gathers to him. Yorick's monstrous actions belie his noble purpose: to free his home from the curse of the Ruination.''
\\
Yorick is a Juggernaut champion who makes extensive use of summoning, calling forth undead creatures to his side to support him in battle or besiege enemy structures.
* His passive, ''Shepherd of Souls'', has two separate effects:
** ''Final Service'' causes enemies that die around Yorick to leave behind a grave (sometimes from minions, always from champions and monsters), up to a maximum of four.
** ''[[TheMinionMaster The Horde]]'' allows Yorick to, through a few of his abilities, raise up to four ''Mist Walkers'' from these graves to aid him in combat, which attack nearby enemies and last until killed.
* His first ability, ''[[ShovelStrike Last Rites]]'', empowers Yorick's shovel with necromantic power, causing his next basic attack to deal increased damage, heal him and, if it kills its target, create a grave. If there are at least three graves nearby, Yorick can reactivate the ability to use ''Awakening'', raising ''Mist Walkers'' from nearby graves.
* His second ability, ''[[TerrainSculpting Dark Procession]]'', summons a wall of corpses that encircle a target location for a few seconds, blocking enemy movement. Enemy champions can destroy the wall through basic attacks.
* With his third ability, ''[[FogOfDoom Mourning Mist]]'', Yorick hurls a globule of Black Mist at a target location, damaging enemies it hits based on their max health, slowing them and marking enemy champions and monsters for a few seconds. Marked foes periodically awaken nearby graves and summon ''Mist Walkers'', while Yorick and his summons gain increased movement speed when moving towards them.
* His ultimate ability, ''[[SummonMagic Eulogy of the Isles]]'', summons the ''Maiden of the Mist'', a powerful spirit, to Yorick's side, which lasts until she is killed. The ''Maiden'' can have her own entourage of up to four ''Mist Walkers'', bringing some alongside her when summoned and automatically raising more when nearby enemies die. The ''Maiden'' normally follows Yorick around and attacks his targets, with Yorick's attacks dealing bonus damage based on the target's max health if he attacks the same enemy as the ''Maiden''. If the ability is reactivated, Yorick sets the ''Maiden'' free, sending her alongside her ''Mist Walkers'' to attack the nearest lane by herself until she dies.
\\
Yorick's alternate skins include [[{{Undertaker}} Undertaker Yorick]], [[HeavyMetal Pentakill Yorick]], [[LightEmUp Arclight Yorick]], Meowrick, Resistance Yorick, [[HeavyMetal Pentakill III: Lost Chapter Yorick]], and Spirit Blossom Yorick.\\
\\
In season 2 of ''Teamfight Tactics'', Yorick uses his Arclight Yorick skin and is a Tier 4 Light Summoner. His ability is ''Shepherd of Souls'', which blesses his allies so that when they die they're reanimated as Minions of Light which count as Light units. He was removed in season 3, returning in season 10 using his Pentakill Yorick skin as a Tier 5 Pentakill Mosher Guardian. His ability, ''GET IN THIS PIT! (ft. Ghouls)'', summons several ghouls that leap to the center of the board. Each ghoul attacks three times for physical damage before expiring, shredding the armor of enemies they hit for a few seconds, and every other cast summons a bigger ghoul with increased damage and its own health bar, allowing it to remain on the board until it is killed. In season 11, he uses his Spirit Blossom Yorick skin and is a Tier 2 Umbral Behemoth. His ''Dark Despoil'' ability has him channel for a few seconds, dealing magic damage to the two nearest enemies over the duration and increasing Yorick's max health by a flat amount.
----
* AirGuitar: [[RuleOfFunny His dance emote has him use his shovel as one]], and you can actually faintly hear the bassline from Pentakill's "Lightbringer" coming from it. If you use his actual Pentakill skin, it becomes perfectly audible, complete with percussion!
* TheAloner: By all indications, Yorick's only companions in his long task are the Mist Walkers and the Maiden.
-->'''Yorick, reacting to enemy taunts:''' [[http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/4/4b/Yorick.interactionTauntEnemy03.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830194131 I'm just happy to have company.]]
* AntiHero: Easily the most heroic of all the Shadow Isles champions, given that all the others are evil. But his singlemindedness towards his goal to undo the damage of the Black Mist and guide all undead souls to their final rest, before dying himself, takes precedence over everything. Yorick will act heroically, so long as those actions do not interfere with his mission.
