** Tien and Chiaotzu's relationship goes from focusing on the HeterosexualLifePartners aspect of it (thus Yamcha's snide comments of "Gay") to establishing Tien as more of a guardian figure to Chiaotzu starting from late season 2. Ultimately this EarlyInstallmentWeirdness is given a nod to when Yamcha and Tien part ways, this time done in a much friendly manner.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Played straight as one of the weakest Z fighters who keeps getting put up against increasingly powerful enemies and being hopelessly outclassed alongside the rest of the 'baseline' humans.
** Also played straight in that a weak Z fighter is still so far above an average human in speed, strength and reaction times that when Yamcha becomes a baseball player, all the other players were hopelessly outclassed. To the point of making the games boring to watch!

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Tien is reminded that the human characters CantCatchUp to all, and despite that risks his life thanks to his wounded pride. It ends nearly getting him killed.

* InconsistentSpelling: Officially, he's known as Krillin (the English prounciation/spelling, provided by Funimation), though in the scripts, he's written as Kuririn (an approximation of the Japanese pronunciation, provided by the English manga and Funimation's subtitles). Kaiser initially did this as a gag and intended on stopping, but Lanipator told him to keep spelling Krillin as Kuririn whenever he's speaking, since it made it easier to Ctrl+F and search for Krillin's lines without also highlighting every time he was mentioned in dialogue.

* AdaptationExplanationExtrication: Astute viewers of the series may notice that Gohan's hesitation to fight Cell doesn't really line up with the rest of the series, where he's not once shown actual aversion to fighting or killing(for example his failure to attack Nappa is due to being conditioned to dodge when he hears Piccolo yell the word, not due to being actually scared to death.) This is because Gohan in canon was an AllLovingHero who only sought to fight to protect people, and was shown to enjoy nature and didn't have the vicious fighter spirit necessary.
* AdaotationalBadass: For a given value of "badass", abridged Gohan has no real issue with fighting in the abridged series

* AdaptationalJerkass: His reasoning for holding back against Cell isn't due to him being afraid of letting go, but instead he's simply holding onto his pacifist nature far too tightly than his canon counterpart would. 16 calls him out on this, saying there's no moral high ground to be had when Cell is killing everyone and thinking he's had it worse than them.
* AdaptationalWimp:
** Gohan's feats in this show are ultimately given less attention and value than in canon. He's also shown to be much less durable, being easily taken down for the count during a simple spar with Goku and Piccolo while he ended up impressing the two with his tenacity in canon. Much less focus is on his hidden power here too, as on the Namek Saga both Vegeta and Krillin put some faith in his performance, here, it's treated as nothing particularly notable.
** While canon Gohan was always ready to fight any enemies that threatened his friends, his family, or the Earth and was eager to train on many occasions with his reservations being a problem of controlling his anger and drawing out his hidden power. This Gohan has much more reluctance towards the idea of violence and killing in general, preferring to avoid it all together if it can be helped, this changes the context from 16 having to help Gohan get over his own fears and insecurities to having to tell Gohan to get over the counterproductive view he has towards their situation.

** While Trunks becomes somewhat better trained during his time with Vegeta in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he still retains this status due to not realizing how useless the bulky Super Saiyan Grade 3 form is until Perfect Cell spells it out to him after he gives Trunks some pity hits. Perfect Cell notes quite correctly that Trunks lacks a lot of practical experience and proper training from an actual martial arts master, having only trained with Gohan and Vegeta (the former of whom didn't get the same amount of actual instruction time as his father, and Vegeta wasn't interested in teaching Trunks practical battle advice) and having only really only fought 17, 18 and Freeza up to this point, whereas the rest of the Z-Fighters had fought many, many more opponents over the years.

this is wrong actually. the original series has gohan's hate be very much a bad thing, as it is his sadism that allows cell to ultimately kill goku and trunks and threaten the planet- it's only when goku gives him much needed confidence that he wins. dbza follows that same pattern, the deconstruction is there in both series.

* Deconstruction: In the original series, Gohan was a deconstruction of the child warrior taking after his father: not only does he not like to fight and detest having to, but he also begins looking towards Piccolo as a father figure over Goku, even emulating his style of dress. TFS are noticeably more heavy-handed with this, exaggerating his idolization of Piccolo to him developing a complex over Goku's frequent absences and his reluctance to fight being outright verbally torn apart by Cell and 16 as self-pitying cowardice that helps no one. However, where they go above and beyond is with the resolution of it. In the original series, Gohan finally embracing his anger was a heroic, triumphant moment--in the Abridged series, it's made clear that Gohan, a sweet kid, being forced to sacrifice his principles and embrace ThePowerOfHate is not a good thing and is actually sad and terrifying in one.

* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: He's one of the few characters who genuinely likes and gets along with Vegeta, despite acknowledging his anger issues and past conflicts with him. In canon, Krillin hated Vegeta possibly even moreso than the other Z-Fighters, to the point of admitting to Vegeta point blank that he wouldn't care at all if Cell killed him, whereas in the same scene in Abridged, he's sincerely trying to get him to safety after his lopsided bout with Cell.

Moving to Present Trunks' section since it honestly makes more sense

* IncorruptiblePurePureness: His baby self at least. In Plan to Eradicate Christmas, Bulma engineers an antidote to the concentrated naughtiness from 's coal gas machines using baby Trunks' blood.
