* {{Determinator}}: His intense crush on Chiyo drives most of his actions throughout the series. He engineers his breakout from the prison solely to go on a date with her, and sacrifices his [[SacredFirstKiss first makeout session]] to Hana in order to further the boys' data-gathering plan to save themselves from expulsion. All so that he may continue attending the same school as Chiyo.
* TheEveryman: Compared to the rest of the boys he's rather plain, at least at first glance. He doesn't have an obvious quirk like the rest of them, he's a huge pervert but not at the level of his friends, he tends to be the most rational of the group, and his main love interest is also rather plain compared to those of his friends.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: He gets [[AssShove stabbed in his anus twice]], bleeding profusely both times. The first time he didn't even notice it until someone told him, and the second time he plays it off like it's nothing.
* NiceGuy: This is the main reason why Chiyo, Hana and possibly even [[spoiler:Mari]] all have crushes on him.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Even Kiyoshi falls prey to his perverted desires at times and like the rest of the boys, deserves the resulting punishment for it.
* StraightMan: Kiyoshi is undoubtably the most normal of the boys, but he can still just as quickly join in with their absurd antics, even encourage them.

* AntiquatedLinguistics: He speaks in a very archaic manner, pretentiously so.
* ButtMonkey: He's frequently on the receiving end on a lot of slapstick. He gets punished the most of all the boys by the USC. In a few cases he doesn't even do anything to deserve being punished. For the sake of getting his Guan Yu action figure he craps his pants and gets in enough trouble to get his long hair shaved. [[spoiler: The sad part is that later on he ends up having to smash the figure.]]
* {{Determinator}}: When it comes to getting his Guan Yu action figure no price is too high for Gakuto. He willingly craps his pants in the one class the boys have with female students, ruining any chances he has to get a girlfriend. Later on, he purposefully gets in trouble to get his long hair cut so Kiyoshi can use the hair as a wig.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: After having his head shaved, he retains a crew cut for the rest of the series.
* JapaneseHonorifics: He often refers to others with -dono.
* NeverLiveItDown: InUniverse. Crapping his pants in class did terrible things to his already bad reputation. It earns him the nickname "shitty four-eyes" used frequently by Meiko, and even his friends can't resist poking fun at him for it well after the fact.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: He abuses this look constantly, especially when he's acting melodramatic.
* TheStrategist: He refers to himself as a "modern day tactician" and he's not wrong. He comes up with the most plans in the series and Kiyoshi probably wouldn't have been able to break out of prison were it not for his assistance. Later on all the boys count on him to come up with a plan to keep them from being expelled several times.
* VerbalTic: He ends his sentences with -degozaru.

The blonde delinquent of the five male students. Down the line, Shingo enters an on-off relationship with a girl classmate in Anzu Yokoyama.

* FaceOfAThug: He's noted to have the looks of a delinquent even though he's anything but. Mostly because of his [[DelinquentHair blonde slicked back hair]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: He gets angry at Kiyoshi for scheming behind the rest of the boys' backs to go on a date with Chiyo. Not too long after he schemes behind their backs as well by becoming a spy for the USC.
* RestrainedRevenge: Had this administered to him by the others. Of course, when he revealed that his spying duty had him spending time with a pretty girl, it became a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown.
* TheStoolPigeon: He becomes a spy for the USC. In exchange for getting information about his friends he gets good food, the USC no longer punishes him, and he gets to leave school under the guise that he's running errands for the USC.
** HeelRealization: [[spoiler:He eventually comes to feel horrible about screwing over his friends and stops being the USC's mole]].

!!Jouji Nezo "Jo"

The hooded oddball of the five male students. Jo is one who struggles to fit in, but was finally able to find a bright spot after being befriended by a girl classmate, Satou.

* BerserkButton: He's quiet and likes to keep to himself but he can get extremely violent if someone messes with his ants. He nearly stabs Andre with a fork for accidentally knocking over his ant farm and nearly stabs Mari with a piece of a branch when she tricks him into believing her crows ate his ants.
* TheFaceless: The top portion of his face is never shown, as he's usually wearing a hoodie or just a hood. In cases where he's not wearing something over his head there's still something that manages to obscure the top portion. In the showers it was soap foam, and when [[spoiler: he was disguised as Gakuto he had bandages wrapping his hair and tinted glasses.]]
* FriendToBugs: He likes insects, owning an ant farm with individually named ants!
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: Averted as he has severe stomatitis which causes him to cough a lot, even cough blood in a few situations, but it doesn't seem life-threatening and it's even used for comedy most of the time.
* InTheHood: He's the quietest of the boys and is always wearing a face-obscuring hoodie.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: He ends up having difficulty readjusting to life on the outside again.

