Slade Wilson must have had a bad childhood as he lied about his age to join the military just to get away from his father. After proving himself on the battlefield in the Vietnam War, Slade was enrolled in officer training, where he excelled. There he met Adeline Kane. Adeline was amazed at how skilled Slade was at adapting to modern conventions of warfare and the two fell in love. But Slade’s first love was still the military.\\

Around the time that Adeline discovered she was pregnant, Slade was selected to be a test subject for an experiment designed to create Metahuman supersoldiers. This left him with enhanced physical and mental abilities as well as a healing factor. Further, because of this, Slade was denied reassignment and discharged from service. His severance consisted of pills that were meant to suppress his new metahuman abilities.

* AbusiveParents: Slade is not the most loving father. He tortured and experimented his daughter Rose as putting a cybernetic eye to spy of the Titans before she rip off that eye.
* AntiVillain: Slade is a mercenary but he does have something of a fairly strong moral code

Later on, Deathstroke seemed to have put his attention on the Titans as he was responsible for the apparent death of Terra and later kidnapped Rose Wilson, beating the living snot out of every member of team (including both Wonder Girl and Supergirl) in the process, by using his telepathic link with Rose to secretly learn all of their weaknesses. Naturally, this made him one of the Titans' biggest enemies and that grudge even carried over into later generations of the team.

* HiredGun: As a member of the League of Assassins' elite, Deathstroke is free to pursue side contracts so long as he is available when called upon by Ra's al Ghul or his daughters.
* ManipulativeBastard: He's not quite as good at this as some other villains. Most of his targets tend to be damaged teenagers a generation or two younger than him, hardly the most challenging targets. When his powers of persuasion aren't enough to get them to work for him, he's not above using blackmail, death threats, mind controlling drugs, and PsychoSerum to force them to join him.
* OldSoldier: He joined the Army in the fifties and fought in Vietnam. Just now, though, he is a soldier of fortune.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's at least in his seventies, but thanks to his meta-gene, he remains in his prime.
* PsychoSerum: The formula used in the military experiment left him a crippled wreck for months or years, with brief periods of increased strength and intelligence.
* RedBaron: The Terminator.
* SuperSoldier: When in the army he took part in an experiment designed to create meta-human supersoldiers. He's slightly above maximum human physical ability and has a healing factor with inconsistent strength.
* TheStrategist: Slade is the greatest strategist and tactician. Always calculating his opponents moves before hand; he has been compared to Batman in terms of tactical methods. Even against metahumans he has proven more than a match for them all at once with time to prepare.
* UndyingLoyalty: Towards Talia. However Slade would later realized that the League, under Talia's leadership, was becoming increasingly like the HIVE. Once she and El Penitente began to experiment his son Joey by poison him with an herbal concoction to feign [=MacGregor=]'s Syndrome in order to have Slade agree to place Joey in cryogenic stasis and later a successful field test joining astral form to the brainwashed Shelly Gaynor, Slade demanded that Talia return his son. When Talia refused to surrender Joey, Slade broke ties with Talia.
