->'''Played By:''' Creator/RyanReynolds

->''"I'm touching myself tonight."''

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, ex-Special Forces operative Wade Wilson agrees to a radical procedure to cure his disease with a superhuman HealingFactor. Unfortunately, though the procedure saves his life, it also causes the cancer to spread through his entire body and brain, leaving him horribly scarred and completely insane. Now Wade searches for the man responsible for his new condition to "express some rage" as the HeroicComedicSociopath mercenary, Deadpool.

For the original timeline's version of the character, see Characters/XMenFilmSeriesTeamX.
----
* AdaptationalDyeJob: Due to his condition making him bald it's easy to forget, but in the comics Wade's hair is blonde, while here he's a brunet.
* AdaptationSpeciesChange: In the comics Deadpool was a human with Wolverine's HealingFactor grafted on to him; here he's a mutant whose genes have been dormant most of his life.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: While he still won't be winning any beauty contests, Deadpool is shown to be much less scarred than his comic-book counterpart (although even that tend to vary between comics). Being portrayed by Ryan Reynolds also adds to this, though the dialogue still pokes fun at how scarred Wade is (Weasel comments "You look like an avocado had sex with an older, more disgusting avocado"), and Deadpool himself laments in a trailer how the process made him "un-fuckable".
* AdaptationalHeroism: A minor case. Deadpool is still definitely a HeroicComedicSociopath, but he also genuinely and honestly loves Vanessa, and his love for her is presented as his biggest redeeming quality. Prior to getting his powers, the movie goes to great lengths to show that [[NeverHurtAnInnocent he would never kill anyone who didn't deserve it]], and that he has a much stronger moral compass than the average mercenary. Case in point: chronologically the first thing he does onscreen is [[EstablishingCharacterMoment scare off a teenage stalker who was harassing a young girl]]. While Deadpool did love Vanessa in the comics, their relationship didn't work due to outside factors, and he always insisted that he was a violent sadist long before the Weapon X project got ahold of him.
* AffablyEvil: He has a rather cheerful, chatty disposition, regardless of the morally questionable horrors he regularly commits.
* AlliterativeName: Wade Wilson. He has the middle name "Winston" in the comics, but it's not mentioned here directly (he refers to himself as Wade W. Wilson during one scene). For AddedAlliterativeAppeal, he's played by [[Creator/RyanReynolds Ryan Rodney Reynolds]].
* AmusingInjuries: At one point he gets pissed at Colossus (moreso) and tries to attack him, breaking a hand each time. And a foot. Negasonic Teenage Warhead finds this hilarious.
* AntiHero: He cares about his friends and loved ones, but is also a murdering psychopath who kills others for fun and profit. He describes himself as a bad person who gets paid to beat up worse people.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny:
** Wade can't sit in the back of a cab for more than 30 seconds without going insane with boredom and breaking into the front to chat with the cab driver.
** Gets easily sidetracked in Australia Day promo talking about Creator/HughJackman, to the point he forgets what he was even doing and that he's wearing an Australian cork hat, which results in it startling him into thinking he was being attacked by "diddly Australian bees".
* AnythingThatMoves: WordOfGod has confirmed that this iteration of Deadpool, like the comics, is pansexual. [[spoiler:A cartoon version of him gets an increasingly massive erection as it talks about how hot the actors (male and female) in the film are.]]
* AsideGlance: Wouldn't be Wade Wilson without glancing at the camera! He does it at the start of the movie.
* BadassBoast: Used by Wade in his climatic battle with Francis, who due to his mutation can't feel pain.
-->'''Wade:''' I hope they blocked pain to your every last nerve,'' 'cause I'mma go looking!''
* BaldOfAwesome: Loses all of his hair once his healing factor kicks in and spreads his cancer throughout his whole body.
* BodyHorror: His mutation leaves his entire body disfigured.
* BreadEggsBreadedEggs: A very subtle example when Deadpool is counting bullets during the freeway battle:
-->'''Deadpool:''' Ten! ''[shoots]'' Shit (nine)! ''[shoots]'' Fuck (eight)! ''[shoots]'' Shit fuck!
* BringMyRedJacket: Wade's first Deadpool costume is a white hoodie with a headscarf and goggles to conceal his face, but after it gets drenched in blood, he finds that he likes the red on him and incorporates the colour into his later outfits, or at the least, he accepts the advice Blind Al gives him at the laundromat, as he is futilely trying to scrub the hoodie back to white.
-->'''Blind Al:''' Seltzer water and lemon juice for blood. Or wear red. Dumbass.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Crazy as he is, Deadpool is ''very good'' at what he does, as seen in several scenes where he rips through trained soldiers ''without'' getting hit even once.
* ButtMonkey: You'd better believe a good deal of humor is at his expense.
* {{Butterface}}: Describes himself as such following his mutation-induced disfiguring.
