* FlowerOfRomance: Averted. He tries to give Sue a lily in the first film, only to walk into her room and discover that Victor has filled her room with [[UpToEleven multiple extravagant bouquets.]] Before he leaves, though, he tells the nurse--who was about to place some orchids by Sue's bedside--that Sue is allergic to them and to put sunflowers (her favorite) instead. Sue, who up until that point had simply been pretending to be asleep, smiles in a fashion that clearly tells the audience how touched she is by the gesture.

** While searching for Ben on the crowded bridge in the first film, Johnny notices a young girl standing near a leaky gas tank. When it explodes, Johnny ''immediately'' shields her ''with his own body'' and gently asks her afterwards if she's okay. And this was ''before'' he even knew he was impervious to flame.

* AwesomeMcCoolName: Before she was married, anyway. She also shares this with her younger brother, Johnny.

* WorkingWithTheEx: In the first film, she has to work together with Reed after a bad break up. It quickly becomes apparent there's still a lot of UnresolvedSexualTension in their interactions.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Johnny may be younger than Sue, but in a conversation with Ben, it's obvious that he cares about her--and her feelings--very much.

A test pilot and old friend of Reed Richards. He faced the most exposure to the cosmic cloud, being trapped outside when the space station was engulfed, leaving him with the most profound mutation of any member of the team. He is a being of living rock, making him both extremely durable and extremely strong but at the cost of losing his human appearance (his power not within his control, unlike the rest of the team).

* AlwaysNeedWhatYouGaveUp: His transformation into the Thing is reversed just in time for Victor to reveal his villainy and attack. So [[HeroicSacrifice willingly gets his powers back to stop him.]]

* BlessedWithSuck: Unlike the rest of the team, his powers are permanent and he's stuck in his super strong and durable but hideous rock monster form. He deeply envies his teammates for having superpowers that don't strain their appearance.
* BlindAndTheBeast: He finds true love with the blind Alicia, who cares for him by his personality and not his looks.
* BrainsAndBrawn: He and Reed have this Dynamic, with [[TheBigGuy Ben]] acting as the Brawn.

* ButtMonkey: He has difficulty doing even the most mundane of tasks with his heavy, rock-like body, as he can't even lift a cup or bowl up properly or use an elevator.
* CatchPhrase: "It's Clobbering Time", whenever [[PreAssKickingOneLiner he's about to kick ass]].
* DrivenToSuicide: Averted. He contemplates jumping off a bridge after he becomes The Thing and his fiancee leaves him. Though the opportunity to use his powers for good in rescuing civilians on the bridge changes his mind, even if it doesn't really lift his spirits.
* GeniusBruiser: One of the few versions where he is just as clever and savvy as you'd expect from a former test pilot and astronaut. In the sequel, he even recognizes Hager's "comet" can't be a real comet since "the trail is all wrong".

* CivvieSpandex: The films straddle the line, being body-hugging but clearly not spandex. The funny part is that before they get their powers they wear these same suits under their spacesuits and the jumpsuits worn on the space station. That's right folks, they're literally wearing long underwear.

* ReluctantHero: Initially all except Johnny, of course.

* BrainsAndBrawn: He and Ben have this Dynamic, with [[ScienceHero Reed]] acting as the Brains.
* CommitmentIssues: Before the movies started, he broke up with Sue when she suggested they move in together.
* TheLeader: He's the leader of the Fantastic Four and usually makes the big decisions for the team.
* LockedIntoStrangeness: In this movie, his grey temples result from the cosmic radiation that gave him his powers.

* PowerPerversionPotential: A few female reporters in the first film have ([[AllWomenAreLustful enthusiastically]]) asked Johnny if Reed can stretch ''other'' parts of his body. Reed is clearly flustered.

* ScienceHero: A brilliant scientist turned superhero. His mind is usually more useful than his actual powers.
* TheSmartGuy: One of the smartest scientists in the world. Even Victor and Hager, who dislike Reed admit that about him.

* WorkingWithTheEx: In the first film, he has to work together with Sue after a bad break up. It quickly becomes apparent there's still a lot of UnresolvedSexualTension in their interactions.

