Changed to Future Legion since that's villain's true identity as he completely took over Future Rogue's body.

**

Future Legion also took Future Dante's powers as his own. Confirmed by Future Legion.

* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Instead of just being Rouge from the future he is actually a collective conscience of all the demons Rouge had slayed and consumed named Legion, and would take over his body after being consumed with vengeance against the person who killed Frosch and Yukino.
* AdaptationalBadass: He took out his timeline's Dante. Granted, Legion itself admitted it wasn't an easy fight, but he still killed his Dante and took the Rebellion. And he also has Ice Devil Slayer magic, taking it from the person that killed Frosch and Yukino in his timeline.

I have put Vergil in "Antagonists" folder since he's no longer member of Sabertooth and he's one of main antagonists in the story. Sorry in advance if I made the mistake.

The legendary Black Wizard Zeref is considered by most people as the strongest and most evil wizard that ever alive, but he is still alive and is not what you might expect.

The legendary Black Wizard Zeref is considered by most people as AntiVillain-slash-AntiHero son of an AscendedDemon named Sparda and a human named Eva, and twin brother of Dante. While Dante became a hotheaded but selfless AntiHero after demons killed their mother, Vergil grew to be a cool and collected AntiVillain out for his own gain. During the strongest and most evil wizard that ever alive, but seven-year time skip, he is still alive and is not what you might expect.joined the Sabertooth guild.

Added DiffLines:

* TheAce: He's established as this for Sabertooth in the time skip. Erza considers Vergil to be Fairy Tail's biggest obstacle in the Grand Magic Game, which puts him ahead of people like Lucia and Jura.
* AndThenWhat: In "Let's Welcome Chaos", Natsu angrily tells him this even when he becomes the King of Hell, what good is all the power if he's gonna sit on an oversized throne as he finds it quite boring. Vergil didn't have an answer at the time. spoiler:By Devil's Retribution he does. After killing Mundus and taking his throne, Vergil will use the position to quell any chaos since most demons would respect the Son of Sparda who killed a fallen god.
* ArcVillain: He is the main villain in his namesake arc, where he kidnaps and beats Fairy Tail members to ensure they don't intervene in his fight with Dante.
** He later became the BigBadEnsemble in Devil Hand Arc alongside Arkham.
**
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To his brother Dante in terms of skill. He discovered his Devil Trigger much sooner and shows greater mastery over it. What's more, Dante has yet to beat him in a one-on-one duel, usually requiring aid from Natsu.
** He is also this towards Fairy Tail's most elite members, to the point that Natsu holds a specific fear towards him. Even S-Class Wizards like Erza and Mira have been defeated by him, with Vergil's Devil Trigger outmatching Mira's Satan Soul.
** Though he has yet to encounter Laxus, Freed notes from his fight with Vergil that his power surpasses that of Laxus'.
** He's revealed to be this toward all of Crime Sorciére, which includes the likes of Jellal, Ultear, and Sheeree, forcing them to retreat when facing them once.
** He's practically this for all of Sabertooth, being their most powerful member likely including the Guild Master.
** However, there are a few above him when it comes to power.
*** Makarov, a Wizard Saint and Fairy Tail's guild master, intimidated Vergil with just a glare and a magic pulse strong enough to make him stumble back. Vergil even notes that at full power he couldn't beat Makarov (for now).
*** Gildarts. When he unleashes his full power on Tenrou Island, Natsu notices he might be even stronger than Vergil.
*** Master Hades. Dante finds that not only is he all-powerful and knows how to use it but notes that if Hades could defeat even Makarov, then even Vergil wouldn't be able to scratch him.
*** Acnologia, as the most powerful being in all of Earthland , naturally surpasses Vergil as well. Vergil himself admits even post-TimeSkip that he can't beat Acnologia at his current level.
* ArchEnemy: Vergil is already this to Dante but he later became this to Natsu. Considering that Vergil is responsible for his TraumaButton for utterly defeating him and giving him a scar, that's to be expected.