* CanadaEh: He's a Saskatchewan from Regina, the place that [[CrowningMomentOfFunny rhymes with fun]], and interrogates someone [[CanadianEqualsHockeyFan using a Zamboni]] at one point.
* CaptainSuperhero: [[DiscussedTrope Nope]].
-->'''Wade:''' "Captain Deadpool!" ...No, just "Deadpool."
* CasualDangerDialogue: While in an SUV tumbling down the freeway, Deadpool has this little gem:
-->'''Deadpool:''' Shhhhhhhhhhit, did I leave the stove on?
* CatchPhrase: "Maximum effort," when psyching himself up do to something big. Doubles as ArcWords.
* CelebrityParadox: Creator/RyanReynolds exists in this universe, as he appears on a magazine and Wade Wilson mentions him. Given the [[NoFourthWall nature of the film and the character]], this is to be expected. Wade doesn't have a high opinion of Mr. Reynolds acting.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Deadpool's defining character trait is that Wade Wilson is not only completely insane thanks to his cancer spreading into his brain, he's also the only character who's aware he's in a fictional work, much to the rest of the cast's confusion.
* CoatHatMask: His first attempt at a disguise, before he moves onto his spandex uniform.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Wade seems to be really into the idea of making the Recruiter hurt before he dies.
* TheCorrupter: Deadpool encourages taxi driver Dopinder to "hold on to love... tight... and never let go." This drives Dopinder to kidnap his romantic rival, at which point he plans to kill him and leave his body on his crush's doorstep. While Wade didn't say to do all that, he tells Dopinder he's proud of what he's done.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Before and after the mutation, he's a hardened soldier who can and does kick metric tons of ass, despite his goofy disposition.
* CursedWithAwesome: His powers end up horribly scarring him, but Deadpool gains a healing factor that surpasses Wolverine's in effectiveness, essentially making him immortal.
* DarkAndTroubledPast:
** This is implied when the recruiter mentions Wade's past as a Special Forces soldier. Wade mentions that he originally joined the military with a genuine intention to do good, but implies he grew disillusioned, which resulted in his dishonorable discharge.
** Also played for laughs, as one of the games Wade plays with Vanessa is [[MiseryPoker each of them jokingly trying to outdo each other in proving which one of them had the crappier childhood]].
* ADateWithRosiePalms: Frequently alluded to, [[spoiler:briefly seen during the FastForwardGag]], and does so offscreen with his smooth, tiny [[spoiler:regenerating hand]] to get Blind Al to go away and stop giving him life advice.
* DeadpanSnarker: He sheds the deadpan half only a bit post-mutation, but he's still swinging.
* DramaPreservingHandicap: His tendency to ''always'' forget his duffel bag filled with guns just makes things harder for him whenever he fights. He can still kick a lot of ass with limited ammunition, two swords, and [[CatchPhrase maximum effort]], but even a bit of extra ammo would make killing Ajax easier.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: He was a special ops soldier and then a mercenary before he became a superhero. The healing factor just ensures that he can always take more than he dishes out, and he can dish out an awful lot with his human abilities.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Tells the mooks they're [[PunchClockVillain only enemies due to being in Ajax's payroll]], and he's willing to spare them. They refuse, so a massacre ensues. Though he still lets his old friend Bob live.
** While revenge is his primary motivation for hunting down Ajax, Wade mentions to Weasel that he also wants to make sure no one else ends up being a victim of Ajax's horrific experiments.
* ExpressiveMask: A rare live action example, as the (CGI) eye holes of Deadpool's mask widen and narrow with his emotion. It's also possible to read his facial expressions through the fabric to a degree.
* FacialHorror: His scarred appearance is regularly played for laughs.[[note]]Amusingly, he's still ''not'' that [[HollywoodHomely bad looking]], especially compared to his comics counterpart. He honestly looks like a recovered burn victim.[[/note]]
-->'''Wade:''' Look at me.\\
'''Weasel:''' I...\\
'''Wade:''' No, look at it.\\
'''Weasel:''' No, I don't want to.\\
'''Wade:''' Exactly!
* FatalFlaw: Vanity. Wade was rather proud of his looks before Weapon X and his subsequent deformation is why he doesn't approach Vanessa after he escapes and why he takes [[spoiler:too long to warn her that Ajax might be after her, indirectly getting her kidnapped as a result]]. He refuses to believe that Vanessa or anyone else could love him because of his new face, pointedly ignoring how Weasel and Blind Al are fond of him for other reasons.
* FreudianSlip: Wade keeps insisting that he's not a hero, and just wants his face back and revenge, but at one point he seemingly lets slip that he wants to stop Ajax so said Brit won't hurt any more innocent people.
* FunPersonified: Regardless of where he is morally, Deadpool's bouncy personality makes him a persistent source of levity, even if he's doing some pretty gruesome wet work.
* GangstaStyle: Holds his pistol sideways when shooting a grenade during the freeway shootout.
* GayBravado: Exploited by the pansexual Wade to threaten the pizza boy stalker in the opening.
