* {{Determinator}}: God knows what promises/bribes he made to his superiors and how deeply he went in debt to creditors to be assigned to his old village and receive the loans he needed to fund digging in the mines, but he's implied to have spent ''decades'' putting himself into incredible levels of arrears on both fronts just to be put into a position that would give him a ''chance'' to '''metaphorically''' overcome Konjin and '''metaphorically''' steal Ichihime away from him. The current shogun who rules over Yamato with an iron fist, with the ambition of expelling foreigners and asserting his own authority over its people.
----
* BigBadWannabe: As the Ashikaga Shogun, he's supposed to be the main threat, but his actions pales in comparison of the widespread destruction caused by Ginseigo, ultimately making him no more than a nuisance in the grand scheme of things.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: His death is simply mentioned in a newspaper at the start of both Ichijo's and Kanae's routes.
* EvilOverlord: He is an incredibly tyrannical man who readily abuses his power over Yamato. It is also revealed that GHQ was counting on this as his tyranny will make him so hated that they then can move in and "save" Yamato from him, earning themselves an easy victory.
* KilledOffScreen: In Ichijo's and Kanae's routes he is killed at the start of the chapter with his death simply being mentioned in a newspaper with Akitaka revealing that there was just a crater left of the shrine he had been visiting at the time.

The young grandson of Moriuji, who's the next in line for the succession. As he lived a cloistered life surrounded with servants due to his status, he became apathetic to his status as the heir.
----
* AChildShallLeadThem: Kageaki guesses he is little more than twelve and he is already in a position of leadership over the Rokuhara Shogunate after the death of his grandfather.
* ArrangedMarriage: In the ''Nemesis'' route he is to be married to Kanae's sister Hanae as a means for Shishiku to consolidate power.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: Even though he is the current head of a ruthless Shogunate he is just a little boy who would much rather practice soccer than actually rule.
* LonelyAtTheTop: Due to his status as the future shogun, he is only surrounded by servants and has no one he can call an equal leaving him mostly alone.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Ends up completely smitten by Sakurako the first time he meets her and tries to mend things between the two houses.
* PuppetKing: In spite of being the grandson of the Shogun he has very little actual power due to his age, something that Shishiku takes full advantage of to legitimize his own standing.
* ShelteredAristocrat: Due to his status he has been forced to live an incredibly sheltered life, to the point that he doesn't even know how to put on or lace his shoes.
* ThatsAnOrder: When he has had enough of Doshin's depravity he invokes his position as prince for him to stop. Neither Doshin nor the princes guards listen to him.
* YesMan: Not the prince himself, but rather the numerous people that constantly surround him, constantly giving him hollow praise and never given him any sort of useful critique or advice to help him improve. A big reason to why he warms up to Kageaki so quickly as he speaks up and gives him advice.

!! Shishiku Otori
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/st_93.png]]

The Governor of Sasagawa Province, who was involved in a coup against the Otori Clan. He's known for his devotion to his deceased foster father and his ambition, due to his rapid rise through the ranks at his young age.
----
* ArcVillain: He's the main target of Kanae during the events of ''Nemesis'', as the one who killed her father to take over the Otori clan.
* BadBoss: He will not hesitate to cut down his subordinates if he thinks they are underperforming.
* ChekhovsSkill: As a former assassin, he possesses several skills to get around his opponent on a duel. One such technique has him pointing his sword towards the enemy in a specific pattern in order to throw off his balance and accuracy. This becomes important near the end of ''Nemesis'', where Kageaki effectively uses it to disrupt Kanae's aim with Burroughs.
* CombatPragmatist: As he is a former assassin he favors cheap tricks and deception in a fight in order to ensure a quick and efficient kill.
* EnragedByIdiocy: He is quite prone to loosing his temper from all the lunacy that surrounds him with the other generals.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Doshin's peculiar idea of a Noh play makes him react with outrage and contempt.
* HairTriggerTemper: While he tries to keep a cool air about himself, it soon becomes clear that this man has some serious issues with his temper and starts to fly into a blind rage with disturbing ease.
* KlingonPromotion: To take control of the Otori clan, he eventually chose to stage a coup against the previous head Otori Tokitsugu, becoming the de facto head of the Otori, while having Tokitsugu's young daughter Otori Hanae as a PuppetQueen.
* OnlySaneMan: Acts as the closest thing as the voice of reason amongst the four generals. Though even he is not above getting under the skin of Raicho.
* ProfessionalKiller: It is revealed that before he took lead of the Otori house he was in fact an assassin serving his lord. He viewed it as the ultimate humiliation for someone like him to be forced into the leadership role, walking all over the legacy of his former master.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: He had been told in advance about the nuke about to be dropped on Fudaraku Fortress. Rather than telling the other generals he gathered his own forces and had them evacuate the premises without the others knowledge, planning to take advantage of the power vacuum that would result from their demise.
* SlasherSmile: He is incredibly prone of wicked grins whenever he starts to loose his temper or get overcome by bloodlust. While he is only quarter related, [[InTheBlood he still has the Otori blood running through his veins]].
* TheWorfEffect: After giving Kageaki a run for his money during their duel in ''Nemesis'', he met his demise some time later, at the hands of Kanae, who's able to see through his tsurugi's camouflage.