The big fat guy of the five male students. Andre is actually a huge masochist, a hobby that has put him in bizarre interactions with the Underground Student Council's Meiko Shiraki, and the Official Student Council's Risa Bettou.

* {{Gonk}}: All the characters in the series are normal looking with the exception of Andre who is large, has an egg shaped body, a face that is way too small for the rest of his head, and over-sized Buddha-like earlobes.
* SanitySlippage: Goes off the deep end and becomes a raving lunatic once [[spoiler: Risa convinces him that Meiko's formerly dominating persona has permanently regressed. The only time he regains his sanity is when his ideal version of Meiko is in front of him but this only lasts a couple of seconds at best.]]
* TooKinkyToTorture: He loves being abused by women, especially Meiko. At some point he gets addicted to Meiko's punishment, which is something the USC realizes and exploits by having Meiko stop doing so, which causes him to go crazy. It also means that Risa has difficulty dealing with him because unlike Meiko, she practices some level of restraint to her punishment. Later, Risa manages to gain control over Andre when she finds the "right" level of punishment.

The president of the Underground Student Council. Mari has a huge disdain of boys, and a rather odd past with the Official Student Council's Keito Takenomiya.

* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She has long dark blue hair, fair skin, an icy-cold disposition ([[VillainousBreakdown as long as things are going her way]]), and is popular among the student body.
* TheBeastmaster: Has a flock of crows under her control that she's able to use for things like surveillance to enforce her rule about not talking to the boys and to attack people. During the second half of the story, she doesn't employ this "power" for some reason.
* BigBad: She's in charge of the boys' discipline and is the main reason why their stay in the prison gets progressively more hellish. Later on she devises a plan to get them expelled. Despite her impact she rarely interacts with the boys, instead she lets her CoDragons Meiko and Hana handle the disciplining. Later subverted when she's forced to join the boys side and Keito takes over this role for the second half of the story.
* CharacterDevelopment: Thanks to Kiyoshi, Mari slowly starts to realize that not all boys are just perverts and can actually be admirable when they want to be.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: When we first meet her, she's cold, aloof, manipulative, willing to do anything to get the boys expelled and is harsh with Meiko whenever she fails. Later though, it's revealed that Mari is mostly a good person deep down, can take losses well, and is very close with Meiko, which explains her [[UndyingLoyalty loyalty to her]].
* TheChessmaster: She comes up with the plan OBE (operation boy's expulsion) to manipulate the boys into getting themselves into more trouble, and get two more breakouts out of them so they would be candidates for expulsion.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Like her sister, who's are all brown, Mari's hair and eyes are all blue.
* DoesNotLikeMen: She holds the belief that men such as the boys and her father are unabashed perverts who cannot be allowed to run free. Over time, however, she subverts this trope, thanks to hanging out with Kiyoshi [[spoiler: in prison,]] even smiling in his presence and at times, blushing over him. This does not go unnoticed by Chiyo.
* DopeSlap: During the second half of the story where [[spoiler: she's locked up in prison]] with Kiyoshi, she resorts to hitting him whenever Kiyoshi does something perverted or stupid.
* FaceFault:
** She has a pretty epic one when [[spoiler: slutty!Chiyo informs Kiyoshi that she (Chiyo) isn't wearing any panties.]]
** This also usually happens whenever Kiyoshi does something perverted to her.

** She's humbled after the boys completely turn the tables on her [[spoiler:by exposing her scheme to get them expelled. She admits to her wrong-doing, takes a punch for Kiyoshi from an enraged Hana, and tries to take all of the blame by stating that she forced Hana and Meiko into the plan so the latter two won't get in trouble.]]
** Even more, unlike Meiko and Hana, she takes the punishment by the Student council with little resistance.
* KnightTemplar: After Kiyoshi's breakout she decides that the rest of the boys, who weren't even aware of Kiyoshi's plan, are also a threat to the school and forms plans to manipulate them into getting in trouble.
* MisplacedRetribution: Whenever she gets angry at her father she takes out that frustration on the boys.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Mari can be silly at times too; she even voices with pride that she's still a virgin to Kiyoshi and Chiyo's faces. The most extreme example is when she gets into an [[spoiler: [[ItMakesSenseInContext Ouroboros position with Kiyoshi to suck out snake poison]] which to third parties looks as though [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything they're sucking each other out.]]]]