-->'''Wade:''' Or you'll find out that I have some hard spots, too. ''[{{beat}}]'' That came out wrong. ''[beat]'' Or did it? ''[kisses stalker on cheek]''
* GoingCommando: Once his attempt to make peace using his underwear as a white flag fails.
* HealingFactor: Even for mutants, his is powerful. Having a large knife stabbed into his brain is a minor inconvenience. [[spoiler:When he is forced to cut off his hand to escape from Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, it regrows in less than a day.]]
* HeroicComedicSociopath:
** He is a ([[NominalHero nominal]]) hero who maims and murders his enemies in often hilarious and ridiculous ways.
** After he is done scaring off a teenage stalker, Wade mentions to Weasel he was a lot worse at that age.
* HiddenDepths: {{Zig zagged}}. His friends would tell you that there's more to him than his looks, but you wouldn't know it from talking with Wade himself. [[spoiler:He makes peace with it at the end though (although it probably helps that Vanessa tells him that he has a face she'd love to sit on).]]
* HitmanWithAHeart: Despite being an accomplished killer who has undoubtedly taken higher-paying jobs, he takes on a job to scare away a young girl's stalker. He doesn't even hurt the guy (who technically hasn't hurt anyone yet), just roughs him up a bit. The girl says he's her hero, but he insists he's not. Despite this, he tells Weasel to give her back most of the money she paid for said roughing-up.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Advises Dopinder to kidnap his love interest Geeta while taking a cab to save Vanessa... who was kidnapped. Granted, Ajax isn't his love rival, nor is Vanessa interested in Ajax, but it still looks bad.
* IWasQuiteALooker: Essentially his main ordeal, as he did not react to his overall BodyHorror well.
* ImNotAHeroIm: "[[{{Subverted}} just a bad guy]] who gets paid to [[NominalHero fuck up worse guys]]."
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Manages a [[OneHitPolykill three-for-one]] BoomHeadshot combo in midair.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Fine! I've only got twelve bullets, so some of you are going to have to share.
* InsecureLoveInterest: A big part of why Wade avoids Vanessa for a couple of years is because he feels he's become too ugly for her to love.
* InsultBackfire: He wholeheartedly agrees with or thanks Weasel after every insult Weasel makes about Wade's scarred appearance.
-->'''Weasel:''' Motherfucker, you are hard to look at.\\
'''Wade:''' Like a testicle with teeth.\\
'''Weasel:''' You look like [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]] face-fucked a topographical map of Utah.\\
'''Wade:''' Exactly!\\
'''Weasel:''' You look like an avocado had sex with an older avocado.\\
'''Wade:''' [{{beat}}] Thank you.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Even before becoming Deadpool, Wade was not the nicest (or sanest) guy around, cheerfully willing to beat up and threaten people for money. However, he does have a soft spot for teenage girls, particularly ones with stalker problems, and he's more than happy to solve those problems for them. Even as Deadpool, despite being an all-out psychopath, he only ever dishes out punishment to people who actually deserve it and treats those who he considers friends very nicely (though his definition of "nicely" differs greatly from a normal person's).
* KnifeNut / KatanasAreJustBetter: His trademark dual katana blades. Early in the film, before becoming Deadpool, he carries around a large knife to intimidate victims.
%%* LargeHam:
* ALighterShadeOfBlack: How Wade views himself.
-->'''Deadpool:''' I'm a bad guy who is paid to fuck up worse guys.
* LineOfSightName: At Sister Margaret's Home for Wayward Girls, a bar for mercenaries and hired guns, there's a "dead pool" in which the patrons place money based on who among them they think will die next. Wade takes his codename after Weasel reminds him that he bet on Wade, and Wade's new HealingFactor is going to make it pretty much impossible for Weasel to win.
* LockAndLoadMontage: Gathers dozens of guns and over 3000 rounds of ammunition in preparation for the final battle, but [[spoiler:forgets the duffel bag holding them all (sans Blind Al's personal firearm) in the taxi he takes to get to the final battle]].
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Having insanely powerful regeneration, he treats gunshots and cuts like mild annoyances instead of life-threatening wounds. It's completely {{justified|trope}} in his case because ''nothing'' is truly a "major injury", essentially making his reactions instead a MinorInjuryOverreaction.
** After getting shot in the ass:
--->'''Deadpool:''' Argh! Right up Main Street!
** While looking through a hole in his arm:
--->'''Deadpool:''' Motherfucker!
* MediumAwareness: After becoming Deadpool, Wade is aware he's in a film.
-->'''Deadpool:''' I know, right? Whose balls did I have to fondle to get my own movie? [[ComicBook/{{Wolverine}} I'm not going to name names]], but it rhymes with "Polverine."[[note]]This seems like a PerfectlyCromulentWord, but is in fact [[https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/polverine real.]][[/note]]
* MetaGuy: He lampshades every tropes and clichés found in superhero movies, sometimes even by BreakingTheFourthWall. He even lampshades [[UpToEleven the breaking of the fourth wall itself.]]
* MilitarySuperhero: He was an ex-Special Forces mercenary with 41 confirmed kills, and one of the superhero names he considers is "Captain Deadpool".
