* AntagonistTitle: They are the main antagonists of the Yggdrasill Saga.
* BigBrotherIsWatchingYou
* EvilVersusEvil: Them versus the Helheim Forest.
* TheGuardsMustBeCrazy: Yggdrasill is pretty much hyper-competent about everything except with their security detail. The guards forget to watch the cameras, the executives never turn off or log out of computers with sensitive information, and the Kurokage Troopers spectacularly fail during critical moments: Not only can they be tricked by simply making a sharp turn; they manage to let three targets escape while not landing a single hit with their cannons. And let's not get started on how a 16-year-old flying a Dandeliner for the first time does a better job than the mooks specifically trained for it...
* ItIsDehumanizing: Many members of Yggdrasill call the Armored Riders 'guinea pigs'.
* KillItWithFire: Whenever the Helheim Forest encroaches onto Zawame City Yggdrasill puts a stop to it with a copious amount of fire.
* TheMasquerade: Yggdrasill is all over the place with this from making people think that the Armored Riders are a new fad to covering up the Helheim Forest's existence and stopping it from encroaching onto the human world.
* MeaningfulName: One of the show's many references to NorseMythology.
* OmniscientCouncilOfVagueness[=/=]NotSoOmniscientCouncilOfBickering: Yggdrasill's inner circle is somewhere in between these two tropes. While they know a lot more than anyone else about what's going on; it's clear that they don't know everything, they're barely able to get along, and Takatora admits that they can barely control the Helheim situation.
* RenegadeSplinterFaction: One [[spoiler: led by Professor Ryoma that has pretty much completely taken over the organization with Takatora as the only Rider that's not a member of Ryoma's nut club.]]
* SupervillainLair: Yggdrasill Tower. It lords over Zawame City, has a permanent portal to Helheim in it, is heavily armed with laser guns, has an InvisibilityCloak to stop the populace from realizing anything weird is going on, and possesses the Scalar System, a WMD that can destroy the entire city and kill everyone in it.
* VillainsWantMercy: In #11 when the Yggdrasill camp is being overrun by Inves, one of the scientists begs Kouta for help despite laughing and talking about how the Beat Riders are just guinea pigs before. Kouta calls him out on being a {{Hypocrite}}, but still helps save the day.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Yggdrasill encourages the popularity of the Inves Game by distributing Lock Seeds, hands out Drivers to kids as part of their shady experiments, and later frames them for the outbreak of the Inves Plague. Granted, #16 hints that Yggdrasill might not be so villainous after all, as their means might be justified to save humanity.
* TheWorldTree: Evoked in their name, which ties into the whole "fruit" theme[[note]]If you don't get it, what is one of the things that fruit grows on?[[/note]]. Their headquarters is even a tree-shaped tower.

The older brother of Team Gaim's Mitsuzane Kureshima. As an heir to the Yggdrasill Corporation, he has already taken on responsibilities within the company and is currently the head of the R&D Department. Though ruthless, he loves his brother dearly.

