* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: Given his reputation as the most powerful and baddest demon in Hell, it's understandable that one would think he's a towering, larger-than-life figure. But Lucifer is actually quite short relative to many other demons -- he's somewhere around 5' 6"/167cm tall, in a world where demons being 8'/244cm wouldn't be seen as unusual. He's even shorter than his daughter Charlie, something Alastor gleefully ribs him over when they finally meet face-to-face.

* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's not actually ''that'' short, being slightly below average size for a human male at 5' 6"/167cm in height. But in a world where demons frequently top ten feet tall, he's definitely on the small side, a fact Alastor needles him about. He's also the most powerful being in Hell by a huge margin. Shown to its fullest when he's up against [[spoiler:Adam, a giant who overpowered Alastor without straining himself who Lucifer makes look like a joke before snapping and nearly vaporizing him.]]

* NormalFishInATinyPond: Zig-zagged. Lucifer is the most powerful being in Hell, initially seemingly because as a FallenAngel he can not only [[DeaderThanDead destroy demons permanently]], he's seemingly invulnerable to all demonic attacks. This allows him to throw his weight around, keep the populace of the Pride ring under his thumb and keep the likes of the other Deadly Sins from rising up. Later on, however, he's revealed to be a fallen ''Seraphim'', the highest ranking and most powerful angels, putting him in the same class as fellow Seraphim Sera and Emily. He's not only stronger than demons, he's ''much'' stronger than even a powerful angel like Adam, who he effortlessly trounces in a fight.

* VocalEvolution: In the pilot, she has a feminine voice. The series gives her a goofy masculine voice that sounds nearly identical to the one Brandon Rogers uses for Blitzo.

* AdaptationalHeroism: In Literature/TheBible, Lucifer was a once good angel who rebelled against God and Heaven due to his arrogance and pride and after [[FallenAngel falling]] became a malevolent ManipulativeBastard who tempted Adam and Eve into eating the fruit of knowledge and then continued to tempt their descendants into performing evil deeds. Here, Lucifer's backstory frames him as a "rebellious dreamer" who simply wanted to share the gift of free will with humanity, only for it to go horribly awry, and whose views were shunned not because he was an arrogant traitor, but because [[TheEvilsOfFreeWill Heaven's elders viewed any form of free will and independence as "wrong"]]. Even after being banished from Heaven, he is not portrayed as malicious ManipulativeBastard, but instead just a depressed ruler. To be perfectly fair, this ''could'' just be how [[UnreliableNarrator Lucifer and/or Lilith]] tells the story, but it lines up with other things shown throughout the series, including Lucifer's own characterization as a NiceGuy BumblingDad.

* HappilyMarried: Pictures in Lucifer's workroom show the family in merrily embracing each other and laughing showing they were all happy in the past. Subverted by the time of the actual show, however, as in episode 5 it's revealed that Lucifer and Lilith have "split" for some reason, and she has been mysteriously absent for seven years, [[spoiler:later revealed to be in Heaven]].

* StrongAndSkilled: As opposed to Charlie, who while [[UnskilledButStrong powerful lacks fighting experience]] due to her temperament, Lucifer not only is more powerful then her, but also has amazing combat skills, best shown when [[spoiler:runs circles around Adam without even breaking a sweat, utilizing his shapeshifting to avoid Adam's attacks, and his angelic strength to pound him]].

* AngelicBeauty: Lucifer is ''the'' FallenAngel, specifically a Seraphim, and is a PrettyBoy ChickMagnet.