* MotorMouth: He. Never. Shuts. Up. ''Ever.''
** Angel Dust isn't on screen for 30 seconds before she gets so tired of hearing him ramble on that she covers his mouth and then gags him. Does this keep him from talking? Not a chance -- he continues to mumble unintelligibly through the cloth stuffed in his pie hole.
** Colossus asks him if he has an "off switch," which leads to Deadpool making a brothel joke.
* TheMusketeer: Equipped with weapons for both DualWielding and GunsAkimbo, but never uses his SwordAndGun simultaneously.
* MrFanservice: Pre-disfigurement, he was a quite a looker. He doesn't take well to losing this status post-disfigurement.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He befriends a fellow prisoner in Ajax's mutation program, but after [[spoiler:causing an explosion to free himself Wade catches sight of his friend dying, muttering his name. Wade takes his remorse silently]].
* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Says early on that he only goes after people that he feels have done something to deserve it. He even offers to spare the soldiers working for Ajax, since they're only in his way because of who signs their paychecks, and when that fails he still avoids killing one of them when it's revealed that he's his old friend Bob.
* TheNicknamer: He pins nicknames on a lot of both major and minor characters:
** Negasonic Teenage Warhead: [[Music/SineadOConnor Sinéad]], Ripley from ''Film/{{Alien 3}}''.
** Angel Dust: Less Angry Creator/RosieODonnell; [[UsefulNotes/BaseBall José Canseco]] in some of the trailers.
** Ajax: [[Music/TheSpiceGirls Posh Spice]], but he drops it [[spoiler:upon learning that his real name is Francis.]]
** Weapon X recruiter: [[Film/TheMatrix Agent Smith]], Jared.
* NominalHero: In his own words, "I'm just a bad guy who gets paid to kill worse guys."
* PopCulturedBadass: Expect ''a lot'' of movie and music references.
-->'''Wade:''' Ever seen ''Film/OneHundredAndTwentySevenHours''? [[AnArmAndALeg Spoiler alert!]]
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: He is fond of dropping a line before eliminating an opponent, like "Daddy needs to express some rage," or "This guy's got the right idea! [[BringMyBrownPants He wore the brown pants.]]"
* PsychopathicManchild: His refusal to treat anything seriously makes him come off this way. Colossus calls him a "heavily armed child."
* RealMenWearPink: A fan of [[Music/GeorgeMichael Wham!]] who even carries guns in a Hello Kitty backpack.
* RedIsHeroic: With black to add variety but he insists that he's not a hero. It's just because he doesn't want to wash away blood stains after battle.
* RippleEffectProofMemory: Given that Deadpool is a FourthWallObserver, Wade is still well aware of everything that happened in ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine'', despite that entire timeline having been wiped out in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast''.
-->'''Deadpool:''' I've got no problems with [[Creator/HughJackman Hugh]]. I mean he's a delightful guy, he really is. True legend. But [[Film/XMenOriginsWolverine the movie]], that was a career low for me.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: His hunt for Ajax is partially motivated by revenge, but also because Ajax claims he can repair the disfigurement.
* SadClown:
** Keeps up the jokes after his cancer diagnosis. When Vanessa finds him brooding by the window, near tears, in the middle of the night, he snarks that he had a nightmare about being hunted down by Creator/LiamNeeson and rambles about ''Film/{{Taken}}'' for a bit.
** This even continues into his Deadpool persona. His façade of goofy fun hides a deeply self-loathing man who can't even muster up the courage to talk to the woman he loves because of his disfigurement.
--->'''Deadpool:''' ''[after Negasonic Teenage Warhead answers the door at the X-Mansion]'' Ripley! From ''Film/{{Alien 3}}''!\\
'''Warhead:''' Fuck, you're old.\\
'''Deadpool:''' Ha! Fake laugh! Hiding real pain.
%%* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Several times.
* SirSwearsALot: Even compared to most versions, Deadpool here has a fierce potty mouth.
-->'''Deadpool:''' Finish fucking her the fuck up!\\
'''Colossus:''' Language, please!\\
'''Deadpool:''' ''Suck a cock!''
* SoProudOfYou: When he finds out Dopinder kidnapped his romantic rival, he whispers his approval while loudly condemning him in front of Colossus. Does it later when Negasonic compliments him at the end of the movie.
* StalkerWithACrush: After he escapes Weapon X, he becomes something of a stalker to Vanessa, and in stark contrast to his slightly chivalrous self from before the experiments, supports [[spoiler:Dopinder's plan to kill his romantic rival and kidnap the girl he has a crush on]].
* SwordAndGun: His costume is equipped with two {{katanas|AreJustBetter}} and two handguns.
* SuperheroPackingHeat: Albeit one who forgets either the ammo or the guns themselves.
* TeensAreMonsters: Mentions that he's done worse than the stalker boy when he was a teen.
%%* TheTrickster
* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: Wade's into some kinky stuff, but can't quite handle getting [[spoiler:pegged from behind by Vanessa during International Women's Day.]]
* TrashTalk: Constantly to enemies, including CallingYourAttacks ("Cock punch!", "Teabag!").