[[folder:Doshin Yusa]]
!! Doshin Yusa
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/st__a_2.png]]

The Governor of Koga Province, who appears as a hedonistic monk. His strange personality and erratic behavior makes him somewhat hard to predict, but he claims to have the country's best interests at heart.
----
* TheAnticipator: As Kageaki and Ichijo begin to put the plan to cause a ruckus inside Fudaraku Fortress into motion, they end up running into an ambush with Doshin happily waiting for them. Turns out he had figured out long ago that they where spies and what they were up to.
* ArcVillain: He's the main opponent of Ichijo during the events of ''Hero'', representing everything she hates.
* BaldOfEvil: Being a priest he is bald by default and as wicked as they come.
* CardCarryingVillain: The man knows he is wicked and straight up boasts about it as there so far has been no power, political or divine, that has touched him for his actions.
* DieLaughing: Even as he lays dying and Ichijo is repeatedly stabbing him to death, he just keeps on laughing and taunting her. After all, this was what she wanted, was it not?
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: Is killed fairly quickly in ''Nemesis'' where he ends up caught in the nuke.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Some time after his death, it is revealed he saved a family from death, taking the woman as a concubine with her brother Yoshikiyo as his page. Needless to say, both didn't take his death well and later confront Ichijo about it.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: It seems his idea of a joke is saying that it was ''bonebreaking'' work when he made that mask from the bones of Sakurako's father. Shishiku later calls him out on it.
* EvilLaugh: While he is prone of hearty laughers at inopportune times and it is clear that there is something wrong with this priest from early on, it is once he reveals his true colors for all to see that he truly belts a wicked bellow.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He in general just tries to come off as a kindly, if a bit odd, priest, something that conceals an incredibly cruel nature. This is best shown when he presents a mask and a cup as a gift to Sakurako only to then reveal that the mask was made from her fathers bones and the cup from the skull of her brother. Even the whole Noh play was to set up for her to be the "lead actor" so to speak in the second act which was supposed to be a so called madness play.
* TheGadfly: He loves messing with people, most of the time simply for his own amusement.
* GenuineHumanHide: It turns out that the mask he used during the Noh play made in the likeness of Sakurako's father and the cup he just served her a drink with was made from the bones of said father and the skull of her brother respectively. Suffice to say, she is terrified when she finds out.
* GutFeeling: In ''Nemesis'' he really shouldn't have had any reason to suspect that the GHQ airship that was flying over the fortress at the time was anything unusual. All the standard stuff had been done. And yet his intuition told him that they better prepare. He was right. Though unfortunately it didn't matter as what they were about to do was to drop a nuke, and his action came too late.
* TheHedonist: He is someone who readily abuses his position to do whatever he wants to just to fulfill his random cravings.
* ItAmusedMe: He just acts on whatever random whim hit him and will do it simply for the amusement it brings, be it to try and break the mind of a girl, or save the family of a young boy.
* LargeHam: About everything about the guy is large, hamminess included.
* LaughablyEvil: He is someone that often tries to joke and come off as funny, even though it is mostly he himself to ends up laughing at it.
* ManipulativeBastard: He really has a way with words and is excellent at getting the other generals to act in the ways he wants them to to get his way.
* MasterActor: Both in the literal and figurative sense. He is both a great actor on stage and in person to make people act in ways he find benefical to himself.
* OhMyGods: When he realizes that he has been caught by Masamune's 4th tool, he can only loudly exclaim "PARVATI'S TITS".
* SinisterMinister: And Eastern variant as he is a Shinto monk. While he is soft-spoken and seemingly kind, it is clear even early on that this guy is far from what one would call saintly.
* VillainRespect: Played with. While he praises Ichijo acomplishment in killing him, he does so as a means to taunt her and to point out the contradition in her beliefs.
* WouldYouLikeToHearHowTheyDied: Not so much how they died, but more what he did after they were dead, but he describes in disturbing detail how he made the mask and cup to Sakurako from her fathers and brothers bones.