He initially uses the Melon Lock Seed and the Sengoku Driver to transform into Armored Rider Zangetsu. Later, he becomes the first user of the next-generation Genesis Driver, which, along with the Melon Energy Lock Seed, allows him to transform into New Generation Rider Zangetsu Shin[[labelnote:tl]]"Shin" = "true" or "new". Often used as a prefix to indicate the new (and perfected) iteration of something, much in the same way "Super" was added onto videogame sequels like Super Mario Bros. or Super Metroid.[[/labelnote]].
----
* AllAccordingToPlan: According to him, Gaim getting the Sengoku Driver has advanced Yggdrasill's agenda in some way.
** Shown in #12: the various Riders using the Sengoku Driver has allowed Yggdrasill to both mass produce Drivers in the "form" of Kurokage for their mooks, and allowed the creation of both the Genesis Driver, and Energy Lock Seeds.
* AllThereInTheManual: Neither of his Rider names have been spoken in the show. He's only ever referred to as "the white Armored Rider".
* AloofBigBrother: Is Ryugen's big brother, but instead of participating in the conflict between Beat Riders, he works for that big shady company.
* AntiVillain -> [[spoiler: AntiHero]]: He has been shown to have standards, loves his brother, is genuinely well-intentioned, and is the only member of the inner circle that hasn't gone out of his way to be a dick in some way.
** [[spoiler:He is very uneasy about his decisions and wants Kouta to despair out of the belief that it would validate Takatora's own actions]].
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Has the arrogance down, most likely due to his wealthy upbringing and role in Yggdrasill's grand plan. His combat ability is unquestionable.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Is a high ranking member of the Yggdrasill Corporation and strong enough to causally deliver a CurbstompBattle to Gaim.
* AuthorityInNameOnly: While he's supposedly TheLeader and BigBad of the [[PsychoRangers New Generation Riders]] none of them actually follow his commands and really defer to Professor Ryoma.
* BeneathTheMask: At first glance Takatora is a stoic, arrogant man, but underneath it all he hates himself for what he plans to do but genuinely sees no other choice.
* BigBrotherInstinct: For all of his faults, Takatora does genuinely care about his brother's future and well-being.
** He did not take Sid's suggestion that Micchy took the Watermelon Lock Seed well.
** His reaction to finding out Micchy is an Armored Rider... was not very good. He then also put two and two together about the Suika Lock. An episode later, he angrily demands answers out of Sid as to why he gave his brother one of the Drivers. When he confronts Mitsuzane about it, he even outright admits that he's upset because he wanted to protect him from the entire conflict with Helheim.
* BishieSparkle: How he's seen through Bravo-Vision.
* {{Badass}}: Nearly killing Gaim is the least of his accomplishments to put it lightly. He is the strongest Rider leaving everyone else really far below him.
** BadassBaritone: This merely accentuates his imposing and foreboding presence.
** BadassInANiceSuit
* BreakTheCutie: Takatora wants to do this to Kouta. A rare example where he doesn't really want to do so out of outright hatred or malice, but because [[spoiler: he has genuine doubts about his actions and Yggdrasil's agenda. Takatora believes that seeing someone as heroic and idealistic as Kouta back down from challenging him would help ease his conscience and prove his course of action to be correct.]]
** He also unintentionally did this to his own brother. Takatora showed Micchy the truth about the Helheim Forest in order to convince him to join Yggdrasil and help Takatora. However, it ended up causing Micchy's StartOfDarkness.
* BreakThemByTalking: [[spoiler: He breaks Kouta in #22 by showing Kouta's fight against Yuuya and pointing out how everything worked out because he killed his friend.]]
* BrokenPedestal: To Ryoma in a really weird way. Ryoma used to hero worship Takatora, seeing him as the next God Emperor of mankind. However, after finding out that Takatora wants to use his powers for altruistic reasons, he turns against him.
* [[spoiler:CainAndAbel: Abel to Mitsuzane's Cain.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: Takatora started out as an arrogant man who saw the Beat Riders as "street trash" but as he fought Kouta his arrogance wanes and he develops respect and sympathy for them.
* ComesGreatResponsibility: He believes that its the rich and powerfuls' duty to protect the weak, even referring to it as ''Noblesse oblige''.
* TheComicallySerious: Becomes this when interacting with Bravo.
* CorporateSamurai: An almost literal example, since his armor as Zangetsu has a distinctly Japanese motif.
* CurbStompBattle: Delivers one to Kouta in #4, then curb-stomps ''all five'' other Riders in #11.
** Does it again in #12 when testing the Genesis Driver against a squad of Kurokage mooks. It appears that "Curbstomp" is his default setting.
** #14 has him do this once again to Baron. However according to him, the Sengoku Drivers and Base Riders can't hope to equal an New Generation Rider.
** In #19 this happens again: Kouta does better but Kouta couldn't touch him at all.
* DarkMessiah: In direct contrast to Kouta.
* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler: In #28 Takatora "dies" by being thrown off a cliff. To no one's surprise he's shown to be alive the very next episode.]]
* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: In #29 [[spoiler: Takatora meets Roshuo, King of the Overlords, who saves his life and regales him with his life story.]]
* DramaticIrony: [[spoiler: In #20 he makes a speech about how one evil person can ruin the hard work of a hundred virtuous efforts... cue a scene where the rest of the New Generation Riders gleefully admit that they plan to screw Takatora over when the time is right.]]
** The irony is furthered in the following episodes: he accuses Kouta of being naive, but [[spoiler:Takatora now seems to be the only major player who doesn't realize that his associates are planning to betray him, as well as being the only major character oblivious to the existence of the Overlord Inves]].
** Takatora genuinely cares about and wants to protect his brother, but showing Mistuzane the truth about the Helheim forest and bringing him into Yggdrasil has set the latter on the path to outright villainy.
* TheDreaded: Kouta is scared to death of him. And after #11, this also applies to everyone but Micchy and Oren.
** Even the other New Generation Riders fear him. [[spoiler: When the time comes to betray him Minato is actually cautious and after his supposed death Sid feels confident enough to betray Ryoma.]]
* EducationMama: Male example. He continuously reminds Mitsuzane about the importance of his education and advises him to avoid any "distractions" in his life.
* EtTuBrute: [[spoiler: In #28, after getting betrayed by Sid and then Minato, Takatora applies this trope on Ryoma (who he honestly saw as his closest friend) who then proceeds to finish off Takatora.]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: The term evil may not be the right word for him, but Takatora does genuinely love his younger brother and wants what is best for him. In the two earliest tie-in films, he even sides with Mitsuzane and the other Armored Riders in the conflicts.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He openly says that a trained soldier having a Sengoku Driver is too dangerous during #7 and requests the Driver be returned. Everyone else, however, seems to entertain the idea of Oren having the belt in one way or another.
** He shows disgust whenever his other members do things ForTheEvulz.
** He also doesn't aim to kill when fighting other Armored Riders. In #15, he makes it clear that without their belts the Beat Riders should even be protected. Unfortunately Sid seems to disagree...
** After [[spoiler:Takatora breaks Kouta by revealing the truth about Yuya's death to him, he simply lets him go since he doesn't think he's a threat to Yggdrasil's plans anymore. This is in spite of Sid's skepticism and the fact that he could probably kill Kouta easily in is depressed state.]]
* EveryScarHasAStory: Has a prominent one on his right shoulder, inflicted during his first transformation into Zangetsu. [[spoiler:#27 reveals that it still very much hurts, meaning that he has been fighting with a handicap the entire time.]]
* EvilCounterpart: To Kouta, big time. Both are the lead characters in their respective factions and noticeably more moral than the other Riders - in fact, the only real difference between them is that Zangetsu has accepted having to ShootTheDog; Gaim hasn't. As for their Rider forms, they're not only both samurai; but they both have the Musou Saber as an extra sidearm and their armors are in many ways {{Palette Swap}}s of one another.
** Later subverted; [[spoiler:Takatora's not evil, just more cynical. As soon as Kouta shows him the potential for a more idealistic solution, he's all in.]]
* [[spoiler:ExactWords: Zangetsu was compared as the Ouja of the series. Turns out they weren't talking about THIS Zangetsu...]]
* {{Expy}}:
** WordOfGod through Urobuchi implies that his role will be similar to that of Ouja from ''Series/KamenRiderRyuki''. [[spoiler:This was later revealed to be Urobuchi teasing the fans through ExactWords; the Ouja Expy turns out not to be Takatora, but his younger brother Mitsuzane, who becomes the second Zangetsu Shin.]]
** Takatora actually holds many similarities to [[LightNovel/FateZero Kiritsugu Emiya]]. Both are intimidating men in suits who turn themselves into monsters for what they deem the greater good while secretly being conflicted over their decisions and both are {{Totalitarian Utilitarian}}s of the WellIntentionedExtremist variety.
* AFatherToHisMen: Shown to genuinely care for the mooks directly under his command.
* {{Foil}}: Takatora is a strong foil to his younger brother as well as to Kouta. With Mitsuzane through their opposite moral developments, and with Kouta through their heroic similarities.
* FourIsDeath: His Melon Lock Seed is LS-04, while his Melon Energy Lock Seed is ELS-04.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: The Melancholic.
* [[spoiler:GoodAllAlong]]
* [[spoiler: HeroWithAnFInGood: Oh, ''holy God yes.'' Every attempt he's made to try to stop Helheim has either shifted power back towards the people trying to manipulate him or somehow ended up making the entire situation worse for both sides.]]
* HeroicBSOD[=/=]DespairEventHorizon: Happens in #28 [[spoiler: after he realizes Ryoma has betrayed him he loses the will to fight.]]
* HiddenAgendaVillain: Keeps his plans hidden for a significant portion of the story.