* AdaptationalIntelligence: Sue is a genetics researcher in the movie something she isn't in the comics. However, this sort of falls in InformedAbility as stated below.
* AdaptationalWimp: Sue is the most powerful member of the Fantastic Four in the comics. While not necessarily useless in the movies she isn't the powerhouse her comic counterpart is.

* DeadlyForceField: She can use her force fields as blasts and threatens to create a force field ''inside'' Victor's body and expanding it until he ''explodes''.

* HotScientist: Very attractive scientist that leads Von Doom Industries's Department of Genetic Research.
* {{Invisibility}}: The powers she gained allow her to turn invisible. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on any clothes except her uniform, so she's forced to become an InvisibleStreaker a couple of times in order to sneak around.
* InformedAbility: Sue is a genetic researcher in the films but doesn't really display this knowledge and most of the intellectual heavy lifting is done by Reed. In the second movie she claims she can create a force field inside a person's body and expand it until they explode but never does this.
* MsFanservice: She's a gorgeous woman and her skintight suit leaves very little to the imagination. In the first movie the InvisibleStreaker nature of her powers is played for {{Fanservice}} when it conveniently fades at the worst possible time, leaving her in her [[LingerieScene underwear]]. In the sequel, when Susan accidentally swaps powers with the Johnny, [[WreathedInFlames she immediately lights up in flames]], [[ClothingDamage burning off her non-fireproof clothes]], leaving her in the buff on a [[NakedPeopleTrappedOutside crowded street filled with cameras.]] Creator/JessicaAlba even reports that her death scene in the second movie was reshot with the direction to ''die sexier''.
* PsychicNosebleed: She gets a nosebleed when she exerts the use of her powers.
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: She's not happy about how often she gets ends up accidentally exposing herself. Be it via InvisibleStreaker shenanigans, [[ShowerOfAwkward Reed walking on her showering]] or her [[ClothingDamage clothes being incinarated]]. She always has a NakedFreakOut whenever it happens.

The younger brother of Susan. A thrill-seeking, girl-of-the-week former astronaut with a love for extreme sports and attention. He can raise the temperature of his body to the point of ignition and also has the ability to fly.

* AllYourPowersCombined: Johnny becomes able to absorb the other's powers in ''Rise of the Silver Surfer'' due to exposure from his encounter with the Silver Surfer. After being a screw up due to his unstable form for most of the movie he uses it to his advantage at the end during the final battle against Doom.

* TheCasanova: A shameless playboy that flirts with girls constantly.
* CatchPhrase: "Flame On!" whenever he activates his powers. He also uses Ben's catchphrase during his final fight with Doom.
* ChekhovsSkill: Johnny going "Supernova" is forbidden by Reed on the grounds of being dangerous, but is later used at the end of the first movie to defeat Doom.
* ClothingDamage: Johnny clothes are incinerated when he [[WreathedInFlames activates his powers.]] The first time it happens while he's skiing in the mountains he crashes into the snow creating an impromptu jacuzzi. In the sequel when Silver Surfer crashes the wedding, he complains about having to [[DoomedNewClothes ruin his tuxedo]] before flaming on and giving chase. He was wearing his uniform beneath the tux, though.
* FlyingFirepower: He can use his fire powers to fly.
* TheHedonist: If there's one thing Johnny clearly wants, it's having good a time.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Brash and mostly full of himself, but he's heart is in the right place.
* LetsGetDangerous: In the second movie, he absorbs the powers of the rest of his teammates and curb stomps a Silver Surfer-powered Doom.

* PersonOfMassDestruction: His flames can [[PowerOfTheSun reach the temperature of the sun]], and in the process risk dooming all of life on the planet due to the likelihood of him [[SetTheWorldOnFire causing Earth’s atmosphere to ignite.]]
* SadClown: In ''Rise'' he lets on that he plays up his alpha male, “girl-of-the-week” personality but it’s left him hollow and yearning for genuine relationships, which he is forced to confront when looking at how well Alicia and Ben get along.

* WreathedInFlames: His entire body becomes consumed with flames when he activates his powers.