!! Raicho Imagawa
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/st_873.png]]

The Governor of Oyumi Province and Moriuji's only son. Despite being his direct descendent, he was disinherited due to his lack of charisma, instead having his grandson as heir. Ever since, he's driven by the desire to become the next shogun only to get mocked by the other three Generals.
----
* BerserkButton: Saying anything or hinting in any way that he isn't beautiful will set him off right away.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: Is slaughtered by Hikaru in Ichijo's route before Kageaki can reach him. In Kanae's route he is instead caught in the nuke that was dropped on Fudaraku Fortress before he could do anything.
* ButtMonkey: Frequently acts as the butt end of the teasing from the other generals.
* CampStraight: Dresses in an incredibly gaudy and flamboyant manner with long flowy hair and even sparkles added to his armor, complete with makeup.
* ComicalOverreacting: One of the most expressive characters in the novel, often reacting in incredibly over the top fashion.
* DiggingYourselfDeeper: In his attempts to get the other generals help against Prince Haruhiro he only ends up saying more things that puts him more and more on the spot.
* FieryRedhead: Redhaired and temperamental.
* GeneralFailure: While he is part on the Rokuhara, he is only part thanks to his father, not his talents. as such, he is horribly inept at the things his position demands.
* INeverSaidItWasPoison: Having grown paranoid due to the all the things that went wrong at Fudaraku Fortress, he tries to get help from the remaining generals to get at Prince Haruhiro. They however point out that it is odd that he would suspect the least likely culprit first of all rather than some of the more likely suspects like the GHQ for instance unless of course, he knows something about it all. This forces him to deal with it all on his own without the help of the others if he wants to clean up this mess.
* KilledOffScreen: In Ichijo's route he ends up killed by Hikaru in the time it takes for Kageaki to reach his fortress, but not without doing some damage to Ginseigo.
* {{Narcissist}}: Self centered and stuck up to say the least, even having a daily alone time in front of the mirror to admire himself.
* {{Nepotism}}: Is only really a general thanks to the fact that his father is the Shogun.

The previous Governor of Horigoe Province, brother of Moriuji and Chachamaru's father. Some time before the events of Muramasa, he was murdered by his own daughter, who then took his place as his successor.
----
* PosthumousCharacter: Already dead by the beginning of the story, but his actions paved the way for Chachamaru's plans in ''Conqueror''.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/st_5.png]]

The captain of a unit dispatched to his former village in order to exploit the nearby mines, whom he suspects to hide some kind of treasure.
----

* BadBoss: He basically took and enslaved the village he was originally from and proceeds to work the villagers to the bone in the nearby mines. And he is not shy of executing people for the smallest infraction, be it defiance or just being to exhausted to continue working.
* LoveTriangle: He was in love with an Emishi woman called Ichihime, the same woman Yagenta was in love with as well. This lead to quite the rivalry between them that persists to this day even though she dumped them both.
* WakeUpCallBoss: Despite being a low ranking soldier of the Rokuhara Shogunate, he gives Kageaki a run for his money in Chapter 2 and almost kills him on their first encounter, showing what an experienced soldier with a older dragoon model fares against Kageaki, who only wielded Muramasa for two years.
* WhenIWasYourAge: Really likes to go on about how youngsters these days takes things far too much for granted and that people of the past had actual grit in them.
* {{Yandere}}: The guy is obsessed with Ichihime to the point that when he meets her grand-niece, he is determined to make her his even if he has to kill her.

[[folder:Kotaro Fuma]]
!! Kotaro Fuma
[[quoteright:319:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/st_44.png]]

A strange fellow seen accompanying Nagasaka in his mission for excavating the mines. Appears as a silly kunoichi with the voice of an old man, and is also a hardened Musha, who wields the tsurugi Gassan.
----
* AmbiguousGenderIdentity: Has the appearance of a young kunoichi, but possesses the voice of an old man while also talking like one.
* BloodKnight: While they mostly fight for the money due to their clan having been left destitute, fighting for the thrill of battle itself is at least a decent consolation price.
* OhCrap: As soon as he realizes that Gassan's trick has been discovered he suddenly becomes a lot more desperate and fights much more seriously in order to not lose his advantage.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Thanks to certain shenanigans, Kotaro looks like a young woman while clearly being far, far older.
* VocalDissonance: Looks like a busty redheaded woman, talks like an old man with the voice to match.

[[folder:Jo'ansai Yagyu]]
!! Jo'ansai "Bartholomew" Yagyu
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/st_67.png]]

The master of the Yagyu style swordsmanship and leader of the Umaya-shu, a special unit of bodyguard for the Rokuhara Shogunate.
----
* BadassNormal: He's able to fight off tsurugi users with nothing but his sword technique and augmented vision.
* MasterSwordsman: A swordsman without peer who is able to effortlessly go up against a tsurugi equipped opponent, something that is normally considered the height of lunacy. Even Kageaki felt like he was some kind of actor in a movie as the whole thing just came across as too ridiculous for him to believe.
* GracefulLoser: A strange case as he displays this in a situation where he is winning. This is due to Kageaki realizing that he doesn't need to fight Jo'ansai, only escape, something he accomplishes. As a result of this, he actually misleads his Umaya-shu troops when they show up and even cuts one of them down as he saw through the ruse. All cause he viewed Kageaki as worthy.
* OldMaster: He was one of those that trained Mizuhi in his school of swordsmanship.
* VillainRespect: Ends up gaining quite a bit of respect for Kageaki as he proves to be a quick learner and capable of flexible thinking.
* WarriorPoet: A samurai and well versed in poetry.
