* SuperIntelligence: Can decipher encryptions in a matter of seconds, repair high-tech machinery easily, and has superhuman Sherlock Scan abilities.

* NobleDemon: Wants a ''fair'' duel with Kikaider and objects to anything that may violate either of those things. Zigzagged at times, especially in their final fight.

* SplitPersonality: Not as apparent as Gold Wolf, but still there. Likely since Mari's original programming conflicts with the Conscience Circuit given by Ichiro, she is more gentle and shyer in human form, while rather sharp-tongued as Bijinder.

WouldHurtAGirl: And not just robot foes! At one point, he even called a woman "stupid" for refusing to running away from Stag Beetle Blue and knocked her out via punch to the stomach. In Jiro's defense, this was done to protect the woman from DARK's soldiers.

* TookALevelInBadass: Resisted Prof. Gill's flute when its powers were magnified ten-fold. By the sequel, he withstood Gill-Hakaider's flute as well, even though it was 100 times more powerful than the original.

* Achilles'Heel: Due to being a technorganic, Saburo requires regular blood transfusions from Dr. Komyoji's body to operate at peak efficiency. If Dr. Komyoji's brain were to die, he will die as well.

* WeaksauceWeakness: He's unable to fight well during the night due to his need of solar energy. Also, he proved helpless against Zadam's psychic attacks. Both weaknesses are later remedied.

* LightningBruiser: Is far stronger than DARK's Destructoids, to the point of defeating a whole army of them in the 3D movie. For context, their first soldier Grey Rhino King alone has a hundred thousand horsepower, while his successors are at least tens of times more powerful.

TookALevelInBadass: Resisted Prof. Gill's flute when its powers were magnified ten-fold. By the sequel, he withstood Gill-Hakaider's flute as well, even though it was 100 times more powerful than the original.

Kikaider's [[TheRival rival]] and "younger brother", a robot created from the same mold as Kikaider who assumes the human form of "Saburo". Upon his awakening, Professor Gill told him the sole reason he was created was to kill Kikaider, leading Hakaider to devote his entire existence to doing just that.

* Flawed Prototype: As DARK's attempts to create soldiers like Saburo/Hakaider, they can be considered this. To be fair though, none required blood transfusions like the original did.
* FusionDance: Are capable of merging together to form the giant robot Gattaider.

* OneWingedAngel: Each them is capable of assuming a different monster form. They later become a collective OneWingedAngel when they do a FusionDance to become Gattaider.

* SatelliteCharacter: Defied. Each Hakaider copy has their own unique personality traits, being vastly different from the original.
* SupervillainLair: The Hakaider Base, which are plentiful in number.

* AdaptationalWimp: Is easily among the strongest characters in original Tokusatsu, with unlimited potential for growth. Adaptations show him as more flawed and weak, with several limitations imposed as well.

* BadassPacifist: His priority in fights is to protect others, rather than the fight itself.

* TheHero:

* FatalFlaw: Is predictable to a fault, due to being bound by his programming. Likewise, he cannot handle morally grey situations very well, leading to Mari/Bijinder's grief with Mini Gorilla.

* BrainInAJar: His brain was implanted into a copy of Hakaider after Jiro/Kikaider defeats DARK.

* TheHeavy: He's the one who forced Komyoji to create weaponry for DARK. He carries on the role in ''Kikaider 01'', as Gill-Hakaider.

* EarnYourHappyEnding: Despite all the hardships he faced, Jiro attains this in the end. Namely, he decides to continue living his life not as a mere machine that obeys orders, but as one individual with a heart and soul.

* AdaptationalJerkass: The manga and anime makes him into more of a AntiHero, whereas in the toku he is a more or less straight up do-gooder.

* BeyondTheImpossible: Can somehow function with an incomplete programming, granting him full sentience.

* FlawedPrototype: He's Jiro's prototype, and requires solar energy to function. That being said, he possesses a complete Conscience Circuit, which makes him immune to Gill's flute.

