* HaremSeeker: As a kid, he really wanted to make a Harem out of a desire to avoid being [[HatesBeingAlone lonely]]. He'd typically only approach someone about it once, and if they refused he'd leave them alone. Certain people like Jasmine however he'd be unable to accept no for an answer, with Azazel thinking its because Issei realized Jasmine has something he ''needs'' more than anything, even if only subconsciously. This behavior though has gotten him into trouble sometimes though, namely when he asked Tiamat, and her response was to try and jump his 10-year-old bones. Nowadays, however, he's abandoned his dreams of a Harem entirely.

* {{Sadist}}: Raynare wouldn't be Raynare without a sadistic streak to her, and her main enjoyment comes from watching Issei torment the devils of Kuoh, or from watching him in one of his depressions when she doesn't have to take care of him. Borders on TooDumbToLive territory however when she does it to Issei, however, specifically when he's looking for an outlet for his frustrations. One such occasion caused him to chase her with two magically-enhanced dildos for three hours.

* PetTheDog: After seeing Issei was in the middle of an anxiety attack, they stopped accusing him of peeping on him and tried to offer their assistance. Because Issei HatesBeingTouched however, he almost attacked them, only being saved thanks to Rias quickly telling them she'd take care of him.

* PragmaticHero: Sympathetic and remorseful to Issei he may be, however he recognizes that VaguenessIsComing, and that they can't afford to let Issei stay a {{hikikomori}} any longer. To this end, he manipulates Rias into becoming friends with Issei, hoping she and her peerage can help Issei readjust to society, while Issei can in turn help them with their issues.

* DarkAndTroubledPast: While there are still many things absent from it, his childhood appears to have taken a rough turn after he was betrayed by his friend "White". [[spoiler:White drugged him then attempted to [[RapeAsDrama rape him]] and turn him into a devil in her peerage after being aided by a member of the Phenex family, then attempted to kill him when trying to recruit him while living failed. When she failed, she turned the accusation around on him and made everyone think he raped ''her''. Those that believed him she went after causing them to abandon him, and those that didn't turned on him and sided with her. TheAlliance meanwhile couldn't touch her and effectively had to leave Issei out to dry, causing him to snap and go on a rampage in the underworld. It took the combined might of all four maou, Azazel, and Michael to restrain him and calm him down, the six of them all receiving permanent scars in the process, and half the underworld razed beyond recognition.]] Once stopped and able to realize what happened, Issei practically shut down and [[{{Hikikomori}} locked himself up at home]], and refused to trust anyone ever again.
* TheDreaded: The Biblical Factions don't necessarily fear Issei, but rather the Sekiryutei. [[spoiler:After his rampage in the underworld necessitated the maou, Azazel, and Michael together to stop him, most believed they had killed the Sekiryutei. The destruction he caused left a permanent impact on all three factions, making many fear the power of the Sekiryutei, and TheAlliance in turn hiding his continued existence for the sake of making sure no one attempted to attack him for what he'd done.]]
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: The best most people can do is ''tolerate'' Issei, and at times feel pity for him. They have no choice but to be near him however either due to being his classmates or working with him. The only ones exempt from this are those aware he's hiding a HiddenHeartOfGold and really is a BrokenBird, including the faction heads, Gasper, Asia, and Rias. Even they have their limits though.

* HiddenHeartOfGold: Issei purposely acts like an asshole to push others away, so that they can think he doesn't need help and so they won't want to be near him. The Facade falls apart when he goes out of his way to help people however, showing them that to an extent he actually does care, and in turn making them try to get past his rough exterior. Raynare, Gasper, Asia, Rias, and Akeno are a few that managed to figure this out, but only Gasper, Asia, and Rias desire to want to help him rather than still get irritated.
* IrrationalHatred: Issei hates two things with little exception: birds and the color White, the sole exception to the latter being Vali. When Kiba tried having his Falcon familiar monitoring him, Issei noticed and did [[NoodleIncident something]] to it that required it take a day off, only for Issei to spot it again thousands of meters above him, and cause the poor Falcon to refuse to ever return to Kuoh again. [[spoiler:Both become {{subver|tedTrope}}sions with the revelation both were involved with his DarkAndTroubledPast. His former friend "White" is the one who caused it, and a useless "Bird" helped facilitate the incident.]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: After believing he was responsible for [[spoiler:Baraquiel being unable to save Shuri and Akeno, he spent weeks without sleep trying to track Akeno down.]] As this was detrimental to his health, Azazel, Ghost, and Ddraig worked together to erase his memory of [[spoiler:Akeno]]. The effects aren't permanent however, as just being near [[spoiler:her]] is causing Issei to get a nagging feeling in the back of his mind.
* TheNicknamer: Issei has a habit of giving everyone but a select few nicknames. According to [[AlmightyMom Asami]], Issei does this because he has trouble remembering their names otherwise, and that the nicknames has some level of basis behind them.
* NoodleIncident: Issei has had some rather, ''peculiar'' moments in his life.