* HiddenDepths: During his CurbstompBattle with the other Riders, he takes extra caution to not actually ''kill'' anyone, even Oren who he thinks shouldn't be a Rider, by [[SetSwordsToStun holding his Musou Saber backwards]]. He's actually horrified when he winds up destroying one of the Sengoku Drivers.
** Furthermore, he tried to stop Ryoji from eating a Helheim Fruit, and after his transformation, he made Sid take him down in order to try to make him feel responsibility for his actions.
** In #21, [[spoiler: he admits that he has genuine doubts about his more morally questionable actions and Yggdrasil's plans, and respects Kouta's heroism and resolve.]]
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: This is one of Takatora's [[FatalFlaw Fatal Flaws]]. He relies on some rather ObviouslyEvil people, and can find no wrong in his brother. Micchy outright states that Takatora has a habit of trusting people that he really shouldn't in #23.
* TheJuggernaut
* KnightOfCerebus: In-universe for Kouta. Once he shows up in his life, he stops taking his life as an Armored Rider as a game.
* KubrickStare[=/=]PerpetualFrowner: His default expression.
* LargeHam: Minor example: Though we the audience only see it once, his pre-transformation pose as Zangetsu is the most grandiose of all the Armored Riders, using CGI even before the transformation is initiated. He does no pose or gesture as Zangetsu Shin, however.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: [[spoiler:By #23, he has become by far the most unaware major player. He doesn't realize that his associates are plotting behind his back, and he's the only major character who doesn't know about the Overlord Inves.]]
** Played for laughs in the ''[[Series/ResshaSentaiTokkyuger ToQger]]'' crossover. He doesn't even notice a giant robot/monster battle outside of his office window.
* ManInWhite: As Zangetsu.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: Melon Energy Arms
* MultiformBalance: Titled "Arms".
** Personal Arms:
*** JackOfAllStats: Melon, though he fights like TheJuggernaut.
*** LightningBruiser: Melon Energy
** Borrowed Arms:
*** FightingClown: Fourze
*** [[spoiler:FragileSpeedster: Strawberry]]
*** [[spoiler:MightyGlacier: Mango]]
*** [[spoiler:JackOfAllStats: Grape]]
* NamedAfterSomeoneFamous: After [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Dd%C5%8D_Takatora Toudou Takatora]].
* NecessarilyEvil: How he perceives all of the morally unjust things he does. He still feels immense guilt for them, though.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Attacks Buijin Double right as he was about to finish off [[BigBad Buijin Gaim]], resulting in Double's defeat, thinking Buijin Gaim was the Gaim he knew. While he wasn't exactly a 'hero' at the time, he was still on the hero's ''side'' during the conflict at hand.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Gives Kouta one so brutal in #4, it leaves the poor guy [[TheDreaded absolutely terrified of him.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: [[spoiler: In #22, he chuckles before showing Kouta that he killed Yuya.]]
* NotSoDifferent: Both Takatora and Kouta have doubts about fighting the Inves, care for those close to them, and ultimately want to protect people; the key difference between them is that [[spoiler:Takatora has accepted the idea that innocent people must be sacrificed for the greater good, while Kouta wants to save everyone.]]
** Takatora purposefully tries to invoke this on Kouta: when Kouta calls him out on being willing to sacrifice lives in #22, Takatora turns it back on him by explaining that Kouta and other people are only alive today because he [[spoiler:took ''Yuya's'' life]]. However, Kouta soon regains his resolve, rejects Takatora's belief, and [[spoiler:destroys Yggdrasil's Scalar System with Kachidoki Arms.]]
** In #27,[[spoiler: his backstory reveals his goal to save as many people as possible from the Helheim invasion, similar to Kouta. Both of them also have a villainous sidekick that they genuinely view as their friend, while their sidekicks have their own goals and are willing to betray them any time (Ryoma to Takatora, and Micchy to Kouta).]]
* OffscreenTeleportation[=/=]VillainTeleportation: Demonstrates this ability in Helheim Forest in #4.
* OnlySaneMan: For Yggdrasill. He's the only one who hasn't done something solely ForTheEvulz and is focused on their main objective while the other members of the inner circle tend to prefer making the Armored Riders suffer for fun.
** Becomes more pronounced as time goes on: Takatora is the only New Generation Rider [[spoiler:who actually wants to save humanity and acknowledges that Yggdrasil's actions are cruel; the others all see the Helheim invasion as a good thing and don't care that their plans will cause the deaths of billions.]]
* TheProudElite: Repeatedly refers to Beat Riders as "street trash" that's beneath him and tries to pass this attitude on to Mitsuzane.
* PsychoticSmirk: Flashes a Sid-worthy one when [[spoiler: he shows Kouta that he killed Yuya.]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* RainOfArrows: Assuming the abilities shown of the Sonic Arrow aren't shared by all New Generation Riders, Zangetsu Shin's arrows can do this, as shown in #12.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Manly Man to Mitsuzane's Sensitive Guy.
* SelectiveObliviousness: This is Takatora's other FatalFlaw: he tends to ignore whatever challenges his worldview or inconveniences his plans unless he can't avoid it anymore.
** He initially refused to consider the idea that his beloved little brother wasn't the stoic, diligent student he pretended to be [[spoiler:and fails to notice that showing Micchy the truth about Helheim has had a very horrifying effect on his sanity]].
** He fails to realize that all his trusted allies aren't [[WellIntentionedExtremist Well-Intentioned Extremists]] like him and are conspiring against him. By #23, he appears to be the only major character who hasn't figured out that they're ObviouslyEvil.
** He's also so far into the "sacrifice the many to save the few" plan (in spite of the guilt it brings him) that he refuses to accept anything else. Takatora also assumes that his allies are all just as dedicated to the plan as he is.
** PlayedForLaughs in the [=ToQger=] crossover, when he's completely oblivious to a giant mecha battle going on outside his window.
* Shirtless Scene: In #27, his bare shoulders and part of his back can bee seen during a shower scene. It shows that EveryScarHasAStory.
* SkilledButNaive: While he's definitely not naive, he's a very oblivious person due his [[HorribleJudgeOfCharacter tendency]] of relying on some extremely untrustworthy people and his inability to notice his brother's downward spiral.
* SoProudOfYou: To Mitsuzane's shock, he actually applauds him for going behind his back and going against his planned out life by telling him that [[ItRunsInTheFamily "you definitely have Kureshima blood in you"]].
* SympathyForTheHero: He seems to have gained a soft spot for Kouta, admiring his resolve and idealism, despite setting out to break his will.
** [[spoiler:Upon meeting Demushuu and having Kouta tell him the truth about the Overlord Inves, Takatora immediately believes Kouta and the two join forces. Despite Kouta destroying the Scalar System, he seems to be more than willing to let bygones be bygones and give Kouta's idealism a chance.]]
** Eventually, Takatora develops a very high opinion of Kouta and genuinely wants to help him. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, Micchy has other plans.]]
* TakeUpMySword: [[spoiler: In #28, right before Sid sends Takatora plummeting to his doom, Takatora sees Mitsuzane in the distance and tells him to help Kouta and save humanity. Too bad Takatora doesn't know his little brother has made a FaceHeelTurn.]]
* [[{{Deuteragonist}} Tetragonist]]
* ThrowingYourShieldAlwaysWorks: Demonstrated in #11 when fighting against Ryugen.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Though ruthless and rather amoral in his methods, he's the only one of the New Generation Riders to have humanity's best interests at heart.
* TotalitarianUtilitarian: A PG version, with some similarities to [[LightNovel/FateZero Kiritsugu Emiya.]]
* UnwittingPawn: To [[spoiler:Sid, Ryoma, and Yoko, who all ''want'' Helheim to invade and are using Takatora to become stronger.]]
* WeaponOfChoice:
** Personal Arms:
*** MixAndMatchWeapon: [[CoolGuns Musou]] [[CoolSword Saber]] as Zangetsu.
*** LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: The Melon Defender in Melon Arms.
*** TheStraightAndArrowPath: Sonic Arrow as Zangetsu Shin.
** Borrowed Arms:
*** RocketPoweredWeapon: The Rocket Module in Fourze Arms.
*** [[spoiler:[[FlechetteStorm Flechette]] [[KnifeNut Knives]]: The Ichigo Kunai in Strawberry Arms.]]
*** [[spoiler:CarryABigStick: The Mango Punisher in Mango Arms.]]
*** [[spoiler:{{Handguns}}: The Budou Ryuhou in Grape Arms.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Identifies as one, as he claims his plans are all for the good of helping humanity. He also goes on to say all of Yggdrasill is this, as it is their role in the world.
** #16 shows that whatever he is trying to do is meant to save the world and has something to do with what's at the heart of the Helheim Forest.
** Confirmed in #20. [[spoiler: Takatora is trying to prevent Helheim from spreading over the earth]], and in #21, if he has no other option to stop the spread, [[spoiler:they use the ring on the tower to destroy all of Zawame]]. Sid, when revealing the latter to Kouta, pretty much states that [[TheNeedsOfTheMany it's a necessary evil if it means saving mankind]].
* WorldsBestWarrior: It's pretty much agreed upon by both the Beat Riders and Yggdrasill that he is impossible to beat one-on-one.
* WouldBeRudeToSayGenocide: G-Rated version. Yggdrasill does not "control" Zawame City, they enhance and improve it.
* {{Workaholic}}: Shows shades of this. When he's not working, what little interaction he has with his brother is interrupted by his phone ringing. He also shows disgust towards most of the youth of Zawame City and especially the Beat Riders, since in his eyes they contribute nothing to society.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Believes he's in a CosmicHorrorStory and that only through sacrifice would anything be achieved. In short, he thinks he's in a Creator/GenUrobuchi story. He's not too far off the nose with the former, but Kouta shows him that the latter is not true.
* YankTheDogsChain: Takatora was actually happy in #28, smiling and basically acting like an adult Kouta. [[spoiler: Cue his brother and comrades completely expected betrayal.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: After the Genesis Driver is finished, he declares that Yggdrasill has no need for the Armored Riders and plans to make them "face reality". Thankfully, he takes a non-lethal approach (in contrast to his allies).
** [[spoiler:Takatora is on the receiving end of this trope when his allies finally betray him in #28.]]