* BadassBoast: Reworked Yorick has several of these:
--> '''Yorick:''' [[http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/4/49/Yorick.start03.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830194938 Tired, ancient, and half dead. Still, I come for you.]]
--> '''Yorick:''' [[http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/e/e3/Yorick.attack15.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830194021 I will not damn you. I will END you.]]
* BadassCape: Tailor-made from the [[FogOfDoom Black Mist]] itself.
* BadPowersGoodPeople: He can command the dead and summon them from the grave to fight for him. It's pretty creepy. But all he wants is to break the curse over the Shadow Isles and get everyone out of their state of living death, including himself.
-->''What I do is just. Every horrid piece of it.''
* BalanceBuff: Yorick was introduced in 2011 with a fairly unique identity as a fighter [[SummonMagic who could summon ghouls to his beck and call to fight alongside him]], but this was undermined by [[ZergRush the sheer persistence with which he could summon them]][[note]]This was driven by his passive, ''Unholy Covenant'', which caused him to immediately summon one of three different ghouls based on whichever ability he used, each with different capabilities and were outright encouraged to be spammed out given that Yorick himself got stronger basic attacks for each one active[[/note]], and [[CripplingOverspecialization the absence of much else in his kit to accommodate them]], including hard crowd control, [[CrutchCharacter relevance in lategame teamfights]], and healthy mana management[[note]]He drained mana so quickly that players virtually ''needed'' to build mana items each game, and since most of them are for tanks, this had a side effect of making him a StoneWall... [[FakeDifficulty surrounded by annoying ghouls to have to clear out alongside him]][[/note]] made him into a ''very'' unpopular pick, and so annoying when he could actually do his job that Riot outright removed him from the free champion rotation. His 2016 VGU kept the same fighter/necromancer fantasy, but put the summoning aspects on more of a leash directed by his fighting ability; his ''Mist Walkers'' only arrive when Yorick earns them (namely by last-hitting enemies with ''Last Rites''), and with the quasi-crowd control of ''Dark Procession'' and mid-range capabilities with ''Mourning Mist'', a lot more power was centered around Yorick himself, turning his army of ghouls into more of a unique accompanying asset rather than [[FakeDifficulty a crutch to cheese fights with]]. Even his new ultimate with the ''Maiden of the Mist'' gave him a new, creative niche in autonomous split-pushing.
* BaritoneOfStrength: A big and lumbering juggernaut with a ''very'' deep, yet oddly smooth and serene voice.
* ColdHam: Yorick rarely gets loud, speaking most of his lines in a very reserved, almost whispery tone to reflect just how exhausted and weary he's become. This does nothing to dampen the gravity of his words and the sheer determination behind them.
* CreepyGood: He's a good guy, but he still summons souls to attack people, and has a very grim demeanor.
* CursedWithAwesome: The ruination of the Shadow Isles has turned Yorick into a spooky RevenantZombie with necromantic abilities in concert with the Black Mist. However, this makes him among the most qualified to undo the disaster.
-->''"[[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/a/a1/Yorick.move27.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830194505 My curse is our only hope...]]"''
* DarkIsNotEvil: He's a soul-summoning undead, but he's one of the few, possibly the ''only,'' beings cursed by the Shadow Isles who resists its call. He is spending the remainder of his time on the mortal plane trying to undo the damage that was done when his kingdom fell.
* {{Determinator}}: Yorick has resisted the corruption of the Shadow Isles, a corruption that claimed even the once-heroic Kalista, and works to undo the damage done by the Ruined King, constantly traveling the world and trying to gather up lost souls and free them from the curse of the Shadow Isles. And it's quite clear from the way he talks, particularly when the Maiden speaks to him.
--> '''The Maiden:''' [[http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/a/a0/Yorick.start06.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830194942 Your human form is so confining. You could be infinite!]]
--> '''Yorick:''' [[BadassBoast I am enough]].
* DeathSeeker: By all indications from his lines, he ''wants'' to die. But his curse is keeping him alive and immortal. Just look at his taunt directed towards Kindred (who remember, [[TheGrimReaper is the personification of death itself]]).
--> ''"[[http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/a/ae/Yorick.tauntKindred02.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830195025 One day, you will take me. May it be soon.]]"''