* OnlyFriend: Or rather friends. After his DarkAndTroubledPast, Issei had difficulty making and maintaining bonds. He has very few true friends anymore, roughly two total, one of which being Vali.

* PlayingWithFire: As a Dragon-hybrid, Issei has a natural affinity for Fire. While he's a tad rusty after not using it for five years, he's still skilled enough to create sentient dragon shaped constructs, something Sona is still trying to manage with her water constructs.
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: Issei gives on to Viser before tearing her up from the inside out.
--> Issei: "Oi. Monster drug bitch. A bit of trivia. The words "I'm a medic" are synonymous with the words "I know how to fuck with your insides." I'm fucking you. Start screaming."
* RedRightHand: Issei's right arm is always covered by a white bandage like cloth. Publicly, he claims his arm was severely burned in an accident. In truth though, his hand is covered in a sealing cloth from Heaven meant to seal away the Blind Eternity Sacred Gear, and with it, Ghost.

* TheGhost: An InUniverse version. While the Sekiryutei is often brought up by many characters, just as many are unaware Issei is the still living Sekiryutei, they are just as unaware of Ddraig's presence. Since his presence would automatically give Issei's identity away, he has to stay silent until only Issei or those in the know are around.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While he's usually the OnlySaneMan to Issei, he'll gladly let Issei use the Boosted Gear as {{hammerspace}} in exchange for regular orders of bacon made from Circe's pigs.

One of the retainers to Zuzushi, Ghost found his way into the High School [=DxD=] universe after hearing the Oopai Dragon ThemeTune. After being chased around by Ophis however since she wanted him to kick Great Red out of the Dimensional Gap, he jumped into Issei in the hopes of hiding from her, only to get himself stuck in there as his second Sacred Gear, the Blind Eternity. Making the best of a bad situation, he decided to become TheMentor to Issei. In the present however, he is sealed away after Issei's DarkAndTroubledPast.

* AdaptationalHeroism: Raynare is assigned by Azazel to be Issei's attendant this time around, and when Dohnaseek tries to get her involved with capturing Asia, she turns him down. She retains her disdain for devils and frequently threatens to kill Issei when he annoys her however.

* MillionToOneChance: Fallen infant mortality rates are very high, so Raynare being born a fallen itself is lucky, but even moreso regarding her [[spoiler:bearing all SevenDeadlySins. Most born fallen bear more than one due to their parentage, and often die due to being unable to recognize or handle their sin. Raynare meanwhile was born with all seven sins, a theoretical fluke, and managed to live just shy of a hundred years.]]
* MrViceGuy: Gender inverted, but Raynare frequently indulges in each of the seven deadly sins. She's quick to anger, mainly lazes around at Issei's house and eats his food, has great pride as a Fallen, uses Issei's merchandise for several hours straight, tries to take whatever she likes, and is easily jealous of those that have more than her. [[spoiler:Becomes a plot point when Issei learns that she bears all SevenDeadlySins, and leads Issei to suspect Azazel made her Issei's handler deliberately because of it.]]

Formerly the "Holy Maiden", Asia is an excommunicated nun bearing the Twilight Healing Sacred Gear, forced to flee to Japan after she accidentally healed a devil. After said devil hired Dohnaseek, Mittelt, and Kalawarner to capture her and deliver her corpse to him, she was unintentionally saved thanks to running into Issei. By Michael's decree, she now lives at the Hyoudou house as Heaven's representative in Kuoh. In secret though, Michael and TheAlliance have plans for her and Issei.

* TheBeastmaster: TheAlliance all refer to her as an unrecognized "Dragon Tamer", and had intended on trying to get one close to [[HatesBeingTouched Issei]] before she appeared. Once Michael and Azazel hear she not only managed to touch Issei, but hug him too without a reaction, they can't decide whether her showing up in front of Issei was a ContrivedCoincidence, or if "White" is working behind the scenes again.

* IdiotHair: A particularly large one underneath her habit. First seeing it causes Issei to go AttentionDeficitOohShiny for a few seconds, remarking how it looks perfect.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Issei deliberately invokes this by saying she is "Obnoxiously cute, stupidly innocent, and liable to wander onto a highway and become road kill if you take your eyes off of her", comparing her to a puppy. After he comes to the conclusion she is also a ninja, he is convinced she is actually evil and that he has unleashed evil on the world, despite her not changing at all.
* LanguageBarrier: Due to not being a Devil this time around, she doesn't possess the ability to speak and understand all languages universally, leaving her stuck to her native Italian. This leaves Issei incapable of understanding her and requiring the Devils, Raynare, and Asami serving as translators. While she is learning Japanese from Asami, its gonna take some time.

* DomesticAbuse: Issei manages to identify numerous bruises and abrasions, including choke marks, on one of their freshmen members after the Perverted Duo point them out during their peeping. He notices they're all in locations hard to notice when clothed, and that they're pretty old, indicating long time domestic abuse.

* AlmightyJanitor: Officially she is only the Head Maid of the Gremory household and Sirzechs' wife and Queen, she is still considered one of the strongest Devil's, her power matching that of the Maou, enough to earn her the RedBaron: '''The Silver-Haired Queen of Annihilation'''.