[[folder:Ryoma Sengoku/Kamen Rider Duke]]
!!Ryoma Sengoku/New Generation Rider Duke
!!!Portrayed by: Tsunenori Aoki (live), Kenji Tominaga (suit)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/duke_8498.png
[[quoteright:155:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryomasengoku_3146.jpg]]

A scientist working in the R&D Department of Yggdrasill under Takatora. He is the creator of the Sengoku and Genesis Drivers, and is studying the expansion of Helheim Forest with great interest. Although he is technically the subordinate of Takatora, he speaks to his boss with a overly-familiar tone and is not afraid to undermine him for the sake of his experiments.

He later becomes a user of the next-generation Genesis Driver, using the Lemon Energy Lock Seed to transform into New Generation Rider Duke.
----
* AbsentMindedProfessor: Another dark take on an otherwise comedic trope. Ryoma lives in his own nutty world of mad science, and unless reality can help him with it he completely lacks empathy.
* AceCustom: His Rider powers definitely seem to act this way, having the strongest punches and kicks than any other rider, including the ones who use Genesis Drivers. He is also the only one whose Driver has a transformation call (which carried over to Kaito's Driver).
* AffablyEvil: Sure, he only cares about his own plans, but that doesn't stop him from being one of the most polite characters in the show.
** [[spoiler:FauxAffablyEvil: #20 reveals his views are exactly the same as Kaito and he wants Helheim to invade. He maintains his politeness, but that revealed him as a complete villain.]]
* AlmightyJanitor: On the surface he's just a quirky MadScientist [[spoiler: but in reality he's a crazy SocialDarwinist that leads his own faction that controls all of Yggdrasill's Kamen Riders.]]
* AmbiguousDisorder: His social skills are similar to someone with high-functioning autism.
* AmbitionIsEvil: Heavily gives off this vibe. As long as he can create new Drivers, he seems entirely unconcerned about the citizens suffering under the expansion of the Helheim Forest.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Ryoma putting his brain into Hakaider's body violates so many biological laws it's not even funny even by tokukatsu standards and raises way too many questions: Like why his body didn't decompose.
** MythologyGag: of course those who have watched the original Kikaider series or anime knows that this is perfectly reasonable within the series.
* AwesomeMcCoolname: His surname translates to something like "Extreme War" and is a homonym for the era of the samurai.
* {{Badass}}
** BadassBookworm
** BadassCape: As Duke.
** BadassLabcoat
* BerserkButton: Not knowing something. Seeing Kachidoki Arms made him flip out.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Ryoma also wanted to go TransHuman. Hakaider allowed him to do that...and he didn't exactly know what he was getting into.
* BiggerBad: Of Yggdrasil, since he's the one who knew about Helheim first.
* BigBad: By #25 it's pretty obvious who's really in charge of Yggdrasill.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: The guy has his quirks. When asked why the Sengoku Drivers make catchphrases, he admits it's a guilty pleasure.
* CurbStompBattle: Delivers one to both Kouta and Kaito in #19.
* [[spoiler:{{Cyborg}}: Temporarily, when he transplants his brain into Hakaider.]]
** [[spoiler:CyberneticsEatYourSoul: He's surprised to find that Hakaider's directive to destroy begins overriding his personality.]]
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Yes, Ryoma, put your brain into a KillerRobot ForScience without checking the risks like you've always done before. [[SarcasmMode Nothing could possibly go wrong]].
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Blames this as a result of his own inexperience in combat.
* DragonInChief: [[spoiler: He is the one that all of the Yggdrasill Riders bow down to while using Takatora as a figurehead.]]
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Wants Kouta's and Kaito's help in creating a new Driver that exceeds even the Genesis Drivers in power.
** Not his only agenda, either. [[spoiler:He also WANTS for the Helheim Forest to invade the Earth, knowing that it would cause the deaths of thousands and not giving a damn.]]
* DrunkWithPower: Gives a speech that implies he was this long before becoming Duke.
* DullSurprise: Unless Mad Science or a CosmicHorrorStory is going on, Ryoma does a very bad job at pretending to care.
* {{Egopolis}}: Named the Sengoku Drivers after himself. But with a name like his, who could blame him?
* EvilCounterpart: To Baron. Both are based on European knights and named after aristocratic titles; and both are obsessed with pursuing something to the exclusion of everything else.
** To Ryugen as well, both are [[spoiler: former]] {{Psycho Sidekick}}s with UndyingLoyalty to another more powerful and charismatic Rider who turn against them when they're told something they didn't like.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: After almost being consumed by Hakaider's killer programing he wonders who'd be monstrous enough to run an organization like DARK.
* EvilGenius: Yggdrasill's most important one. He invented the Sengoku Drivers, as well as the Genesis Drivers.
* EvilLaugh: In #25 he tries to keep himself from doing this [[spoiler: when Sagara confirms that Helheim contains a "forbidden fruit" that grants great power.]]
* {{Expy}}: A younger and more dangerous [[Series/KamenRiderOOO Doctor Maki.]] There would be no CreepyDoll holding him back, that's for sure.
* FalseFriend: [[spoiler: He sees Takatora as a tool and nothing more.]]
** [[spoiler: EvilFormerFriend: Flashbacks from #27 show that Ryoma had once thought of Takatora as a man that could become the king of a post-Helheim infested world, showing genuine concern over Takatora getting injured and even designed the first Sengoku Driver as a sort of regalia for him. Of course, Takatora preferring TheNeedsOfTheMany over his own concerns, just wants Ryoma to just produce as many general Drivers as possible, which leads to a GlassesPull event that marked the beginning of Ryoma's condescending tone towards Takatora and general decision to leave him LockedOutOfTheLoop.]]
* FirstNameBasis: Addresses Takatora without any honorifics whatsoever, implying a certain level of closeness to the guy. [[spoiler: Shown in #27 to have been a former friend to Takatora.]]
* ForScience: Seems to have this as a motivation. Even with both the Sengoku Driver and Genesis Driver performing well, he's already seeking to design a new belt that further taps into Helheim's power.
** [[spoiler: He serves as the antagonist for the Kikaider crossover after ''removing his brain and putting it into Hakaider''.]]
* FourEyesZeroSoul: During #27's flashbacks.
** TheGlassesComeOff: Surprisingly, it's only after he takes them off that he begins to be [[spoiler:the MadScientist we all know and love]].
* AGodAmI: His ultimate motive. He either wants to become a god or create one.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: [[spoiler: Ryoma doesn't care about Project Arc and is only going along with it so he can take the resources for whatever it is he's ''really'' planning.]]
* ItAmusedMe: The ''real'' reason for all those Sengoku Driver voices.
* LackOfEmpathy: Notice that whenever science isn't concerned Ryoma doesn't seem to emote properly, with his voice rather dull, and his facial expressions forced. And him apologizing about Ryoji's death was incredibly half-hearted. Outside of science, Ryoma just doesn't care.
* LargeHam: The fact that he put voices in the Sengoku Driver purely for fun is quite silly. And as a New Generation Rider, his Genesis Driver is the only one (again, discounting Kaito, whose Driver is a copy of his) that has a transformation call. He is also the only one of the group who has his own transformation pose. Adding all of these up, Ryoma almost seems like a real-life Kamen Rider fanboy.
* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: His reaction to the Kikaider crossover.
* LikeAGodToMe: He used to view Takatora as some kind of God Emperor of Mankind before being jilted.
* MadScientist: His AGodAmI MotiveRant in #15 establishes that "sanity" isn't something that Yggdrasill wants on your resume.
* MightyGlacier: Very powerful, but notably slower than the other New Generation Riders.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: Yggdrasill sure didn't hire him with ethical concerns involved.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Japanese historical figure [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakamoto_Ry%C5%8Dma Sakamoto Ryoma.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler:He is in shock when he witnesses Kouta's transformation into Kachidoki Arms as he does not recognize the Kachidoki Lockseed as one of his own, which is a stark deviation from his apathy or curious interest we are familiar with.]]
* PeekABangs: He has some long bangs on the side, which sometimes hang over his face.
* PsychoSidekick: Flashbacks show that Ryoma used to be Takatora's Micchy before turning against him.
* SkunkStripe: Has a whitish streak in his hair.
* SocialDarwinist: Him and Kaito have much more in common than just their Rider motifs.
* [[spoiler: SoLongSuckers: Seen leaving Yggdrasil Tower in an escape rocket just as it gets overgrown by Helheim in #32.]]
* SureLetsGoWithThat: In #17, Micchy makes up an excuse as to why he didn't [[ShootYourMate betray Kouta]], claiming that Ryoma didn't want Kouta to lose his belt yet. Whether or not he's right, his quick thinking impresses Ryoma enough that he's willing to back up Micchy's claim when Takatora comes calling.
* [[spoiler:TheStarscream: He frequently schemes behind Takatora's back and ultimately leads a coup against him.]]
* StrongButUnskilled: At least according to him, he doesn't fully get how to completely rein in the power of his armor yet.
* ThisCannotBe
* TranquilFury: After regaining his composure after seeing Kachidoki Arms in action he enters this state.
* TransHuman: His other ultimate goal.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He thinks that the Beat Riders are just going to roll over and die after the public turns against them, boy is he wrong.
* VillainousBreakdown: In #23 seeing Kachidoki arms and realizing that he [[BerserkButton doesn't know something]] he temporarily flips his shit.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: He thinks that either Kaito or Kouta could become the next Big Thing.
* WeCanRuleTogether: He offers both Kouta and Kaito a chance to become a part of his god scheme. Both turn him down, knowing that he's nuts.
** He gives another offer to Kaito in #20. [[spoiler:It works this time.]]

* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler: After getting Kaito to join his side, he gives Sid the okay to kill Kouta, having no more use for him.]]

!!Sid/New Generation Rider Sigurd
!!!Portrayed by: Kazuki Namioka (live), Tatsuya Kaneko (suit)
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sigurd_1416.png
[[quoteright:155:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sidgaim_1548.jpg]]

An agent of Yggdrasill who masqueraded as a self-employed "Lock Dealer" and sold Lock Seeds to the kids of Zawame City. His true purpose was to observe the effects of the experimental Sengoku Drivers on their users and ensure that things did not get out of hand. While a subordinate to Takatora, he is a slimy career-chaser who will gladly make back-alley deals if it secures him more power and influence in Yggdrasill.