* BattleAura: His demonic power is dark blue in color.
* BigBrotherInstinct: WordOfGod states at the end of Fangs Bared that Vergil would have been the first to come to Lucy's aid when Minerva continued assaulting her after the Naval Battle, but was beaten to the punch by Dante and Natsu, showing that despite being on opposite sides and seemingly not caring on the surface, Vergil does care for his cousin.
* BloodKnight: Despite his stoicism, greatly enjoys a good fight, sincerely complimenting any opponent that manages to push him.
* BreakThemByTalking: He is an expert in this and since Fairy Tail got some DarkAndTroubledPast, that's gonna be ugly.
** Satan Soul vs Devil Trigger, he uses her younger sister's apparent death that's her fault for it which leaves Mira completely enraged by the guilt, with Elfman also enraged that he used Lisanna to win a fight.
** Demon vs Spirits, with Lucy about her father and what happened in the Phantom Lord arc, she thought he is trying to make her feel guilty about it, but instead, he knows that's not her fault but why question her to not kill him and while she is horrified, but what really seals it that's she is weak just as her mother that died young, which differently drives the dagger in her heart.
** Devil Prince vs Fairy Queen, even Erza Scarlet got it from Tower of Heaven with Jellal the death of her closest friends Rob and Simon even got her, but she tries to get over with that and telling him he is right about that, but that's motivated her to press on.
** Epic Clash: Natsu vs Vergil, he tries this against Natsu several times that his fire can't melt a marshmallow and why he cares about Igneel since he abandoned him.
** Rise! Temen-ni-gru!, even Ultear of Grimoire Heart got it when he provoked about her mother Ur abandoning her and took two boys, Gray and Lyon, while she got Meredy, she got enraged, using her Arc of Time in an attempt to rust the Yamato, but to no avail, because the Yamato is a Devil Arm that's immune of time and captures her and use her Arc of Time to complete the ritual to unleash Temen-ni-gru, with Leviatha/Sheeree's assistance by speeding up the time around the seal.
* TheChessmaster: Its revealed in [[spoiler: The Grand Magic Games arc that Vergil is the true mastermind behind the Eclipse plan. Working with Future Rogue, Vergil has successfully played Sabertooth, the Magic Council, the Fiore government, and Fairy Tail all to accomplish his goal of taking down Acnologia and Mundus. What's more no one not even Fairy Tail (who have good reason to be wary of Vergil) suspected him until he revealed himself. Its clear he inherited his father's intelligence along with his sword.]]
* CurbStompBattle: Most of Vergil's fights with Fairy Tail is considered this. Even the Action Girl S-Class Mirajane and Erza Scarlet couldn't defeat him. Even Natsu with Gray and Gajeel are completely overwhelmed by him. It took the combined Super Modes of Devil Trigger Dante and Dragon Force Natsu to defeat him for the first and so far only time.
** In Towards the Future, he easily defeats a Lightning Cerberus (with it's own element no less) in a display of how strong he's become in the last seven years.
** Old Friends reveals that he delivered one to all of Crime Sorciére during the TimeSkip, forcing them to retreat.
* DarkIsEvil: Like his twin Dante, he is half-demon. Unlike Dante, he is incredibly cold and in his Devil Trigger, he's very powerful and intimidating. Zigzagged since he is an NobleDemon, and after the Timeskip is the TokenGoodTeammate compared to rest of Sabertooth.
* DeathGlare: Delivers one hell of a rage-filled look at Minerva after she beat Lucy to near-death and attempted to cheap-shot Natsu in Fangs Bared, causing her SmugSnake persona to quickly fall apart.
* DidntSeeThatComing:
** During his first Devil Trigger to Devil Trigger fight with Dante, both witness Natsu using demon fire to power up. Vergil assumes 'the fool' is going to die, but not only does Natsu survive, but he also goes into Dragon Force. This was not only a turning point in the fight itself but was the first time in the story that Vergil was genuinely caught off guard.