* EnemyWithin: The Maiden of the Mist constantly tries to break his will by tempting him to let her in. Her less than cooperative attitude is even reflected in-game through Yoricks ''Maiden of the Mist'' Ultimate, where he summons her personally to fight alongside him and can deal %Max Health damage if they target the same enemy, but can't be commanded; Yorick can either let her do her own thing or have to be strung along with her.
* FogOfDoom: The semi-sentient, haunting Black Mist native to the Shadow Isles makes up [[BadassCape Yorick's "cape"]]. ''Mourning Mist'' has him chuck a cloud of it at enemies, which attracts the attention of his Mist Walkers.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: His 2016 rework included lines about the Ruined King, who would himself become a playable Champion in 2021.
* FriendlyEnemy: He is listed as one of Mordekaiser's enemies with his rework. Apparently that doesn't stop either of them from forming the Pentakill band and playing in it together.
* GatheringSteam: Yorick is at his best with Mistwalkers around to aid him, increasing his damage and laning power. However, he has to work to reach that point, digging graves with downed enemies to summon Mistwalkers which can be long and painstaking, especially against an aggressive foe.
* GlowingEyelightsOfUndeath[=/=]SupernaturalGoldEyes: An undead gravedigger would fit these tropes, wouldn't he? Undertaker Yorick switches the Gold eyes for [[RedEyesTakeWarning red ones]] instead.
* HealItWithWater: That small vial Yorick keeps around his neck contains the Tears of Life, waters from a sacred spring of the Blessed Isles that managed to survive the ruination and kept Yorick alive. While unable to directly undo the effects of undeath, it still appears to have healing effects, and Yorick believes it will be vital to combating the Shadow Isles' curse.
* HeavyMetal: Is the bassist of the Pentakill band, with Mordekaiser, Sona, Olaf, and Karthus.
* HunterOfHisOwnKind: Yorick is one of the undead of the Shadow Isles, seeking to undo the curse of undeath that was unleashed by the corruption of the Isles. As such, his biggest targets tend to be his fellow undead, whether they originate from the Isles or not.
--> '''Yorick:''' [[http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/4/46/Yorick.tauntRyze01.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830195034 Yours is a fool's errand. The world must be allowed to die.]]
* InstrumentalWeapon: Pentakill Yorick swaps out his [[ShovelStrike monk's spade]] with a bladed bass guitar. Normally, his dance emote has him play AirGuitar with his shovel, but with this skin, he actually plays his riff from Pentakill's "Lightbringer".
* MeaningfulName: His last name is [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memento_mori Mori]]. As for his first name, [[Theatre/{{Hamlet}} where else have we seen a Yorick in a graveyard setting before?]]
* MightyGlacier: As expected of a juggernaut, he's very resilient because otherwise he wouldn't live long enough for his damage to make a difference. He has to get in close and bash someone in tandem with the Maiden of the Mist and his ghouls to really pour on the damage, which is easier if he hits his E on the target to then trap them in his W.
* TheMinionMaster: While he can still pack a wallop on his own, he has likely the greatest focus on [[SummonMagic summoning units]] than any other champion, with his Mist Walkers and Maiden of the Mist building up a significant part of his damage and overall power, the latter potentially excelling at pushing and ''independent'' split-pushing.
* MythologyGag: One of pre-VGU Yorick's most iconic lines was "You will remember Yorick Mori," based around how his important ancestral legacy and line of work was the main driving force [[FateWorseThanDeath keeping him stuck in undeath.]] Come his update, this plot was overhauled without this aspect, but he gets a new line nodding to it for his new circumstance.
-->''"Remember my name. [[TheFogOfAges For one day, I will not.]]"''
* OddFriendship: Is the bassist in a band with Sona, Karthus, and Mordekaiser, and Olaf.
* PurposeDrivenImmortality: He refuses to pass on until the Shadow Isles are cleansed.
* {{Retcon}}: Before his 2016 relaunch, Yorick Mori was pretty much just a lumbering zombie gravedigger of the Shadow Isles, [[FateWorseThanDeath eternally bound to serve his ancestral line of work until he could "bury his quota"]] (what that entails has never been revealed). Following his relaunch, he's since become a much more proactive character, now an undead WarriorMonk who fights to rid the Shadow Isles of their curse.
* RevenantZombie: Fits all the characteristics (no obvious major physical deterioration, retained intelligence and memories, driven by a single all-important purpose), though it's up in the air whether he's actually a true zombie or something else.