He later receives one of the next-generation Genesis Drivers, using the Cherry Energy Lock Seed to transform into New Generation Rider Sigurd.
----
* TheAggressiveDrugDealer: "Aggressive" isn't quite the right word for Sid, but he looks and acts like a drug dealer and has sacrificed profit in the name of escalating the Invase Game more than once.
* AntiRoleModel: What he essentially is. He goes on and on about how being an adult is all about making tough decisions, but as Kouta points out, about 90% of what he says is just an excuse to be a dick.
* ArchEnemy: The only person Kouta openly hates and shows no regret about hurting.
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:While Roshuo's method of killing him was absolutely brutal, there's little doubt a monster like Sid had it coming.]]
* {{Badass}}: Yes, he's a smug slime ball, but he can back it up.
** BadassBeard: His goatee of evil
** BadassLongcoat
** HiddenBadass
* BigBadWannabe: While he is a dangerous, manipulative threat and the New Gen Rider most actively trying to kill the heroes with or without orders, he doesn't measure up to Ryoma and Takatora. [[spoiler:He makes an effort to break off and grab the Forbidden Fruit for himself, even teaming up with Micchy, but ultimately doesn't last three episodes before being killed off by Roshuo.]]
* BigEater: Subtle, but he's always snacking on something. The only times he isn't is when he's meeting with Takatora.
* BeardOfEvil
* BeneathTheMask: While he's a bit of a jerk, he seemed fairly harmless and while the Beat Riders didn't like him very much, he still seemed willing to help him..but when he's enraged, he tends to fly into a psychotic rage and openly enjoys the heinous actions he commits.
* BerserkButton: Kouta makes him angry in a way no one else can.
* BreakThemByTalking: After becoming Sigurd, almost all of his dialogue with Kouta revolves around trying to verbally crush him on a moral and ideological level.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Evil version. All of the Beat Riders hate him, but he's just too good at getting good Lock Seeds to just ignore.
* CaptainErsatz: [[Series/{{Firefly}} It's the Badger!]]
* CharacterTics: Holding and messing around with his S Lock Seed.
** Before and after transforming, he tips his fedora, and in battle, he has the tendency to hold onto his head like his hat is there.
* ChekhovsGun: Remember that S Lockseed he always carries around? [[spoiler: He can use it to control the Suika Arms armor.]]
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: [[spoiler:Backstabs Takatora and Ryoma in the same episode.]]
* TheChooserOfTheOne: Picked out which Beat Riders were to get Sengoku Drivers, generally looking for ones who would escalate the conflict.
* CombatPragmatist: Best shown when he shot the Banana Lockseed out of Kaito's hands ''before'' he could transform.
* TheCorrupter: He takes great joy in bringing out Mitsuzane's dark side.
* [[spoiler:CruelAndUnusualDeath: Roshuo uses telekinesis to trap and crush him between two cliff faces. Perhaps one of the most violent deaths ever seen in the Kamen Rider Series.]]
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: The way he choose the Riders was ridiculously genre savvy. He made sure every person he gave powers to was either desperate, weak-willed, or just plain evil which would make them easily manipulable, disposable, or able to be converted to his side if they showed potential. Now if only Kouta hadn't gotten Yuya's Sengoku Driver.
** [[spoiler: After Takatora was dealt with, Sid decided that as a Rider, he was just as qualified to pluck the forbidden fruit as any other Rider was. And so, in order to get a head start over the Yggdrasil Riders (Ryoma in particular), he destroyed the tech that kept the crack on the Takatsukasa shrine tree open so that they could no longer have a free pass into Helheim and destroyed all of their [=LockVehicles=] so that nobody else could track him down or go into Helheim as they pleased (save for the Riders that had [=LockVehicles=] prior to Sid's systematic destruction).]]
* DarkIsEvil
* [[DeathByIrony Defeat By Irony]]: Non-Lethal example. While Sid captured Kouta with the Kurokage troopers, it's the DJ's "carelessly leaving behind" his keycard that allows Kouta to escape. Recall how early on, Sid himself "carelessly left behind" a Sengoku Driver for Mitsuzane.
** In that same episode, Kouta and Kaito take pleasure in [[spoiler:knocking Sid on his rear [[HoistByHisOwnPetard with the very same equipment he gave them.]]]]
** And again in #24. [[spoiler: Kouta blitzed him using Jimber Cherry Arms. Which come from the Cherry Energy Lockseed.]]
** [[spoiler: Becomes truly fatal in #31 [[LaserGuidedKarma when the second Rider to die in the series turns out to be the one who killed the first.]]]]
* TheDragon: Among Yggdrasill's Riders, he takes the role of enforcer.
* [[spoiler:DefiantToTheEnd: Despite Roshuo's Telekinesis [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking staggering him to the point where he can barely even move, atomizing his Lockseed and Driver, and blowing off his hat,]] he still refuses to back down.]]
* EasilyForgiven: After Takatora finds out Sid gave his little brother a Sengoku Driver, his initial reaction is to grab him by the collar in a moment of barely suppressed rage. While Sid brings up a good point in his defense, Takatora's line of "I expect you to follow through this time" comes off as nothing but naïve. He also goes unpunished for trying to use lethal force against Gaim and Baron, despite Takatora's insistence on protecting them.
* EnigmaticEmpoweringEntity: Distributes the Sengoku Drivers and bikes to the various Beat Rider teams, often even for free. The Riders didn't know that it was for the purpose of giving Yggdrasill new lab rats.
* EnigmaticMinion: While he's working for Yggdrasill, he kept the fact that he gave Mitsuzane a Driver a secret from his brother for an unknown reason. More than that, he gave Takatora every opportunity to find out, but was amused that he hadn't taken the bait.
* EvilCounterpart: To Bravo (well, Evil-er Counterpart). Unlike the other Armored/New Generation Rider comparisons, they don't share an armor theme, but they both enjoy antagonizing others and especially picking on children. [[spoiler:However, Sid ultimately turns out to be completely irredeemable, while Oren starts working with the heroes once he's appraised of the whole situation.]]
* EvilLaugh
* EvilWearsBlack: Bonus points for being the most evil person on the show.
* {{Expy}}: Has [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Gilgamesh]]'s hero motif as Sigurd.
* [[spoiler:FamousLastWords: I...I...I will become more than human!]]
* ForTheEvulz: Seems to be the reason he likes screwing with people's heads and seemed to actually get a kick out of killing Hase and then smugly rubbing it in Kouta's face.
* [[spoiler: FreudianExcuse: Implied. Part of his motive for getting the Fruit for Knowledge was so that no one would look down on him again. There was also his attitude towards Kouta and Kaito about how adults are the responsible ones.]]
* FriendInTheBlackMarket: To anyone willing to pay for his services in the first arc. He closes up shop afterwards, partly because Kouta called him out on just using the Beat Riders as lab rats and partly because Yggdrasill was ending that project anyway.
* [[spoiler:GoryDiscretionShot: When Roshuo crushes him the camera tilts upward swiftly to spare the viewer from seeing his gruesome demise.]]
* HateSink: Sid is such a [[AddedAlliterativeAppeal slimy, smug, soulless, scumbag]] that AllLovingHero Kouta openly hates him, telling the audience to direct their hate onto Sid.
* HeroKiller: Kills off Hase during his first bout as Sigurd.
* HomingProjectile: His arrows can do this.
* HopeCrusher: Sid has made it his personal goal to crush Kouta's ideals.
* HopeIsScary: He tells Kouta he opposes him because he's giving people false hope that will only be crushed. Given it's Sid, however, it's not clear how much he believes it and how much is just an excuse to mess with Kouta's head.
* {{Irony}}:
** Every attempt Sid has made to crush Kouta's resolve has somehow strengthened it.
** Sid originally let Kouta live because it was fun to make him squirm while Takatora wanted to take more decisive action. Nowadays Sid is the biggest advocate for killing Kouta while Takatora lets him go out of sympathy.
** [[spoiler:The rider responsible for the first Rider death ends up being the next Rider to die.]]
** Originally, Sid distributes the Sengoku Drivers to Beat Rider teams because of how easily manipulable and accepting they are of power given to them for free, and he believes that 'adults' like Sid would question this. [[spoiler: This comes to bite him in the ass in #31, as he was easily tempted by the forbidden fruit offered by Redyue, getting him killed. Micchy knows that it is a trap and decides not to follow him.]]
** Sid comments that Micchy [[spoiler:watching his brother supposedly die without trying to stop his killers]] was rather cold of him. It's that same coldness that has Micchy [[spoiler:not inform Sid of the trap and just have him march to his death]]. To add further irony, his brother gets to [[spoiler:watch ''Sid'' die without trying to stop his killer]].
* ItsPersonal: For some reason, he hates Kouta on a personal level, dropping his SlimeBall persona when fighting him in favor for a more bitter, jaded outlook on life while trying to break him.
* JackOfAllStats: The most balanced of the New Generation Riders.
* {{Jerkass}}: To the point where AllLovingHero Kouta hates him.
* KidsVersusAdults: He often tends to talk about how adults are the master authority towards kids and how they should respect their elders. Both Kouta and Kaito respond by telling him where he can shove his agism.
* [[spoiler:KilledOffForReal]]
* KnightOfCerebus: Responsible for the show's first Rider death, which the lead writer calls [[NothingIsTheSameAnymore the turning point of the story]] and says the one line that confirms that this is a {{deconstruction}} of Kamen Rider.
* [[spoiler:LaserGuidedKarma: The murderer of the first Rider fatality is the second Rider fatality]]
* MeaningfulName: Twofold: The first being his name being a sound-a-like to ''seed'', as in Lock''seed''. Then there's his Rider name. Sigurd relates to a heroic monster hunter. Hence his speeches regarding hunting down monsters being heroic.
* ManipulativeBastard: He just ''loves'' to find out your hopes and dreams, then twists and corrupts them for his own amusement.
* NiceHat: A black bowler. It's ultimately used for a [[spoiler:DeadHatShot.]]
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** As noted above in {{Irony}}, every attempt Sid has made to crush Kouta's HeroicResolve just makes him bounce back stronger than before.
** {{Inverted}} in #21. [[spoiler:Him telling Kouta about the Scalar Weapon actually had Kouta team up with Yggdrasil to prevent Inves from coming out of a public crack.]] But played straight again in #23 as [[spoiler:Kouta learns to go for the Scalar system while StormingTheCastle and trashes it completely.]]
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: While Sid was never harmless, all he seemed like was your typical corporate slime ball who would fold after the Riders got tired of his BS...But then he's revealed to be New Generation Rider Sigurd, who proves this assumption to be very wrong when he kills Ryoji.
* ObviouslyEvil
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Claims that money is his only motivation. This is a very obvious lie.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: He's rather short, but very tough.
* PunnyName: Sid <-> Seed. Also '''Si'''gur'''d'''.
* PsychoForHire: Unlike the other Yggdrasil employees, who either view their actions as a NecessaryEvil or a means to an end, he ''enjoys'' his heinous actions, including killing Hase and trying to kill Kouta. While he talks a heroic talk, it seems to be only an excuse to perform heinous acts because he ''wants'' to.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: As Sigurd.
* RedIsHeroic: Well, he ''insists'' he's heroic, but [[InvertedTrope he's far from it]].
* ShootTheDog: He describes his execution of Hase as this, though primarily as a way to mock Kouta - he doesn't seem to be the type who's concerned about "morality".
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: He constantly taunts Kouta that his ideals are immature and childish.
* SlimeBall: The man ''oozes'' corporate slime.
* SmugSmiler
* TheSociopath: Is charismatic enough to have easily convinced the Beat Riders to take his wares, takes a sadistic pleasure in screwing with people's heads, and has [[LackOfEmpathy zero empathy for anyone else]]. He also escalates the Invase Game seemingly on a whim without orders from his superiors more than once. He also shows a violent, homicidal streak when he's actually enraged, to the point of [[spoiler:outright trying to kill Baron and Gaim]] in anger when they get the slip on him. He also seemed to ''enjoy'' killing Hase as opposed to his comrades, who either viewed it as a NecessaryEvil or were indifferent.
* SoftSpokenSadist: While he has a charisma and speaks calmly most of the time, the guy is notably the only Yggdrasil member to outright ''enjoy'' his heinous actions instead of seeing them as a NecessaryEvil or a means to an end.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The TV-Nihon fansub initially Romanized his name as "Cid" before switching to the more accepted "Sid."
* [[spoiler:TheStarscream: He not only helps Ryoma undermine Takatora, once that's out of the way he backstabs ''Ryoma'' too.]]
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: His solution to deal with Kachidoki Arms is ''three'' Watermelon Arms. [[spoiler: It doesn't work.]]
* UnskilledButStrong: Sid's fight with Kouta in Episode #21 shows that he's not that skilled of a fighter when he doesn't have the sheer power of being a New Generation Rider to rely on. When Kouta evens the odds between them by changing into his Jimber Lemon Arms, he is quickly outmatched and defeated.
* VillainHasAPoint: In the end, he's right about killing Ryoji being the only option, and that if he was allowed to run free he could have hurt a lot more innocent people. Kouta admits he may have a point, but argues that using justice as a rationalization for killing is wrong.
* VillainousBreakdown: A very minor one after Kouta and Kaito give him the slip in episode 15.
** A much bigger one after [[spoiler:Kouta beats him and steals his Lockseed in episode 21. Given how Sid was completely confident that he'd kill Kouta, the shock on his face after Kouta managed to decisively beat him is priceless.]]
* WeaponOfChoice:
** TheStraightAndArrowPath: Sonic Arrow
* WouldHurtAChild: Despite viewing the Beat Riders as kids, and them being ''much'' younger than him, he has no problem beating the tar out of them and trying to outright ''kill'' them.
* YouGotSpunk: A rather dark take on this trope. The reason why he gave Mitsuzane his Sengoku Driver was because he was impressed by his dark side. He also gave out the last three Drivers to teams willing to break away from Baron's alliance.
* YoureInsane: Kouta calls him this [[spoiler: after he reveals Yggdrasill's backup plan to nuke the city if the situation goes completely FUBAR.]]