** In Devil Hand arc when he went to kidnap Lisanna to unleash Temen-ni-gru, only to be surprised that she gained [[spoiler:a Dragon Soul Take Over]]. Seeing this he realizes using her blood for the ritual might destroy to tower]].
** [[spoiler:PlayedForLaughs. Even he thought King Toma's instructions were simple enough for Arcadios to realize that king wants Bacchus to fight Erza but is just as surprised as everyone else that the man chose Elfman instead, including letting out a BigWhat.]]
* DoubleWeapon: Vergil has gained a new Devil Arm since his last encounter with Fairy Tail: a lightning-generating double-bladed spear named Zeus. It was originally a broadsword named Alastor but evolves when Vergil kills a lightning Cerberus with it and absorbs its energy.
* TheDreaded: Is this to ALL of Fairy Tail given how he's easily stronger than Dante.
** After facing him once and being forced to fall back, Crime Sorciére is also cautious about him.
** Even Jiemma, the master of Vergil's own guild, backs down first when the two get into a confrontation, implying he may have some fear of him as well. In fact, the members of Sabertooth in general are shown to be afraid of Vergil and quickly do what he says when he gets serious.
* EveryoneHasStandards: While Vergil comes off as TheUnfettered in his pursuit of greater power, he does have personal lines he won't cross.
** For example, .
** He also is disgusted with Jiemma trying to humiliate Yukino and stops it.
** As seen when Minerva takes Happy hostage to force Dante's cooperation, he does not approve of using the weak as shields, citing it as a sign of weakness.
* EvilVirtues: Is a NobleDemon, and has many more positive traits compared to the rest of Fairy Tail's rogues gallery.
** Ambitions. Having very lofty goals to strive towards. Though this veers very close to AmbitionIsEvil.
** Determination. Rivalling his brother Dante and Fairy Tail itself in this regard. Compared to their regular enemies that have a VillainousBreakdown upon being defeated, and/or learn to avoid making an enemy of them, Vergil has been beaten no less than three times, and his response to each is to get up, make his exit, and ensure he trains for the next encounter.
** Honesty. Vergil is an honorable warrior and never uses lies or trickery to win or achieve his goals.
** Honor. Vergil greatly values honor and always fights in a direct and open manner, albeit to prove his superior strength and skill. As such, he is disgusted by Ivan and Raven Tail in the Grand Magic Games for blatantly cheating and robbing of their well earned victory. .
** Respect. Although it takes a lot to earn it, Vergil is not above giving credit to anyone he feels deserves it, being rather polite to the likes of Erza and Mirajane upon meeting them. And while it took a while, he eventually to gained begrudging respect for Fairy Tail and their Determinator conviction in their beliefs, despite previously falling into UnderestimatingBadassery. Notably, this puts him at odds with the rest of Sabertooth, who seem determined to belittle everyone they come across.
* Foil: Has several ones as the story progresses.
** Just like canon, his brother Dante, being the twin Sons of Sparda with MysticalWhiteHair, powerful swords they inherited with which they have achieved masterful skill on top of their general power netting them ace status among their respective guilds. But while Dante is playful, flippant, and generally friendly to others, believing HumansAreSpecial, Vergil is cold, calculative, and considers them beneath him. Whereas Dante has long wished for a family and a place to call home and grows more cheerful after finding it in Fairy Tail , Vergil does his best to crush any semblance of human emotion he has, denying any lingering love for his family, living or otherwise, , and outright says he views Sabertooth as a means to an end, nothing more. Even their appearances and fighting styles contrast, with Dante sporting a bright red coat, wields BFS Rebellion and uses his arsenal in creative combinations, Vergil is prominently associated with blue, has Yamato as his signature weapon, and takes the time to polish his skill with each individual weapon in his arsenal.