* SadisticChoice: In his color story "[[https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/story/yorick-color-story/ Last Rites]]", Yorick encounters a shipwrecked man near death, unaware of what happened to the Isles. As the man pleads for help, Yorick briefly considers using what remains of the [[HealItWithWater Tears of Life]] to heal him, but sadly realizes that he's doomed either way and the waters are too precious to spare, allowing the Black Mist to take him.
* ShoutOutToShakespeare: An obvious one coming from the Lady shrine of the Twisted Treeline: "[[Theatre/{{Hamlet}} Alas, poor Yorick.]]"
* ShovelStrike: His weapon is his shovel, specifically a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monk%27s_spade monk's spade]], a crescent-bladed weapon used by ancient Chinese Buddhist monks that also functioned as shovels to give the dead a proper burial.
* ShutUpHannibal: The majority of Yorick's interactions with the Maiden of the Mist end up like this.
--> '''Maiden of the Mist:''' [[http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/0/09/Yorick.start07.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830194944 There is no hope.]]
--> '''Yorick:''' There is some.
* SoulFragment: [[spoiler:The Maiden is revealed during the Ruined King saga to be a fetter of Isolde's soul, specifically embodying her pain and misery.]]
* TokenGoodTeammate: Of the Shadow Isles champions. Yorick has resisted the corruption of the Shadow Isles for as long as they have existed, and uses his necromantic powers to aid his efforts to break the curse.
* TheUndead: He's not exactly dead, but he sure isn't alive anymore.
* WarriorMonk: Reworked Yorick is specifically based on eastern monks, who carried with them a weapon that doubled as a spade, so that they could defend themselves and others, and also perform burial rites as was their duty, at any time.
* WhatTheHellHero: The Maiden mocks or scolds him for killing, just to weaken his will. Yorick doesn't deny it.
-->''Look at the wrong you do!''
-->''[[IDidWhatIHadToDo It is necessary]].''
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: With his rework, Yorick is invoking this trope on all the undead champions, by force if necessary. He believes death is essential to the world, sees himself as cursed, and fully intends to die--but only ''after'' he's helped other undead souls move on to the Mists. He, at least, fully believes in this trope.
--> '''Yorick:''' [[http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/9/9f/Yorick.tauntSinged01.ogg/revision/latest?cb=20160830195036 You think you want immortality. I'll gladly give you mine.]]
* ZombieApocalypse: The theme of his kit. Once he gets going, Yorick will throw wave after wave of the undead at his foes, with the Maiden of the Mist right behind them. It's ''just'' this side of excusable... and both he and the Maiden clearly know how close to the line he's walking.

->''"Cats are made of twilight and tricks, dogs are made of barks and sticks! Book's just old trees."''

->''A magical cat from Bandle City, Yuumi was once the familiar of a yordle enchantress, Norra. When her master mysteriously disappeared, Yuumi became the Keeper of Norra's sentient Book of Thresholds, traveling through portals in its pages to search for her. Yearning for affection, Yuumi seeks friendly companions to partner with on her journey, protecting them with luminous shields and fierce resolve. While Book strives to keep her on task, Yuumi is often drawn to worldly comforts, such as naps and fish. In the end, however, she always returns to her quest to find her friend.''
\\
Yuumi is an Enchanter champion who specializes in attaching to a single ally and supporting them with helpful magic, jumping from ally to ally to dispense her aid and evade enemies.

* The basis of Yuumi's kit is her second ability, ''[[ShoulderTeammate You and Me!]]''. With it, Yuumi dashes to a nearby allied champion and attaches herself to them, following their movement and becoming untargetable to everything except tower attacks. While in this state, Yuumi becomes unable to attack, but can still use abilities. By reactivating the ability, Yuumi can unattach herself from her ally, or dash to another nearby ally and attach herself to them. While attached to her ''Best Friend'', Yuumi gains bonus healing and shield power, and the ''Best Friend'' receives bonus on-hit healing.
* With her passive, ''Feline Friendship'', Yuumi heals herself and charges a heal for her allies that they will receive once she attaches onto them. Additionally, Yuumi builds ''Friendship'' whenever the ally she's currently attached to kills champions and minions, with each ally having their own individual ''Friendship'' score. While attached to her ''Best Friend'' with the highest current score, Yuumi's abilities deal bonus effects.
* With her first ability, ''[[PlayerGuidedMissile Prowling Projectile]]'', Yuumi fires an erratic missile in a target direction that damages and slows the first enemy it hits. If cast while attached, the projectile will follow the player's mouse, allowing Yuumi to control its flight path to better aim it. If the missile remains in flight for long enough before impact, it will accelerate and deal an even stronger slow.