->'''Played By:''' Creator/RyanReynolds

->''"I'm touching myself tonight."''

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, ex-Special Forces operative Wade Wilson agrees to a radical procedure to cure his disease with a superhuman HealingFactor. Unfortunately, though
--> See the procedure saves his life, it also causes the cancer to spread through his entire body and brain, leaving him horribly scarred and completely insane.

* AttentionDeficitOohShiny:
[[spoiler:A cartoon version of him gets an increasingly massive erection as it talks about how hot the actors (male and female) in the
''X-Men'' film are.]]
* CaptainSuperhero: [[DiscussedTrope Nope]].
* DarkAndTroubledPast:
* EveryoneHasStandards:
-->'''Wade:''' Look at me.\\
'''Weasel:''' I...\\
'''Wade:''' No, look at it.\\
'''Weasel:''' No, I don't want to.\\
'''Wade:''' Exactly!
* HeroicComedicSociopath:
--->'''Deadpool:''' Motherfucker!
* SadClown:
* {{Troll}}: Deadpool is the master of getting on others' nerves. Even when he's in agony, that won't stop him from bugging the crap out of his tormentors. The most frequent example is calling Ajax "Francis", but he also provokes a bar fight for yuks.
* TwoFirstNames: Wade and Wilson.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Gender-flipped. Wade absolutely loses it after Ajax kidnaps the love of his life, Vanessa.
-->'''Wade:''' ''[destroying various inanimate objects]'' Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! FUCK! I'm gonna rip his MOTHERFUCKING-- ... ''[after reading a text from Ajax regarding Vanessa]'' ... [[TranquilFury I need guns]].\\

* BadGuyBar: By the name of Sister Margaret's Home For Wayward Girls, which he owns and acts as the bartender. He's a very friendly guy who knows how to keep the client's secrets, and as such the entire bar has his back. And considering it's a bar frequented by thugs, mercs, and other such characters, that's a very good thing to have. [[spoiler:At one point, all of the patrons in the bar [[EvenEvilHasStandards immediately draw their guns on Ajax and Angel Dust when they threaten Weasel]].]]
-->'''Weasel:''' ''[while being [[NeckLift choked]] by Angel Dust]'' Sweetheart, you might wanna look around. This isn't really the place to do something like that.

You look like the insides of other people's assholes," "Motherfucker, you are hard to look at," "You look like [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger]] face-fucked a topographical map of Utah," and "You look like an avocado had sex with an older avocado."

* CowardlySidekick: He provides Deadpool with everything he needs ''except'' help in a fight, as he's a bit of a coward.

* DeadpanSnarker: It's hard to be a friend of Pool's without being one.

And afterwards? The first thing he does is to call Wade to warn him. Also, upon learning that Wade has cancer, he offers Wade herbal remedies instead of alcohol.
* LovableCoward: It's not that he wouldn't go with Wade to the final battle. It's just that he doesn't want to.
* MeaningfulName: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]], while Weasel is a coward, he doesn't release any information on his clientèle, even when Ajax and Angel Dust try to shake him down for it.

->'''Played By:''' Stefan Kapičić (voice), Andre Tricoteux (motion-capture), Greg [=LeSalle=] (facial motion-capture)

A mutant who can transform his body into living steel, granting superhuman strength and a resistance to damage and temperature.