** Becomes this towards Natsu as the story progresses, being the children of powerful nonhuman beings that they inherited great power from and enjoy a fight with a worthy opponent, albeit Vergil is more subdued about this than Natsu. However, where Natsu is a HotBlooded and idealistic IdiotHero that fights for his friends and family and believes in ThePowerOfFriendship, Vergil is a cold, logical AntiVillain that derides the idea of bonds and believes power is all that truly matters. Natsu greatly admired Igneel and tries to live up to his example to this day, while Vergil acknowledges Sparda's power, but cares little about his beliefs and shows no remorse for undoing his accomplishments. Natsu fights with hand-to-hand while mixing in his Fire Magic whereas Vergil prominently uses Yamato (and other weapons he has on hand) and even his demonic powers mainly manifest Summoned Swords or enhance his existing weapons.
** To Erza, being some of the best examples of master sword fighters (and weapon fighters in general) in the story, having deeply traumatic childhoods and maintain a stoic demeanour. However, Erza favours using an arsenals worth of weapons and armours, believes HumansAreSpecial, and is quite warm to her friends underneath her stern demeanour whereas Vergil masters a handful of weapons, considers humans to be beneath consideration and ruthlessly suppresses any human emotion he feels. While both were isolated from all the people they knew early on, Erza managed to find a home in Fairy Tail and grew to love the people there like family, while Vergil remained isolated and grew into the cold man in the present. And like with Dante, their colour schemes contrast with red and blue.
** To Mirajane, being orphans and the eldest sibling with white hair that wields demonic power. But whereas Mirajane is one of the sweetest characters in Fairy Tail in spite of the dark power she wields, loves and is loved greatly by her siblings and the other guild members, Vergil is every bit as cold as you'd expect from someone wielding demonic powers, has a very hostile relationship with his brother (which he typically initiates), and is despised by most of Fairy Tail for his attacks on them.
* ForceAndFinesse:
** He is the finesse to Dante's force. Vergil prefers to fight with the Yamato using great speed and precise slicing attacks, along with energy swords for range, while the hotheaded Dante prefers to fight using the BFS Rebellion for powerful straight forward attacks alongside the loud and flashy Ebony and Ivory firearms for ranged combat. Granted, both of them are Sons of Sparda with great physical prowess on top of being well trained.
** Is also the finesse to Natsu's force. Natsu is a HotBlooded Dragon Slayer that mainly fights with his fists alongside his Fire Magic to cause great destruction, whereas the coolheaded Vergil fights with Yamato for lighting quick and precise slicing attacks.
* TheForceIsStrongWithThisOne: When Freed fought him, he got a taste of his power and find it on the same level as Laxus, or even stronger, much to the shock of both Bickslow and Evergreen, but Levy and Cana too.
* GeniusBruiser: Not only did Vergil defeat many Fairy Tail members head-on with his demonic powers, but also of his tactical skills, having quickly managed to determine an impressively detailed record of each of their magics and respective traumatic backstories. Makarov even compliments him for being as smart as he is strong.
* GracefulLoser: Whenever Vergil loses a fight he takes it in stride, accepting the inevitability of defeat and using it as motivation to grow stronger.
* HealingFactor: Has one at least as strong as his brothers, shrugging off devastating attacks with little impact.
* HeelFaceTurn: ingWithATropeed with. Post-time skip he has joined a proper guild, implying he has ceased any criminal activities, however, the guild he joined is Sabertooth.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Develops into this after the timeskip, albeit the heart of gold is very well hidden. He maintains his apathetic might makes right attitude for the most part, but his PetTheDog moments have become much more frequent, on top of being more willing to dole out compliments to others, internally and externally. He even shares a few moments of friendliness with his brother and .
* KarmaHoudini: Despite being defeated by Dante and Natsu in his debut arc, he managed to get away and return to face them again in the Devil Hand arc, which is usually rare for an enemy of Fairy Tail since they either got befriended or like most guilds are disbanded like Phantom Lord, Oración Seis and Grimoire Heart, but Vergil yet again is able to escape again (but Makarov allowed it), and he joined in the official guild eventually, Sabertooth.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: His signature weapon, Yamato, is a demonic sword given to him by his father.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Vergil might be cocky ArrogantKungFuGuy SmugSuper that outmatch even the most Elite Fairy Tail members, he isn't foolish enough to fight Makarov, a Wizard Saint, even with full power he might not win against him (for now, that is) when he warned the Son of Sparda with to ever harm his children again.