* Yuumi's third ability, ''[[WhiteMagic Zoomies]]'', shields Yuumi and increases her movement and attack speed for a few seconds. While attached, the shield and speed bonuses are instead granted to her attached ally, as well as restores a portion of mana based off of their missing mana.
* With her ultimate ability, ''Final Chapter'', Yuumi opens up Book and releases a series of waves, and if attached to an ally, she steers the waves towards the player's mouse. Enemies caught in the waves are dealt a stacking slow, while allies caught in the waves are healed, with the heal increasing on the ''Best Friend'', while excess healing is converted into temporary shields. If cast while attached to her ''Best Friend'', they receive bonus armor and magic resistance for the duration of the spell.
\\
Yuumi's alternate skins include [[{{Animesque}} Battle Principal Yuumi]], Heartseeker Yuumi, [[BeeAfraid Yuubee]], [[AllWitchesHaveCats Bewitching Yuumi]], [[UsefulNotes/ProfessionalGaming Edward Gaming Yuumi]], and Shiba Yuumi. ''Wild Rift'' exclusively includes Food Spirits Yuumi.\\
\\
In season 1 of ''Teamfight Tactics'', Yuumi is not a champion at all, but an item (created by combining the Spatula with a Needlessly Large Rod). She grants the champion who equips her the Sorcerer class and large Ability Power boost. She was removed from season 2 along with the Sorcerer class. She makes her debut as a champion proper in season 4 as a Tier 3 Spirit Mystic. Her ''Zoomies'' ability makes her dash to the lowest health ally, healing them based on their missing health and increasing their attack speed for a few seconds. She then does the same to the farthest ally from her current position. She was removed in season 5, returning in season 6 as a Tier 5 Cuddly Academy Scholar. Her Cuddly origin is a trait unique to her that causes Yuumi to attach to the nearest ally at the start of combat, or the lowest health ally after a few seconds of being unattached. Yuumi gives a large damage absorbing shield to allies she attaches to, detaching when the shield is broken. While attached, she also cannot use basic attacks, but is untargetable and generates mana both passively and whenever her host ally uses a basic attack. Her new ability, ''Final Chapter'', has Yuumi detach from her current host and fire multiple waves increasing with her star level toward the farthest enemy, each damaging and briefly stunning enemies they hit, before reattaching to the nearest ally. She was removed along with the Academy and Cuddly traits in the ''Neon Nights'' mid-set update, returning in season 8 using her Heartseeker Yuumi skin as a Tier 2 Star Guardian Mascot Heart. Her ''Prowling Projectile'' ability fires a curving missile towards the furthest enemy in her attack range, dealing magic damage to the first enemy hit. She was removed in the ''Glitched Out!!'' mid-set update.\\
\\
In ''VideoGame/LegendsOfRuneterra'', Yuumi is a 3-mana 2/2 Bandle City Fae Champion with Attach who grants the unit she's Attached to +1/+1 at the start of each round, or grants it to herself if she's not attached. When she or the unit she's Attached to has attacked 3 times she levels up, gaining +1/+1 and Spellshield and also granting herself or the unit she's Attached to Spellshield at the start of each round as well. Her signature spell is Yuumi's Prowling Projectile.

* AnimalJingoism: Yuumi is extremely against [[YouDirtyRat Twitch]], isn't very impressed by the dog-like [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent Warwick]] or Nasus, and the presence of the [[TrademarkFavoriteFood fish]]-like [[OurMermaidsAreDifferent Nami]] and [[FishPeople Fizz]] get her very excited.
* AnimateInanimateObject: Book doesn't speak, but it has a mind of its own, [[TheSilentBob one occasionally at]] [[SilentSnarker odds with Yuumi]]. [[https://twitter.com/Jellbug/status/1126271475294457856 According to Yuumi's writer]], Book was given a sentience enchantment by a previous owner as a defense mechanism, [[SelfGuardingPhlebotinum allowing it to defend itself from falling into the wrong hands]].
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Yuumi may genuinely love her master and will search every corner of Runeterra for her, but she's also ''very'' easily distracted, sometimes chasing mice or taking catnaps at inopportune times, frustrating Book to no end.