The vice president of the Underground Student Council. Meiko was once a shy-girl who hated her large breasts, but became a strong, and confident, woman after meeting Mari.

* BerserkButton: She's already a violent person but attacking or embarrassing Mari immediately sends her into a fit of rage.
* BoobsOfSteel: She's easily the strongest character in the series. Accomplishing such feats as effortlessly breaking a restroom stall with one kick, winning five arm wrestling matches against boys in a row, and 49 pull-ups just using her fingers. She also has the largest breasts in the series, with most characters not even close to half her size.
* CustomUniformOfSexy: Other than thigh high socks and stiletto heeled boots she wears her school's standard female uniform. The main difference is that most of her shirt is unbuttoned, revealing her cleavage and then some, and her skirt is so short that even slightly bending over reveals her panties.
* DCupDistress: She used to resent her large breasts because of all the teasing she got because of them when she was younger. At one point she wore a {{sarashi}} [[HiddenBuxom to bind them]] ([[WardrobeMalfunction which didn't work]]). Fortunately, Mari helped her get over the resentment.
* MsFanservice: The majority of the series' fanservice comes from her, mostly in the form of MaleGaze. Most of the panels she's depicted in center around or are closeups of her breasts, crotch, and butt regardless of the context.

* PetTheDog: While she has been the cruelest of the USC to the boys, she is the only one to do something nice for them by offering them a last meal the day before their expulsion should have been decided on.
* PrimAndProperBun: She has her hair in a bun at all times. She's shown to be very strict and formal, and she does not hesitate to use her whips on the boys for any kind of misbehavior.
* ATasteOfTheLash: Her preferred method of punishment is to whip the boys with her riding crop.
* {{Trigger}}: As a child she was constantly bullied by Keito and other students for her unusually large breasts, with Keito making up a song to make fun of them. While Mari was able to convince her to take pride in her large breasts she still has mental scars from Keito's bullying as she freezes up anytime someone sings Keito's song.
* UndyingLoyalty: She is extremely loyal to Mari. In a couple instances she questions Mari's decisions but goes along with them anyway.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Despite her domineering personality in the present story, flashback chapters show that she used to be a massive pushover in elementary school. [[spoiler: The trauma of believing she started a fire that killed some baby crows causes her to revert back her old submissive self.]]
* WorkoutFanservice: Anytime she exercises since she usually does her workouts in her revealing school uniform, her large breasts tend to flop around a lot, she sweats so much it makes her clothes transparent and as with most of her panels, the focus tends to be on her breasts and crotch.

* AdaptationalCurves: She's noticeably more well endowed in the anime, or at least in the [[http://i.imgur.com/aScqNfu.jpg official scans/art]], than she is in the manga.
* BerserkButton: Whenever she learns of Kiyoshi supposedly sharing their perverted experiences with others, she loses her temper and immediately tracks down Kiyoshi in order to punish him. This usually ends up backfiring on her and only causes her to get all the more invested.
* BettyAndVeronica: With regards to Kiyoshi, the "Veronica" to Chiyo's "Betty".
* ButtMonkey: Bad things happen whenever she's around Kiyoshi. She's been caught urinating outside, urinated on, faints when an erect penis touches between her legs and her last attempt at getting revenge on Kiyoshi [[spoiler:gave the boys an opportunity to get the evidence that brings down the USC.]]

** Hana gets really angry when Kiyoshi thinks of and/or interacts with another girl intimately. This is mostly associated with Chiyo and also included [[spoiler:Mari when Hana learns of her Ouroboros experience with Kiyoshi; she ends up punching Mari for this act and later cries to Kiyoshi when she notes that Kiyoshi had no problem doing this with Mari but is hesitant to do it with her.]]
** Later during the School Festival, Hana finally [[spoiler:gets her wish and pees on Kiyoshi. As they both get dressed, they realize that in the heat of the moment, they accidentally switched underwear with each other. While intending to give it back to him, she sees how happy he is wearing a headband from Chiyo and insists that he continues to wear her panties, much to his confusion.]]