For the original timeline's Colossus from the main ''Film/XMen'' films, see Characters/XMenFilmSeriesXMen.
----
* TwentyFourHourArmor: Though he should be able to turn his powers off, he never does so in the film, even when doing something as mundane as eating breakfast (which, of course, just makes that funnier).
* AdaptationalWimp: In the comics, Colossus is damn near unstoppable when he wants to be. In this movie, Angel Dust, whom Wade was able to knock backwards with a headbutt at one point, is able to take him on in a fight that ''isn't'' hilariously one-sided, including using leverage against him in a situation that shouldn't have been possible with his strength. Late in their fight, she starts choking Colossus out with a steel cable. In the comics, Colossus doesn't need to breathe in his armored form at all, at least for a few minutes at a time. He seems none the worse for wear at the end of the fight, however, so his difficulty fighting her may be less related to a lack of might and more related to misguided chivalry.
* {{Adorkable}}: Let's start with the fact that his first couple scenes have him eating cereal out of a bowl at least three sizes too small for him and lecturing his ward on the importance of eating breakfast in the morning. Near the end of the film, he catches a ride with Deadpool in Dopinder's cab -- he's squished in the backseat next to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and he's casually sipping a drink from a cup that's comically small in his giant hands.
* BadassBaritone: He speaks in a low, Russsian-accented baritone that just oozes badassery.
* BallsOfSteel: Quite literally. Deadpool tries to do a GroinAttack on him and fails horribly. [[spoiler:Angel Dust]] is ''much'' more successful in her attempt.
-->'''Deadpool:''' [[LampshadeHanging Your poor wife]]!
* BigBrotherMentor: He's trying to mentor Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Also tries to be one to Deadpool, whom he considers a rowdy, misguided and heavily armed child.
* BoisterousBruiser: He occasionally acts like this, though a less LargeHam example than most. This is best seen when he's talking to Warhead at the Mansion.
* ButtMonkey: Despite being a towering hunk of walking metal, Colossus repeatedly gets humiliated and disrespected by Deadpool, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Angel Dust.
* TheCape: He's a total boy scout when it comes to morality and manners. He is in fact the only character in the entire film who makes a point of ''not'' cursing.
* ChasteHero: Absolutely fine with 'hitting' a woman (once it's established that she can take an extreme amount of punishment), but instantly covers his eyes in shame when she has a WardrobeMalfunction in the middle of the fight.
* ChromeChampion: A behemoth of a man with steel skin.
* TheComicallySerious: He's a total boyscout when it comes to morality and manners. ''Of course'' he repeatedly gets humiliated and disrespected by Deadpool, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Angel Dust.
* DeadpanSnarker: He is not impressed by Wade's attempts to injure him.
-->'''Colossus:''' This is embarrassing.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Angel Dust takes advantage of him pointing out her exposed left boob during their fight.
* {{Foil}}: To Deadpool. Chaste-mouthed, paragon-like gentle giant boy scout X-Man contrasted to Deadpool's foul-mouthed sardonic violent psychotic freelancer.
-->'''Colossus:''' We can't allow this, Deadpool. Please... come quietly.\\
'''Deadpool:''' You big, chrome cock-gobbler!\\
'''Colossus:''' That's not nice.
* GentleGiant: He's a towering mountain of organic steel skin, but is a kind and compassionate man who prefers ''not'' to resort to violence when he can help it. [[BewareTheNiceOnes But watch your ass if does.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: It does not occur him that graciously stopping to give Angel Dust time to fix her WardrobeMalfunction leaves him wide-open for a counter-attack. He also gets decked for trying to avoid hurting Angel and simply handcuffing her.
* HuskyRusskie: He has a prominent Russian accent this time around.
* HypocriticalHumor: Combined with the fact he doesn't power down in the film, this makes his "Hero" speech funnier.
-->'''Colossus:''' People think being hero is full-time job. Wake up a hero. Brush your teeth a hero. Not true.
* IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim: He tries to convince Deadpool to be a bigger man than Ajax and spare his life, but [[spoiler:Deadpool just rolls his eyes and shoots Ajax anyway]]. He then tells Colossus that being a hero isn't worth sparing the lives of horrible people and mocks him, saying "not everyone monitors a hall like you".
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: He [[spoiler: tries to]] save the villain, is kind to everyone, delivers several "YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre" speeches, cannot stand swearing, and an exposed breast has him instantly covering his eyes.
* KirkSummation: With Professor X himself not around in this film, Colossus takes up the job by telling Deadpool that being a hero doesn't mean being a joyless stick in the mud, and all it takes is recognizing a few opportunities throughout your life to do the right thing.
* LargeAndInCharge: His actor's already huge, and they had him ''on stilts''. 'Nuff said.
* MightyGlacier: He's strong enough to overpower Angel Dust when he puts down real effort. Unfortunately, he's as slow as he is strong and she made him pay for it early in their fight.
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: Unstoppable in battle and extremely Russian.
* NiceGuy: He is easily the most polite character in ''Deadpool'', trying to encourage the title character to become a hero and acting as a ParentalSubstitute to Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
* NoSell: Deadpool breaks several of his body parts trying to injure him. Colossus doesn't budge.
* TheParagon: He tries ''so hard'' to be one for Wade.
* ParentalSubstitute: While he does act as a BigBrotherMentor to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Colossus has moments where he behaves more like a father figure to her.
* ThePollyanna: He is optimistic and positive about everything. In his opinion, the fact that the X-Mansion gets destroyed every few years "[[MiseryBuildsCharacter builds character]]."
* SaveTheVillain: Carries both Negasonic Teenage Warhead and [[spoiler:Angel Dust]] away from the [[spoiler:collapsing junkyard ship in the finale]]. He encourages Deadpool to do the same to [[spoiler:Ajax]], but he declines.
* StraightMan: His goody-goody personality makes him the perfect foil to Deadpool's antics.
* StressVomit: [[spoiler:Once Deadpool shoots Ajax.]] Apparently with the face actor as well, as fake-vomiting is [[http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/deadpools-colossus-facial-actor-reveals-dangers-puking not easy]].
* SuperStrength: Bats bad guys around like ragdolls, and lobs giant work vehicle tires like skipping stones.
* SuperToughness: Enough that the commensurate SuperStrength and Super Toughness of Angel Dust means that both just [[PaddedSumoGameplay futilly clobber each other about]] for most of their fight.
* SuddenlyVoiced: He ranges from TheQuietOne to almost TheVoiceless in previous ''X-Men'' movies. Here, he talks quite a lot.
* WinsByDoingAbsolutelyNothing: Deadpool tries fighting him. [[ChromeChampion Naturally]], Colossus just needs to stay still and do absolutely nothing for the majority of the fight as Deadpool tries attacking him and completely shatters his bones every time he connects a hit.
* WrongGenreSavvy: He seems to think he's in a traditional PG-13 Superhero Movie. He is so very, ''very'' wrong.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: To Deadpool, whom he wants to make an X-Man.
* YouNoTakeCandle: Speaks this way to round out the HuskyRusskie stereotype. His first lines see him tell Negasonic Teenage Warhead "We have mission." In the Russian dub of the movie, since everyone speaks Russian and accents would be redundant, he resorts to Ye Olde Butcherede Russian instead. That comes out no less hilarious.