* BalanceBuff: The main gameplay fantasy for Yuumi is that she's an easy-to-pick-up, but potent WhiteMage who [[ShoulderTeammate rests on the shoulders of her allies]], making it impossible for enemies to [[ShootTheMedicFirst prioritize killing her]], all while she dispenses out a helpful dose of buffs, poke, and lockdown. However, she ended up developing a greatly polarizing reputation in the years following her release in 2019 due to how non-interactive and disproportionately punishing they could be (at least when she wasn't nerfed into obscurity), with her ''[[PlayerGuidedMissile Prowling Projectile]]'' carrying abnormally high raw damage, her ''Zoomies'' providing instant potent healing at almost zero cost (something that annoyed opponents due to, again, Yuumi's attaching gimmick making it impossible to ShootTheMedicFirst), and ''Final Chapter'' providing devastatingly effective lockdown (enemies hit by three waves became rooted in place, something not hard to do if she's attached onto a mobile ally). Yuumi was given a mid-scope rework in 2023 to tone down her more front-loaded aspects while preserving her overall fantasy -- ''Prowling Projectile'' was tweaked to be more of a consistent slowing poke rather than an actual scaling damage threat, ''Final Chapter'' traded out its ability to immobilize enemies with steering power and [[DamageDiscrimination healing for allies]], and while ''Zoomies'' only now shields allies instead of healing them, said heals have been distributed to other parts of her kit. In addition, the introduction of her ''Best Friend'' mechanic greatly encourages her to stick onto her damage carry, enhancing her strengths while ahead, but also highlighting some more vulnerability by telegraphing to the enemy "Can't Shoot the Medic? [[ShootTheMageFirst Shoot the Carry Instead]]."
* CastingGag: Yuumi isn't the first time Creator/CassandraLeeMorris voiced a [[FunnyAnimal Funny Cat]] [[VideoGame/Persona5 character]]. Good thing this time she's not [[Memes/Persona5 telling the player to go to sleep]]. Add in her Japanese voice being done with Creator/EmiriKatou, that means this is not the first time both of them voiced [[Franchise/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica a magical mascot creature (she does need to 'contract' herself into champions).]] [[spoiler:Good thing no DealWithTheDevil is involved.]]
* CatsHateWater: Moving across the river prompts a pretty strong reaction from Yuumi.
-->''"[[OhCrap Do not drop me, DO NOT DROP ME!]]"''
* CatsHaveNineLives: After a respawn, she sometimes [[DeathIsCheap reminds herself that it's not a problem]] because she has six lives left.
-->'''Yuumi''': ...or was it five?
* ComedicSociopathy: Yuumi isn't exactly [[CatsAreMean mean]], nor is she a particularly damaging champion, but she does occasionally revel in her allies' violence a bit much at times, though it's exclusively PlayedForLaughs.
-->''(while attached to an attacking ally)'' "Now kill 'em! Kill 'em!"
* CuteKitten: She's [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin The Magical Cat]], and she's utterly adorable.
* DemotedToExtra: She did appear in season 1 of ''Teamfight Tactics'', but as an EquippableAlly instead of regular champion. She would only be added as an actual champion in season 4.
* {{Familiar}}: Yuumi's the pet of a yordle enchantress named Norra, and used to travel with her during their expeditions across the various realms. Yuumi's current solo adventures are motivated by tracking down her master after she went missing. Her kit is also based around being a familiar to whatever champion she attaches to, boosting their powers.
* FragileSpeedster: As you might expect from a small cat, Yuumi has some of the lowest base health and defense of any champion, always putting her one wrong step away to being popped by attentive enemies. The tradeoff is that her ability to zoom between allies makes her hard to catch, with the additional shields, healing, and speed she provides able to keep them even more safe.
* FurryReminder: Hooooo boy. If her appearance somehow doesn't get across the fact that Yuumi is just a cat, Riot added a ton of elements they were clearly having a ton of fun coming up with to remind you.
** For starters, while Yuumi spends most of her time speaking English (or any alternate languages in localizations), she also meows on occasion.
** [[StockAnimalDiet She has a persistent appetite for fish]], and has [[AnimalJingoism tenuous reactions around champions resembling fish, dogs, and rats.]]
** She's ReallyFondOfSleeping, often wanting to take naps at very inopportune times.
** She's always on the lookout for a "[[LaserSight red dot]]" and bright lights in general. When coming across [[EnergyWeapon Viktor or Vel'Koz]], she'll assume that they're responsible.