* LightDarknessJuxtaposition: Is the dark to [[spoiler:his cousin Lucy's]] light. He is a classic example of DarkIsEvil due to his dark color scheme and being half-demon, while is a textbook case of LightIsGood, dressing in bright colours and using [[spoiler:Celestial Spirit Magic]].
* MagicKnight: Among the best fighters in this story, being a Son of Sparda with incredible fighting prowess with his iaido/iaijutsu fighting style. The 'magic' comes from using Yamato along with his other Devil Arms and demonic powers, which combine to make him an almost unbeatable opponent.
* MasterSwordsman: Vergil's skill with a sword is superior to even Dante and Erza's.
* TheMole: [[spoiler:As it turns out, Vergil may have joined Sabertooth, but he serves as a spy for the Magic Council. Whether or not he is truly loyal to them is unclear. Origins shows that may not be the case, as it's revealed that he's spying on the Magic Council for King Toma, who's become increasingly worried over the Council's aggressive actions.]]
* MythicalMotifs: Demons and devils just like his brother due to his heritage and Devil Trigger.
* NobleDemon: Vergil has a certain code of honor. If he gives his word to an agreement, he'll hold his end to it. For example, when requests that once his part is complete, Vergil will kill him, the human-demon hybrid understands his situation completely and promises it with no strings attached. He also straightforwardly faces opponents, with the main reason he targeted Fairy Tail members being that he simply wanted a 1v1 fight with Dante without interruptions. Best seen by his disdain for Minerva, who he admonishes for claiming to be 'strong' despite relying on hostages and dirty tactics to win her fights.
* NotSoInvincibleAfterAll: [[spoiler:After spending so long appearing as an invincible force of nature to any single fighter throughout the story, Vergil finally faces an undisputed one-on-one defeat when he falls to Dante on the fourth day of the Grand Magic Games, showing everyone that he can be beaten. Minerva even states that Vergil isn't invincible after witnessing this herself.]]
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: During the TimeSkip he encountered all of Crime Sorciére, fighting them all to the point that they were forced to retreat once he brought out his Devil Trigger.
* OnlySaneMan: Compared to the other members of Sabertooth, especially Sting, Vergil is the only one that does not dismiss Fairy Tail as a threat, acknowledging the strength the various members possess, and watching any match with Fairy Tail in the Grand Magic Games with interest to see how much stronger they have become since his last battle with them. He's fully aware of this and is sick of Sabertooth's members never listening to him, even referring to himself as their babysitter.
* PetTheDog: Vergil might be a prominent antagonist, but his NobleDemon traits do show once in a while.
** He promised Adrian/Beelzebub to end his suffering if he helps his goals to unlock Temen-ni-gru. When both Mira and Elfman confront him and bring that up he explains his reasons and the inability to help but also allowed Elfman to punch him for still bringing a boy to the Dark Guild.
** His anger towards Raven Tail for having to cheat to win against Lucy.
** He is the only one to defend Yukino from Jiemma from further humiliation when she is kicked out of the guild. Before she leaves, he tells her she was a fine addition to Sabertooth, despite what Jiemma says.
* Reconstruction: Of TheSocialDarwinist, in contrast to his guildmates. Vergil has always maintained that MightMakesRight, and views Fairy Tail's emphasis on ThePowerOfFriendship as nonsense. However, following the timeskip he displays more nuance in what he considers 'strength' and his overall philosophy, acknowledging that strength of will can bring someone further than power alone, however it is derived, even citing it as the main difference between Natsu and Sting. He notes that despite losing her match, Yukino being expelled from Sabertooth is a waste, pointing out that she had the potential and will to improve, both of which are admirable qualities, and that strength isn't confined to what someone can do in the present. Finally, despite fundamentally disagreeing with his brother and Fairy Tail, he respects both their abilities and drive, and is willing to be cordial as a result, making him significantly easier to get along with than the rest of Sabertooth.