* DeadpanSnarker: He is not impressed by Wade's attempts to injure him.
-->'''Colossus:''' This is embarrassing.
* SuddenlyVoiced: He ranges from TheQuietOne to almost TheVoiceless in previous
''X-Men'' movies.

* AdaptationalIntelligence: In the comics he's just a sadistic security chief. Here he's also a scientist.
* AdaptationalNationality: He is English instead of American like his comic book counterpart.
* AlliterativeName: His real name, '''Fr'''ancis '''Fr'''eeman.
* AnAxeToGrind: Pulls out two of them for the final fight, since he knows Deadpool can regenerate from explosions and small wounds such as bullet wounds, so Francis figures chopping the limbs off clean is a more efficient way to disable him.
* AssholeVictim: The tears that were shed when this bastard bit it were hopefully either non-existent or of [[TearsOfJoy joy]].
* AtrociousAlias: Of sorts. Ajax was one of ancient Greece's greatest warriors, mostly known for his feats in [[Literature/TheIliad the Trojan War]]... but nowadays it's mostly known as a brand of cleaning products, something Wade will not let him forget (when he's not just calling him Francis).

* AxCrazy: This guy commits horrifying experiments on people ForTheEvulz. He's a rare example of a ''cold'' AxCrazy, in that while he's extremely violent and sadistic, he tends to remain entirely calm and composed during it.
* BadassBiker: Spends most of the freeway shootout driving a motorcycle.
* BaldOfEvil: Ajax has shaved his head bald.
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: He went through the torture gauntlet as a subject before he became the operator. From what he tells Wade, it's possible that the process broke him.

* BoomHeadshot: Wade puts a bullet in his head at the end of the film.
* BossInMookClothing: During the highway fight, Ajax is disguised as one of the convoy's bikers. Wade writes him off him as a mook, though he is more competent at dodging Wade's attacks than the other mooks.

* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: His lack of pain-sensing nerves and enhanced reflexes allow him to be strong enough to NeckLift and take punishment he shouldn't be able to shrug off just because he feels no pain.

* CompositeCharacter: Has some things in common with Dr. Killebrew by being the surgeon responsible for Wade's condition.
* DefiantToTheEnd: When he's finally under Deadpool's mercy, [[spoiler:he [[DidYouActuallyBelieve taunts him]] with the fact that his scars are incurable, despite knowing that the prospect of a cure is the ''only'' reason Deadpool's even ''considering'' keeping him alive]].
* DoNotCallMePaul: Wade learns that the quickest way to get under Ajax's skin is to call him Francis. He spends the entire film trying to get Deadpool to refer to him as Ajax.
* DullSurprise: Purposefully. Ajax is (as he himself tells Wade) emotionally burnt out, so his delivery of practically every line is dead and flat.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Ajax walks in Wade's room, tells him he ''could'' speak in euphemisms ("This may hurt", "take a deep breath", etc.), but since he's become entirely numb (both [[TheSociopath emotionally]] and [[FeelNoPain physically]]) he doesn't really give a shit anymore, so he just says what he'll actually do: torture Wade mercilessly until his mutation manifests itself. He proceeds to do so.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: PlayedForLaughs in the end credits when Deadpool has a "He's the hottest!" thought balloon while his actor's name was shown.
* EvilBrit: He has an English accent, and he's the first example of a British BigBad in the movie series. He's even credited as "British Villain".
* EvilCounterpart: To Deadpool. Both of them have undergone human mutant experiments that have granted amazing abilities, such as healing quickly and not feeling pain. They each go by aliases, with their real names being alliterative. However, while Wade acts like a cheerfully murderous lunatic, he's actually pretty softhearted (just violent); Ajax may seem cool and reasonable, but he's an AxCrazy sociopath with no redeeming qualities.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumour: He sometimes tries making jokes at Pool's expense, but they're all nasty and unfunny, particularly because his emotionally stunted delivery ruins the timing.
* EvilIsPetty: He makes a point of being ''especially'' cruel to Wade for no adequate reason other than the fact Pool keeps making jokes ([[BerserkButton and calling him Francis]]). After finding a method of torture that finally triggers Wade's dormant mutant genes, he decides to torture Wade some more, just because he can.