--->''[to [[SniperRifle Caitlyn]]] You must be Red Dot's master!''
** [[CatsHateWater Yuumi gets very nervous floating around the river of Summoner's Rift]], praying to Book that it doesn't drop her.
* {{Irony}}: Yuumi expresses revulsion when attached to Twitch, [[AnimalJingoism a rat champion.]] Twitch also happens to be one of the AD carries she has the most synergy with, as she can go invisible with him and accompany him while he roams, and her ultimate can keep slippery enemies in place from stealth while he bombards them with poison.
* IWillFindYou: Yuumi's motivation is finding her master after she teleported somewhere dangerous and never returned, with the only hint being a shard of her pottery hidden in the Void-infested Shuriman catacombs.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Like every champion since Lulu, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1jXFSj4pTM Yuumi has her own "login" theme]], but notably, she lacks an actual login screen and appearance on the in-game client. This was primarily due to her release coinciding with MSI 2019, the respective Mid-Season trials and introduction of competitive houses, ''and'' the release of Battle Academia skins, all of which were interrelated and ultimately decided to have higher priority (though as consolation, this is why she had a more detailed [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZWEV3bACZo backstory video]]).
* LighterAndSofter: [[https://youtu.be/J0X83lIeez4?t=122 Riot went in creating Yuumi with the intention of making a champion "whose personality and theme [would] be a complete 180 from [their] last support, Pyke."]] As she stands, she's one of the most whimsically lighthearted and unabashedly silly characters in the entire game.
* LoyalPhlebotinum: The Book of Threshold's powers of transporting between the physical and spirit realms requires that it choose you as a "Keeper", [[SelfGuardingPhlebotinum and will steer itself away from those it knows will use it for bad intentions]]. Yuumi is its current Keeper as the two are searching for her master Norra, who Book is still just as loyal to.
* MechanicallyUnusualClass: Her mounted Q is the first skillshot in the game that is completely guided by the mouse, distinct even from the click-drag style used by Viktor and Rumble. Also since Yuumi can bind herself to any ally, many players forgo buying boots or even taking Flash as she can simply rely on her teammates for mobility.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Yuumi is, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin as her title states]], a cat. A magical, [[TalkingAnimal talking]] one who rides on [[SpellBook a magic floating book]], but a housecat nonetheless. This bizarrely makes her distinct among [[BeastMan yordles]] or even other non-humanoid champions like Skarner, Rek'Sai, or Aurelion Sol by looking the most simultaneously cartoony yet (relatively) mundane.
* NotTheIntendedUse: "Carry Yuumi". Yuumi is the one support champion who literally ''cannot'' be moved to a different lane or the jungle, because her stats are so fragile and her abilities so ally-dependent that solo action is totally impossible for her. However, around mid-late Season 9, professional team Fnatic worked out a unique strategy involving pairing her with Garen in the botlane and, while still giving Garen the carry's share of the farm to build up items[[note]]although as a melee champ, he was able to start with a Relic Shield to give Yuumi more gold as well[[/note]], the two could be built as a sort of "mobile turret": Yuumi would build full AP for straight damage, allowing her to rain down constant [[PlayerGuidedMissile Prowling Projectiles]], and combined with Garen's [[MightyGlacier natural tankiness, CC reduction, deadly close-range power]], ''and'' Yuumi's additional supporting powers like Zoomies and Final Chapter, the two could be near-unstoppable. In FNC's first win over Clutch Gaming at Worlds 2019, Yuumi inflicted the most damage of ''any champion in the game,'' and it wasn't even close! This strategy was so unintended that Riot did their level best to {{nerf}} the crap out of it, gutting the damage potential of Prowling Projectile as much as they could get away with.
* PlayerGuidedMissile: Her ''Prowling Projectile'' turns into one when she's Attached to an ally, and is one of the few abilities in the game that continuously follows the mouse. [[StealthPun Probably because]] [[AnimalJingoism she's a cat]].
* PunnyName: "Yuumi" sounds suspiciously close to "you and me," which is not only one of her ability names and a borderline CatchPhrase, but also encapsulates her supporting gameplay of sticking close to her friends as much as possible. Indeed, [[https://twitter.com/jellbug/status/1121915115098427392?s=21 the canonical reason she's called Yuumi is because she misinterpreted Norra saying "you [...] me" and assumed it was her name.]]