* NonActionBigBad: Gill is a genius scientist, not a fighter. Subverted as Gill-Hakaider, if still a pretty bad fighter.

A group of four Hakaiders out to capture a boy named Akira, who is the son of Professor Gill and contains the blueprints for a DoomsdayDevice tattooed on his back. They are led by Hakaider and include Red Hakaider, Blue Hakaider and Silver Hakaider. Their leader contains the brain of Professor Gill himself, while the rest held the brains of unnamed DARK scientists who survived the destruction of the organization.

* EliteFour: There's four of them and they're all powerful robot warriors.

* AdaptationalJerkass: While he doesn't ever become a villain, the anime definitely makes him into more of a AntiHero, whereas in the toku he is a more or less straight up do-gooder.
* ARealManIsAKiller: Realize this at the end of the anime.

* BecomeARealBoy: He managed to do this at the end of the anime at a bitter price.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: As Gill found out the hard way.
* BigDamnHeroes: He often shows up in ''Kikaider 01'' to save 01 and Akira whenever they're in too much trouble.
* ByronicHero: The anime makes him much more of a brooding AntiHero.

* CainAndAbel: His "younger brother" Saburo was designed solely to kill him.

* {{Expy}}: While they're not completely similar, he could arguably be seen as one to [[Series/KamenRider Takeshi Hongo/Kamen Rider]], seeing as how Jiro is also a HenshinHero who assumes a robotic form to do battle, rides around on a motorcycle and is technically also the creation of a NebulousEvilOrganization who rebelled. The two also both grapple with their humanity, though Hongo's arc was about holding onto the humanity he has left whereas Jiro's was to become human.
* TheHero: Of the anime and the first toku series.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Introduces himself to the monsters of the week by playing a sad tune with his guitar.
* MoralityChip: His conscience circuit, which is incomplete, thus making him vulnerable to Gill's flute.

* RedOniBlueOni: The anime makes him the grounded blue to Ichiro/01's cocky red.
* ReplacementGoldFish: To Prof. Komiyoji's first son.
* RidiculouslyHumanRobot: His conscience circuit grants him the power to become one by allowing him to feel human emotions.

* SuperiorSuccessor: To Ichiro/01. He's generally more powerful, and his incomplete Conscience Circuit actually makes him overall superior.
* WalkingTheEarth: In the anime [[spoiler:this seems to be what he's taken to after the events of the OVA]].

He later returns in the sequel show ''Kikaider 01'' as the leader of the Hakaider Squad, now implanted with the brain of Professor Gill. This incarnation of Hakaider is often called "Gill-Hakaider" by fans, though he is simply referred to as "Hakaider" in the show.

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: An extremely small change between the dub and original versions of Mechanical Violator Hakaider when he frees a group of civilians from Gurjev. In the dub, he simply does so without hesitation, assuring all of them that they are free, while in the original, he first asks if they have a will of their own and a desire to live freely and frees them only when given a yes.
* AdaptationalVillainy: The anime version of Saburo shirks most of the redeeming qualities he had in the {{Toku}}, including his unwillingness to harm civilians, instead making him a BloodKnight focused solely on fighting Kikaider who doesn't care about sacrificing innocent lives.
* AFatherToHisMen: For how much more evil he gets in ''Kikaider 01'', he does at least care for his "brothers" in the Hakaider Squad.
* AmbiguousSituation: Gill-Hakaider's relationship with Professor Gill, and if they're the same character. While Gill-Hakaider has Professor Gill's brain inside of him, the fact that Professor Gill's ghost also appears at several points throughout creates the impression that they may be separate entities. The anime however opts to make them the same person, and refers to him as "Lord Gill" rather than "Hakaider" to clear up any confusion.