Lucifer was cast down to Hell for defying the natural order and giving mankind free will, suffering from depression after ruling over the worst of mankind for millennia. But while Lucifer was cast out for his mistakes, Sera knows that divine judgment is a broken and unfair system [[spoiler:since no one knows what qualifies one for Heaven]] but maintains the status quo because she's too much of a moral coward to challenge it. Lucifer spent most of his life distant from his daughter due to his depression and initially attempts to dissuade Charlie from continuing the Hazbin Hotel out of fear of seeing her dreams get crushed like his were by Heaven, but after Charlie laments how he doesn't believe in her while others do, Lucifer was willing to swallow his pride and open up to his daughter about his failings and insecurities, [[RebuiltPedestal allowing them to understand each other better]], [[LikeParentLikeChild see them for who they are]], and [[WellDoneDad grow closer to the point where Lucifer begins to fully support her dream]]. Meanwhile Sera appears to be very close with Emily, but has been [[spoiler:keeping the exterminations a secret for millennia]] until Adam [[SaidTooMuch accidently mouthed off]] and left Emily horrified that Sera allowed this, Sera claims that she wanted to [[IDidWhatIHadToDo spare her the burden of making a difficult choice]] and was trying to keep Emily from questioning the system of divine judgment out of fear that she'll fall as Lucifer did, but all this did was drive Emily away in disgust and disillusionment by Sera's hypocrisy and LackofEmpathy towards sinners, accusing Sera of [[CondescendingCompassion talking down to her and treating her like a child all this time]], thereby [[BrokenPedestal ruining their relationship]] because of [[DirtyCoward Sera's fear of Hell, Heaven's status quo changing, and Emily's judgement]].

* EasyRoadToHell: [[ZigZaggedTrope Played with]]. On the one hand, small things like watching porn and being a screaming baby ''[[ExactWords could]]'' land you in Hell. ''Helluva Boss'' shows that someone can be a good person their entire life and still go to Hell for committing a single crime. [[ShowDontTell On the other hand]], given the [[AlwaysChaoticEvil overwhelming majority of Hell's population are pretty terrible people]], it's implied that its less you committing the crimes so much as it being a catalyst of existing morality to begin with -- [[ShapedLikeItself and that trigger overwhelmingly defaults to people who were pretty shit in life, one way or another]]. People like Lyle Lipton shows that Heaven isn't against the idea of taking people who are unpleasant but did no direct wrong by their standards; it's rather the combination of being an asshole on ''top'' of actively acting on that assholery that leads to damnation. It's a major reason why the overwhelming majority of demonkind tend to be assholes; if they weren't people who were terrible, they've done something terrible in life to each other. "Welcome to Heaven" reveals that [[spoiler:not even Heaven has any clue as to what gets a soul in or not when Adam lists a set of conditions when Charlie puts him on the spot, and Angel Dust fails to get in despite meeting every one of them.]]

** Lucifer is also one to Sir Pentious. Both are EndearinglyDorky {{Sad Clown}}s who put up a bluster to hide their insecurities from years of failures, however while Sir Pentious is a BeneathNotice ButtMonkey, Lucifer is the BrokenAce at the very top of the chain in Hell with all the power and charisma that Pentious yearns for. Pentious is the first person Charlie genuinely wins over to her redemption plan, and has [[FanOfTheUnderdog her instant sympathy and reverence]] [[EasilyForgiven even after initially duping her]], Lucifer's depression meanwhile has leant to a long-term distant and turbulent relationship with Charlie that he was only recently managed to mend. Both effectively play into Charlie overcoming the Extermination, Lucifer by [[CurbstompBattle effortlessly winning]], Pentious by [[HeroicSacrifice pitifully]] [[SpannerInTheWorks failing]]. Charlie rebuilds the Hotel both from the support of Lucifer and in memory of Sir Pentious. Both are also thematically associated with snakes, but while Lucifer was an angel cast down from Heaven, [[spoiler:Sir Pentious was the first sinner to ascend]].

* ArchangelLucifer: Aptly named Lucifer, he's the ruler of all of Hell. While there are Overlords and turf wars in Pentagram City, Lucifer is at the very top of the hierarchy as a fallen angel. On a side note, while he may be the Devil in the series, Lucifer isn't Satan, who is actually a completely different demon. According to Viv in [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=PKARLiCRocA&t=2660 a livestream]] and [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=fvEU9NOokPM&t=2610 a Q&A]], the series draws inspiration from a mixture of elements from multiple theologies and among them included is Lucifer, Satan, and Beelzebub being separate characters as opposed to being just the same demon per later religious interpretations and etc.