[[quoteright:155:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yokominato_2830.jpg]]

An employee of Yggdrasill Corporation working under Ryoma Sengoku. She acts as his personal bodyguard and assistant in the company using her incredible martial arts.

Using the Peach Energy Lock Seed and the Genesis Driver, she can transform into New Generation Rider Marika.
----
* AllAmazonsWantHercules: While flirting with Kaito, she admits that she has a thing for powerful people.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Gives one to Kouta in #33. [[spoiler: Also doubles as a WhamLine.]]
-->'''Yoko:''' What are you going to do with your power?
-->'''Kouta:''' To protect everyone.
-->'''Yoko:''' And once they're safe?
* {{Badass}}: Her "debut" has her beat Kouta and Kaito like they're filled with candy. And doing so in a way that makes it seem like she was only phoning it in.
** BadassInANiceSuit: An Urobuchi staple.
* BattleButler[=/=]NinjaMaid
* BigDamnHeroes[=/=]VillainousRescue: Shows up just in time to save Baron from [[spoiler: Deemushu]] in #24.
* BodyGuardBabes: To Ryoma, though he doesn't really need one.
* BoyishShortHair
* DarkActionGirl -> [[spoiler:ActionGirl]]
* TheDragon: To Ryoma, whose side she never seems to leave as of late.
** DragonWithAnAgenda: When noted by Ryoma that she willingly holds herself back while fighting, he theorizes that she has a plan of her own. Not that he cares, it would only make things more interesting for him. And to further this theory of his, she does nothing to deny it and just gives a smug smile as a response.
* EnigmaticMinion: To Ryoma, she starts off as his SatelliteCharacter but her interactions with Kaito show that she has other plans.
* EvilCounterpart: To Ryugen. Both are are modeled on Eastern warriors, Ryugen being Chinese and Marika being Arabian. In terms of personality, they're both morally questionable and have UndyingLoyalty to another Rider.
** [[spoiler:{{Foil}}[=/=]GoodCounterpart: Though with Ryugen's downward slide, it's getting harder to call Marika the evil one of the two.]]
* {{Expy}}: Plays the role of [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Kyoko Sakura]] to Ryoji's Mami Tomoe. Bonus points for her peach theme, since Kyoko's sister is named "Momo".
* FragileSpeedster: The most nimble New Generation Rider.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Non-literal, but "Marika" is a derivative of Queen. And she can [[IncrediblyLamePun "royally" hand you your ass.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: After Ryoma abandons Yggdrasill, she joins Kaito at his side. It remains to be seen if this applies to her morally, though.
* HiddenDepths: Ryoma hints that she has the same level of hidden potential as Kouta. On top of that, she has yet to show her full power in combat. Even holding back, Kouta thinks she may be stronger than Sid.
* KickChick
* MagicSkirt
* MasterOfDisguise
* MsFanservice: Due to her kicking ass and climbing stairs in a DangerouslyShortSkirt.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace
* PerpetualSmiler: Unfortunately, it's a SlasherSmile.
* PetTheDog: In #24 she saves Kaito even though she didn't have anything to gain from it.
** Then when Ryoma is about to give Kaito the axe she convinces him to give Kaito a second chance and give him a Genesis Driver along with it.
* PinkMeansFeminine
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female Rider of eleven so far.
* StrangerBehindTheMask: Kind of. Duke and Sigurd's human identities were seen before their appearance, but Yoko was a new character.
* ShesGotLegs
* UndyingLoyalty: She appears to be completely devoted to Professor Ryoma, at least on the surface.
** After Ryoma bails in #32, this loyalty shifts to Kaito, whom she admittedly likes a lot more.
* TheVamp: Her advances on Kaito could be entirely manipulation.
* VillainRespect: In #28 she admits that she respects Takatora's abilities as a warrior and calls out Sid for underestimating him.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: She finds Kaito's endless search for more power exciting. Ryoma finds this investment to be especially strange considering her general disinterest in others.
* WeaponOfChoice:

[[folder:DJ Sagara]]
!!DJ Sagara
!!!Portrayed by: Tomomitsu Yamaguchi
[[quoteright:155:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/djsagara_1393.jpg]]

The host of "Beat Riders Hotline", an internet radio station with its finger on the pulse of Zawame City's urban scene. He reports on the activities of the Beat Riders street gangs and runs popularity polls to determine who the top dog is. He is actually an agent of Yggdrasill Corporation who uses his web channel to distribute propaganda and galvanize the conflict between the Beat Riders.
----
* AffablyEvil: Even if he is evil, the DJ is a very CoolOldGuy and an excellent judge of character, and all around good company.
* AlmightyJanitor: He's a mild-mannered DJ [[spoiler: who seems to have more power than anything barring an Overlord Inves or the Priestess.]]
* AnimalMotifs: [[spoiler:A snake.]]
* TheAntiNihilist
* [[spoiler: AmbiguouslyHuman: Knows the Priestess, can invade dreams, and apparently created the [[MidSeasonUpgrade Kachidoki Lockseed]] from an actual orange just by holding it. [[HolyShitQuotient The Hell is up with this guy?]]]]
** [[spoiler: And then #24 adds ''another'' detail: He was able to communicate with the Overlord Inves while using some sort of astral projection.]]
** [[spoiler: In that same scene, Redyue pretty much confirms he's not human when she asks if he's "assuming their form now?"]]
* AntiVillain: Unlike his co-workers, he is shown to respect the Beat Riders and even warned Takatora not to underestimate them. A later episode also shows him helping Kouta by springing him from an Yggdrasill holding cell and giving him a Lemon Energy Lock Seed with an adapter piece to use it with the Sengoku Driver. Whether he did that to be genuinely helpful or to help his own agenda is up in the air, however.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Gives one to [[spoiler: Roshuo.]]
--> '''DJ Sagara''': You'll let seven billion people die just to save the one woman you love?
* AuthorAppeal: Anyone who has seen Urobuchi's [[LightNovel/FateZero previous]] [[Anime/PsychoPass works]] should know he just loves nietzschean philosophy and Sagara loves to go on filibusters filled to the brim nietzschean undertones.
* BeneathSuspicion: [[SarcasmMode Yeah, like the DJ would be able to screw everybody over.]] [[spoiler: Even after he's found out, the New Generation Riders have trouble wrapping their heads around how thoroughly they've been played.]]
* [[spoiler:BigGood: Well maybe. He's certainly this when he starts helping Kouta. Time will tell if he's a subversion or not.]]
** [[spoiler:#24 seems to subvert it, he can communicate with the Overlords]]
*** [[spoiler:#31 takes it back in the other direction, with him calling Roshuo out on breaking the rules of the "game" (Helheim's invasion) and convincing him to give humanity a fair chance.]]
* CoolOldGuy: A rare (maybe) evil example. For a propaganda officer, DJ Sagara is one cool dude.
* [[spoiler:CrazyPrepared: When Redyue asks him why he's disguised as a human, he states "Unpreparedness is one's greatest enemy."]]
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Just ''why'' is he helping out the Beat Riders when the rest of Yggdrasill's left them for dead?
* EnigmaticEmpoweringEntity: To Kouta. [[spoiler: He gives Kouta a Lemon Energy Lockseed, the upgrade to use the Energy Lockseeds, the Kachidoki Lockseed, and finally the Kiwami Lockseed. Sagara's motivations are less than clear.]]
* EnigmaticMinion: He's proving to be even more enigmatic than Sid. [[spoiler: He might be Roshuo's minion, but even that's still up in the air.]]
* EvilCostumeSwitch: In a sense. [[spoiler: When conversing with the Overlord Inves, he wears white priest robes instead of his normal attire and when talking to Ryoma, he wears a completely snakeskin outfit.]]
* EvilGenius: Yggdrasill's third one. He's in charge of information control and propaganda.
* ExactWords: [[spoiler: In #32 Kouta accuses Sagara of lying about the Overlords. Sagara says he didn't lie - he told Kouta that Overlords ''could'' stop Helheim, but he never said that they ''would'' do it. Moreover, he never said that Kouta should try to talk to the Overlords, [[TakeAThirdOption as there is another solution...]]]]
* {{Expy}}: [[spoiler: Make a [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica contract]] with the DJ and become an Overlord!]]
* FairPlayVillain: [[spoiler: The reason why he's giving Kouta power ups is because he wants the fight for the Forbidden Fruit to be as fair as possible and he thinks that Yggdrasill started the game at an unfair advantage. Maybe, since Sagara has shown himself to be an ''excellent'' liar.]]
** [[spoiler:And again in #31, when he argues to Roshuo that humanity at least deserves a fair chance to obtain the Forbidden Fruit; this convinces Roshuo to create the Kiwami Lockseed from a portion of the Fruit.]]
* {{Foil}}[=/=]GoodCounterpart: To Sid of all people. [[spoiler:Both are {{Enigmatic Minion}}s, both are master manipulators, both give away artifacts that empower the Riders. But then they diverge: Sid wears black at all times, while Sagara dresses in bright colors, Sid is revealed to be the AntiRoleModel underneath his enigmatic exterior, while Sagara has actual depth, Sid handed Rider powers over to people who show negative character traits, while Sagara gave a power up to Kouta after he saw positive character traits.]]
** He's also one [[spoiler: to the Priestess. Both are extremely enigmatic figures who have the same mysterious powers concerning Helheim, both love vague philosophical filibusters, and both seem to be the only people who seem to know what the heck is going on. But then they diverge, the Priestess is a pessimistic, cynical fatalist who believe everyone is doomed to whatever fate she has saw and tells them to run. In contrast DJ Sagara is a cheery idealist who tells destiny to screw itself while convincing people to stand up and fight for what they believe in.]]
* GenreSavvy: He's the only member of the inner circle to realize that the Armored Riders weren't going to roll over and die after Yggdrasill didn't need them anymore.
* GogglesDoNothing
* TheGoodChancellor: [[spoiler: Seems to be this to Roshuo acting as his advisor and counseling him to give humanity a second chance.]]
* HiddenDepths: #7 shows that he's acquainted with Sid and Takatora, implying a connection to Yggdrasill Corporation and hinting a darker side to his character. One wonders if the sole purpose of his pirate radio station is not to provide excitement so much as to allow Yggdrasill to keep a close eye on their 'lab rats'.
** He's genuinely impressed by the Riders, so when Kouta tells him that he only wants power to help others, he is moved to help.
** He also has good insight into human nature.
** He's either a damn good hacker or has some other tricks up his sleeve, since he supposedly doesn't have the required clearance to access the area where Ryoma keeps the Genesis prototypes, but was able to steal them anyway.
** If all the above wasn't enough, #23 [[spoiler: makes us question whether or not he's entirely human due to his ability to transform a ''normal'' orange into the Kachidoki Lockseed. Heck, the same episode reveals he's acquainted with the Priestess in some form.]]
** [[spoiler:He personally knows the Overlords and is on speaking terms with Roshuo. He's even able to persuade Roshuo to give humanity a second chance.]]
* TheIdealist: In a direct contrast to the [[spoiler: Priestess.]]
* IRejectYourReality: [[spoiler: He tells Kouta that power can only be used to destroy...so Kouta should use his power to destroy the rule of reality where hope requires sacrifice.]]
* LargeHamRadio
* ManipulativeBastard: He manipulates people through his show to make them think that the Armored Riders are some kind of cool new fad instead of Yggdrasill's pawns.