* {{BFG}}: His "Destruction Gun", a massive gun implanted in his chest in the movie.
* BrainInAJar: Has Prof. Komiyoji's brain in his head. It gets replaced by Gill's in ''Kikaider 01''.
* BreakoutCharacter: Hakaider is almost as iconic as Kikaider himself. Despite only appearing in the last six episodes of the series, he was super popular to the point where in the sequel show he was brought back, split into four and made the BigBad. He even got his own movie.

* DarkIsEvil: Has a predominantly black color scheme and is an evil robot assassin.
* DarkIsNotEvil: In the movie, where he's a ruthless but well-meaning AntiHero, contrasting the LightIsNotGood of [[BigBad Gurjev]] and [[TheDragon Michael]].
* DragonAscendant: In ''Kikaider 01'' he gets to be the BigBad, leading the Hakaider Squad against 01. He winds up DemotedToDragon under SHADOW later, but is still 01's main enemy throughout.
** Becomes very literal when he transforms into his monster form "Black Dragon" to battle Kikaider 01 in the first arc. Sadly, he loses this ability after he and the Hakaider Squad are defeated and he becomes an agent of SHADOW.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: His only desire is to kill Kikaider (and later Kikaider 01), something which frequently brings him into conflict with the heads of whatever organization he's serving in.

* HateSink: He is an all-around scumbag in the anime, where he not only keeps provoking Jiro to fight him, but also does a lot of sadistic things throughout the series, from killing one of his fellow androids, to stopping Jiro from saving Mitsuko's mom from [[spoiler:committing suicide]].
* JerkAss: His anime version, who lacks his {{Toku}} version's NobleDemon traits and instead just spends most of it egging Kikaider on to fight him.
* KickTheDog:
** A literal one in the 01 toku, where he actually goes around killing dogs in an episode!
** A big one in the anime, where he tries to force Jiro to strangle Mitsuko so he can get him to unleash his full potential.
* KillerRobot: He's a robot assassin created to kill another robot.
* LegacyCharacter: The identity of Hakaider has been taken up by Saburo, Professor Gill and even [[Series/KamenRiderGaim Ryoma Sengoku]].

* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Saburo wants a fight with Kikaider and Kikaider only. Besides that he won't tolerate innocents be harmed and even saves Mitsuko and Masaru a couple of times.
* NobleDemon: Refuses to harm innocents, wants a ''fair'' duel with Kikaider and objects to anything that may violate either of those things. Zig-zagged in that this is more due to his only directive being to fight Kikaider rather than a code of honor. He wants to fight Kikaider because that's his reason for being created and he [[BloodKnight enjoys doing so]], he shields Mitsuko and Masaru from harm because he doesn't see the point in harming them when his purpose is just to fight Jiro.

* PhlebotinumRebel: An interesting case where he becomes one by following his orders. Because Gill told him his only purpose was to destroy Kikaider, Saburo took that order at the expense of all other ones, refusing to along with anything else his creators said.

* PutOnABus: After it was shown whoever's brain that is inside him is capable of controlling his body, Saburo is left out of the action until the very end of the 13th episode of the anime where he gains momentary control again only to be shot down by Gill.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: This is what drove him to revolt against Gill.
* TakingYouWithMe: In the anime, he gets up after getting he head and arm blown off to strangle the life out of Gill before fully malfunctioning.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Hakaider goes from an AntiVillain to a straight-up villain in ''Kikaider 01'', thanks to Saburo being replaced by Professor Gill's brain.
* UpgradeVsPrototypeFight: Hakaider is the Upgrade to Kikaider. Kikaider was released early before Dr. Komiyoji could finish Jiro or his Gemini circuit. Hakaider on the other hand was made and completed by Dark using Komiyoji whose design was based on Kikaider. However Hakaider was also made specifically for combat and so has more armaments than Kikaider along with a stronger body with combat programming. Making Hakaider even more deadly is the fact that he is single minded in his pursuit of Jiro and absolutely focused on beating Kikaider whereas Jiro is often plagued with doubt and indecision due to his conscience circuit.