The former heir to the Glasya-Labolas household, Falbium Asmodeus was considered one of the strongest Devil's after the Great War, and was thus selected to inherit the title of ''Asmodeus''. An extremely lazy fellow, he is the Head of Military Affairs in the Underworld, but tends to just pass his workload off onto his peerage and servants.

* GreaterScopeVillain: She is ultimately the one responsible for Issei's DarkAndTroubledPast, [[spoiler:having tried to rape him and reincarnate him into her peerage before turning the accusations on him when that failed]], and TheAlliance is working to get Issei readjusted to society for when she inevitably returns.
* ManipulativeBitch: She very rarely works directly, rather manipulates others and orchestrates events to suit her favor. Case in point, [[spoiler:after she failed to reincarnate Issei into her peerage and he escaped her, she made it out to look like Issei tried to rape ''her'', and eliminated anyone who still stuck with him despite those claims so he'd have no one left, and so she could go after him again.]]

* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: [[spoiler:Part of Issei's DarkAndTroubledPast is the implication White raped him, then turned the accusation back on him to make sure he'd be abandoned by everyone. [[WouldHurtAChild Issei at the time was only 13 when she did this.]]]]

** The reason the Phenex household is pushing for Riser and Rias' engagement. They only began pushing for it once Rias became the overseer of Kuoh, and should Rias be forced to marry Riser, Sona would be left on her own with Kuoh, allowing "White" the opportunity to offer her "help". In addition, the Phenex's suddenly pushing for the engagement further hampers {{the alliance}}s attempts at acclimating Issei, as they planned for initially having a year to work with, but at the current rate they'll likely only get a month, which is not enough time for Issei to adjust. [[spoiler:Supporting this is that based on Ghost's comments in Issei's FlashbackNightmare, a "bird" helped her in her attempts on him, and the Phenex family's symbol is the Phoenix, a bird.]]

The Welsh Dragon of the Heavenly Dragons, Ddraig was sealed within the Boosted Gear upon being killed by the Biblical God, destined to have his wielder's do battle with his rival's wielders. His current wielder is the young Issei Hyoudou, though he is unwilling joined by the retainer of Zuzushi, Ghost, much to his exasperation.

* UnprovokedPervertPayback: {{Averted|Trope}}. They almost blamed Issei for the Perverted Duo's attempt to peep on them, but quickly relented after seeing he was in the middle of a panic attack after he denied peeping an identified one of the girls was a victim of DomesticAbuse.

And she will stop at nothing until he is hers.]]

** The reason Asia ended up lost in Kuoh. While Diadora was still the one who got her excommunicated and hired Dohnaseek, Kalawarner, and Mittelt to extract her Twilight Healing and deliver her body to his servants, the fact she was let out of their site and just happened to find Issei, and also just happened to be a [[{{Beastmaster}} Dragon Tamer]] makes the Maou, more specifically Falbium, see it as too much of a ContrivedCoincidence, leading them to suspect White orchestrated it for when she returns for Issei. This not only derails Diadora's attempt at recruiting her into his peerage, it gets the Fallen caught by Issei and practically turned into his slaves.

The last remaining member of the Lucifuge Family in Hell and their former Heiress, Grayfia fell in love with her husband Sirzechs in the middle of the Great War, eventually defecting to his side and marrying him. She is not an official member of the Maou, rather she serves as Head Maid for the Gremory household. Despite this though, she often is at Sirzech's side making sure he stays on task and doesn't get too crazy, and her power leaves her on par with the Maou.

* AlmightyJanitor: Officially she is only the Head Maid of the Gremory household and Sirzech's wife and Queen, she is still considered one of the strongest Devil's, her power matching that of the Maou, enough to earn her the RedBaron: '''The Silver-Haired Queen of Annihilation'''.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: With Sirzech's being a BunnyEarsLawyer, Grayfia is often in charge of making sure he actually does his work and doesn't spend too much time either goofing off or doting on Rias.

* CommanderContrarian: {{Downplayed|Trope}}, by Falbium is the least convinced by Sirzech's attempts at manipulating Rias and Issei, pointing out numerous flaws in the plan and that "White" is acting as a SpannerInTheWorks for them. While he agrees with the overall idea of readjusting Issei to the outside world, he considers Sirzech's methods unappealing.

* OnlySaneMan: Among TheAlliance, the role ultimately falls on him. While the others are all celebrating Asia being a [[{{Beastmaster}} Dragon Tamer]] and how lucky they are she met Issei, Falbium points out the sheer unlikeliness of that being a coincidence, and that Asia's presence in Kuoh is a sign "White" is making a move for Issei again, whereas even with Sirzech's plan they aren't ready.

* BerserkButton: He's got several, mainly that he HatesBeingTouched, and the color White.

A grunt in the Grigori organization, Raynare is tasked with being Issei's handler and the Grigori's representative in Kuoh by Azazel. As such, she is the only one in Kuoh aware of Issei's true identity and is forced to be with him constantly, something that annoys her to no end.