* RecurringElement: He's a complex case of fusing two of [=Iron117Prime=]'s common character archetypes. When he's introduced, most of the dialogue that's directed towards him is more in line with the CrossoverVillainInChief of that story (i.e. YouMonster). Later on in the story, most of his better traits manifest, shifting towards NobleDemon status. [[spoiler:Despite being far less of a villainous person, he still gets the chance to off a major Fairy Tail villain: Jiemma. It's the closest thing he does that's the equivalent of the CrossoverVillainInChief axing the other faction, though it's more because the master was an AssholeVictim rather than proving that he's a far crueler antagonist]].
* RedBaron:
* RelatedInTheAdaptation: spoiler:Dante learns in Edolas that Lucy's counterpart is the niece of his mother's counterpart, leading him to wonder if the same is true back home. Sure enough, Capricorn reveals that his mother, Eva, was the older sister of Layla, Lucy's mother; therefore, Dante and Vergil are cousins with Lucy.
* SmugSuper:
** Just like Dante he is just as cocky, however, he is even more so as he likes calling himself superior and those lesser than him (most members of Fairy Tail) not on his level. Considering how skilled he is, he's able to back it up most of the time.
** Averted when it comes to the subject of Acnologia, as when Sting mocks Natsu over being unable to stand up to the dragon at Tenrou Island, Vergil shuts him down and admits even he as he is now (who overpowered all of Crime Sorciére once he got serious) would lose to the dragon.
* StrongAndSkilled: Is among the best fighters in the story, standing above even Dante in terms of power and skill with weapons, especially his swordsmanship. His debut arc has him single-handedly fight his way through most of Fairy Tail, inflicting crushing defeats on the likes of Erza and Mirajane. [[spoiler:During the timeskip, his skills proved enough to match all five members of Crime Sorciere by himself, in what they describe as an uphill battle for them. The moment he used Devil Trigger the fight became so one-sided Crime Sorciere (all of whom are major winners of the SuperpowerLottery) were forced to retreat.]]
* SuperMode: Was the first character to unlock his Devil Trigger.
* StarterVillain: The first new antagonist of the story's very first major arc.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Hates his guild master Jiemma and has no respect for him and doesn't make any attempt to hide it. While his guildmates respect his abilities they don't like him on a personal level. He's even admitted that he has no interest in making friends, and sees joining Sabertooth as a means to an end. [[spoiler:He eventually beheads Jiemma to prevent him from murdering Sting. Later on, he admits that Yukino was the only one with potential, declaring the rest of the guild as idiotic fools that let themselves grow stagnant, with their own ambitions making things more complicated. The minute he no longer needs Sabertooth anymore he dumps them making it clear he's through with the guild.]]
* TokenGoodTeammate: Believe it or not, fits this the best amongst Sabertooth, being the only member who doesn't constantly lord their superiority over other guilds (especially Fairy Tail), and is even annoyed by his teammates (especially Sting) doing so. He's also the only one who stands up for Yukino when she is expelled from the Guild.
* TookALevelInBadass: Vergil was always a badass but during the TimeSkip, he grows so powerful that he was able to drive off all of Crime Sorciére by himself once he went Devil Trigger. Keep in mind that Crime Sorciére has two members who can use Lost Magics, another can copy any form of magic including Lost Ones, and Jellal one of the most powerful mages in the story and Vergil forced them all to flee. Sorano makes it clear that to even stand a chance against him Dante and the others need to have their second Origins unlocked. He shows how far he's come during the fight on Day 4 of the Grand Magic Games, including new personal Devil Arms Zeus, Arbiter, Ifrit, and Mirage Edge (notably for being formed from his own demonic power alone), as well as an evolution to his Devil Trigger.