[[spoiler: But like most of her attempts at revenge this one ends up backfiring on her, as Kiyoshi realizes that she's extremely innocent when it comes to romance and overwhelms her by turning the kiss into a make out session which causes her to faint.]]
* SanitySlippage: Her repeated and humiliating failures at revenge cause her to become more and more obsessed with finally getting it. It reaches a breaking point after she remembers what happened when she and Kiyoshi hid under a bed in the nurse room. (Kiyoshi got an erection from being so close to her when they were both bottomless and unintentionally touched her ''there'' with it, causing her to faint.) The memories cause her to try to barge into a meeting between the boys and the chairman with a knife in hand. Fortunately, Meiko was able stop her.
* SympathyForTheDevil: Her breakdown in the guardroom makes Kiyoshi realize that despite her remorseless cruelty to him and his friends, she really has been seriously upset by the above accidents. He even offers to let her hit him if it'll make her feel better. It's later revealed that her punishment could have been a lot worse had Kiyoshi not refused to press charges against her for attacking him.
* ThirdWheel: She's somewhat resentful of the fact that Mari and Meiko have known each other for much longer and seem to have a closer friendship to each other than they do her. [[spoiler: Along with a some blackmail, Keito takes advantage of these feelings to get her to split from the USC and join the regular student council. [[ReverseMole Or at least so it initially seems.]]]]
* TrueCompanions: While she's jealous of the closeness that Mari and Meiko have together, nevertheless she will do everything in her power to protect them from any abuse. The same is true in reverse. [[spoiler:Keito herself was surprised when she's reveals that she only [[ReverseMole pretended to betray her friends and went to join Keito's inner circle]], telling Keito that the bonds between the three of them are too strong to break.]]

** Keito tries projecting that she's a serious know-it-all but when she comes across something she doesn't understand, she takes great liberties to look it up. Whenever Mari uses certain words in different languages, Keito is later seen with a dictionary looking up the word.
** When filming Kiyoshi and Mari [[spoiler: fighting off the snakes in the bathroom and Mari is bitten near her...inner thighs, she and Mari are taken aback when they hear from Kiyoshi that a human being cannot make their mouths reach that far.]] Next chapter opens with her trying to do just that out of sheer curiosity.
* NotSoDifferent: To Mari in many ways: both are presidents of their respective council, both can be scheming, both can kick ass when they feel they need to and both have close relationships with their vice-presidents. Similar to how Mari first met Meiko and empowered her to be better, Keito is the same for Risa.
* OjouRinglets: Even her eyelashes have curls! Unusually for this trope, her standout ringlets are used to illustrate a [[RichBitch cruel personality]] rather than a kind one, being juxtaposed with the coils of a snake [[http://raw.senmanga.com/Prison_School/127/ at least once.]]

* PetTheDog: Despite being the [[BigBad main antagonist for the second part of the story]], Keito is genuinely friendly towards those she considers her friends, thus showing that she's not completely irredeemable. Case in point, she sticks up for Risa when they first met and cheers her up whenever she's feeling down; in fact, Keito makes it known that Risa is undoubtedly her best friend.
* PsychoLesbian: [[spoiler:Not that any of the straight characters in this story are exactly paragons of sanity, but at least they haven't been revealed to have been dressing up as their hatecrush with a wig and a set of their stolen underwear!]]

In her case, it's more that her punishment is slightly more restrained compared to Meiko, whose unrestrained cruelty is perfect for [[TooKinkyToTorture Andre]]. She does eventually come to learn how to placate Andre.
** Despite her looks, Risa is still a ''girl'' and can be freaked out whenever the boys, particularly Andre and Kiyoshi, do something really perverted in front of her.
* NotSoDifferent: From Meiko in a variety of ways: both are the vice-presidents of their respective council, both fulfill Andre's desire for punishment, both can kick ass, and both consider the person they're following orders from to be their dearest friend (Meiko towards Mari, Risa towards Keito).
* SanitySlippage: Thanks to [[spoiler: Kiyoshi's]] perverted {{Gaslighting}}. She also freaks out during the school festival when one of the events asks her to bring a certain item to the table; in her case, a "friend". Due to Risa's insecurities over her appearance and demeanor, she starts panicking over this prospect and even considers bringing her ''shinai'' as a "friend" before she wisely dismisses the idea.
* TrueCompanions: Kate considers Risa to be her best friend, much to Risa's happiness.
