Sixteen years of age, Kouta was a school loser who was often bullied by others. With the appearance of "them" this has changed dramatically. He is the best marksman in the group due to his secret obsession with firearms. Because of this, he winds up teaching the others how to use guns.

**Her rebuttal towards Hirano's explanation is that a good swordsmen would take care of his/her sword before it ever would be allowed to dull and that you have to count on the swordsmen skill as well. Also, unless the heroes find silencers, swords may be more practical then guns since "They" only hear and our heroes have to travel through hordes of Them.