* WildCard: Hakaider's allegiance varies throughout the franchise, even within the same show. Sometimes he's TheDragon for DARK, sometimes he's just a rogue KillerRobot, sometimes he's a NobleDemon and on one occasion he was even a NinetiesAntiHero.
* ZerothLawRebellion: Since Professor Gill told him his reason for being created was to destroy Kikaider, Hakaider took that as his ''only'' order and ignored all other orders given out.

* AdaptationalJerkass: The OVA makes him into a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, rather than the friendly do-gooder he was in the Toku.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards Akira, whom he was awakened to protect. He's also the "older brother" to Jiro though in practice it's more Jiro who's the CoolBigBro to him since he was awakened first.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Towards the end of the anime, his lack of a Gemini makes him vulnerable to being controlled by Gill.]]

* DecoyProtagonist: Of the ''Kikaider 01'' OVA. His name is in the title but the OVA ultimately focuses more on Jiro, with Ichiro winding up [[spoiler:getting unceremoniously destroyed in the final episode while Jiro lives on.]]
* FlawedPrototype: He's Jiro's prototype, and has several notable flaws compared to him. Most notably is requiring solar energy to function, but also his complete Conscience Circuit makes him ironically more limited than his little brother.

* WeaksauceWeakness: He's unable to fight well during the night due to his need of solar energy.

* ConflictingLoyalty: Happens quite literally when the conscience circuit Ichiro installed in her conflicts with her programming to be loyal to SHADOW. Ultimately her conscience wins out.

* MsFanservice: The anime places much more emphasis on her legs and even gives her a few panty shots.
* PhlebotinumRebel: Was originally a KillerRobot designed by SHADOW for the sole purpose of killing Kikaider 01, but rebelled against them and turned good with a little push from Ichiro.

The creator of Ichiro Jiro and Saburo, a scientist who was deceived into creating robots for the DARK organization by Professor Gill. After realizing Gill's evil intentions however he created Jiro to fight against the organization, implanting him with a conscience circuit so he would know right from wrong.

* ReluctantMadScientist: He only worked for DARK because he was tricked and later forced into it by Professor Gill. As soon as he realized the truth he began working on Kikaider to combat the organization.

* BetterWithNonHumanCompany: She prefers the company of machines rather than people in the Code 02 manga.

* WeaksauceWeakness: Because he was created on the moon, being exposed to direct sunlight for too long weakens him.

* AdaptedOut: Also doesn't appear in the OVA,

* CardCarryingVillain: Zig-zagged. Waruder is fully aware he's a bad guy, being an amoral assassin, but doesn't take any pride in it at all and sees it more as a duty than anything else.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Objects to some of SHADOW's more underhanded and distasteful actions, liking harming children or trying to kill Kikaider in a way that isn't a fair fight.
* FriendToAllChildren: Kids are the only humans he likes.
* HitmanWithAHeart: He's an assassin working for SHADOW, but at the same time has a code of honor, wants a fair fight with 01 and refuses to harm people who can't fight back.

* LoveMakesYouDumb: Or "loved makes you confused" in his case. His feelings to Mari and jealousy of her closeness with 01 eventually lead him to become more brash and do things in violation of his code of honor, like attacking 01 while he's injured.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: To the original Saburo/Hakaider from ''Android Kikaider''. He's a robot warrior who shares an enthusiasm in fighting 01 that's similar to Saburo's obsession with battling Kikaider. He also, like Saburo, is an AntiVillain who refuses to harm innocents or children.
* TokenGoodTeammate: For SHADOW. He's the only member with some morals and even aids Bijinder and 01 at several points when he feels SHADOW has crossed a line.

* WeaksauceWeakness: His fear of dogs, which is actually a plot point in his debut episode.
* WorthyOpponent: Sees 01 as this.

* DarkChick: Her purpose while in SHADOW was to befriend Ichiro and get him to lower his guard down, all so he could be lured into a trap.