* {{Faux Affably Evil}}: Ajax can be chatty and snarky from time to time, but it's nothing more than a facade. He can even keep up his act while torturing people.
* FeelNoPain: One of his abilities is feeling absolutely no pain. It serves as a reflection to Pool, whose injuries he can always bounce back from but still hurt, while Ajax's injuries are grievous but unfelt.
* {{Genius Bruiser}}: Ajax is simultaneously a brilliant scientist, the head of the program that develops superhumans and a ruthless fighter who goes toe-to-toe with Deadpool.
* HateSink: A rare BigBad example, but this guy has to be one of the most disgusting human beings ever put to film, and it is hard not to cheer when ''anything'' bad happens to him.
* HealingFactor: He has one, but it is nowhere as strong as Deadpool's. A fact he laments after escaping a thorough beating at the hands of the latter.
* HotGuysAreBastards: He's played by Ed Skrein, looks like he could've stepped off a Paris runway, and is thoroughly loathsome. The credits lampshade it:
-->'''Cartoon!Deadpool:''' He's the hottest!
* ILied: First as to making Wade a "superhero" and again when he claims that [[spoiler:he can fix his mutated face.]]
* ImplacableMan: Since he feels nothing, it's very hard to put him down.
* IronicName: Mr. Freeman holds many prisoners as lab experiments. After giving them superpowers, he sells them into slavery.
* {{Jerkass}}: Not only is he evil, he's also a dick.
* JerkWithTheHeartOfAJerk: He says he could cure Wade's disfigurement, but he then says where would the fun be in that. Another proof of what an utter asshole he is.
* KnightOfCerebus: While the film is DenserAndWackier, Ajax is played dangerously straight. Whenever he starts taking direct action things begin to get noticeably darker.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: When Angel throat lifts Weasel and every man in the BadGuyBar draws their guns, Ajax logically tells her to back down.
* LackOfEmpathy: The procedure that gave him the power of [[FeelNoPain immunity to pain]] and SuperReflexes also left him incapable of feeling empathy for other people.

* MadScientist: He performs illegal experiments on humans to grant them superhuman abilities. They don't always go well.
* MadeOfIron: He feels no pain which keeps him fighting, but pain or not, he should be completely hobbled way earlier than he is. He's just that tough. It takes a lot of beating to knock him down. [[spoiler:Killing him takes a [[BoomHeadshot headshot]].]]
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: As a result of feeling no pain, he reacts very casually to things like being impaled by a katana.

* NotSoStoic: Justified. Getting hit by a cargo container isn't something you don't react to, even if you can't feel pain.
* PetTheDog: His friendliness towards Angel Dust may be a subversion, as he claims he [[TheSociopath can't feel anything for anyone]], and is only friendly towards her because of her temper and superior strength.
* {{Sadist}}: He seems less interested in the scientific discoveries that his experiments had brought and more interested in the pain and suffering they bring:
-->'''Ajax:''' "I'm not putting you back in this thing because I have to. It's because I want to."
* TheSociopath: He observes that he can't feel, both in the sense of not feeling any pain and in the sense of feeling no emotional response. Deadpool even calls him a psychopath.
* TheStoic: Because he [[TheSociopath can't feel any emotions]].
* TortureTechnician: Oh, he's meticulous when it comes to causing pain.
* VillainousFriendship: Ajax seems to be legitimately friendly with Angel Dust and the feeling seems mutual - however, see PetTheDog above.

A mysterious man who recruits Wade Wilson into Ajax's superhuman experimentation program.
----
* AssholeVictim: As the man who manipulated Wade into ruining his own life, when Deadpool finally gets his hands on him, it is immensely satisfying.
* CelebrityResemblance: Apparently for Creator/HugoWeaving.
* ColdBloodedTorture: What Deadpool does to him during his RoaringRampageOfRevenge.
* DealWithTheDevil: Offers to cure Wade of his cancer and make him a superhero in exchange for Wade working for his organization.
* DirtyCoward: ''Immediately'' runs when Deadpool confronts him, and folds like wet paper and (again) also immediately tries to reveal the location of his boss to save his own skin. Wade gives him some ColdBloodedTorture anyway just for being an asshole.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Speaks politely to Wade while manipulating him into making a decision that will ruin his life.
* GoryDiscretionShot: Deadpool turns the camera away from the scene of him being tortured to death, saying that the audience doesn't want to see it.
* InSeriesNickname: Wade refers to him as "[[Franchise/TheMatrix Agent Smith]]". He also calls him "Jared", after the former Subway spokesman who was arrested for child pornography.
* KickTheDog: The Recruiter's entire job is to track down terminally ill or otherwise desperate former soldiers and trick them into becoming human guinea pigs.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: When confronted by an angry Deadpool, the Recruiter is more than willing to spill everything he knows about Francis and the operation. Unfortunately for the Recruiter, Deadpool decides to torture him for funsies.
* TheMenInBlack: Obviously goes to the same tailor, which causes Deadpool to name him "[[Franchise/TheMatrix Agent Smith]]" for the duration of the movie.
* ObviouslyEvil: His black suit, creepy grin and vague promises do not inspire trust. Wade begins making quips about him being a sex offender (and infomercial barker) immediately after meeting him.
* PaedoHunt: Wade constantly jokes that his ObviouslyEvil mannerisms make him come across as a pedophile (his behavior being not unlike a CreepyUncle).