* ReallyFondOfSleeping: Wouldn't be a CuteKitten without a fondness for catnaps, even if the times she decides to do so are pretty inappropriate.
-->''"If I didn't have to protect Book, I'd just be a normal magical cat floating around Bandle City! Okay, napping around Bandle City."''
* ShootTheMedicFirst: Actively [[DefiedTrope defied]]. As much as one would ''want'' to kill Yuumi first, with her ability to give allies bursts of healing and root enemies en masse with her ultimate, ''You and Me'' makes this all but impossible as she becomes untargetable for as long as she remains attached to an ally for. By level 11, this ability has ''no cooldown'', allowing her to instantly hide behind another ally if her current one dies, meaning in most circumstances, the only way Yuumi is going down is if every ally around her dies first.
* ShoulderTeammate: Yuumi "attaching" to teammates manifests as her hovering to their side and automatically following them until she leaves for something else, even with things like recalls or the Teleport summoner spell.
* SkillGateCharacters: Yuumi is one of those champions whose win rate drops the higher up the skill bracket you go. While her easy-to-land poke and seemingly endless supply of healing and shields that can't be dealt with by focusing her down first can make her infuriating to fight for some, more experienced players can take advantage of her lack of kill pressure or roaming potential to throw their weight around all over the map, securing a lead for their team while Yuumi can't do much but babysit a carry that's not in any real danger to begin with.
* SpellBook: The Book of Thresholds, affectionately named [[ADogNamedDog "Book"]], allows its reader [[{{Teleportation}} to instantly teleport anywhere in the world depicted in its pages]]. [[AnimateInanimateObject It's also sapient and likes to act on its own]]. Formerly owned by Yuumi's master Norra, as well as several other past yordle mages who have explored and researched the various gateways to and from Bandle City.
* SquishyWizard: Yuumi is a Justified example; magical or not, [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration she's just a little housecat.]] - she has ''the'' lowest base HP pool in the entire game by a ''long'' way[[note]]with the exception of Kled, but he's a special case because he also gets Skaarl's HP as well so he ''has'' to be squishy when dismounted for balance purposes[[/note]] and also has the lowest MR in the game too[[note]]one of only two champions to have less than 30 base MR, the other being, oddly, Orianna[[/note]]- she almost makes Sona look like a tank.
* SupportPartyMember: Yuumi is an "Enchanter" champion, [[WhiteMage a type of support champion who focuses on buffing and healing their allies]], as opposed to "Catchers", whose job it is to disrupt and lock down enemies. Notably, Yuumi is the first Enchanter released since Nami, over ''six years'' prior.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: [[StockAnimalDiet Fish]], to a point where finding as much of it as possible is as much a priority as finding her master. Her champion trailer has her almost caught by Fizz's ultimate ''Chum the Waters'', since he casts it by throwing a fish at the target location. A ThreateningShark soon follows, which would have caught Yuumi had Book not pulled her back.
-->''(attaching to a fish-like champion)'' "[[CarnivoreConfusion You smell]] [[FurryConfusion tasty]]!"

--> '''Xayah''': Ugh, I hate everyone today.\\
-->'''Xayah''': "I'm so tired... "
-->'''Rakan:''': "You gotta rest, honey."
-->'''Xayah''': "Everyone is depending on me."
-->'''Rakan''': "Everyone can wait."
* {{Tsundere}}: Was initially this toward Rakan in her bio.
* WingedHumanoid: Well, one giant wing on her left. This is poked fun at in her joke emote, showing [[WingsDoNothing it's not strong enough for her to actually fly]].

--> ''[[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/2/2e/Xerath.move5.ogg "I am eternal."]]''
* LavaAddsAwesome: Scorched Earth Xerath.

--> ''[[http://images.wikia.com/leagueoflegends/images/d/d9/XinZhao.move5.ogg "A Demacian does not retreat!"]]''

-->''(using Fate Sealed)'' "Nothing personal!"\\

->''"These isles... How they scream."''

--> '''Yorick:''' There is some.
-->''[[IDidWhatIHadToDo It is necessary]].''

----
* AnimalJingoism: Yuumi is extremely against [[YouDirtyRat Twitch]], isn't very impressed by the dog-like [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent Warwick]] or Nasus, and the presence of the [[TrademarkFavoriteFood fish]]-like [[OurMermaidsAreDifferent Nami]] and [[FishPeople Fizz]] get her very excited.
-->'''Yuumi''': ...or was it five?