* TookALevelInKindness: Following the TimeSkip Vergil is shown to be much more reasonable and far less malevolent, in addition to losing much of his SmugSuper tendencies. He's also much more willing to dole out compliments in his internal narration, his philosophy having evolved to acknowledge a persons determination and potential to grow stronger, rather than simply their current strength. He's still not exactly nice however shown by his utter dismissal of Lucy and her father passing away.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: During the first story, Vergil is extremely confident in his abilities during his battles with Dante and Fairy Tail, easily defeating many of them in combat. However, this comes back to bite him as the various members' determination, stubbornness, and teamwork end up putting him on the ropes. Come Devil's Retribution this seems to have been slowly averted. When Sting boasts that he can beat Natsu, Vergil warns him not to underestimate the Salamander, noting that for all his foolishness, he is the most powerful of the first-generation Dragon Slayers.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: A flashback showed him willing to pass the time playing with Dante and happily reading a book full of poetry.
* VillainHasAPoint: He might be a villain that's more than willing to kill Dante and those who stand in his way, but he does make some valid points to back up his worldview:
** More Fairies Fall, when he faced the Thunder Legion, Freed asked him why is he against Dante, his own flesh and blood. Vergil quickly points out that they don't have room the talk since they betrayed their guild before during the Battle of Fairy Tail event, and didn't even share in their leader's punishment.
** Demon vs Spirits, during Lucy's first 'fight' with him, she grows increasingly angry as he cuts down her spirits without mercy. He points out that she's the one sending them all against a clearly superior opponent and if she truly wants to prevent them from getting hurt, she should grow stronger.
** Brothers Rivals Evermore!, he still believes that power is all that matters and that bonds and friendship are of no help if you are weak. Even after Happy gives him a speech about Vergil unleashing the tower and undoing the hard work of both his father and the dragons, saying that Fairy Tail will never lose to him, Vergil manages to prove him wrong, defeating Dante despite his brother fighting for those same friends and bonds. This is further reinforced by Happy's failed attempt to take back the Perfect Amulet, as he is no match against Vergil, proving his point that ThePowerOfFriendship cannot make up for such a gap in strength and skill.
** A Bittersweet Aftermath, even Makarov admits that Vergil is somewhat correct about the fact that power and might control everything and that's important to be strong to get to live. However, he points out that power isn't everything and you don't need to go on a dark path to obtain it.
* VillainRespect:
** In A Bittersweet Aftermath, after he declines Makarov's offer to join Fairy Tail due to having bad blood between many members, not just Dante, he at least acknowledges the strength they have and that he underestimated many of them and got his respect.
** This continues past the time-skip, where he is unsurprised to hear they survived Acnologia, and scolds Sting for assuming they are weak.
** Just before the Pandemonium Royale event, he mentally name-drops Erza and Natsu as among the few aside from Dante who can push him.
**
** [[spoiler:He respects them enough to request their aid, as he and Future Rogue prepare for war with Acnologia and the Underworld, amassing a dragon army to overthrow Mundus. He remarks that he can be new ruler of Underworld and Fairy Tail to be legendary heroes in Earthland, considering them the best guild for the job... Fairy Tail decline. Vehemently.]]
* WeaponBasedCharacterization: His main Devil Arm is the Yamato, which he use it with great skill and techniques. Fitting for such a stoic and (outwardly) tranquil man who favors precision.
* WeCanRuleTogether: [[spoiler:In Mastermind, he reveals he wants form an alliance with his brother and Fairy Tail to defeat Acnologia, the Demon Kings, and even Mundus. Despite making some reasonable points, Determinator Fairy Tail refuse to submit or stand aside for anyone]].
* WouldHurtAChild:
** He has no problem kidnapping Wendy. When Wendy uses Sky Dragon Roar on him she missed and he slaps her, finding her a nuisance now as he tried to slash her, but Natsu TookTheBullet for her.
** She used her attack on Vergil again in the Temen-ni-gru during the Devil Hand arc but managed to him this time. Vergil tried to slash her again but this time Ezra got in the way with swords.
* WouldHitAGirl: Gender doesn't matter to Vergil, so long as they're in his way he'll knock them around. Though given the sheer amount of female badasses in the cast, this is quite justified.