** [[spoiler: More darkly, it's clear that he's manipulating Kouta for his own ends. He even admits as much in Episode 32.]]
* MrExposition: His job is to explain the new status quo each episode... well, the status quo Yggdrasill wants people to know.
* MysteriousBacker: [[spoiler:He decides to become Kouta's benefactor after being impressed by his inner ubermensch.]]
** [[spoiler:He is the one that gives Kouta the Kachidoki Lockseed. What's more, Ryoma doesn't recognize it as one of his projects.]]
** [[spoiler:He also gives Kouta the Kiwami Lockseed.]]
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagara_S%C5%8Dz%C5%8D Sagara Sozo]], whom some viewers may remember as [[RurouniKenshin the origin of Sagara Sanosuke's name]]. [[spoiler:He led the Sekiho army in an ill-fated rebellion, which is particularly appropriate considering what DJ Sagara's been doing.]]
* NiceCharacterMeanActor: InUniverse. On stage he's a friendly LargeHam, off stage he's a rude and condescending {{Jerkass}} towards Takatora.
** Then again, he was perfectly nice to Kouta in person and seems to be sympathetic to the Beat Riders' cause.
** Possibly explained in #23: [[spoiler:he thinks little of Takatora (and Yggdrasil) since Sagara sees the belief that "sacrificing innocents is a NecessaryEvil" as moral weakness. In contrast, he respects Kouta since he is determined to save everyone and refuses to compromise that belief.]]
* TheNicknamer: He's the one who gives Kouta, Micchi, and Oren their Armored Rider names.
* NotSoSmallRole: Thrice over. [[spoiler: At first he seems like a MrExposition BitCharacter, and is then revealed to be Yggdrasill's proganda officer, and when it looks like his role in the plot is done, he reveals himself to be quite the philosopher and becomes Kouta's MysteriousBacker. This is then turned up far beyond eleven when its revealed that he opposes the Priestess of Fate and has the same powers as her.]]
** As if that weren't enough, [[spoiler:he knows the Overlords and is on speaking terms with Roshuo, to the point that he's able to persuade him to give Kouta the Kiwami Lockseed.]]
* PetTheDog: In #15, when he learns that Kouta is being detained by Yggdrasill, he not only finds Kouta's cell but gives him a Lemon Energy Lock Seed, an adapter piece to use with his Sengoku Driver, and left behind his key card on the off chance Kouta could escape.
** Another in #18: where he aids the Beat Riders, going against Takatora's wishes.
*** Just to make himself even more [[MysteriousBacker mysterious]], he does it AGAIN in #19, gifting a Tuliphopper to the guys.
** And AGAIN in #23 [[spoiler: He pulled Kouta out of his Yuuya murder funk by pointing out that since power is only good for destroying things, why not use it to destroy the rule that "hope require sacrifice"?]]
** [[spoiler:He convinces Roshuo to give humanity a piece of the Forbidden Fruit so that they can prove themselves, leading to Kouta gaining the Kiwami Lockseed.]]
* ThePhilosopher: He often expounds on such things, particularly in episode #23.
* PleaseSpareHimMyLiege: [[spoiler: After Roshuo finished talking to Takatora in #31 he was going to write humanity off as a lost cause, cue Sagara showing up to convince him to give them a second chance.]]
* PropagandaMachine: His original job. He's...[[{{Understatement}} branched out]] since then.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He's very good at picking apart peoples' motivations and ideals.
** [[spoiler: He give an oddly polite and well meaning one to Kouta. He points out that without Yggdrasill's secret backing, the Beat Rider teams would have never gotten anywhere in life. Kouta can't disagree.]]
** [[spoiler: In #23, he gives one to Yggdrasill in general, calling them cowards that pretend to be strong but are too afraid to stand up for their beliefs. He criticizes their reluctant acceptance of the idea that innocent people must be sacrificed for the greater good; specifically, that they believe that it's morally wrong but choose to do it anyway.]]
* ScrewDestiny
* SharpDressedMan: Changes out of his goofy DJ clothes into a stylish grey suit in #25 when conversing with Ryoma.
* StealthHiBye: Demonstrates this occasionally. [[spoiler: In #23, he even borrowed a cue from the Priestess by supposedly invading Kouta's dream.]]
* SympathyForTheHero: When Kouta says he only wants power so he can protect the innocent, Sagara is pleased enough to leave behind a keycard, a Lemon Energy Lockseed, and the adapter piece to let him use it.
* TakeAThirdOption: He tries to get Kouta to do this. [[spoiler: When Kouta believes that the only way to save the world is through sacrifice, he tells Kouta about the Overlords and how they have the power to stop Helheim. Later on, when Kouta finds that the Overlords are not interested in saving humanity, Sagara tells Kouta to become an Overlord himself.]]
* TokenGoodTeammate: While Takatora is an AntiVillain, Sagara seems to be one of the only genuinely good characters besides him to work for Yggdrasill.
* TheUnchosenOne[=/=]TheChooserOfTheOne: [[spoiler: He seems to be both at once. According to the Priestess, he shouldn't be doing whatever it is he's doing. DJ Sagara basically tells her that he doesn't care and that he makes his own decisions.]]
* UnreliableExpositor: Sagara has appeared to three different factions and talked to them and supported their ideology to a certain degree all while giving contradictory information. It's unknown which side he even supports at this time, if he's even on a side.
* [[spoiler:VoluntaryShapeshifting: Heavily implied: in #24, Redyue asks him if he's "assuming their form." Before that, his hologram(?) entered as a snake before changing to his appearance. Deemushu even calls him a "damn snake".]]
* WeAreAsMayflies: A rather positive take on this trope. He points out that human lives are short, fragile, and insignificant, but it also inspires each individual human to be the best and most powerful person they can be.
* WeAllDieSomeday: In #15, the speech he gives to Kouta is about this.
* TheWatcher: Outright claims to be one in #25, though unlike most Watchers he clearly shows some biases and he's okay with interfering a little. (Okay, ''most'' Watchers interfere a little, but Sagara doesn't make any pretense that he's "supposed" to stay out of it.)
* WildCard: [[spoiler: In #23 he tells Kouta to find the Overlords, but then in #24 he's revealed to be in contact with them. In #25 he claims to Ryouma that he is an observer, and only helped out Kouta because Yggdrasil had an unfair advantage. He then says he'll give some help to Ryouma's group...but all he really does is confirm what Ryouma already deduced. (Although Ryouma seemed happy with that.)]]

[[folder:Kurokage Troopers]]
!!Kurokage Troopers
!!!Portrayed by: Yuki Anai (voice), various suit actors
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kurokage_9612.png

The private security force of Yggdrasill Corporation, who use a mass-produced version of the Sengoku Driver to transform into copies of Armored Rider Kurokage.
----
* CoolBike: The Dandeliners. Unlike the Beat Riders' cycles, these are ''hover'' bikes.
* DegradedBoss: When Ryoji was the only Kurokage, he was originally presented as roughly equal to the other Armored Riders (despite having lower stats). [[ConservationOfNinjutsu Now it's a Mook powerset.]]
* {{Mooks}}
** RedShirtArmy: Sort of; throughout the series, they're aren't shown to be that good at their job.
* {{Ninja}}: A cross between this and Japanese footsoldiers; moreso than Ryoji was. The Troopers are very good at magically appearing and disappearing like the warrior that they were based on.
* VillainTeleportation
* WeaponOfChoice:
** BladeOnAStick: The Kagematsu in Pinecone Arms.
** KillItWithFire: They are each sometimes equipped with flamethrowers, specifically to burn down all plants grown by Inves.
